Check-in at Honoli'i Orchards

Honoli'i Orchards was founded to establish Hawaii as a leader in cacao & chocolate production. One of the founders, Colin, pursued a master’s degree in cacao studies at the University of Hawaii, dedicating himself to cultivating & crafting some of the world’s finest chocolate for the world to taste.

Begin your tour in a beautiful new tasting room with picture perfect views of Honolii River Valley and the ocean. Learn about the farm’s story and the rich agricultural history of the Hamakua Coast, including Hawaii’s sugarcane industry from the Hawaiian Kingdom era to the 20th century.

Led by Colin, an expert with a degree in cacao studies and hands-on farming experience, you will explore the orchard and fermentation facilities. Learn about cacao cultivation, harvesting, and the fermentation process. Feel free to ask Colin any questions since he loves sharing his knowledge!

One of the highlights of this Big Island chocolate tour is the chance to sample freshly harvested cacao fruit. You will get to taste different varieties growing on the farm. The white pulp surrounding the beans has a sweet, tangy flavor, and experiencing it straight from the pod is a rare treat!

Back in the tasting room, sample cacao-based treats like dried beans, fermented cacao, cacao juice, and tea. Enjoy seasonal fruits such as lychee, sugarcane, and rambutan. Your guide will share cacao’s history, from its ancient roots to today’s bean-to-bar movement, and the art of craft chocolate.

Enjoy an exclusive tasting of up to 10 single-origin craft chocolates, each sourced from different cacao farms across Hawaii. Experience how the unique climate and soil of each region create distinct flavor profiles. Savor the rich diversity of Hawaiian chocolate and discover your personal favorite!

After the tasting, stroll through the orchard, take unique photos, and soak in the serene surroundings. Browse a selection of handcrafted chocolates and cacao products, perfect for bringing a taste of Hawaii home. Take your time to relax and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this working cacao farm.
