About the Location
Taking a tour to explore the Road to Hana, also known as the Hana Highway, is one of the most popular things to do in Maui. The highway itself is 64.4 miles (103.6 km) long and connects Kahului in Central Maui to the town of Hana in East Maui. This narrow, winding road passes over approximately 620 curves and 59 bridges between Maui's northern coast and lush, tropical rainforests.

Fun Facts
• Did you know the bridges on the Road to Hana (made of steel and concrete) date back to 1910? All of them, except one that was damaged by erosion, are still in use.
• President Bill Clinton designated the Hana Highway as the “Hana Millennium Legacy Trail” in 2000.
• Banana Bread is the iconic snack to grab on the Road to Hana: you'll find many banana bread stands on the way! (Don’t forget to bring some cash with you as they only accept cash.)

What to Expect
The long and winding road leads you into and through the incredible natural landscape of Maui Island! Flourishing rainforests, jungles of bamboo, panoramic Pacific Ocean views, surging waterfalls from the cliffs, plunging pools... You'll get lots of opportunities to check out these popular Maui sightseeing spots and enjoy the beautiful views that make Road to Hana one of the top things to do in Maui.

The Road to Hana is also home to the rich past of Maui, such as the birthplace of Queen Kaahumanu on Ka’uiki Hill in Hana (A cave called Puu Kauiki) and the grave of famous American aviator Charles Lindbergh in Kipahulu. Knowledgeable tour guides can tell you all kinds of history, legends, and Hawaiian myths during your Hana Maui adventures—another benefit of taking guided tours!

What to Bring on the Road to Hana
Water and Snacks − Some tours have complimentary water and snacks and there are also places to buy snacks along the way, but it's better to bring your own in case you get hungry or thirsty on the tour.
Cash − Bring some cash for the little stores along the way such as banana bread and smoothie stands, which only take cash as payment.
Comfortable Clothing − You'll get lots of opportunities to get off the van and explore, so make sure you're dressed in clothes and shoes you'll be comfortable walking in. Bring a light sweater or jacket in case of rain and cold weather, both of which are common along the Hana Highway.
Swimsuit and Towel − Some tours will stop at a state park, waterfall, or beach to let you take a dip along the way. Also consider bringing reef shoes.
Sunscreen and Bug Spray – You will be in a tropical rainforest, so bringing bug repellent is a good idea for when you get out of the vehicle. Note that if you are taking a helicopter tour, aerosols are not allowed on board.
Umbrella or poncho − The secret to Hana's lush, green environment is rain, and lots of it! It rains almost everyday along the Road to Hana. However, usually the rain comes in the form of mist or passing showers that don't last long.
Motion sickness preventative – Due to the winding roads, it's important to take care if you are prone to carsickness. It's better to take your medicine at least one hour before the tour, and bring extra doses along with you.
Camera – Bring a camera to capture the amazing scenic views of rainforests and coastlines along the Road to Hana.

Pro Tip
Since Road to Hana is a very popular Maui attraction, it's better to book the tour 4-5 days in advance. If you have very specific schedule requirements, please book sooner. Last-minute bookings are possible, but availability is often limited.
