Suddenly, it started to rain, and I think the temperature at the summit of Haleakalā was close to 0 degrees. I felt that Iao Valley was a place with some kind of power. The people of Maui referred to it as "blessing rain." It felt like my unnecessary energy was being washed away. The hotel pickup was around 6:30, but the actual departure from the meeting spot was around 8:30, so it seems like the hotel pickup could be a bit later.

I really wanted to participate in whale watching, but since it wasn't during the peak season of February to March, I decided to enjoy the waters of Maui with this tour instead.
Since it was my first time in Maui, I chose the 9 AM tour that included a pickup service. A minivan taxi picked us up at our hotel and then picked up a family of foreigners at a nearby hotel before arriving at the meeting point by the Banyan Tree on the ocean side. We showed our voucher to the staff, and since we needed a Japanese audio guide, we received headphones in a bag and waited under the tent for a while.
Gradually, more people gathered, and we began boarding the boat heading to the submarine offshore. This is when we took photos. After about 10 minutes, we met up with the submarine and descended the ladder backward into the vessel. There were about 15 of us in total, including small children, and we were the only Japanese people. The staff seemed to be considerate, as they seated us at the very back (stern) away from the foreigners, allowing us to relax.
Underwater, there was no rocking, and since it was morning, it felt slightly dim, but the tour progressed smoothly. Along the way, we encountered a sunken ship, which made me laugh unexpectedly due to something I saw. I thought, "In a place like this..." (chuckle).
Before I knew it, the tour was over, and we surfaced. We exchanged places with the next group of people and watched the submarine descend as we headed back to the dock. Here, we were handed the photos taken before boarding (with a backing of the Atlantis) and those who wanted to buy them could pay $20.
As we were getting off, I realized that the staff member who had been next to us during the tour spoke Japanese, so they had indeed been considerate. I gave that staff member a tip as a thank you.
Overall, I made some great memories, but since I feel satisfied after experiencing it once, I rated it four stars. I hope this is helpful!

Mike our driver was fantastic and interesting. Absolutely loved the comfort of the van. Our picnic lunch was delicious and the park where we stopped was beautiful. The helicopter ride was fantastic too and show a different look of the rainforest from above, if you haven't booked this yet, make sure you do. A great company to go with.

My family and I had an amazing day with Dawn as our guide on this excursion. She was knowledgable, friendly, smart, skilled, and funny! The excursion itself introduced us to the rain forest of Maui which was beautiful in its terrain and a bit challenging to navigate. Dawn gave us all the confidence we needed so we could rise to the challenges while being gracious to those who did not choose some aspects (cliff jumping) of the tour. Overall, it was a highlight of our entire Hawaiian trip. Dawn was fantastic. Lastly, the water shoes (available for a nominal charge) are a necessity.

It was the season for whale watching, so we encountered many. Advice for participants: confirm your reservation by phone, communication is only in English during the tour, and there is a 'roll call' both going and returning for peace of mind. You can also choose the amount of food and drinks yourself, which is reassuring.

The tour was good overall. Due to weather we didnt get to swim by the waterfalls, I wish they had offered another option like more time in black sand beach, knowing that it was impossible to swim in the other part. (I had brought my swimsuit, towel and extra clothes). I liked it that they offered complimentary juices and water bottles on the bus. If you don't pay for the tour that includes lunch, there are more options to find good food walking distance from where the bus stops for lunchtime, so I didn't regret not paying for that

This was our first time going to Maui with the family and we wanted to choose the activities that would leave a great impact on all of us. And boy did we do the right choice. Doing this activity was the best experience ever! The staff was very friendly and informed us regarding safety issues, then we had our continental breakfast. On our way to the first snorkeling spot we had the chance to see some whales and that was a plus. Once we arrived to the right spot we snorkeled for about 45-55 minutes where we all had a chance to see a baby turtle swimming among us (super cute by the way). After that we continued to our second snorkeling place and it was there where we encountered more turtles and fishes. Being able to see the ocean life from a different perspective is amazing. Once we concluded our snorkeling we went back to the boat and had some delicious burgers and hotdogs BBQed for us by the staff. It was just amazing! I encourage you to do the Maui to Lanai - Dolphin Watch & Snorkel BBQ Lunch Cruise.

If you are planning a trip to Hawaii snorkeling is a MUST, believe me, you won't be disappointed. But please be aware that if you get sea sick, do yourself a favor and eat one of the bars they sell at the booth before boarding the boat. That way you will ensure to enjoy the whole experience. I participated in the 7:30 English tour. I was able to see whales. I saw spouts and tails several times, and just as we were about to head back to the port, we spotted another whale in the distance. The boat headed towards it, and this time the whale jumped and even waved goodbye at the end. I was very satisfied, especially since jumping is not something you see every day. Additionally, on the way back, we also got to see dolphins jumping up close! I think the waves were relatively calm, but when we stopped to watch the whales, the boat swayed quite a bit as we turned to face the direction where the whales appeared.

I cannot recommend the Four Winds enough! The crew are all fantastic and make you feel welcome right from the outset. Captain John is worth the price of admission alone! We were provided a great breakfast and later lunch with all drinks included, we were well looked after. The equipment used is sanitary and of a high quality and the boat itself is very comfortable.
We were lucky enough to see several wales on the way out to Molokini and the crater itself provided some of the best snorkelling you can do. The other patrons were of all ages and ethnicities and got along famously - this is a great option for those with kids too.
I find it hard to believe you could find a better way to go to Molokini than with the four winds!
Aloha Trevor,

I joined this tour mainly to snorkel, as I haven't done so for quite a well.
Too bad, though, that the winds were extremely gusty and waves very, very rough. I wish our captain, based on his experience, could have made the decision to bypass Lanai at the outset and gone straight to some friendlier waters such as Molokini, so that we didn't have to suffer through two+ hours of shuffling back and forth between Maui and Lanai.
On the positive side, I did enjoy the two snorkeling stops on the back side (Maui side) of the trip, especially watching my favorite Hawaiian green sea turtles.
BTW: happy hour pretty cool too.

We picked a day with high winds, unfortunately, so most of the trip was very rocky and choppy, causing me and several other guest to throw up. But the crew was super nice and professional in helping us cope with such otherwise very uncomfortable experience.
Due the high winds, we weren't able to snorkel around Lanai because the waters were very murky. Fortunately, it got better when we got back to Maui side. Everyone ended up having a good time snorkeling after all.
My main goal was actually to see dolphins. Too bad we couldn't find any. They saw some whales, but not me, because that's when I was throwing up.
Food was not bad. Like the captain too.

Like most things on maui, they are expensive for what they are, especially the tourist items. We found a discount early bird package and I think w paid just under $50 for two of us. We also tipped the crew $5 and paid for our picture $20...like real tourists do. Both the top and particularly the picture were optional but I got roped into it. It was early in the season also, just the start of the whale season. We did spot a few whales but they were a bit far away and hard to see. We were able to see a few from shore as well, but of course, even farther away. the weather was flawless and there is no reason that I saw not to take the early morning package for the reduced price. I would definitely try to sit up front in the future, but we sat in the back. The issue being best view, but there is enough to look at with the sides and rear that even the back is more than tolerable. We took some photos, which only included little blips of whales off in the distance. I think I would target this venue for prime season to be sure to see more. My understanding is about 4000-8000 whales will congregate.. We saw maybe 5.

While Mother Nature didn't necessarily cooperate (she rained on us the last 2 days of trip, but it might have been our fault as we stupidly asked for her to turn the wind down a bit the first 2 days ;)...) the sunset wasn't brilliant but still awe inspiring (also got a glimpse of how beautiful it could be on the flight out the next day still very cloudy - could see more color and summit as we took off...). Oh lavender farm was nice too - I'm not a lavender person but whole area was beautiful and people at farm nice.
Tour was still great - views were still stunning - dinner was really good and other people on tour were quite a fun group!

When we checked in at the dock, the lady check us in was very nice. They have you check in an hour prior to departure, which is a long time to hang out on the dock. There was no where to hang out or sit while waiting.
The crew on the boat was very nice and the food was decent. Due to the weather we were not able to go to the original destination, but the crew found a couple of spots for us to snorkel. We didn't see any Dolphins or turtles, just a few fish. We saw a whale from a distance, but we didn't hang out long enough in the same spot to see if the whales would resurface.
In all, the boat ride was much longer than expected. Most of the time was spent on the boat going to a snorkeling spot right next to the shoreline.

The experience was such that I felt the need to come back, but this time by means of a tour guide that would tell us the background of all the wonders we got to see and experience back then. This stretch of the island of Maui is so rich in history. Turns out I was right. Thanks to our tour guide/driver, Larry. He made this experience all the more magical. I am a history enthusiast. Larry touched on every aspect of this journey. From the vegetation's different species (origin, current and past uses, etc.), rock formations, the incredible waterfalls and grottos, to the towns people of present and past. Oh, and the beaches, breathtaking. I loved soaking my feet at Blacksand beach. Wish we could of stayed there longer. I appreciated our stop at the local's farmers market. Got to sample a taste of the locals organic fruits, banana bread, fruit jams and honey. I was able to purchase of everything I sampled. This is definitely a tradition for my family. When in Maui...Tour Guided Road to Hana Highway Adventure is a must. These drivers are experts, I will leave the driving to them! While I sit back and enjoy the trip.
