Our tour included three couples from the mainland besides my husband and me. There was also a Japanese tour with a guide fluent in Japanese at the same meeting time, but the instructions and riding techniques were explained so thoroughly that we had no trouble at all with the English tour.
I was unsure about wearing a helmet. If you're worried, you can wear one, but the other couples weren't wearing helmets, so we decided not to. All the horses were well-trained (though some were quite greedy and tended to wander off), so it was fine without a helmet.
There was a bag available at the stable that you could borrow for free. You can put drinks, smartphones, and digital cameras in it. One person on the same tour attached a handle to their digital camera and took lots of photos while riding. I thought it would be a hassle to carry a selfie stick, so I just took my smartphone, but I was nervous about dropping it while taking pictures. I wished I had attached it to the selfie stick.
We also rode through the beautiful nature along the river, soaking in plenty of negative ions.
It was an afternoon tour, and it drizzled a bit on the way, but we were lucky that it didn't rain at Waipi'o! I would love to go horseback riding again when I visit the Big Island.

私たちのツアーには私たち夫婦以外に本土からのカップルが3組でした。同じ集合時間で日本語が堪能なガイドによる日本語ツアーもありましたが、注意事項も乗り方も丁寧に教えて下さるので英語でも全く不便はありませんでした。
迷ったのはヘルメットの着用。心配なら着用、他のカップルは着用なしだったので着用なしで。馬はどの子も良く調教されてるので（一部かなり食いしん坊で寄り道の多い子もいましたが）ヘルメットなしでも大丈夫でした。
馬屋に蔵につけるバッグがあり、無料で借りれます。
飲み物やスマホ、デジカメなど入れておくことができます。同じツアーの方がデジカメにハンドルをつけて乗馬しながらバシバシ写真を撮ってました。私は荷物になるかとスマホの自撮り棒を外してスマホのみ持って行きましたが、落としそうでハラハラしながら撮影してました。自撮り棒につけていけば良かったなと思いました。
大自然の中川の中も進んで行きます。マイナスイオンをたっぷり浴びてきました。
午後からのツアーで、行く途中パラパラと雨が降っていましたが、ワイピオは雨が降らなくてラッキーでした！またハワイ島に行った時には乗馬したいです。

It was my first experience riding a horse, but I got used to it in about 30 minutes. The guide was flexible and provided support throughout the ride. Since we walked along narrow paths in the valley, the horse stopped to drink water and eat grass along the way, and we even passed by cars, which helped me improve my reins handling. They also took some great photos.

The meeting point was quite far and hard to find. I was a bit nervous during the journey, but somehow I understood the pickup fee.

乗馬初体験でしたが30分ほどで慣れてきました。
ガイドの方が前後について、臨機応変にサポートしてくれました。渓谷の細い道を歩くので途中で馬が水を飲んだり草を食べたり、途中で車とすれ違うことも、おかげで手綱さばきも上手くなりました。いい写真も撮ってくれました。

This was my second trip up to the summit of Mauna Kea for the Sunset & Stargazing Adventure. The drive up this time was smoother than the first, thankfully, and our guide was excellent. You could tell he was well-informed on all the topics he discussed. The catered Hawaiian dinner was very tasty, and in sufficient quantity to satisfy a good appetite. The only drawback this time was that the clock-drive on the telescope was not working, which took away from our ability to look at celestial objects at high magnification. I recommend this trip, and also that the tour company repair their clock drives!

If you have the opportunity to visit Hawaii and the big island is on your agenda, the tour to the top of Mauna Kea is a must do !! The journey up and down the mountain is exhilarating, the views on the way up, stunning and the views from the top at sunset - unforgettable!!!!
Of course the weather gods can have their say and you could be unlucky.
Very impressed by the capability of our driver Joe who also made our star gazing even more memorable with his explanations and knowledge. You will leave with an impression of how “special” it is to visit the top of Mauna Kea and with an understanding of why the Hawaiian people see it as a place to be treated with respect

It takes a long time to get on the horse. We went down the valley in a four-wheel drive vehicle, and it was quite an old car! The engine warning light was on, which was a bit scary.
The horses are well-trained, so it's safe. Even beginners will be fine.
Also, you can't go to the bathroom for about three hours. Just a heads up. Plus, the bathroom you can use before that is really dirty!

Its was a great tour as advertised, Pick up was on time. and Gordon is a good driver, friendly, take good cares of everyone. He and his buddy provided a great service for the entire tour. This is a great tour to take if you are just visiting big island for vacation. We were traveling light, dont want to prepare winter cloth. the tour provides what we need on the mountain. It was one of the best tour we took in big island. definitely will do again~~

The guys were awesome. Made it fun. The horses were strong and healthy. The scenery was breathtaking, green and lush. We would have liked to ride the horses through the waterfalls, same price, but this was good too. There were wild horses and donkey that let you pet them. Overall our experiences was great. I actually wanted to go horseback riding in Waipi'o Valley, but I couldn't make a reservation, so I gave up. I was able to make a reservation for horseback riding at the ranch, so I participated here instead. They didn't speak any Japanese at all, but they explained things in simple English with smiles, so I hardly had any trouble. They provide Western boots, socks, parkas, jackets, and bags, so you can go hands-free without any issues. I left my valuables with them, but I took a drink, camera, and phone in my bag. Sneakers would be fine, but I think it's better to borrow boots. I had my own socks, so I wore those. Did we ride for about 1.5 hours? We galloped and trotted around the vast ranch grounds. Since my husband was almost a beginner, I thought we would just walk, but he looked at the situation and asked if we wanted to try running, and we did a few times. The horses do gauge people to some extent, but they are calm and listen well, so I wasn't particularly worried. They smiled and said, "Come back again next year!" Thank you very much! I want to come again!

Looking at the participants, my husband and I were the only Japanese. The rest were all foreigners, including Americans, Germans, Poles, and Portuguese. Additionally, the guide was an American who couldn't speak Japanese. To top it off, we were asked to introduce ourselves in English in front of everyone at the beginning of the tour. However, since we came all the way to a foreign country, a tour like this, rather than one with only Japanese participants, was quite nice! I was able to catch a glimpse of how Americans think and their everyday habits. The trekking and birdwatching were truly immersive experiences, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, making me feel how small humans are in the grand scheme of nature and the depth of the natural world. For those considering joining in the future, be sure to bring long sleeves and long pants, as well as rain gear and a hat to prepare for the temperature and rain. Also, I recommend wearing lightweight hiking boots instead of sneakers, and if possible, high-cut ones would be ideal. Additionally, the breakfast, lunch, and snacks prepared by the guide were delicious and reminiscent of an American picnic, quite different from what we are used to in Japan.

However, the time slot I reserved was likely at maximum capacity, and we had to wait quite a bit each time we went to the new zip line. They said it would take about one to one and a half hours, but it ended up taking nearly two hours.

But since we could enjoy the scenery, I think it was still good? There was also an elderly American grandmother who was trying it for the first time, making it a zip line experience that the whole family could enjoy.

In the early morning, there was heavy rain, and I thought we might be riding in the rain, but fortunately, the weather cleared up. We drove down to the valley, but the road was steep and narrow. Arriving there was a bit nerve-wracking, but we made it. We also got to see the waterfall that I wanted to see along the way. The horseback riding tour began, and our two cute dogs joined us as well. We crossed a river along the way, which was very refreshing. However, the horse had to pee, poop, and eat grass at various points. At the end, the guide took some photos for us.

We signed up for the 2.5-hour course for four family members. We gathered at 8:30 and arrived at the meeting point on time, but since the group for the 1.5-hour course, which was scheduled for 9:30, arrived before 9:00, we ended up starting with them and had to wait for nearly an hour after we were ready... During that time, there was no explanation given.

After being taught how to handle the horses, we set off. We all climbed up the highlands together. The weather was nice, and the views were great. We walked briskly several times, and about an hour passed.

As mentioned in other people's posts, we were wondering if we would also be on the 1.5-hour course, but along the way, we were told, "They go Long Course," and we took a different route. The other group descended and went back.

We continued to climb higher into the highlands and experienced a canter for the first time. It was for a short time, but it was an incredible speed and vibration, and I clung on desperately to avoid falling off the horse, making it a valuable experience.

After that, we arrived at a scenic viewpoint. We took photos with Maui Island in the background, with mountains and the sea, before descending. The actual riding time was about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

I think it would be less confusing if the 1.5-hour course was labeled as the "Standard Course" and the 2.5-hour course as the "Long Course." The horseback riding itself was five stars due to the perfect weather and location, but the local staff's response was somewhat lacking, so I give it four stars.

他の人の投稿にもあるように、自分たちも１．５時間コースになるのかなぁと思っていましたが、途中で「They go Long Course」と言われ自分たちは別のルートへ。他のグループは下山し帰っていきました。
更に高原を登って行き、途中で初めての駈歩を体験。少しの時間でしたが、すごい速さと振動に馬から落ちないよう必死にしがみつきましたが貴重な体験となりました。
その後絶景ポイントに到着。マウイ島が見晴らせる場所で山と海をバックに写真撮影をし下山となりました。
正味の乗馬時間は２時間１５分程。
１．５時間コースは「標準コース」２．５時間コースは「ロングコース」とした方が誤解がないのではと思います。
乗馬自体は最高の天気、ロケーションで星５つですが、現地の人の対応がいまいちなので星４つです。

I reserved the 9 AM session, and the confirmation email I received the day before also stated 9 AM. I left early to make sure I would arrive on time, but when I got there on the day, I found out that it had been changed to the 12:30 PM session without my knowledge. I was told that the 9 AM session was fully booked, so I had no choice but to kill time. The staff members were all very pleasant and apologized, but it seems best to directly confirm again before the day.

I had been interested in the sunset at the summit of Mauna Kea, which I had seen on TV for a long time! Additionally, we got to do some stargazing, making it the best day ever! We participated as a couple on our honeymoon.

Initially, I was planning to sign up for a tour with a Japanese guide, but it was already fully booked, so I signed up for this tour instead. I was a bit worried since I don't speak much English, but despite the tour being almost 100% in English, thanks to the tour guide's consideration and a Japanese family who happened to join us, I was able to enjoy it very much!

I also observed other tours with Japanese guides and felt that the content and quality of this tour, along with the consideration for customers and the very free-flowing nature of the proceedings, made me truly glad that I participated in this tour.

The hot chocolate and brownies during stargazing were unforgettable. It was truly the best tour! Thank you very much!

We advance through the canyon in formation. At first, I was nervous, but once we started walking, I could freely control my horse with the reins and my legs. Sometimes, the horse would eat grass on its own or relieve itself, which was amusing! Wild horses were also out for a stroll! It's all in English, but I managed just fine! I want to go again!

渓谷をみんなで隊列組んで、進みます。最初は緊張していましたが、歩き出せば手綱の引き方、お腹の蹴り方、などで愛馬を自由にコントロールできます。時々、勝手に馬が草を食べたり、うんこ、おしっこしたり、面白い！野性の馬も散歩したり！

This trip was the highlight of our trip to the Big Island. We had a great time and enjoyed the experience immensely. I was a little disappointed when they called me that morning and told us the road to the summit was closed and we might not be able to go to the top. Since we were on a limited time schedule we decided to go anyway. Nate was our guide and picked us up in Kona. On the ride to Mauna Kea, he explained about the different kinds of lava flows and some of the myths about Pele. When we got to the sheep station, Nate set up our meal for us and explained about life as a sheep rancher on the island. He promised that if we didn't get to go to the summit, he would make sure we at least saw the sunset from another spot. Supper was very good and it was fun getting to know the other tourists with us. After we ate, we got the good news that the road had opened and we were able to go to the top. What a gorgeous sight!! We saw the sun set on one side and turned around and saw the full moon coming up on the other. After watching the sunset, we went back down to visitor center and did some stargazing. Nate was very knowledgeable about the constellations. We were able to see the rings around Saturn and other constellations that night. The hot chocolate and warm brownies tasted good after being up on the summit where it was pretty chilly! I would definitely recommend this adventure for anyone visiting the Big Island, If we are fortunate enough to return, we will be doing this again!! Thank you Nate for a great evening.

I absolutely loved this tour! It was perfect! Each guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The van was clean, cool and they drove safely. All the food, drinks and snacks were very tasty and fresh. We got to see, do and learn so much and it was never grueling or boring. Each stop was so exciting and breathtaking. Taking this tour sheds 2 miles each way of walking out to the lava flow which is a huge bonus. Seeing the lava hitting the sea is amazing! Bringing binoculars will help you see it better. I have no suggestions for making this tour better because I truly think it's perfect the way it is and you will walk away very happy and satisfied. Thank you for a great 40th Birthday!
**Wanted to share with you guys that I did the Chain of Craters drive down to the Holei Sea Arch and on my way back up I saw 2 Nene's!! I was so excited! (pic below)**

I participated with friends in November. I was looking for a tour with transportation included, but I was told that the transportation companies were fully booked, so I decided to take the plunge and join this tour without transportation, renting a car for the first time abroad. It was a good decision in terms of cost performance.

This was my second time riding a horse, but that didn't matter; we set off after a brief introduction. The height was quite significant, but we walked slowly through the woods, so it wasn't scary. We also splashed through the water, which added some variety and made it fun.

My horse was a bit of a glutton and stopped to eat grass along the way, but it was all very relaxed. The dogs that walked alongside us were also very cute.

Oh, Japanese is not spoken here. They knew a few words and occasionally said something, but it wasn't a problem for horseback riding.

送迎付のツアーを探していたのですが、送迎会社がいっぱいだと言われ、思い切って海外初レンタカーで、送迎なしのこのツアーに参加しました。コストパフォーマンスとしても正解でした。
馬に乗るのは2回目でしたが、そんなことおかまいなしに、ちょっとのレクで出発します。結構高さがありますが、木立をゆっくり歩いていくのでこわくはなく、でも水の中をじゃぶじゃぶ入ったりして、変化もあって楽しかったです。
私の馬は食いしん坊で、道中草を食べて動かなくなったりしましたが、それものんびりと。一緒に散歩する犬たちもとてもかわいかったです。
あ、日本語は通じません。少し単語を知っていて時々何か言ってましたが。乗馬には問題ないですよ。

Compared to other tours, the waiting time before starting was long, and the time spent riding the horse was short. We followed almost the same course, but other tours were already turning back and passing us. We were on the horse for about 40 to 50 minutes. I expected it to be 1.5 to 2 hours. The route felt more like the horse was just walking along a car track rather than going through the great outdoors. The guide spoke in English, but since there was a long line of horses, only those near the speaker could hear. I would recommend a tour that allows you to walk down into the canyon instead. Alternatively, if you're looking for a similar tour, I would recommend the Na'alapa tour.

ほかのツアーと比べて開始までの時間が長く馬に乗る時間が短い。ほぼ同じコースを通るのですが他のツアーは、すでに折り返しで我々とすれ違う状況。馬に乗っていたのは４０～５０分くらいでしょうか。1.5～２時間と思っていましたが。ルートも大自然の中を行くというより車のわだちを馬が勝手に歩くという感じです。案内も英語さらに長い馬の隊列なので話す人の近くの人しか聞こえません。私は、渓谷に下りて足で歩く時間をとるツアーのほうをお勧めします。または、同じようなツアーならばナアラパのツアーをお勧めします。

I, who can hardly speak English, participated with my 67-year-old mother, who doesn't understand any English, and my 9-year-old son, along with five other beginners in horseback riding. They showed us a demonstration and explained key points in Japanese. My 9-year-old son was guided by the staff, and we slowly rode through the valley. There were eight participants and two guides, which gave us a sense of privacy, allowing us to enjoy ourselves without any hesitation. Next time, I would like to try riding on the mountain side. Everyone was satisfied. Thank you for providing us with a wonderful experience.

英語が殆ど出来ない私が、全く英語が分からない67才の母と9才の息子を筆頭に乗馬初心者5人を引き連れ参加しました(^o^)
実際に見本を見せてくれ、要所は日本語で説明もあり、9才の息子はガイドさんが手綱を引っ張り、渓谷の中をゆっくり回りました。参加者8名でガイドさんが2名、プライベート感もあり、気兼ねすること無く十分楽しめました。次回は、山側を回ってみたいです(^-^)皆、満足しておりました。素晴らしい体験をさせて頂きありがとうございました。

The ride was beautiful, the horses were teamed up with the appropriate writers. The ladies were very informative about the island, culture, the ranch. My granddaughter and I would totally do this again We loved it!
