This tour was exactly what we were looking for...all details taken care of. All we had to do was get ourselves to the Kona Airprt. Our tour guide, Moana, met us at the airport in Honolulu and explained every step of the way...where and when to meet her for the next stop. All of the memorials were so special and we felt such gratitude to these soldiers who risked and gave their lives for us. The USS Missouri was especially impressive to us for its enormity and how she continues to serve our country as a representative of the great battleships that protected our country.

As we left the shoreline, the captain noticed several whales breaching in the distance. He asked if we wanted to go past the reef to see it and we all said yes, of course. We spent most of the 30 minutes whale watching from a distance. On our return trip, the crew still found time to pass over the reef and explain several interesting details not only about the reef but the animals the call it home. It was a great time and the crew did a great job!

This is a luxurious tour where you can enjoy whale watching, dolphin watching, sea turtle viewing, and snorkeling all on a cruise charter. We participated as a family of six across three generations, and with two staff members accompanying us, one of whom entered the water to provide guidance and support, my 78-year-old mother, who has paralysis on her right side, was truly grateful to be able to snorkel together. After snorkeling, there was a service of tropical fruits, juice, and snacks, which I believe offers great value for the price. I especially recommend private charters for families with small children or elderly individuals.

My husband and I and our two kids (ages 8 & 6) rode in the 4-seater and it was great fun! Driving through the mud was slippery and exciting and while we all got a bit muddy and wet the UTV protects you from most of the splash. Our favourite bit was swimming in the waterfall. There were life vests for the kids which made it easy not to worry about them. The water was cold but really refreshing and beautiful. The guides were great and helped us out of a few jams after we fishtailed off the track!

Captain Cook Express 2.5-Hour Ocean Raft Adventure - Snorkel at Kealakekua Bay

No time to relax on this excursion. We flew to Captain Cook on a zodiac boat with little room to sit or move about. The snorkeling was OK and the guides were helpful. Everything felt rushed from the get go. This trip sure gave us a lot of chuckles when rehashing our day.

I couldn't see any dolphins, whales, or turtles, not even a shadow or a hint of their presence, and I felt no motivation to search for them. The first snorkeling spot had hardly any fish, yet we were made to swim there for a long time. The second snorkeling spot was really great, but I got cold and tired from the first spot, so I ended up spending less time at the second one, which was disappointing. The hot dog for lunch had a sickly red sausage that was surprisingly bad, and I couldn't eat it. It was the worst hot dog I've ever had; I always thought you couldn't make a hot dog taste bad no matter how you prepared it, so I was shocked. There were no pineapples. The boat was simpler than I expected and rocked a lot, making it uncomfortable to ride. I thought the quality for this price was terrible.

I would not change one thing about this tour. It exceeded our expectations. the communication before the experience was excellent. Jason was an exceptional guide - so attentive! He is an expert in astronomy and Hawaiian history which we greatly enjoyed. He had a great telescope and a cool machine that takes pictures of celestial objects in the sky that he EVEN EMAILED TO US LATER! Just wow! The chicken stew was delicious too! I participated in an English-only tour because the Japanese-speaking reservations were fully booked. The experience itself was impressive, as there are many similar tours in the area, and manta rays regularly approached us. The staff was also very accommodating. However, the time spent floating in the sea was quite long, and it can be tough if you don't have the stamina to hold onto the float. My wife had to retire midway. There were no unnecessary services, so it was relatively inexpensive, and it might be a good option for those looking for this kind of experience.

This is my third manta tour, and each one has been different. This time, I felt the most at ease. Having support from Japanese staff was really helpful. The moment the manta appeared was truly breathtaking. However, it was quite cold during this season, and the return trip to the port was chilly, so those planning to go should prepare accordingly.

You can enjoy a horseback riding experience in the wonderfully beautiful nature shown in the photos. The horses are all gentle and well-trained, and even as a beginner, I had a great time riding.
There are Japanese versions of the notices and forms available on-site.
The guide speaks only in English, but they talk very slowly and clearly.
Wearing a helmet while riding is optional, but it's best to wear one.
The ranch is located at an altitude of about 1000 meters, and it can get quite cold when the wind blows or it rains. They can lend you a jacket, but make sure to prepare for the cold as well.

Brett was an excellent tour guide. Funny engaging and informative. It is a long day as the island is rather large. Greenwell Farms (coffee farm) was our first stop. Excellent coffee! Brett explained the growing and harvesting process, followed by tasting and souvenir purchases. Then on to the Punalu'u sweetbread bakery for treats. I lived the Lilikoi flavored pastry. Nice gift shop also. Next stop was Punalu'u black sand beach with a bonus sleeping turtle. Quick provided tasty lunch at a shady state park. Next into Volcano National Park. Brett has fantastic volcano pics. Kilauea was steeming and erupted hours later. Traveled down a large lava tube, very cool. Huge old lava fields. Next on to Rainbow falls and majestic Akaka falls on the East side of the island. On the North end, we visited Waipi'o lookout for sunset. It was along day, but excellent. Strongly recommend. Brett made the trip very enjoyable.

Right after we set off, we spotted a pod of dolphins near the exit from the port. They even showed us some jumps. The snorkeling point seemed to be beginner-friendly since there were children, but the waves were quite rough, and there were only a few types of fish, so it wasn't a very impressive experience. As a result, some participants got seasick, and although it was a tour that included lunch, when I mentioned that I couldn't eat, nothing was provided, and the tour ended. I wasn't able to ask because my English isn't very good, but I wish they had at least asked if I wanted to take something back.

Waipi'o Valley looks very different from above compared to when you actually descend into it. Once you step onto the land, you can feel as if you are in the village from the movie Moana. The guide was very friendly and explained the plants and flowers during the tour. The scent of the vanilla flower that was picked and handed to me lingers in my nose.

I don't think too many people know about this, but it is an excellent experience. Our driver was a Waipio local who drove us down into the valley - a sacred place in Hawaiian culture - and showed us the beauty, the self-sufficient culture, and the hydroponics. We also got to see horses extremely up close on the way back (this is not guaranteed though). Most of all, I appreciated the commitment to preserving nature and living in harmony with it. Do go and check it out!
