Our guide, Shoutarou, was amazing!! At the summit, he took some fun photos with the sunset as a backdrop, and he had a wealth of knowledge about the starry sky, making the tour enjoyable without a dull moment. He also looked out for the guests to prevent altitude sickness (it seems that falling asleep during the journey can make you more susceptible to it), demonstrating great leadership as he guided us. Staying at an altitude of 4,200 meters is an activity you absolutely must experience when you come to the Big Island, something you can't do while in Japan!

Got to get out and walk along the water, pet and feed horses, and learn all about the history of the beautiful, Hawaiian valley. It was truly a wonderful experience.

We were blessed with great weather and were able to see a sunset like no other.

Just after the sun set, the weather seemed to turn bad, and it looked like we wouldn't be able to do any stargazing. However, thanks to the guides who didn't give up and persevered, we were able to see a beautiful starry sky! It definitely ranks among the top three starry skies I've seen in various places.

The guides were very kind, and luckily, one of them spoke Japanese, so they explained everything in both languages. I was very impressed by their hospitality.

If I have the opportunity again, I would definitely want to join this tour.

I was torn between the sunrise tour with a Japanese guide and the sunset tour with an English guide, but I chose the sunset tour. There were no other Japanese participants besides us, and although we are not fluent in English, the guide helped us by speaking in Japanese at times, which was very helpful. He was happily and contentedly watching from a spot where we could see the sunset and the Subaru Telescope. Seeing him like that made me happy as well. また星空については満月になって2日目という悪条件でしたが、満天の星に天の川・流れ星もみることができて大満足です。天体望遠鏡で土星をみせてくださったりレーザーをあてて星のレクチャーもしてくださいました。なんといっても天の川と一緒の写真は初体験で記念になる1枚となりました。そんな至れり尽くせりのガイドさんは日本語が上手で気さくなショウタロウさん。日本人ではないのですが参加者の半数が日本人だったこともあり、車の中でも着いてからもすへて英語と日本語で説明してくださいました。本当にラッキー！言葉がわかったので体験に深みがでたと思います。
サンドイッチも星空でのホットココアもおいしくて、本当に最高の体験でした。

Our guide was from Hawaii, born on Maui, and has been living on the Big Island for two years. He was handsome, had a great voice, and was genuinely kind. The weather wasn’t ideal — it was cloudy, though we did see the sea of clouds and a bit of sunlight breaking through. It still felt magical watching the sunset above the clouds, even without a clear sky. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see any stars that night, probably due to the season (I went in late October). But the next day, on another tour, I did see a sky full of stars — so it’s still possible! Be prepared for altitude sickness; I felt lightheaded at the summit and was glad we descended soon after sunset. Overall, it was a good experience despite the bumpy mountain road — and it felt great to have “checked off” the highest mountain in the world (from base to peak).

I signed up for this as an activity for my honeymoon. The tour guide was very friendly and kind, providing advice to avoid altitude sickness and explaining the scenery visible from the car window on the way to Mauna Kea, making the journey enjoyable. The sunset from the summit of Mauna Kea was incredibly precious, and I had a luxurious time. During the stargazing tour, I was able to see many stars shining in the night sky, as well as the Milky Way and moving satellites.

They lend you warm clothing, which is reassuring, but it would be good to bring a sweatshirt, hand warmers, thick socks, and leggings to wear under your pants, and change at the visitor center during breaks. The price is a bit steep, but I think it will create unforgettable memories in life. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is considering it.

It was great that the guide tried hard to communicate in Japanese. However, overall it was difficult to understand, and the special feeling of the tour was lacking. I thought it might have been better to rent a 4WD and go on our own.

We were the only Japanese participants. It truly felt like an overseas trip. The guide is also focused on environmental protection, practicing the balance between nature conservation and tourism on the Big Island.

Additionally, they pay attention to the safety of tour participants, allowing us to enjoy the experience with peace of mind. There were plenty of fish swimming around, and the water clarity was high, making it a fun tour.

Lunch and breakfast were simple but delicious. I would love to participate again when I come back to the Big Island.
