I was worried about how it would be to exceed 4000 meters for the first time. After a short break at the Onizuka Center and lunch, we had an exciting trial. We took photos in various poses as a group with the sunset in the background near the observatory. I felt truly alive on this planet.

A little further down, we saw the starry sky. Luckily, the Milky Way was clearly visible, and we were able to see Saturn through a telescope. Of course, we took photos as well.

The explanations were very helpful, mixed with some Japanese. You can also borrow warm clothing and gloves. The sandwiches for lunch were very delicious.

This is a lifelong memory. Thank you!

初の4000m超えでどうなるか心配でした。　オニヅカセンターでの小休止、ランチ後、ドキドキのトライアル。天文台近くでサンセットをバックにグループごとに色々なポーズで写真撮影してもらいました。地球に生きている事を実感しました。
少し下った所で、星空を見ました。ラッキーな事に天の川が鮮明に見え、天体望遠鏡で土星も見せてもらいました。もちろん写真撮影もありました。
　日本語も随所にまじえながら説明してくださり、助かりました。防寒着上下、手袋も借りる事ができます。ランチのサンドイッチ、とても美味しかったです

This was my second time on the Big Island and my first time at Mauna Kea. My mother, who is 68 years old, was worried about altitude sickness, but thanks to our guide Shoutarou, we were able to enjoy the best sunset and starry sky at Mauna Kea without any issues. Thank you, Shoutarou! I had heard that our guide would be a foreigner, but he spoke Japanese fluently, which made me feel very relieved. However, I was disappointed by the manners of some participants in the same tour. Despite seeking more services, they got off the bus without even giving a tip (even though it was confirmed before the tour that the guide's service fee was separate) and hardly said goodbye. As a fellow Japanese person, I felt a bit uneasy about it. That wonderful tour was thanks to our guide.

The guide's explanations were excellent and interesting, allowing me to absorb a lot of the culture of the Big Island in just half a day. As we gained elevation, the ground turned reddish-brown, resembling Mars. I became quite excited, and when we got out of the car at over 4,000 meters, I felt some signs of altitude sickness, like heaviness in my body and head. However, since I was acclimatizing to the altitude, I had no issues with my condition and enjoyed the sunset for about an hour. The stargazing was also fantastic, as it was a new moon, and the Milky Way was vivid. I am very satisfied with the tour.

However, I noticed that there were too many people with low morals, such as those who did not adhere to the meeting time for altitude acclimatization (which is unacceptable for adults), sleeping in the car above the Onizuka (which is prohibited by law), and touching the Onizuka silver sword grass (even body heat can cause serious damage to alpine plants, and it is an endangered species). I believe the organizers should address these issues, and I hope for better management in the future.

I participated in the tour primarily for stargazing near the summit of Mauna Kea. Since there is an observatory set up there, I was expecting good weather, but when we arrived at the observation site, it was cloudy, and we couldn't see a perfect starry sky. Our guide managed to take some photos with a few clear spots in the sky as a backdrop. It's nobody's fault, so there's nothing we can do about it.

At the first point, we didn't encounter any manta rays, so we moved to a spot where we could meet them while holding onto the pole. Then, illuminated by the light, a manta ray appeared beautifully as if it was glowing. It was truly breathtaking. After that, it seemed like the manta was greeting us, spinning around and opening its mouth wide to suck in plankton, which excited us every time we saw it. The water temperature was a bit low, and by the time we returned to the boat, we were shivering. However, we received hot chocolate on the boat, which warmed up both our salty mouths and cold bodies a little. Thanks to the Japanese guide's attentiveness, we were able to enjoy the tour without any worries. Thank you very much. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting the Big Island.

I was excited to sign up for a plan that allows you to go to a height higher than Mount Fuji at 4,200m. I originally applied for the sunrise tour, but it was canceled due to the organizer's circumstances, so I opted for the sunset tour instead.
What I felt most when I reached the summit was just how big the sun is! It felt so close! The day before, I enjoyed a beach sunset, and while both experiences were wonderful, this was truly a one-of-a-kind experience.
The starry sky was really what they mean by "stars falling," with a sky full of stars, stars, and more stars. It was a fantastic experience to see both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Since everyone was Japanese, the tour was conducted in Japanese. It was a bit cramped in the car due to the large number of participants. There was rental available for upper and lower cold-weather gear, and it wasn't as cold as I expected.

We were blessed with great weather and saw a wonderful sunset and a starry sky. I was very satisfied. There were a total of 12 participants: 8 foreigners and 4 Japanese. Our guide, James, was a very pleasant young man who worked hard to explain in Japanese and took many photos for us. It was a very enjoyable and pleasant tour. The sandwiches for dinner were also delicious. There was no wind and it wasn't too cold, so the down coat we borrowed was sufficient.
I think everyone should participate at least once when they come to the Big Island. It became a wonderful memory. I'm glad I participated.

I have had a few horseback riding experiences on Oahu, but they were just walking tours. Here, we were able to trot a bit in a safe, spacious area. If you're scared, it's perfectly fine to just walk. You can still enjoy it. Other tours had 3-hour courses, but I think this 1.5-hour option is the best time since my backside would start to hurt.

One downside was that it took a while for the toilet tank to fill up because there was only one pipe available.

オアフ島で数回の乗馬経験ありますが、歩くだけのツアーでした。こちらの乗馬は安全な広い場所では 少し走らせたりできました。怖ければ歩くだけでもOK。楽しめます。他のツアーでは3Hコース等がありましたが、お尻が痛くなってしまうので、こちらの1.5H程度がベストタイムと思います。
ネックなのはパイプが1本しか来ていないとの理由で、トイレタンクに水が溜まるのに時間がかかりました。

It was an English-guided tour, but our guide Shou-chan explained all the important things in Japanese as well, which was very helpful. The sandwiches for dinner could accommodate vegetarians and were reportedly from a famous shop, so they were very delicious.

Unfortunately, the sunset was obstructed by sudden clouds, so we couldn't see it beautifully. However, during the stargazing time, when I was about to give up due to the clouds, the sky cleared up, and in the end, we were able to see a sky full of stars, including the Big Dipper and the Milky Way! It was very interesting to hear detailed explanations about the constellations, and we could see artificial satellites clearly.

The summit of Mauna Kea is a difficult place to reach on your own, and preparing warm clothing is also quite challenging, so joining the tour was definitely the right choice. Thank you for the valuable experience!

英語ガイドのツアーでしたが、ガイドのしょうちゃんが、大事な事はすべて日本語でも説明してくださったので、とても助かりました。
夕食のサンドイッチはベジタリアン対応もできました。有名なお店のものらしくとても美味しかったです。

サンセットは、急な雲に邪魔されて、残念ながら綺麗には見られませんでした。。
星空観察の時間も雲が多くて諦めかけていたら、、どんどん晴れてきて最後は満天の星空になり、北斗七星や天の川まで見る事ができました！
星座の詳しい解説を聞け、人工衛星もよく見えてとても面白かったです。

マウナケアの山頂は道も険しく自力では行けない所ですし、防寒具の用意も大変ですから、ツアー参加が正解ですね。
貴重な体験をありがとうございました！

I previously participated in the Sunrise Tour, so this time I joined the Sunset Tour. I was able to experience a different kind of emotion compared to the Sunrise. Also, since the stargazing was before the moon rose, the sky was filled with stars. Our guide, Masashi, provided explanations in Japanese for the Japanese guests, which was very nice.
