Twilight Volcano Tour with Stargazing, Black Sand Beach & Coffee Farm

My partner and I went on this tour with Aaron. He was a fantastic tour guide, with lots of interesting tidbits about the history of the island and plenty of jokes. He also offered to take plenty of photos of us at all the stops. A huge thank you to him for remaining so cheerful and helpful after such a long day. If it was a long day for us, I can't imagine how long it was for him.

The tour was exactly what's stated in the description. We chose to do the tour in part because we weren't certain how to navigate Volcano National Park, and the tour offered highlights of the Park. After the tour though, I wish we had had more time on the island so we could explore Volcano National Park ourselves. Two hours wasn't nearly enough. If you're lucky (we unfortunately weren't), there will be lava at the Park. But don't worry, the volcanoes on Hawaii won't kill you, but bad tour guide jokes will (thank you for that one Aaron!).

Another highlight was Punalu'u Bake Shop. Try the pineapple malasadas: you won't regret it! I was initally hesitant because I'm not a fan of pineapple not in its raw form/juice, but the pineapple malasada was the best of those we ordered. I wish we got more. The passionfruit (lilikoi) and apple ones were also delicious.

After the bakery, we went to Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. It's absolutely lovely and a nice chance to see the endangered Hawaiian sea turtles up close. It's also very picturesque. Just don't get too close to the waves or you'll get very wet.
We finished the tour with stargazing.

Overall, I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants a quick, yet interesting and surprisingly thorough, tour of the southern part of the Big Island. If/when we go back, we would book with Wasabi Tours again.

It was a beginner course, so I thought it would be easy, but there were some challenging parts that made it very interesting. Our guide was a man named Luis, and he spoke English slowly, which made it easy for the children to understand, and they were happy about that. He also showed a lot of consideration, and I think it’s a tour that can be enjoyed by a wide range of generations along with the magnificent scenery.

The only area for improvement is the amount of downtime. We departed from Waikiki at 7:45 AM and arrived around 9:00, but the tour didn’t start until 11:30. After the two-hour tour, the return to the hotel was initially scheduled for 5:30 PM. It would have been nice to have some events to participate in, but everything was popular and sold out, so we ended up with quite a bit of free time. I asked the local staff to change to the 3:30 PM bus, but even then, we still had a lot of time to spare. I felt it would be great if there could be an improvement where we could choose the pickup time during the reservation stage.

初心者コースですので、楽々かな、と思っていたら、そこそこハードな部分もあってとても面白かったです。ルイスさんというガイドでしたが、英語をゆっくりと話してくれるので、子供たちも分かりやすかったと喜んでいました。また、いろいろ心配りもしてくれて、雄大な景色とともに、幅広い世代で楽しめるツアーだと思います。
唯一改善点は、ロスタイムの多さです。朝7:45ワイキキ出発で、９時ぐらいに到着ですが、ツアー開始は11:30。また、２時間のツアー後、ホテルへの送りは、当初17:30出発となっていました。何か参加できるイベントがあればいいのですが、どれも人気があってSold Outなので、かなり時間を持て余してしまいます。現地のスタッフにお願いして、15:30 のバスに変更してもらいましたが、それでもまだかなり余裕がありました。予約段階で、送迎時間を選択できるような改善ができるといいのにな、と感じた次第です。

I made a reservation in the morning and had an experience.
First, regarding the start time, it's not a day off even if no one is there; it's just that the tour hasn't returned yet, so it's okay to wait. Hawaii is relaxed about time! Don't worry about it.
Children can ride alone, making it a great experience. You can leisurely sway on the horse and enjoy the nature of Hawaii.
Since you can't gallop, it might be a bit lacking for those seeking excitement, but the beach horseback riding was very nice.

I have always been interested in horseback riding on the Big Island, but I couldn't find the right timing due to sightseeing at the beach and Kilauea. However, I finally got to try horseback riding.

The weather was excellent that day, especially towards Kohala Ranch, creating perfect conditions. I was a bit worried, but there were Japanese instructions available, so there were no issues at all.

First, the staff provided an explanation, and I learned about the riding posture and how to control the horse. They helped me choose a horse based on my physique, and then I let the horse take the lead. The horses were very well-trained, and I was able to have my first horseback riding experience without any problems. The experience course lasted 1.5 hours, but I ended up riding for about 2 hours.

The majestic nature and stunning scenery were addictive. Reservations were also easy to make before the trip. Thank you for a wonderful time.

There was a young boy among the customers who was scared and crying, but the staff stayed with him, and he was able to ride without any trouble at all.

The location was a bit hard to find, but we were able to get there with the help of a taxi driver using Google Maps. I went with my family, and my college and high school kids also enjoyed it. We were able to take a leisurely stroll by the seaside, and it was a priceless time that created wonderful memories. There are only portable toilets, so I think it's better to take care of that beforehand. Bottled water and soda are sold in the waiting area, but they are a bit overpriced, so it's better to bring your own or take a tumbler. Valuables and bottled drinks can be placed in the horse's luggage pocket. Other bags can be left on the shelf in the waiting area, and there is no security for them.

This was my second experience. Just like the first time, the 2.5-hour tour with the wonderful scenery and unique horses was a very enjoyable time. The guide only speaks English, but they communicate very clearly and understandably. They are very friendly and lovely people. I think it's a rare experience in Japan to be able to participate in such a long course as a beginner in horseback riding. There is an initial explanation on handling the horses, but since the horses are very smart and accustomed to the course, I felt there would be no problem if I left it to them. I would like to visit again.

Unfortunately, it rained lightly during my visit, but I was able to fully enjoy the magnificent nature. Riding the electric bike was a breeze! The guide spoke English and provided thorough explanations, which made me feel comfortable participating. As mentioned in other comments, if you're concerned about mud (which may include natural animal waste and horse manure), it's best to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. I brought disposable plastic shoe covers that I purchased from a 100 yen shop in Japan, and they turned out to be better than I expected, so I recommend them. Please refer to the photos for information about coin lockers and raincoats.

Relaxing horseback riding on the white sands of the North Shore. The horses were so smart, I can only say it was the best.

I have participated in other famous horseback riding programs in the past, but I preferred this one.

I'm worried that it might become too popular and hard to book, but it was absolutely amazing, so I highly recommend it to everyone.

I was a beginner at mountain biking, but I had no problems thanks to the pre-ride video viewing and practice sessions. I had the best experience in the wonderful nature of Kualoa, which is also a famous filming location for movies. I highly recommend it!!

I was worried about what would happen due to the unfortunate rain, but when it was time to ride the horses, the rain stopped, and the weather was just right! Since the temperature was a bit low, I wasn't too hot wearing a windbreaker over my short sleeves. All the horses were calm, and my younger child (9) had a great time riding. Along the way, the guide picked guava for us to eat! It was delicious. The guide was very fun, making jokes and giving us polite advice, which was great. The path down to the canyon was incredibly steep, which was a bit nerve-wracking, but the guide's driving was very skilled! At the end, the guide took pictures of each of us!

あいにくの雨で、どうなる事かと心配しましたが、いざ馬に乗る時になったら雨もやみ、ちょうど良いお天気に！気温が低めだったので、半袖の上にウインドブレーカーを着ても暑くなかったです。どの馬もおとなしく、下の子（9）も楽しく乗れました。　途中でガイドさんが採ったグァバを食べました！美味しかったです。とても楽しいガイドさんで、冗談を言ったり丁寧にアドバイスしてくれたりで良かったです。　渓谷に降りる道はものすごい急でちょっと肝が冷えましたが、ガイドさんの運転は慣れたものでした!　最後にガイドさんがそれぞれの写真を撮ってくれました!

All the horses were very gentle, and riding in the beautiful, vast ranch was enjoyable. Since the wind is strong, it can get chilly even if it's hot, so I think it's a good idea to borrow a riding jacket and wrap it around your waist. Be sure to let your guide know when you want to put on or take off your jacket or windbreaker, and do this while the guide is holding the horse's reins.

Jackie, our guide, explained how to ride in very clear, slow, and polite English, which was great! Thanks to that, my 15-year-old child was able to enjoy it safely. We rode a somewhat lazy horse (who kept munching on grass), but thanks to Bridget, our guide's advice, we didn't spend all our time eating grass.

It's best to leave valuables in the car. The parking space is just before you can see the reception building. If you're worried about leaving things in the car, you can also have them stored in the reception office.

When we got off the horse, it nuzzled against me, and it was so, so cute! Thank you for a wonderful experience! I want to go again.

風が強いので暑くても途中から冷えてきますが、乗馬ジャケットを貸してくれるので腰に巻いておくと良いかと思います。ジャケットやウインドブレーカーは必ずガイドさんに一声かけて、ガイドさんが馬の手綱を握ってくれている状態で着脱します。
ガイドのジャッキーさんの乗り方の説明が、わかり易くゆっくりと丁寧な英語で話してくれたのでとても良かったです！おかげで、15才の子供も安全に楽しむことができました。私たちはちょっとlazyな（すぐに草を喰む）馬に乗りましたが、ガイドのブリジットさんのアドバイスのおかげで草を食べてばかりという事も無かったです。
貴重品類は基本的に車に置いてくるのが良いです。受付棟が見える少し手前が駐車スペースです。車に置くのが心配な場合には、受付の事務室でも預かってくれます。
乗っていた馬を降りたら、馬が頬ずりしてきて、とてもとてもかわいかったです！　素敵な体験をありがとう！また行きたいです。

The zip line in the morning was wonderful, both the air and the scenery. My sixth-grade daughter also had a great time, sliding down on her own and even with the instructor since she's light. It was just an incredibly fun time that flew by.

I rode a horse for the first time. I was scared because it was such a big animal, but by the end, I was able to pet its neck and nose. The scenery was also wonderful, making it a great memory. I couldn't have a proper lunch. You need to put your belongings in a locker. Only credit cards are accepted. After riding for a full two hours, I was a bit tired. I highly recommend it!

The experience of piloting an actual airplane, which you can't do in Japan, was truly amazing. Not only the piloting but also the view from above was incredibly beautiful. The pilot and the woman guiding us on the ground were very polite. The pilot spoke only in English, but he kindly instructed us, which made us feel at ease while boarding. Although the tour cost is not cheap due to the weak yen, I believe it's worth it considering you can enjoy the scenery with a private Cessna.

I did a 2-hour horseback riding tour at Kualoa Ranch (with transportation included). Upon arrival, everything was in English for check-in and facility guidance. I had a reservation at 12:00 and arrived around 11:30, where I received a general briefing before heading to each activity. They advised us to arrive at least 15 minutes early, and if you were even a little late, they would start without waiting. Before that, I was told to put my backpack and other belongings in a locker, but the available lockers were broken and empty... With only five minutes left until the meeting time, I was anxious, but I explained the situation to the staff who gave the briefing and was able to hand my things directly to them. I accidentally left my valuables inside, which worried me, but they were returned safely after the tour. There is a small pouch holder on the horse's saddle, so you can put a small pouch (about the size of a sacoche) and water there. I could clearly see that the staff members were making a great effort to entertain the guests. Thanks to that, even though English was the main language and there were some parts of the conversation I didn't fully understand, I had a wonderful time. I also felt that they were well-trained in safety measures. This time, we went on a zip line tour as a family, and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun, creating great memories.
