I was instructed to wait in front of the Hilton nearby instead of the hotel where I was staying. I waited for about 20 minutes before the scheduled time, but even 20 minutes past the time, the bus did not arrive. The Hilton bellboy, seeing my situation, contacted them and was told they didn't know when it would come. He arranged for me to wait in the hotel lobby instead of in direct sunlight. In the end, I was able to board a bus that was 35 minutes late (probably unexpected), but I believe this was a result of poor communication. However, the staff at the Hilton were very kind.

The weather was nice, and while watching the sunset, we reaffirmed our love for each other. Since we didn't have a wedding ceremony in a church, my wife was moved to tears! Our spirits were high, and even though it wasn't suggested, we ended up sharing a vow kiss... The only disappointment was that the champagne we added as an option was served quite late in the course, and we couldn't finish it. I wish it had been on the table from the beginning... We ended up adding champagne unnecessarily. However, it was a very meaningful dinner and time, and we were extremely satisfied!

I was disappointed that I couldn't stop in front of the hotel and ended up passing it. I don't have a good sense of direction and can't speak English, so that was a bit frustrating. However, I think it's better than taking a bad taxi.

When I got into the shuttle car, I wasn't sure if we would be able to see the sunset, but I was told that we could still climb to the summit. We ascended to the Onitsuka Center as planned, and while we were eating our lunch, the situation changed. Due to bad weather, the gate beyond that point was closed, and we were informed that we couldn't go to the summit today. Indeed, the fog was thick, and the visibility was poor, making it look dangerous for an amateur to drive any further. It was disappointing, but from there, the plan changed to the driver's original itinerary. We aimed for a spot where we could see the sunset, and those who opted out of the stargazing were taken back to the hotel, which seemed quite challenging.

Anyway, the distance we had to travel was long, and the car was going fast, which felt a bit scary for us since we weren't used to it. However, the driver was experienced, and the roads were wide with many straight stretches, so we managed to return to the hotel safely without encountering any particularly dangerous situations. It was very unfortunate that we couldn't reach the summit. We received a rain check, a re-participation ticket valid for two years, but since it's not easy for us to come back, I thought it would have been nice if we could get about half of our money back...

Our driver Scottie from Temptation Tours was the best I've ever seen. Kept us engaged the whole ride. Knew everything about the island, people, history. Knew all of the best places to stop, where all of the good and bad bathrooms were down to the minute. Told us when the drive by pic was coming up so that we knew to get our phones/camera ready. Stopped multiple times and took the best video and pics of not only us but something cool on the stop. The wraps at lunch were superb. The captain's chairs in the van were perfect. Flying back with Troy from Maui Air was just as incredible. He played cool music and the ride was smooth. Saw a bunch of the falls and even played a little "chase and ride along" a friend he spotted in an ultralight. Highly recommend this combo. We were back at the hotel by early afternoon! Veltra Tours made it so easy and kept us up to date via email during our trip.

We went on the tour and when we saw it was pouring rain we were worried. Well, never fear with Lee as your guide. We saw so much and learned so much it was crazy. My 15 and 10 year old have been talking all the next day about what a nice and knowledgable person he is. When we hugged goodbye with someone who was a stranger 6 hours earlier, it was hard to leave. He was able to weave the incredible history of Hawaii throughout our trip by tyin flowers, lava, Hawaiian history, and his own story together to make an amazing tale we will NEVER FORGET. I highly recommend spending a day with Lee!

The day itself started with a local Kona coffee plantation visit that included how the coffee trees are grown, picked, sorted, and roasted. Next stop was a roadside fruit stand where we were introduced to some island fruits and veggies. There was a good drive to the furthest south bakery in the U.S. where our tour guide Grant filled the drive time giving us the layout of the island. From there we visited a black sands beach and looked out for sea turtles. After the beach, we headed to Volcano Park to see the volcano during day light hours and checkout the Dr Jagger museum. Then the dinner... food was good and we had a chance to talk to other members on the tour. This led to the sun setting and the final activity... the volcano at night. The glow of the cauldron is amazing in of itself, but Grant pulled out a telescope and we not only got a close up view of the spattering lava, he also was able to record it on our phones!
Grant was a phenomenal tour guide! He was personable, full of facts and information, and delivered them in a fun, witty way. From the moment of being picked up, Grant was pointing plants and notable sights to the left and the right the entire time we were in the tour van.

I expected it, but I didn't see any whales at all. As others have mentioned, the air conditioning was too strong, and it was really cold. Just wearing a T-shirt feels like I might catch a cold in Hawaii. Be sure to bring something to wear over it. There was also a children's program to keep the kids entertained, but there were too few participants, so it seemed impossible for everyone to join (laughs).

He was very knowledgeable about the culture and being a native new the area well. He answered all our questions an excellent host to us and friendly to everyone who we met on the way. He was also very personable and a family man talking about his family and sharing with us how he helps the children in his spare time on the island. He is a true asset to the company and to his heritage of the island. Taking a private tour is definitely worth your money and time spent on the island! Mahola! Lee

A Wonderful experience! The day was beautiful, the guide was knowledgeable, the bus was comfortable, and the food was very good. We are not the sort to get up in the middle of the night for a sunrise tour, so we signed up for the sunset version instead and will view the video in reverse:-) But seriously, we enjoyed the spectacular as-advertised views, along with the narrative. Our only discomfort came with the cold temperature at the summit. Despite the fact that we were prepared, it still got pretty chilly! If you're going, take the suggestions regarding warm clothing seriously!

This was an absolutely recommended tour that you should definitely join.
I participated with my husband, who was visiting Hawaii for the first time, while I was on my second trip. I was looking for places that are not the usual tourist spots in Hawaii, and I discovered this tour!
After reading the reviews, I thought, "This is it!" and signed up immediately, which turned out to be a great decision; it was truly a wonderful tour.
The female guide and instructor was friendly, cheerful, and knowledgeable, explaining Hawaii's legends in an easy-to-understand and thorough manner, allowing us to feel as if we were seeing the same scenery as the people from long ago. It was truly breathtaking!
At the beach where we went snorkeling, we were the only Japanese people there, and there were only a few tourists, so it felt very private. We enjoyed a lunch picnic on the beach with lunch bought from a local supermarket, soaking in the relaxed local vibe.
The care provided by the guide during snorkeling was excellent, making it easy to enjoy even for beginners.
Swimming while searching for fish among the rocks was a lot of fun.
We were able to see many cute fish.
The driving was very skillful, and it was a pleasant ride, comfortably moving while enjoying the ever-changing scenery from Waikiki.
I want to join this tour again.

The Haleakalā volcano had great weather, and I was able to see breathtaking views of the sea of clouds, sunset, and starry sky. I could see many stars that I can't see in Japan, filling the sky. While listening to explanations about various stars, we observed them through a telescope. The elementary school children were also moved by the starry sky and seemed to enjoy stargazing while listening to our guide (Yama-chan).

Additionally, on the way to Haleakalā volcano, our guide provided us with information about Maui and recommendations for delicious restaurants, which were very helpful for our subsequent sightseeing. We also stopped at a donut shop, a local supermarket, and a souvenir shop at a farm, so we enjoyed shopping as well. There were restrooms available at each stop, and there are also restrooms at Haleakalā volcano, so I felt comfortable participating since I often need to use the restroom.

In late March, my family of four participated in the Mauna Kea Summit Sunset & Stargazing Tour. The 13-seater bus was fully booked with Japanese tourists. The ride to the Onizuka Visitor Center was smooth along the paved road. At the visitor center, we had a bento box and miso soup, put on our warm clothing, and then ascended the unpaved road all the way up to 4,200 meters. The summit was very cold, and the wind exceeded 20 meters per second. The landscape resembled Mars, providing an experience that you can't have in Japan. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't favorable, and we couldn't enjoy a clear starry sky, but our guide, Mr. Kono, searched various spots to show us the stars. We later revisited Mauna Kea State Park on another day with a rental car. That time, we were blessed with clear skies and were able to enjoy a number of stars that can't be seen in Japan. This is the tour for people who like to be on there own once they get there. This is broken into two parts morning activity and afternoon activity. You have a fully narrated ride over to the North Shore telling you virtually everything about the island. Also all landmarks are pointed out. You arrive get snacks if needed. You are then dropped off at your first activity. The falls etc. Pk up time is set you meet back at bus and your off to bike,kayak,shop or lunch or whatever. Your pk up time is set for your hassle free ride back to waikiki. All fully narrated back. Worth every penny. AC was our guide and knew everything about the island. Was the highlight of our trip.
