The Wailua River is a calm water jungle stream in the heart of Kauai and is Hawaii's only navigable river. After paddling down the river, tie your kayak to a tree and take a one-mile hike up valley to a dramatic 130-foot waterfall with a pool for a great picnic lunch and refreshing swim. Your guide will be sharing the history of ancient Kauai. You'll also learn about the unique plants that inhabit the Wailua River Valley and how they are used for food and medicine.

    • The tour includes a 3 mile round-trip hike, and kayak paddling. You must be able to walk 1.5 miles each way over muddy trails with irregular terrain & kayak for 60-90 minutes in a tandem kayak with a partner.
    • All participants are in suitable physical condition for this activity.
    • Guests who are pregnant are not recommended to participate in this activity. You may need to talk to your doctor before your booking.
    • Guests with heart and cardiovascular issues are not permitted to participate in this activity.
    • This activity is not wheelchair accessible.
    • Children 5 years old and above can participate in this activity.

Do I need to be able to swim to participate?
  • No, being able to swim is not required but it is recommended for your own safety and comfort. Swimming is done at your own risk, so please be careful and take the proper precautions if you are not a strong swimmer.
Are you required to wear a life jacket?
  • Yes, life jackets will be required to be worn at all times.
How many people are there in a tour group?
  • There is a minimum group size of 4 people and a maximum of 18 people, based on double kayaks.
What kind of kayaks and equipment will be used?
  • The kayaks used are tandem, open-cockpit (sit-on-top type), self-bailing kayaks with foot pedal controlled rudders to facilitate safety and ease of operation. Fiberglass paddles are lightweight with a tether and you will receive a life vest, and dry bag to keep your personal items dry.
What should I wear to this activity?
  • Wear swimwear under comfortable clothing suitable for hiking. Bring shorts, t-shirt, a windbreaker or light raincoat.
    Footwear with tread for muddy conditions. A sports-type sandal with heel straps or aqua socks with tread works great.
    And don’t forget a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and a waterproof camera.
