The places you will visit in this tour
Onizuka Center for International Astronomy - Visitor Information Station
Located on the way to the top of Mauna Kea at 9,200 feet (2,800 meters) above sea level. Onizuka Center is named after Ellison Onizuka, an astronaut from the Big Island of Hawaii. He worked on the space shuttle ”Challenger”, which suffered a tragic accident in 1986.

Mauna Kea Summit
The 13,000 feet (4,200m) high summit of Mauna Kea is one of the most sacred places in Big Island Hawaii. It's also the tallest volcano in the world and provides the perfect spot for watching the sunrise in Hawaii. In Hawaiian myth, Mauna Kea is home of Poli’ahu, which is the goddess of snow. Mauna Kea Observatories are located here on the summit; the word largest observatory with 13 telescopes operated by 11 different countries. Since there is less light and dust pollution way up at the top of the world, the air clarity and other favorable conditions make Mauna Kea Summit the best location for stargazing in the world.
