Why do travelers choose this tour?
The Royal Kona Luau is the most budget-friendly luau on the Big Island, and features incredible food, drinks, and performances. For those looking to stretch their Hawaiian holiday budget, there is no better choice than the Royal Kona Luau for the best deals and prices on Big Island luaus in Hawaii.
Enjoy some of the best Samoan fire knife dancing on the Big Island, with award-winning performers who have been studying this unique performance art since they were children. With long sharp knives that are light on fire, these artists bring a thrilling performance to life as they spin and throw not just one, but even two knives at the same time!
This luau is perfect for first-time visitors to Hawaii since it is easily accessible from almost all of the resort areas on the Big Island, has a dinner buffet with lots of different choices to suit all tastes, and a Polynesian luau show with live musicians and local performers who will share with you stories of the Pacific.
Guests will have a delicious buffet dinner featuring a wide variety of local Hawaiian and Pan-Pacific cuisine. Each dish has been carefully selected and crafted by expert chefs to ensure a satisfying and memorable meal for every guest at the Royal Kona Luau. From traditional poi (mashed taro) to kalua pork (Hawaiian-style pulled pork), there is something for everyone at the buffet.
Local expert tips
- This activity books up quickly, and we highly suggest booking at least 2 to 4 weeks in advance, especially during busy seasons like summer and spring break.
- At the luau, guests can enjoy a wide range of food options at the buffet which caters to almost every taste. To accommodate guests with food allergies or intolerances, the menu also features vegetarian and vegan choices, along with gluten and dairy-free options.
- The luau grounds are wheelchair and scooter accessible, and accommodations will be made for guests with mobility issues.
- A family-friendly luau, children ages 5 and below get in free, and they will each get their own seat and plate of food.

- Recommend attire: Resort casual or Aloha wear, with a light jacket or sweater. Flat shoes are a better option than high heeled shoes since the grounds are uneven with grass.

Have your cameras ready as the torches surrounding the luau are lit, and a roasted pig is lifted from an underground oven. In Hawaii, the underground oven is called an imu, and is a traditional and ancient way of cooking. The imu ceremony is unique to the islands, and this is a great opportunity.
