Kailua

I would not recommend an unaccompanied (self guided) kayak adventure in Kailua Bay. The in and out of the water is challenging so if you go to a beach or island without someone helping it's a little scary. We went out to... more one of the small islands. It took about 1.5 hours and we were paddling the entire time. Again, so tricky getting in and out we decided to leave only after about 10mns. Also shallow water if you don't stay close to shore with tons of coral that I saw people pushing on with their paddles which really harms it. It was hard not to though since they sat so close to the surface. Another great reason to have a guide. They would have steered us closer to shore to avoid it all and the stress of realizing we were damaging it.

I'm giving a 4 out of 5 because the trek to the beach was a long hike. The description did say you had to take your kayak down to the beach yourself, but we weren't expecting such a long hike to start kayaking. Once down... more at the beach their were employees there to help you into your kayak and give you a good push to get you started. The water was amazing, the bird sanctuary was nice. We didn't make it to the snorkeling by kayak, but drove there because not everyone could have made it the whole way. Once we made it to the snorkeling area it was amazing. The reefs were beautiful and full of sea life. The price for the self guided was great. You get access to all of their gear all day until 5pm.

We had a perfectly fun day! We rented bikes and snorkeling gear and flippers, rode to Lanikai beach (about a 29 minute ride), saw some turtles and fish. Then we came back, got boogy boards and enjoyed kalilua beach. Had... more some lunch did some souvenir shopping.

Our only complaint would be the tour bus driver who picked us up. He asked us where we were from and then said something about Biden being born there so we would have to walk. My husband asked him not to bring politics into our tour. He made another joke about our state and told us it was a long walk back. Then he told us there was a password (Hawaiian word) and that we couldn’t ride if we couldn't say it. Then he switched us to another bus to come back on. We were relieved.

The staff at the loading and unloading facility were great. They greeted us with a smile, were very courteous, instructed and helped load the kayaks and answered all the questions we had. This tour was a very enjoyable... more self-guided tour. We were even able to save a sea turtle that became trapped between some rock on Chinaman's Hat. AAA+ to the staff and experience.

Easy going staff! Amazing views for the price. It’s really close to everything too! 10/10 recommend!! Me and my boyfriend loved the patio. We had a front porch too which was so nice!

Lots of fun. Nice staff. Beautiful area! Was a great adventure for a family! Would highly recommend. You can Kayak, snorkel and go on a nice bike ride all in one day.
