Great transportation, very knowledgeable guides/drivers, wonderful "star gazing," well prepared food (too much for one person to eat at one meal!) with stainless steel table service, warm parkas and gloves provided. Recommend wearing jeans, sneakers and socks, and perhaps a light jacket to wear under the parka. Understand that it will be cold at these altitudes and be wary of altitude sickness if you are normally near sea level. Be well rested when you go and altitude shouldn't be a problem since a couple of rests (and restroom stops) as you ascend are provided. On the ride back after excellent stargazing and a hot drink and cookie, really nice and varied selections of music were played! I've never seen such wonderful sky views! Hope to come again and bring grandchildren!

We were able to kayak into a large sea cave before paddling over to our snorkeling destination. Many were adventurous and jumped off the 25 foot high cliff into the water, including my husband! One of our daughters and I snorkeled away from the main group a bit and I saw a few hundred yellow tang - more than I've ever seen before! There were many other kinds of fish there as well as Hawaii's state fish. Our oldest daughter had her snorkeling cut short when she got stung by a small jelly fish on the foot, as did one or two others in our tour, but that's a risk when in the ocean. Kevin and another Ocean Safari staff member who was there with his own tour both checked on our daughter after getting her back in the kayak. We had some snacks on the rocks near the tide pools before heading back to the kayaks for the

I participated on May 20th.
First, the reception desk was set up in front of the Body Glove boat. Staff members arrived a little before the meeting time. It seemed there were no staff who spoke Japanese, but everyone was very gentlemanly and friendly, and they kindly listened even to my broken English, which was helpful.
We encountered a pod of dolphins right after departure. I think there were about 20 of them. It was my first time seeing wild dolphins, and I was moved. By the way, we encountered them again at the same spot on the way back, so they might always be there during this time of year.
After that, it took about 40 minutes to reach the snorkeling point. There was guidance in English along the way, but I couldn't catch it because it was too fast. However, they showed us a Japanese explanation sheet, so it was not a problem at all.
You can enjoy snorkeling for over two hours at a depth of about 5 to 10 meters where there are coral reefs. The water was a bit cold and somewhat chilly, but the visibility was high and there were many fish, so I had a great time. There seemed to be life jackets available, but I was strongly recommended to use a noodle, which is a long foam float, and when I tried it, it was indeed easy to use. Of course, they also lend you a snorkel and fins.
As for meals, as soon as you get on the boat, you can freely take breakfast (bread, muffins, fruit, drinks), and when you arrive at the snorkeling point, lunch (bread, ham, vegetables, potato chips, drinks, etc., all of various kinds) is provided, which you can also eat freely. The taste was just average, but I thought it was good that there were various options.
We were the only Japanese participants, but I think it’s a tour that is easy to join because the staff is very polite. One point to note is that the boat sways quite a bit, so I think it would be safer for those who are prone to motion sickness to take some medication before participating.

I was able to see dolphins. I was a bit worried because it seemed that some people couldn't see them, but during my visit, perhaps due to the timing, I was able to see dolphins swimming from the hotel balcony in the morning, so I wasn't too concerned. By the way, it was around mid-May, during the new moon phase (which may not be related).
As soon as we set sail, we saw dolphins up close, and I was really excited. I regretted not taking pictures because I thought we would be snorkeling there. We ended up snorkeling at another location, which had beautiful coral reefs. They provided masks and fins, and just floating in the sea was very soothing and enjoyable. There were always meals and drinks available, and the shower and restroom were clean, so I thought it was a nice experience. It felt more like a relaxing playtime.
I also did diving as an option. I didn't understand the language, but they properly informed us about the dive sites and guided us, so I had a lot of fun. However, once you start diving, the free time (if you can call it that) becomes limited. I thought it would be amazing if we could dive in the area where the dolphins are.

We traveled to the snorkeling point by rubber boat, and we immediately encountered swimming sea turtles in the harbor. Once we hit the open sea, we sped towards our destination. The sudden increase in speed made me think I might be thrown into the water at first (laughs), but I quickly got used to it and enjoyed the beautiful blue sea and the coastline of the Big Island while cheering on the bouncing boat.
Kealakekua Bay, where Captain Cook's monument is located, is a natural spot facing steep cliffs. The waves were calm, making it safe for me, even as a first-time snorkeler. I had a great time, but when I got back and looked in the mirror, I noticed my back and the back of my thighs were sunburned and my butt had clear tan lines from my swimsuit. Please make sure to apply sunscreen thoroughly before you go!

I joined the afternoon tour, but it was cloudy that day, and the snorkeling time at Kealakekua Bay, which I was looking forward to, felt a bit dark underwater. If you can wake up early, I think the morning tour would have better weather conditions. Although I stayed in Kona, it often became cloudy in the afternoon even if it was sunny in the morning.

To start off with when we were making reservations transportation aparently wasn't available. Don't let them tell you that. They have vans and make pick-ups from the hotel we stayed in. We took the big island spectacular 2 hour. It was nice. The volcano part wasn't what i thought. I expected to see flowing lava. All you see is the top crust of past lava flows. Even the volcano vent wasn't what I thought it would be. The VOG was so thick thast about all you could see. A little let down. Although the 2nd part was the tropical rain forest. We had a nice ride along the ocean front. Went up the valleys and saw more waterfalls than I could keep track of. Pilot even sighted some whales and circled for us. Wind turbulance in some of the valleys made me tighten my seat belt a bit. Later I learned the pilot is a retired coast guard pilot. Wish I knew that going in, I would have been a bit more relaxed.
