The beautiful Keauhou Bay is home to many majestic rays that come out at night to feed on the plentiful plankton that bloom in the area due to the bright lights from the nearby Sheraton Hotel. This also makes it an exceptional place to dive at night, as the area is brightly lit even at night. Watch the mantas come out to feed, creating a wonderful, magical experience with these graceful creatures! Choose from a quick one-tank dive, a longer 2-tank dive, or an advanced 2-tank blackwater experience!

Enjoy a twilight reef dive followed by the epic manta ray dive. Observe the reef in transition as diurnal critters go to rest and nocturnal species come out to play, then watch the sunset for your surface interval. When we get back in the water, it’s dark enough that our dive lights attract plankton and feeding mantas.

FAQ
Expand all
What if we don't see any manta rays on our dive?
  • It's rare that no mantas show up on a dive, but as they are wild animals there are no guarantees of their presence. If you don't see any rays on your dive, you may receive a 50% discount off of any future manta ray tours.
Are we allowed to freedive with the mantas?
  • No. SCUBA divers will stay at the bottom of the ocean floor for the duration of the dive so as not to interfere with the manta rays' natural feeding behavior patterns. As they are a protected species, you are not allowed to touch or chase the mantas.
Are manta rays dangerous?
  • No, manta rays don't have barbs, stingers, or teeth to hurt you with, nor are they venomous. They are, however, quite large and fast and it is recommended to give them as much space as possible. Keeping a respectful distance from these wild animals is the best way to avoid any problems!
