This eco-adventure begins with an off-road expedition from the heart of Haleiwa up into the Koolau Mountains in the safety of an authentic Swiss Military Pinzgauer and then continues with a guided hike through the verdant beauty of Oahu's North Shore. These unique tours are led using the "Native Perspective", preserving traditional Hawaiian 'ike (knowledge) passed down from one generation to the next through an oral tradition including mo'olelo (stories), kāʻao (legends), oli (chant), and even hula (dance)!

Start off the day with a 7-mile off-road adventure into the Koolau Mountains before continuing on a 2-mile trek through unspoiled natural beauty rarely witnessed by Oahu visitors. Pick wild bananas and guava as you hike through bamboo thickets and take a refreshing dip in a freshwater mountain pool. Scale windswept ridges, forge freshwater streams, and trek through verdant tropical valleys!
Rated: Hike is rated Moderate with a 2.0mi (3.2km) round-trip hike. The trail conditions include slippery stream crossings, loose gravel, slick mud, and cliff sections. The trail has an elevation gain of 200 feet and therefore all hikers must be capable of traversing up and downhill sections. It is not suitable for elderly people or those with hip and/or knee ailments. You will get wet, be prepared for wet clothes/shoes and be mindful of personal electronics.

Is this activity suitable for children?
  • You must be at least 8 years old for the Ikena Haleiwa hike and 10 years old for the Huakai Iki and Huakai Nui hikes to participate in this activity. Please consider fitness levels for children since these tours are can be somewhat physically demanding.
Should I bring bug spray on this tour?
  • No, bug repellent will be provided by the guides, you do not need to bring your own.
Can I bring my own snacks and drinks?
  • A light gourmet lunch is provided at the end of the hike. If you would like to bring additional snacks, you are more than welcome to.
Is giving a tip (gratuity) required?
