During the stargazing, the guides from other groups also joined in to explain, making it a truly lovely time. I was able to see a breathtaking starry sky for the first time, leaving me speechless. The only downside was that the seats were fully booked and very cramped, making the journey to and from the summit quite tough as I was half hanging out of my seat…

The table service was excellent.
The food was excellent - so delicious!
The price for premium upgrade- disappointing.
The ambiance could have been more authentic rather than long rows of very crowded tables and unbearable heat for the first 90 minutes before sunset.
Closer to the water maybe? Sail shaped tarps for shade maybe?
Definitely recommend.

Disorganized Disaster--But we did see Manta Rays

The two star review is because we did get to see Manta Rays, and they were amazing. But the company itself only deserves one star. They were a disorganized mess from start to finish and it seemed like they had never led a tour before. We showed up to the storefront on time, but they spent so much time with a family with lots of kids (making changes, asking questions, listening to their complaints, etc.) that by the time they checked us in we were rushing to make it to the boat on time. We had to park far away and were running to get to the dock. We didn't realize we didn't need to rush because the people at the dock had no idea what was going on. They couldn't organize people into groups, they counted over and over, hoping people were coming out of the bathroom, and we had to tell them that a group of three had canceled at the storefront at the last minute and wouldn't be showing up. The leader of our group seemed like she had never lead a tour before. They got us out to the viewing area with no issues, but once we arrived there was much yelling among the guides about how to turn on the light boards, how to hook them together, how to swim and pull them together, etc. The tour as advertised said everyone needed to know how to swim, but they let quite a few little children come on the tour. All of the kids were freaked out in the dark water and there was a lot of crying and screaming. Then fire worms (stinging sea centipedes that usually live at the bottom but come out to reproduce around the full moon) appeared. That was obviously not the fault of the tour guides, but we kept asking what the creatures were and our guide said she had no idea, but no need to worry (even though she's a marine biologist). Eventually mass panic ensued as people were being stung by the fire worms, so they loaded us on the boats early and took us back. My husband swam and pulled all the light boards back to the boat because the tour guides were so confused/disorganized.

But most of all, they were friendly and caring. I've never been more impressed with two tour guides! The tour showed us many interesting sites and we had a blast. It was the highlight of our trip to the big island!

I was anxious because my English isn't very good, but the guide spoke earnestly in broken Japanese, making the study of stars enjoyable.
Since we were on a mountain, it was extremely cold, but they lent us plenty of warm clothing, which was a great help.

The check-in at the meeting point near the hotel was smooth, and during the car ride, the guide explained various aspects of Hawaii's history and weather. It was a bit disappointing that, out of 12 people, 10 were Japanese, yet the in-car guide was all in English, but he explained the important points clearly in Japanese. At the sunset point observatory, we enjoyed delicious sandwiches and borrowed warm clothing, and we were able to take many photos with a special camera against the backdrop of the sunset. After that, we moved to the stargazing point and observed an orange shining star through a telescope (I forgot the name, but it was the star in the middle of Scorpio). After receiving warm cocoa from "James," who speaks a bit of cute Japanese, he used a laser pointer to explain the night sky in Japanese. The explanations were very clear and detailed, and it was fun! We could see the Milky Way clearly, spotted an artificial satellite, and even saw shooting stars in the perfect starry sky—it was the best time!

The tour on the 16th was guided by Mr. Sho Yo. This was my third time at Mauna Kea, but this was the best experience I've had so far.
