Overview
Schedule
Meet with your guide at Wailua Marina
Begin your Wailua River adventure in a tandem, ruddered kayak built for smoother tracking and easier steering. Paddle calm stretches of Hawaii’s largest tropical river, passing jungle scenery and mountain views as your guide leads the way toward the rainforest trailhead and waterfall hike ahead.
Step from the river into Kauai’s rainforest for a guided nature walk on a fun muddy trail. Pass ancient Hawaiian home sites and learn about the area’s history as you make your way inland toward the waterfall tucked deep in the Wailua River valley, surrounded by tropical greenery and quiet scenery.
Arrive at 100-foot Uluwehi Falls, also known as Secret Falls, where you can cool off with a waterfall swim and relax in the rainforest. Enjoy a picnic lunch beside the falls with a turkey sandwich, carrots, brownie, and drinks before hiking back through the jungle to your kayak for the return trip.
After lunch and your swim at Uluwehi Falls, follow your guide back through Kauai’s rainforest toward the Wailua River. Along the way, learn more about native plants, local history, and the valley’s cultural stories while navigating trails, stream crossings, and jungle scenery on the return hike.
Return to your kayak and paddle downstream along the Wailua River, surrounded by jungle views, calm water, and Kauai’s valley scenery. As you make your way back, enjoy a final stretch on Hawaii’s largest tropical river and take in the history-rich landscape with your guide leading the way to shore.

Footwear with tread for muddy conditions. A sports-type sandal with heel straps or aqua socks with tread works great.
And don’t forget a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and a waterproof camera.
