Big Island Photo Tour - Waterfalls and Botanical Garden Adventure


Capture black lava fields, white snow-capped mountains and lush green rainforests all in one day of photography on the Big Island! This full-day sightseeing and photo tour takes you to all the best viewpoints in Hilo to photograph amazing scenes.

Begin your full-day photography tour by driving down Saddle Road to see the two largest mountains in Hawaii: Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. These extinct volcanoes are surrounded by lava rock and, in the winter, often see snow covering their peaks. Then, you'll drive to Hilo town to see beautiful waterfalls and visit Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, where you'll get the chance to take up-close shots of exotic tropical plants. After a lunch break, your last stop of the day is at Waipio Valley Lookout, where you'll learn about the valley as you take landscape shots of the sweeping panorama in front of you.

      About the guide
      Ehitu is a seventh generation Native Hawaiian born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, growing up by the ocean and learning how to live by what mother nature provided. He has always been interested in the night sky and astronomy from hearing how his ancestors voyaged throughout the Pacific Ocean just by using the stars.

      In 2009, he started traveling around the world and doing surf photography. His work can be found in magazines such as Surfer, Outside Magazine, Hawaiian Airlines. Since the most recent volcanic eruption in May 2018, his photographs and video footage has also been published by National Geographic. Join a tour with Ehitu, he loves to share his cultures and experiences living on this beautiful island.

    Saddle Road is the highway that lies between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. It connects the towns of Kona and Hilo. Along saddle road, you'll get the opportunity to photograph black lava fields and the snow-capped peaks of these enormous mountains.
  • Rainbow Falls
    The famous Rainbow Falls in Hilo is named for the rainbows commonly seen at its base.
  • Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden
    This beautiful and highly acclaimed garden allows you to take up-close shots of rare and exotic flora: over 1,800 species of tropical plants including orchids, banana groves & more in a tranquil setting.
  • Akaka Falls
  • Laupahoehoe Point
    This peninsula is covered with black lava rocks on the shoreline that contrast beautifully with the deep blue ocean.
  • Waipio Valley Lookout
    We end this photo journey with the dramatic backdrop of lush cliffs at Waipio Valley Lookout. Learn about this secluded, historical valley while taking in a beautiful panorama.
