Smith's Family Garden Luau - Polynesian & Fire Show, Dinner and Open Bar

4.70Great luau! A little late for jet lagged kids
Reviewed by: KW, 2024/04/05Great luau! A little late for our 3 and 5 year old (no dinner, just the show). But they slept on the benches with our jackets and we were able to enjoy the show. Next time, I would plan this later in the trip than our 2nd night so the kids could have enjoyed it more. Jet lag was tough on the little ones!

“Ohana”
Reviewed by: San Francisco , 2024/03/02The Smith family really made you feel like “Ohana”. They were very welcoming and embraced and welcomed each and every guest with a pooka lai; photo, tram tour, exhibition on how pig was prepared and cooking process; unlimited buffet style meal with authentic cultural entrees, desserts and “poi”; and evening entertainment.

Must do in Kauai!!
Reviewed by: Sabra , 2023/09/21This luau is informing and very exciting! They talk a lot about the past of Kauai and ancestral history. Price point at only $25 (without dinner) is absolutely great, especially for families with little ones. Handicap seating is available. Main seating area is at a slant so if you want to sit towards the bottom (closer) come early. My 1 year old even loved it and was clapping. Attire is Hawaiian style and it’s wonderful to see all the cool outfits. Bathrooms are close by and water is provided. I felt it ran a bit short this time compared to last year but it was still super amazing and would 100% go again.

Exciting Show
Reviewed by: Gage, 2023/05/25Staff did a wonderful job. Beautiful lush garden setting. Tram and set up was wonderful. Just paid for the show -- best deal on the island. Seemed like a few dancers at different parts of the show forgot what they were doing. It was actually kind of laughable. Other than that, all-in-all it was a good time.

Beautiful property, Excellent Food. Show Is Lacking.
Reviewed by: Yuchen, 2023/02/23Really fun Luau!
GLOWS:
- Beautiful property. Got to see a peacock open its tail -Lots of great picture spots on the property.
- The food was delicious!! I finally got to try all the traditional Hawaiian food in one place. Things that I didn't get to order in the restaurants, I got here. And it was All You Can Eat which is always amazing. There was no shortage of food for sure. Since they gave you a ton of time (I think an hour?) to eat, you can take your time and go back for 2nd's or 3rd's. (All you can drink drinks but I don't drink alcohol so I enjoyed their juices which were great too!).
- Pig Ceremony!! I got to see them dig out the pig and see the whole thing. It felt special as Mr. Smith explained all that was happening.
- Good singing and hula dancing! Get on the stage and shake your booty!!
- Fire dancer in the show was great!
- This is a family run operation and we were told there were 3 generations on the property!! Keep it up!
- I appreciated the shout outs for all the celebrations that everyone was doing. From Birthdays to Anniversaries and everything in between. One big party!
GROWS:
- Honestly, a Luau is part food and part show and the show was really just lacking. There was no spirit in the performers. I'm not sure if they were bored/tired of doing it night after night or what but I felt almost bad for them(mainly the ladies). The crew was small so they had to do a lot of different dances with the same performers, there was no energy or spirit in any of the dances. Favorite part was definitely the Fire dancer - he was fantastic. The guys also carried a lot more energy than the ladies. I do appreciate the way they tried to incorporate different cultural dances into the show but they all started to look the same after one or two dances. I would've left halfway through the show if it weren't for the fire dancer at the end.

Showcase of cultural diversity with positive role models on an amazing property
Reviewed by: mromines, 2022/09/19Smith's Garden facilities were very nice and the atmosphere was wonderful. The show was different than Luau's I have seen before.
This show was a showcase of dance routines representing the different migrant groups that arrived in Hawaii. It was a show that my tween most prefered and really enjoyed. Smith's keeps in line with providing an authentic array of cast members, which makes Hawaiian preformances stand ahead from those on the mainland. You will see dancers of all ages and women of all sizes represented. It is not only important for young ones to see a variety of people represented but watching people who don't look like a barbie blowing everyone out of the water is in itself a wonderful experience.
Personally, I like Kalamaku's cohesive Tahitian migration/myth story better. Kalamaku also has a larger male presence which performs at a higher level, which I felt more appealing. That being said, I think Smith's was the right choice for bringing my kid and I appreciate that each show is original. I definitely recommend Smith's luau.

Beautiful experience
Reviewed by: Irene M, 2019/11/09We were originally not going to attend a luau but decided last minute to do so as this was recommended by locals as a must do experience. The family and staff were wonderful, absolutely loved talking to the Aunties. The food was good with a variety to choose from. The show incorporated different dances representing the different backgrounds in Hawaiian culture in addition to the Polynesian beginnings. The gardens were beautiful. Definitely recommend this luau as you get not just food and a show but a chance to walk through the gardens with a tram tour to start and also to talk to the friendly staff. They all have such wonderful stories and experiences to share!

Show was wonderful!
Reviewed by: T. G., 2019/01/22The grounds of the Smith Family Luau are beautiful, kept up well. The unearthing of the pig was a great experience. The food, well, it was okay, nothing special. The mai tai's were a funny brown color, not sure what juice was in it. The best part was the show. The music and dancers were amazing! So happy we were able to see it.

Luau Fun
Reviewed by: Bruce Cariker, 2017/09/20Very good for what it was billed as. Good food, great dancing, maybe a bit Disneyesque. The fire knife dancer was a bit into himself, milking the audience for extra applause for his displays of skill. Dinner and show were well run, smooth and essentially seamless. Dinner seating was very good. Seats at the show venue, while padded, became a bit hard and narrow after awhile. I suppose it's the tradeoff required to get that many people within a good viewing distance of the show. Worth seeing again.

Beautiful Property
Reviewed by: Randi Ellenbest, 2017/01/14We went to this luau with our two adult daughters. It was such a beautiful place to explore! We were able to walk around and take pictures. The dinner was good and nicely displayed. There was a little of something for everyone to like. The show was very good and entertaining. It got a little hard to sit for that long on the forward slanted seating though. I would recommend for a fun night.

Nice time!
Reviewed by: PATravelGal, 2016/09/21The landscaped grounds were beautiful. The host was perfect and gracious! Loved the show, which was after the dinner and even the show during the dinner. Only disappointment was the dinner. Would have thought for the price that we had something other than instant mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, rice w/seafood, and a chicken wing (other than the pulled pork). Mai Tai's were quite watered down, which was a disappointment. Not that I would want more than 2 - maybe 3 small drinks but it would have been nice to taste it somewhat.

Smiths Luau
Reviewed by: Philip Hales, 2016/05/09After being driven around the Paradise Garden we were left to wander and take pictures until the rising out of the pit of the roasted pig - the Imu. The aroma was mouthwatering, and shortly thereafter we were led to the food area, and invited to take our seats. The food was brilliant and plentisome, I doubt many would have left not feeling truly sated.
After the feast, we walked to the theatre (shame that it rained, but it did not dampen our spirits) we were presented with a show of dancing from a range of Pacific countries. The dancers (in the rain) put on a brave face and gave us a great evening. Certainly recommend this to anyone thinking of visiting a Luau.

Beautiful gardens and show!
Reviewed by: Sam, 2016/03/14Overall me and my wife had a great time at the Luau. The gardens were really nice to walk around in and see all the different types of plants and trees. The show was really nice, they showcased dances from the different cultures that make up Hawaii. The only thing that my wife didn't like was the food. I personally didn't think it was too bad. Definitely a good experience for anyone visiting the island!

Very Good Luau
Reviewed by: Debz, 2015/12/21It was a little daunting at first as this was a very rainy day in the area. Was thrilled to know that almost all of the time we would be covered. The place is in need of renovation, the chairs and other structures are in need of an overhaul, it's definitely 1970's 1980's looking. I have attended two luau's (not this one) in the past but this was the best one. It seems like a very good family and they are very attentive to taking care of everyone at the luau. The gardens are beautiful. I do think that telling everyone to be there at 4:30 and then sit around until 5:45 after a short tram tour thru the gardens is not a good use of time. The food was abundant and most was good. The drinks were not good at all. The Mai Tai was like iced tea and the other drink seemed like a glass of maraschino cherry juice. The show was excellent, very creative and spoke about the various cultural influences that make up Hawaii. It was a little cheesy but that is to be expected as it is a family event. There was definitely some excellent musical talent and singing during the luau and the dinner. I would recommend this luau to anyone. I love being at the beach at a luau but the weather is a factor and this was covered so it worked out great. The area where this luau is held is gorgeous
