Hawaii
Kayaking is a great way to observe different snorkeling sites. Lots of friendly sea turtles and was able to hear the songs of the humpback whales. Would have liked to see more varieties of fish. For a kayaker used to a 1-person boat, the 2-person kayak was more limiting. Our guide provided a lot of information about the sea life in the area. It was very informational. Overall a good day.
We saw so many turtles! We had a little trouble with Snuba because of some ear pain, but our dive instructor was great at working with us. They even stopped on the way back for some whale watching and we saw a whole pod! Definitely recommended for a great adventure
While I was moved by seeing the whale's blow and its back and tail for the first time, I didn't get to witness breaching or experience the true size of the whale. The timing in late December might not have been ideal. It might be better to go from late February after they give birth. If you're prone to seasickness, it's better to skip lunch. My wife ended up not eating anything. I think about 10-20% of the people couldn't eat. The buffet itself didn't have much in terms of food either.
Thank you very much for participating in our whale watching cruise.
As you mentioned, the peak season for whales is from late January to February, so the number of whales may still be fewer compared to that time.
Were you able to receive the seasickness medication on board? We have a herbal remedy called ginger pills, so we recommend that those who are prone to seasickness take it when boarding. If you have the opportunity to join us again, please give it a try.
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We will use it as a reference for improving our services in the future. All of our staff sincerely look forward to your next visit.

The shaking was really intense, and it was tough. Also, I was disappointed that I couldn't see any whales.
There are staff members who can explain in Japanese, but they don't translate the other explanations, which I thought was a bit unfriendly, especially since over 60% of the tourists were Japanese. (It might be understandable since it's a foreign country, though.)
Thank you very much for participating in our whale watching tour.
Since it is a large boat, it usually doesn't sway much, but perhaps the weather was bad that day? As for the whales, since they are wild animals, it's difficult to predict when they will be seen, but the peak season is said to be from late January to February. On the 28th, about ten were confirmed, so they may have just been diving in the ocean that day.
I apologize for the unpleasant experience regarding the explanations in Japanese due to the shortage of Japanese-speaking staff.
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We will use it as a reference to improve our services in the future.

I participated in the morning plan of the whale tour that started on the 15th. Since it was the first day, I thought we might not see any whales, but we were able to see them five times! One of those times was a close-up jump. During the times we didn't see any whales, the staff continuously engaged with us, taking photos and making us feel very welcomed. I thought the morning plan was great because the air is clear and cool, allowing us to focus on searching for whales.

During my trip to Hawaii for New Year's, I went on a whale watching tour with the Star of Honolulu. I thought it would be great because even if we didn't see any whales, we could still enjoy it as a regular cruise. We did see a mother and baby whale in the distance, but it was disappointing that we couldn't see them up close or witness any jumps. However, I understand that they keep their distance for whale protection. On the boat, there was a lei-making class, which was fun. It's a good idea to take motion sickness medication beforehand.

Thank you very much for sending your feedback on the whale watching experience.
The whale watching cruises will soon begin again this season. Just like last season, our staff will do our utmost to ensure that many customers can enjoy watching whales in Hawaii.

I thought it would be perfect to participate since my grandchildren (6 and 3 years old) have a turtle at home and are interested in fish. As expected, the children were thrilled and excited about the various fish and sea turtles.
I'm glad I participated.
I was a bit anxious about participating alone, but from the moment I got on the van during the early morning gathering, all my worries disappeared!
Our guide, Yuji, was really energetic and entertained everyone with various stories! It didn't take long to drive, maybe less than an hour? During the drive to our destination, we saw different scenery from Waikiki, and Yuji shared lots of interesting information, like the hospital where President Obama was born and the famous "this tree, that tree" spot.
Once we arrived at the yacht harbor, we boarded the boat, changed into our wetsuits, put on fins, and equipped ourselves with snorkeling gear to search for dolphins! We sang songs...♪ When we spotted dolphins, we all jumped in together! The moment I put my face in the water, I immediately heard the sound of dolphins. It was so moving... I can't even count how many dolphins we saw. We got to see them jumping up close and felt like we were in the same ocean at the same level as them.
After that, we went to a turtle spot. At a depth of about 15 meters, I saw three turtles swimming gently below. When I looked up, there was a turtle right next to me, swimming at the same level! I was a bit startled☆ but it was so cute. Although it was a dolphin tour, I was really moved to swim with the turtles.
On the way back, we enjoyed a leisurely tea time with everyone, having some tea and snacks♪ It felt like a little cruise! Participating alone was no problem at all. We were mostly in the water, and chatting on the boat was fun too. It became a wonderful memory♪
Thank you, Yuji!!!!
i highly reccomend this to anyone! This was our first time doing any type of interaction with sharks, and it was one of the coolest things i have done. It is truly amazing to see sharks in their natural habitat and so close to you.
Hawaii Shark Adventure was one of my top activity during a 9 day Hawaiin vacation.activity. It does not beat sex; but I ski double black diamond runs in Colorad and Utah with over a foot of fresh powder and the Shark Adventure rivals that feeling of exhilaration and adventure. A short 15 minute boat ride from the Harbor to the location and then 20 minutes inside the shark cage. I counted over 9 Galapagos sharks swimming around (and under) the cage. Great photo oppurtunities (I got several great shots of just sharks under the water as well as looking at them from the boat). I would recommend this activity to my friends, family, and anyone in good health. My only only advise is for better viewing and photo opps; you need to take a deep breath and go to the bottom of the cage to avoid getting bumped and elbowed by the other guests (not to mention their hands of elbows getting into your photos).
Last time I had a very disappointing experience on a different tour, so to be honest, I wasn't expecting much this time either... But it was incredible!!! We searched for dolphins, and when we found them, everyone jumped into the sea at once! When I looked into the water, the dolphins were swimming really close by. I was so moved. Then, we also encountered sea turtles during the second hour. I was so impressed that I ended up participating twice during my stay (^O^)/ I highly recommend Dolphin Junior High. The staff were all really fun, and I'm glad I participated. I definitely plan to join again next time.
I participated on January 22, 2010.
(I forgot to upload the photos, so I'm reposting.)
I chose this tour because the catamaran Navatek can go to areas where regular cruise ships cannot, minimizing the swaying and increasing the chances of observation.
Right after departure, there was an announcement saying, "You can observe whale spouts at 3 o'clock." I started to feel restless and couldn't leisurely enjoy my lunch anymore. So, I quickly went out to the deck.
Once a whale is spotted, the captain usually aligns the boat at 12 o'clock, making it very easy to observe. Since whales are protected, there is a rule that we cannot approach within 100 meters. However, it's okay if the whale approaches us, so we turn off the boat's engine to observe.
On this day, the whales were very active, and I was able to see a lot of tail slapping and fluking. Whenever I thought I saw a spout, they would do it. Also, they breached right in front of us just once. I was so excited!! They jumped out of the water completely, and the sound of the splashes was powerful and amazing. I was truly moved.
Thanks to this experience, I felt really glad to have participated!
On this day, there were 2 to 3 whales in the group that the Navatek was observing. I could also see spouts from the Star of Honolulu in the distance, so it seemed like there were really many whales in this area.

I had a really great time! I'm glad I went. I bought the photos taken at the pool! I also wanted a video, but I heard the machine was broken, so I couldn't purchase it. That was very disappointing.
I was moved beyond words.
I was touched by the high transparency of the sea, where I could see the spotted patterns of rays swimming beneath the surface. I was also moved by the faint sounds of dolphins crying underwater, as if they were speaking to me, and by the attentive service of the staff... My heart was filled with wonderful sparkles.
This tour feels like swimming alongside wild dolphins while they are sleeping, which is quite different from the dolphin swims at Sea Life Park or the dolphin activities at the Kahala Hotel, where you can touch the dolphins closely. If you expect that kind of interaction, you might feel a bit unsatisfied...
However, you get to experience the dolphins in their natural, free state, and the majestic beauty of nature, which is incredibly healing.
I highly recommend this tour, where the stress from Japan melts away in the beautiful sea, leaving your heart feeling light!! I will definitely join again the next time I go to Oahu.

I thought the price was a bit high, but I had a great time playing with the dolphins. If you're going to do it, the Dolphin Royal Swim is the way to go. The fun is on another level.
I watched it once at a different time, so even without Japanese, I understood.
The Hi-light of our trip. The crew was AWESOME. They were very informative as well as entertaining. Even though we were in the ocean with a lot of sharks we still felt completely safe. This is the closest you can come face to face with nature w/o fearing for your life (well, almost - it is a little scary at first). The sharks are amazing animals. Can't put into words what its like to look a shark in the eye. You have to see it for yourself. We were in the cage for about 20-30 minutes, but it seemed like an hour and there was plenty of room. If you tend to get sea sick just take a pill and do it anyway. You won't regret it. Definately get the DVD, its about $65 and worth every penny. I'm pretty cheap myself, but knew I couldn't pass the DVD up. Totally worth it. Just DO IT and don't forget your underwater cameras.
We took a boat from Waikiki out to sea and transferred to a submarine.
The sea around Waikiki had waves, and I got seasick on the boat to the submarine. If you are prone to motion sickness, I recommend taking medication in advance.
The underwater scenery is very beautiful, and it's recommended for those who can't swim (or dive). We were lucky enough to see sea turtles and sharks. It was great to see the clear, beautiful ocean.
When the submarine surfaced and submerged, it was really cool. A must-see!
I participated two years ago as well. This year, I swam with many dolphins again. Last time, I brought a jacket, but it was really cold while on the boat, so I was thinking of bringing a wetsuit this year, and there was a rental available. My family had an amazing time both last time and this time, but there were some people who couldn't get in the water at all due to seasickness, so I think it's best for those who are anxious to definitely bring motion sickness medication.
I will definitely participate again next time.
I participated with my 3-year-old child. We kissed and touched dolphins. We were very satisfied. There was also a place where we could feed sea lions and sea turtles, and Sea Life Park was very satisfying.

I participated in the Dolphin Royal Swim. At first, I wasn't sure where the location was and arrived a little late, but I was moved to be able to swim at the same level as the dolphins. By noon, those dolphins were performing in a show, and I grew even fonder of them. I think it's a great activity for families.
I participated with my spouse and our 5-year-old son on September 27, 2010. We arrived at the location for check-in at 6:00, and while preparing our wetsuits and snorkeling masks, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset before boarding the boat that was docked nearby.
I thought we would head out to sea, but it turned out we were quite close to shore, right in view of the Sheraton. After arriving, we received various explanations in English before preparing for the night snorkeling. I later learned that the area in front of the Sheraton is a famous spot for manta ray sightings, and the Sheraton is well-known for being a hotel where you can see manta rays.
Near the boat, there were floating devices that you could hold onto, and we swam there using a noodle, which is a stick-shaped flotation device. (They also provide life jackets for those who need them.) By the way, there are stairs in the center of the boat that lead down to the sea, where you enter the water.
My 5-year-old son was quite scared since it was his first time in dark and deep water, but he was able to see a manta ray (though he quickly came back up). He was happy to see other fish from the boat.
That day, there were quite a few manta rays, and they came very close, which was quite impressive. Even though we were told that manta rays do not attack people and that they have no mouths to bite, it might still be a bit intimidating for adults (laughs).
By the way, we were repeatedly told not to touch the manta rays, and since this was explained in English, it’s best to listen carefully. Also, when watching the manta rays, you need to keep your body horizontal and not let your legs dangle down. They were saying "FLAT! FLAT!" in English, but it took me a little while to realize what they meant...
Additionally, there were other fish besides the manta rays, and it seems you can snorkel freely near the boat, so I highly recommend this for those who have never done night snorkeling or seen manta rays before.
By the way, there was no place to change, so I wore my swimsuit and changed in the car on the way back. There is a restroom nearby, so you might be able to use that, but I haven't confirmed it.
Things you should bring include a camera for underwater video recording, a waterproof flashlight, and warm clothing.
Also, I tend to get seasick, so as expected, I couldn't eat or drink on the boat. Those who don't get seasick can enjoy snacks and hot drinks.
FLAT!
I had no idea there was a tour to swim with manta rays until I saw this site, so I signed up immediately.
As for my experience... Unfortunately, I could only see one manta ray, but it was still a valuable experience and I was satisfied! The number of rays you can see seems to vary quite a bit from day to day, so I'm looking forward to next time.
The night sea is pitch dark. There was someone with a light that can be used underwater, which I thought was a great idea. Also, I participated in September, and it was colder than I expected, so I think having a thick jacket would be a good idea.
The sunset and stars viewed from the boat were incredibly beautiful!
It was great to see the elegantly swimming sea turtles up close, which were actually quite larger than I imagined. It felt like I was swimming alongside them while snorkeling.
I also challenged myself with snuba, and although I struggled a bit, it was wonderful to experience the fish and underwater scenery that you can't see with just snorkeling.
My wife seemed to struggle with seasickness, but TAKAKO was very kind and supportive, which was a big help. Having Japanese staff really brings a sense of安心.
I would love to participate again if the opportunity arises.
Three miles offshore. The depth is 40 to 50 meters!!
Looking down from the stopped boat, I saw a dark shadow...
Could it be already? As I strained my eyes and looked around again, I spotted not just one or two, but about ten sharks visible from the surface...
It was more awe-inspiring than scary.
I often saw the dorsal fins breaking the surface on TV, and it was exactly the same scene.
Now, into the cage!
I was astonished by the deep blue sea and the sharks.
I think I had a rare experience. It's a bit pricey, but it's worth it.
It was quite good. The kids were excited.
I had seen footage on TV of manta rays gathering around light to feed on plankton, but seeing them in person was a completely different experience!
We got incredibly close, almost within reach of them, and it was my first time entering the ocean at night and seeing manta rays up close. I believe this experience holds significant value! We observed while holding onto something like a raft on the water, and since I was at the farthest end from the boat, the manta rays came quite close to me. This is just my interpretation, but perhaps being at the edge allows the manta rays to have an escape route, making them less skittish (laughs).
Here are a few points for those participating:
1. Be sure to borrow a wetsuit. It was the middle of summer, but the ocean at night was still cold. They will provide masks and fins while on land, so make sure to ask for a wetsuit at that time. For those who are sensitive to cold in winter, it's advisable to bring a rash guard or wear two wetsuits for extra warmth.
2. Capture videos instead of still images. Still images don’t turn out as beautifully as in the posts. Flash is completely ineffective. Using a waterproof camera for video or preparing a waterproof case for your camera will allow for better footage. I couldn't post due to storage issues, but the videos turned out really well.
3. If you are prone to seasickness, prepare some medication. Generally, you just float, so even those who aren't confident swimmers can participate in this activity (though it can be a bit nerve-wracking since it's dark at night). Just floating can still make you feel queasy due to the waves, and even though the boat ride is only about five minutes, some people feel sick during the briefing on the water. It seems that standing in a spot where the wind hits you more is less likely to cause seasickness than sitting, but if you're worried, it’s best to take some medication beforehand.
4. All instructions are in English. They will explain not to walk around while wearing fins, to keep your legs horizontal while floating to attract manta rays, that flash photography bothers them, and where the restroom is located. There will be no Japanese spoken, so if you don’t speak English, pay close attention to the actions of those around you.
5. Bring as few belongings as possible and avoid taking valuables. Most belongings are left unattended on the boat, so try not to bring valuables with you.
we had a great time, lots of sharks....
To be honest, I wasn't very enthusiastic about it, but I participated in the Dolphin Adventure to accompany my friend. In reality, I had a lot of fun during the program.
● I couldn't understand English, but I managed to get by by watching others. ● The program started at 9:30, and by the time we finished showering and changing, it was already 11:00. ● Lockers with keys can be rented for $2. ● DVDs are sold for $50, and photos for $16. ● I think it would be quite tough to spend time until the afternoon pickup (2:30) if you join the morning program. We took a bus back to Waikiki just after 1:00. *Make sure to inform the driver in advance.
I felt the cost performance was a bit lacking, but considering the training and effort involved with the dolphins, I guess it's understandable.
Sharks were amazing, staff was amazing, the whole adventure was worth it. Sharks are right in front of your face and I even had a stare down with a shark. He was lucky I needed air our I would've punched him in the gill. Will do again!
We headed out to the shark cage at 7:30 am and sadly no sharks. The crew was as disappointed as we were and let us know that if we didn't have a shark experience they would reschedule us or refund our money. Lucky for us there was a cancellation on a boat later that morning - so we headed out again - and we were not disappointed. 5 - 6 sharks circled the cage the entire time we were on the water. Nothing like looking a shark in the eye! Fabulous time and would recommend it to anyone wanting to have an up close and personal experience with a shark(s).
