Since we didn't have a rental car, we participated in this tour with transportation included. It took about 45 minutes to get from our hotel to the meeting point, and we were dropped off just before the port, so we needed to walk to the Body Glove boat. The crew was at the reception, and you can check in by saying your name. As mentioned in other posts, the crew does not understand Japanese at all. I also speak very little English, but they provide a Japanese sheet with important information and emergency signals, so it's okay if you don't understand the English explanations. Since I have poor eyesight, they lent me prescription snorkeling goggles. I didn't understand everything in English, but since I participated in January, it was whale watching season, not dolphin watching. It was a great deal because you could snorkel and see whales. Although the sea was calm, it was still open ocean, so those prone to seasickness should take precautions. They do provide emergency assistance, but I think you need to be capable of managing your own snorkeling. Regarding transportation, the pickup was over an hour after the cruise ended, so I think it's fine to explore the nearby shops. I believe this is an activity that offers a unique experience that can only be enjoyed on the Big Island.

We participated as a family of four. I was shown a file with Japanese explanation materials for circulation, but it was quickly taken back for "safety reasons," so I could hardly read it. The entire explanation was in English and delivered very quickly, so I couldn't understand anything and just clung to the boat.
It was exciting when the dolphins came close or when we approached the lava cliffs, but other than that, it was boring. I found myself battling sleepiness while clinging to the boat.
For beginners, snorkeling might be fun. I had high expectations because there were many good reviews, but is this really worth the price? The cost performance leaves much to be desired.

The boat was going at an incredible speed, and I was desperately hanging on! As expected, I had muscle soreness the next day (laughs). But it was really fun!
I got to see the lava cliffs up close, and the impact was overwhelming! I don't think we could have gotten that close with a larger boat.
The diving spot had calm waves, and I was able to enjoy the corals and cute tropical fish. I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I could dive deeper. However, they gave us plenty of time, and I was able to enjoy it to the fullest.
The fruit on the way back was delicious! I was also thrilled to encounter pods of dolphins and whales both going and coming back! It was my first experience seeing the shadow of a dolphin passing under the boat. I had heard about it, but wild dolphins are really friendly. It's an emotion you can't experience with regular sightseeing.
I couldn't understand most of the explanations since I don't speak English, but even with that, it was still fun.

Around 7 AM, I left the Hilton Waikoloa Village and followed the map, arriving almost on time without getting lost.
I was a bit anxious since the instructions were only in English, but I was relieved to receive a Japanese instruction manual as well. Shortly after leaving the harbor, we encountered a pod of dolphins. I was thrilled as it was my first time seeing them. Later, we also encountered a pod of whales, and the sight of a whale spouting water is so vivid in my memory that it remains etched in my mind even after returning home.
While heading to the diving spot, we encountered pods multiple times while viewing the lava cliffs. There were few opportunities for photos, but I managed to capture some great shots of the whales and dolphins. The timing for diving was appropriate. The fish weren't as colorful as I expected, but I enjoyed it enough. The boat ride was thrilling; it was tiring for someone in their 60s like me, but it was fun. Additionally, the lava cliffs that can't be seen from land were impressive.
When boarding the boat, I didn't wear a life jacket, so I think it's safer to always wear one while on board.

The rubber boat was smaller than I expected, but it was surprisingly fast! The seat on the rubber boat was hard (as expected), and I bounced around due to the momentum, desperately clinging to the rope. It was so much fun!! Before we even left the bay, we encountered a pod of dolphins! They came so close, and I could see their shadows passing under the boat!! After that, we met several more pods of dolphins along the way and even saw them jumping*^^* The whales were small enough that I thought they were dolphins, but I was thrilled to see them spouting water and their tails!
At the snorkeling point, the water was incredibly clear, and I saw many fish like the yellow striped ones you see in aquariums, black fish with white spots, and schools of big and small fish. It felt like I was swimming in an aquarium. (In reality, I was just floating!)
The lava cliffs were also breathtaking! It was so much fun!

I was worried about getting seasick since I easily get motion sickness, but I took some medication, so I was fine. I think I would have definitely gotten seasick without it, so I recommend taking motion sickness medication for those who are concerned.
My family went into the sea at the bay where we did snorkeling, but I waited alone on the boat. However, I was able to enjoy just looking at the beautiful sea and sky, as well as the fish swimming near the boat. I was also able to read the guides written in Japanese at that time, so I somewhat understood the points we visited later on.
But I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I understood English. It was disappointing that I couldn't grasp even 10% of what the guide was saying. It would be very helpful if there were tours designed for Japanese people like me, who can't speak any English, that would allow us to enjoy it 120%.
The small boat goes at an incredible speed, getting very close to the lava cliffs, which is quite thrilling. Along the way, we encountered pods of dolphins and small whales multiple times, which was very moving. To see wild dolphins and whales so close is truly amazing; Hawaii is a wonderful place. I really hope they continue to preserve this nature.

We participated in the Powerful Mid-Range with three people.
At the meeting point under the green tent at Kailua Pier, there was a suspicious-looking man. When I showed him the reservation ticket, he shook his head and said "No," which made me anxious. However, he took me to the nearby information desk that wasn't open yet, and the staff there called the tour company to let them know there were three Japanese people. This suspicious-looking man turned out to be nice; he asked if we were wearing swimsuits and if we had applied sunscreen, and when the boat arrived, he even guided us. Thank you, kind man.
Like the other participants, we were the only Japanese people there, but the boat operator, Mr. Duel, was a very friendly nice guy (probably the same person as Atsushi from last time?). He mentioned that he went to Tokyo and Kyoto last month and talked about appearing on TV Asahi's "Q-sama," which eased my nerves. Then, the boat sped off towards the sparkling water. First, we met a baby dolphin and enjoyed its impressive jumps. After that, we started slowly, and the dolphins followed us back and forth! They were so cute! The snorkeling point was also amazing. We saw brightly colored fish, corals, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers. Although they told us "Don't touch," they brought a sea cucumber for us to touch. On the way back, we raced with the dolphins and talked about volcanic layers and King Kamehameha, but... I probably couldn't laugh along with everyone... I understand some may feel anxious about the English guide, but our English is about middle school level. We managed just fine. We are proof of that (sounds familiar, right?). Captain Zodiac has a Japanese website, and I emailed them with several questions. Initially, the meeting point was at Honokohau Marina, but when they realized our hotel was close to Kailua Pier, they changed it for us. Their responses were very quick.
We didn't see any whales, but we had a great time. Good!

Along the way, we had some time to chat while snacking on light refreshments (snacks and fruits). There were about ten people on the boat, and only two of us were Japanese. Although I only understood English at a middle school level, I didn’t feel out of place and had a great time.
I participated after reading the reviews here, so I brought a change of clothes for after snorkeling and a hat for sun protection (a hat clip would be handy to prevent it from blowing away in the wind♪), which made it comfortable!

There were many Americans at the meeting place, and we first received a colored card in exchange for our voucher. We were grouped by color and boarded the boat with others who had the same colored card.
I tend to get motion sickness, so I took some medication, but I hardly felt nauseous at all. We were the only Japanese on the boat, and most of the others were retired American couples.

As we chatted amiably, the boat suddenly sped across the vast ocean at full throttle. It was truly an exciting tour, perfectly described as "rushing through." We stopped at a lava cave, where the captain kindly explained how this coastline was formed.
Seeing the natural beauty of the Big Island from the sea is quite different from viewing it from land and is very interesting. Snorkeling was also fun. The sea was beautifully clear, and colorful tropical fish swam right by us.

It seems several boats were going out, and we received an orange card and waited until we were called by the color orange (about 20 minutes). We took our positions at the front, and about 16 of us boarded the rubber boat and set off. At first, we went slowly, but then we headed out to sea and picked up speed. The water at the snorkeling point was a beautiful color, like deep blue ink, and the visibility was excellent. We could see the fish very well. The pineapple we had after snorkeling was incredibly delicious.
The boat's speed was exhilarating, and we were able to see the hotel we were staying at from the water, making for some wonderful memories. However, I ended up getting sunburned even on my parting line, so I recommend that participants take proper sun protection measures.
Also, at the snorkeling point, the boat moves while you're snorkeling, so it's important to remember the captain and crew; otherwise, you might not know which boat to return to.

The "Ocean Rafting & Snorkeling Cruise" was more memorable for the ocean rafting experience. The captain and the crew were truly enthusiastic about helping us enjoy the sea and waves of Hawaii Island! They explained everything diligently at each point and timed the moments to show us the waves crashing against the rocks, creating huge splashes.
While we were speeding along, I was thrilled by the unexpected excitement, and I thoroughly enjoyed the majestic nature around us. The view of Hawaii Island from the sea offers a different kind of awe. As a side note, one of the crew members was so handsome that it felt like a little bonus.
Of course, snorkeling was also enjoyable. We were able to see many fish in the clear waters.
Refreshing! I highly recommend it!

We boarded from Kailua Pier. We were the only two Japanese people. The guide's English was too fast for me to understand well, but I managed to get by with the atmosphere.
The boat ride from Kailua Pier to Keauhou was amazing! It was so thrilling!! The waves crashing into the caves were also exciting!
Of course, at the snorkeling point, we were able to see a lot of fish.
It's a shame we didn't get to see any dolphins, but it was a tour where we thoroughly enjoyed the sea, waves, and fish of Hawaii.

We set off on a boat from Kailua Pier! Aside from us, everyone else was from North America. The two guides provided commentary with a lot of humor throughout the trip. Since there were many older participants, the driving seemed a bit subdued. Still, we had a great time.
We snorkeled and took a snack break at Kealakekua for about an hour. After that, we slowly explored while listening to explanations about lava caves. We spent quite a while searching for dolphins offshore, but unfortunately, we didn't encounter any this time.
Above all, the explanations in English were delivered quickly, and with my limited English skills, it was quite challenging. Even my husband, who is somewhat confident in everyday conversation, seemed to struggle with how fast it was. Later, I checked and was shocked to find out that we could have received a Japanese guidebook in advance! I think we would have enjoyed it much more if we understood the explanations better. Next time, I’ll study more English before going!
That said, I was glad to have an interesting time since I had only enjoyed the Big Island from land and air before.

We enjoyed an exciting speedboat ride while listening to explanations about various places on the island (along the way, we even encountered wild dolphins swimming so close we could almost touch them!). We snorkeled for 30 minutes at a coral reef, had some snacks, and on the way back, we learned about the lava-formed landscapes while enjoying the thrilling speedboat ride.
The tour was in English, but out of 10 participants, 6 were Japanese, including us. If you don't understand English, you might miss out on the explanations about the landscapes and Hawaiian customs and history, but I think you can still fully enjoy riding the exhilarating boat and snorkeling. The English was relatively simple and easy to understand. There is also a Japanese pamphlet with basic information about the tour.
By the way, you will get sunburned intensely, so it might be a good idea to reapply sunscreen even after snorkeling. (Despite applying a strong waterproof sunscreen all over, I still ended up with tan lines on my thighs from sitting on the edge of the boat.) A T-shirt is essential to wear during snorkeling and while the boat is speeding along. Since you’ll be speeding and feeling the wind after snorkeling, it might be wise for those who get cold easily to bring a dry T-shirt (a second one) as well.
Overall, it was an incredibly enjoyable, beautiful, and amazing few hours. I really felt like I was in Hawaii!

I was really impressed to see a pod of dolphins swimming alongside the boat! Even without a trainer, they jumped and spun around, showcasing their tricks multiple times, creating unforgettable memories! I also encountered sea turtles and marlins.
At the snorkeling spot, there were not only tropical fish but also eels, which was a lot of fun.
We also visited caves shaped by the waves and enjoyed the natural art.
I think it would have been even more enjoyable if I could understand English to communicate with various people. For those who have plans ahead, definitely study English (laughs)!!

I participated in the afternoon tour. I was a bit anxious because I'm not good at English, but I enjoyed it. They provide a guidebook in Japanese before the tour, which is reassuring. Of course, during the tour, everything is in English, so I could only understand parts of the explanations about the lava caves. But I got to see dolphins, and Kealakekua Bay is beautiful. I think it's definitely enjoyable.
The biggest challenge for me regarding the tour was the need to confirm the reservation with the tour company by the day before. The morning tour was canceled, and the tour company contacted the hotel. Since I was assisted by someone at the Japanese desk, it was smooth to negotiate a change to the afternoon tour. However, if I had to handle it myself, it might have been tough.

It was a much more active tour than I had expected. Among the 14 participants, only the two of us were Japanese, while the others were from English-speaking countries. The guide spoke in English, which was difficult to understand, but we managed to get by with gestures and the overall atmosphere.
By the way, they do provide a Japanese script in advance, but it’s hard to read while on the boat. We had the rare experience of being surrounded by a mother turtle and her baby, and encountering a pod of dolphins.
The snorkeling was at a famous spot on the Big Island, with high visibility, and we were able to see many tropical fish. Since it was a tour on a really large boat, be careful of sunburn! I got quite tanned. I think it’s a tour that can be enjoyed even if you don’t speak English.

This time, we departed in the morning from Kailua Pier. Since there were many participants, we split into groups of about 15 people, totaling around five groups.
We sped across the water to Keauhou on the boat. Hats flew off, so it was impossible to wear one, and the speed made it feel like we might be thrown into the sea if we didn't hold onto the boat's railing. Occasionally, we stopped for explanations in English about Hawaii, the ocean, and the mountain scenery.
We snorkeled at the monument where Captain Cook arrived. There were many fish in the water. The boat had a fish book, so after snorkeling, we could look up what fish we had seen.
On the boat, we could snack on fruits like pineapple and have drinks to satisfy our hunger a bit. Then, on the way back, we observed lava caves, but the caves weren't very deep, so it didn't feel like we were entering them. Still, the captain explained various things (in English), including the lava that represents the sleeping form of the fire goddess Pele and how the lava was formed.
It was very lucky to see dolphins and turtles swimming nearby in the ocean, and everyone was excited about it. It was a thrilling and exciting tour that we really enjoyed.

I participated with friends. The boat moves at an unimaginable speed!! At first, I was surprised and held on tightly, but as I got used to it, I found I didn't need to hold on so tightly to enjoy the ride. The captain drives in a way that ensures safety while also making it fun. Fortunately, we encountered a pod of dolphins. It was thrilling to ride alongside them. This was my first time snorkeling, but they properly taught me how to use the equipment, and I was able to see beautiful fish.
It's an experience that you can't easily have in Japan, and I highly recommend this fulfilling activity!! Even if you don't understand English, you can participate safely, but since the captain explains various things, understanding would definitely enhance the enjoyment.

My husband and I participated together. Two years ago, we joined the Fair Wind morning cruise, but this Captain Zodiac Ocean Rafting & Snorkeling Cruise was similar in that it took us to Keauhou Bay for snorkeling and a meal before returning to the harbor. However, this experience was much more exciting and had a sporty vibe, which made it really fun.
I think that those who are physically fit and can keep up with the American-style atmosphere will enjoy the Captain Zodiac Ocean Rafting & Snorkeling Cruise more. On the day we participated, everyone else was American, and we were all very excited about the sightings of sea turtles, dolphins, and sharks. The boat is driven at quite a speed. We had a great time, but those who are not comfortable with speed or are prone to seasickness should be cautious. However, it is highly recommended for those who enjoy thrilling activities. Additionally, it seems they provide a written explanation in Japanese for Japanese participants.

We participated as a couple, and there were two American couples as fellow passengers, making a total of six people on the afternoon tour. The explanations were in English (of course?), so there were some points I didn't fully understand, but seeing dolphins up close during the rafting, the unique formations and strange rocks created by lava, and the Captain Cook monument were experiences that you can only have from the sea, which were quite remarkable.
For snorkeling, we brought our own snorkels and had some experience, but there were no explanations or precautions provided, so it might be a bit concerning for beginners.
For future improvements, it would be good to switch the seating positions on the rafting boat for the outbound and return trips. Sitting on the left side the whole time can lead to back pain. Also, make sure the ropes are secured tightly. For those who are prone to seasickness, I recommend bringing motion sickness medication.
