Where is the luau located?
  • The Nutridge Estate, nestled high above the city of Honolulu at Pu’u ‘Ualak’a State Wayside Park, the Nutridge Estate has been one of Oahu’s best kept secrets since the 1920s. Located on the island’s first macadamia nut plantation, the Nutridge Estate hosts spectacular sunset panoramas and extends over twenty lush acres of paradise.

This mountain top retreat was designed by American architect Hart Wood for Ernest Shelton Van Tassel, nephew of Marjorie Merriweather Post, in 1924. The two bedroom house is made up of cedar shingles covering the outside, with high-vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors in the interior. The surrounding gardens are full of macadamia, citrus, berries and exotic Hawaiian fruit. The Nutridge Estate has hosted many celebrities over the years such as Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable, Carol Lombard and even Elvis Presley.

In the 1950's, the land was donated to the State of Hawaii and has since then been carefully reforested and maintained. We invite visitors to come experience the beautiful history, culture and environment that this land has to offer, concluding with a spectacular dinner and show!
Can I drive to the luau on my own?
  • No, due to precarious driving conditions on Mount Tantalus and limited parking at the luau venue, guests must be picked-up from Waikiki hotels only.
What kinds of luau activities are there?
  • The Big Kahuna Luau features an Island Village presentation with activities such as hula lessons, coconut weaving, ukulele lessons, and a variety of Hawaiian games.
