My second-grade daughter participated and was very happy, but there was an explanation in English until we could interact with the dolphins. It felt more like a discussion than an explanation. Also, the pool where we could interact with the dolphins seemed a bit deep, which was a bit tough for my short daughter.

The tour operator only communicated in English, which made it difficult for me during the confirmation call. On the day of the tour, we departed from the pier in Kona, which was convenient since it was close to where I was staying. The glass-bottom boat was quite stable and comfortable, but there wasn't much variation in the fish or underwater scenery, so I honestly got a bit bored along the way. The staff were friendly and engaged in conversation, which was nice.

I participated with my husband and our first-grade daughter, making it a family of three. We stayed at the Marriott Hotel in Waikoloa and arrived in just under 40 minutes. We were told to look for the blue roof of the Honokohau Marina, and as soon as we entered the marina, we found several shops with blue roofs lined up on the right side. The tour shop was easily identifiable with the sign that read "CAPTAIN ZODIAC" (it was the shop at the far right).
When we joined, there were six of us in total: our family of three and three American girls. With Captain Colin and his assistant Paul, we set off with a total of eight people! First, we sped across the surface of the sea. The waves were relatively calm, so I didn’t experience the seasickness I was worried about; instead, it felt refreshing with the wind in my face!
After about five minutes of racing across the water, the boat suddenly slowed down. Captain Colin was looking around, and just as I was wondering what was happening, he shouted, "Dolphins!" When I looked in the direction he was pointing, I saw several dorsal fins surfacing and diving. There were dolphins jumping like in an aquarium, and even a baby dolphin! My daughter was so excited, shouting, "Dolphin! Dolphin!"
At that point, the captain stopped the boat and began preparing the snorkeling gear. My daughter was quite nervous since it was her first time snorkeling and going out to deep water on a boat. Honestly, I thought, "Snorkeling in such deep water?! No way!" But it seemed her curiosity about the wild dolphins won out. She put on her new snorkeling set (which we brought, although they provide rentals) and borrowed a long foam noodle from the captain to use as a float.
Then, with her dad holding her hand, she peered into the water and saw a school of dolphins swimming right below us. Overjoyed, she squealed, "Yay! Dolphins!" and pointed excitedly. I was also amazed; I never expected to see so many dolphins up close.
We then changed locations and enjoyed a total of three dolphin swims.
After that, we had about 30 minutes of free snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay. My daughter was scared of the urchins and almost returned to the boat, but when Captain Colin threw some cookies into the water, the fish came close, and she was thrilled. Thanks to that, she was able to continue snorkeling.
I was worried that my daughter might end up scared and not able to do anything during the tour, but thanks to Captain Colin's thoughtfulness and the dolphins and fish, both my daughter and husband had a great time!
I definitely want to participate again the next time we come to the Big Island.
P.S.
1. For those who will be participating, it might be a good idea to hand the captain your camera and ask him to take pictures while snorkeling.
2. I recommend reapplying sunscreen during the trip. Even though I thought I had applied a lot, I ended up getting really sunburned (crying).

We zoomed along in Captain Colin's rubber boat and first headed to the dolphin swimming spot. The ride was thrilling, with sharp turns that felt like a roller coaster, and we had a blast screaming with excitement.
Once we arrived, after a brief explanation, we jumped into the sea! There were over 100 dolphins swimming around. My first-grade daughter, who initially said, "I'm scared!" was soon cheering as she snorkeled among the dolphins.
This was my daughter's first snorkeling experience during our trip to Hawaii. She had only practiced snorkeling on the beach the day before, so I was worried. However, the dynamic sight of dolphins swimming right beneath her made her forget her fear, and she exclaimed, "I want to swim again!" In the end, she enjoyed dolphin swimming three times.
While it wasn't like the experiences at some hotels where you "swim with dolphins while touching them," the experience of swimming with dolphins in their natural habitat was incredibly exciting.
After that, we thrillingly moved to Kealakekua Bay, where we enjoyed a leisurely snorkeling session while observing tropical fish. We saw butterflyfish, angelfish, and parrotfish, and both my wife and daughter had a great time snorkeling.
My daughter seemed a bit scared of the sea urchins, but Captain Colin noticed her unease and joined her for snorkeling. He kindly pointed out fish to her and taught her the names of the fish in Hawaii, which helped her feel more at ease. As her fear faded, she was able to enjoy herself freely.
Unfortunately, we didn't spot any whales, but we did see little fish jumping around, likely because the whales were nearby. They said the whales were somewhere beneath the surface within a two-knot range.
On the way back, he shared stories about Pele along the coastline.
He explained everything in a way that was easy to understand, even for someone with my middle school-level English, and he was very kind to the children, which made me feel really reassured.
I truly felt that we had participated in a wonderful tour.

When we participated, there were about 10 participants in total. We all boarded one rubber boat and set off. My husband and I were the only Japanese people there, so all the communication and small talk were in English.
When I heard "rafting," I had imagined something like river rafting using a raft, but it seems I was mistaken. In reality, we sat on the edge of the boat (without wearing life jackets) and raced across the ocean at high speed. As someone who is not good with thrill rides, I was screaming my head off... Seeing me, the other foreigners burst into laughter.
It looked refreshing and enjoyable to race through the blue sea. Everyone except me... Following the advice to "just look at the sky and the distant scenery," I did gaze around, and while it was indeed beautiful, my fear overwhelmed all other emotions, and I reached my limit within 30 minutes.
When I told the captain, "I can't do this anymore," he asked, "There are still about 4 hours left!? Can you hang in there?" I couldn't bear the thought of enduring this fear for another 4 hours, so I asked to be dropped off nearby and retired... My time on the boat was just 40 minutes. I wanted to try snorkeling too, but I thought it would be rude to push myself and make my fellow passengers uncomfortable, so I gave up. My husband, who was enjoying himself, also got off with me, so I felt really sorry for him. The captain was very kind and arranged a taxi for us to the shore. All the fellow passengers were warm and kind, even though we stopped off early.
Although I retired, I got to see many wild dolphins up close, and the view of the Big Island while racing across the ocean was truly wonderful. It also became a story for our honeymoon.
If you're looking for thrills and want to enjoy the ocean around the Big Island, I definitely recommend it. However, for those who are not good with thrill rides or are easily scared, it might be a bit too intense.

I participated in the Captain Zodiac rafting cruise, and as we started cruising on the rafting boat, we first encountered a large pod of dolphins! Despite it being summer, we were also able to see whales. The luckiest moment was when I saw a manta ray swimming right beneath the rafting boat, which is usually only seen while diving. This is rare, and I was truly lucky, but if you're fortunate, you might get to see a manta ray too.
The snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay, where the main Captain Cook monument is located, allowed us to see beautiful coral on the lava cliffs and many different types of fish. The point was stunning with its high transparency and beautiful emerald green waters! After snorkeling, sandwiches, snacks, and juice were prepared for us, and we enjoyed lunch while looking out at Kealakekua Bay.
Above all, the highlight of this tour was the captain's exciting performance. As he explained the nature of the Big Island while navigating the sea, he was very cheerful, making us feel like we were part of a pirate crew. On the way back, we enjoyed the sight of deer standing on the cliffs, wild birds, and the rock known as the goddess Pele of the Big Island, keeping the fun going until the very end. It was an exhilarating tour that condensed the great nature of the Big Island, and I would love to participate again!

On the day we arrived on the Big Island, I was anxious about whether we would make it in time since we had a reservation, but I was relieved to see that there was still a line even at the start time. The show, which began with the ocean and sunset as a backdrop, was filled with a natural atmosphere where everyone, including the guests, seemed to be enjoying themselves. The hula dance was, of course, impressive, and the fire show was breathtaking. I was also a bit concerned about the restrooms, but the toilets on the first floor of the hotel were comfortable to use. I thought it could be a bit cheaper, possibly due to the weak yen, but overall, I was satisfied.

We sped across the ocean for about 30 minutes in a rubber boat that holds around 14 people. I could see the speedometer, and it seemed we were going about 40 mph, which felt similar to driving on the road.
We were able to snorkel at Keauhou and Kealakekua. Both locations had beautiful coral reefs and high water clarity. At Keauhou, we were able to see sea turtles swimming leisurely, making it a very satisfying tour.
However, it seemed that the reception and guides had no knowledge of Japanese, and since we are not very proficient in English, we could hardly understand the guide's explanations. That said, they did communicate the essential information (like safety tips for snorkeling) using simple words that we could understand, which was reassuring.

I participated on June 15th. The weather was a mix of cloudy and sunny, which was just perfect for heading out to sea.
From the meeting point at the marina, we boarded a 16-person inflatable boat (although once the engine started, it felt more like a large motorboat zooming along). The captain and a female assistant explained the safety instructions (all in English). Japanese participants were given a written guide in Japanese beforehand, but once you're out at sea, you won't have the luxury of reading it, so I recommend checking in a bit early to read it over.
The captain explained things with gestures, saying things like "put your feet here" and "hold on to this," so you don't need to worry too much if your English isn't great. The crew was very friendly.
As we departed the marina and picked up speed, the boat bounced over the waves, sending up sprays of white water—truly exhilarating! It felt just like being on a theme park ride.
Along the way, we stopped near a hotel where mantas could be seen, and got close to the lava cliffs, where they explained how these cave-like holes formed along the coast. I've participated in several snorkeling tours like this before, but this time on the ZoaTic, the small, agile boat allowed us to get close to the cliffs and see the stunning scenery up close, which was fantastic.
I had thought we would enter the caves, so I was a bit disappointed that we only viewed them from the outside. I wish we could have gone a little further inside.
After that, we went to Kealakekua Bay, where we anchored the boat for some free snorkeling time. I was hoping the dolphins would swim by, but unfortunately, they didn't come close.
Underwater, there were colorful fish and turtles swimming around, making it very mystical and beautiful. Hawaii Island has many power spots, and the ocean is truly healing as well.
Since it was a small group, I felt reassured that the crew was keeping an eye on us, and they provided all the necessary equipment, so you can go with just yourself. In fact, since the boat is small, it might be better not to bring large bags (it's best to leave unnecessary items in the car).
I brought a quick-dry towel and an underwater camera. When entering the water, I wore a long-sleeve rash guard and gloves. Even after getting out, while enjoying sandwiches, fruit, and water, my rash guard dried off.
Even with a hat and all that protection, being out on the sea for nearly five hours can lead to quite a sunburn.
As we were getting ready to head back, some cute dolphins appeared and jumped around. Although I couldn't swim with them, I had a wonderful time.
The return boat ride was thrilling and fast. I would love to participate again if I go back to Hawaii Island. Next time, I definitely want to swim with the dolphins!

I boarded the "Hawaii Island Ocean Rafting & Kealakekua Bay Snorkel" adventure on the Captain Zodiac. It was truly fun. Before boarding, I was worried, thinking, "What if I get seasick?" and "I'm not confident in my swimming, but can I really snorkel?" However, all those anxieties were blown away by the exhilarating fun.
After a brief explanation from the captain, we set off immediately. I thought it was unbelievable not to wear life jackets, which is unthinkable in Japan! But I realized that it was indeed safer to hold onto the handrails and ropes rather than awkwardly wearing a life jacket and relying on it.
As the boat started moving, it bounced vigorously, but the wind felt pleasant, making it feel like I was on a roller coaster. Along the way, we encountered dolphins and admired the lava cliffs as we headed to the snorkeling point. For those who are not confident swimmers, life jackets were provided, and for those who can swim a bit better, there were inflatable tubes and boogie boards available for rent. Once we put on our goggles and snorkels, we were ready to hit the sea.
Unfortunately, I couldn't swim with the dolphins, but I was able to see them from the boat. After getting back on board, we were treated to fruits, sandwiches, cookies, and potato chips, and the sweet fruits were incredibly delicious after swimming.
If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to receive a translated version of the captain's explanation before boarding. Since we left right away, I didn't have time to read it. If I had received it when I signed up, I would have read it thoroughly.
Things to bring:
1. Rash guard or windbreaker (especially after getting out of the water, it gets cold on the way back)
2. Sunglasses
3. Sunscreen
4. Waterproof case for your smartphone (the type that hangs around your neck is recommended)
Lastly, there was one mystery... The straps of the hats worn by passengers were quickly blown away, and everyone soon gave up on wearing hats, but the captain's hat (not a cap, but a hat type) seemed to stick to his head and was not blown away at all. It was very strange...
If I have the opportunity to go to Hawaii Island again, I would definitely like to participate in this tour.

I've been to the Big Island several times and always stay at the Kinkame Hotel, so I decided to participate this time... First, after checking in, we lined up at the gathering place for the luau. The gathering was at 4:30, but by 4:00, there were already about six people in line. Right after we lined up, many more started to join, and by the gathering time, there was a long queue. At that time, they asked if we wanted to pay an extra $20; if you said "NO," you stayed as you were. If you said "YES," you were directed to the upgrade line. After that, they started to offer various add-ons, like buying leis. Then, during the photo session, they would come around to sell you photos at your seats later on, which was also about $20. After the photos, we walked over to the luau area. The seats in front of the stage were occupied by those who had paid the extra fee (about ten rows of 18 people each), and we were directed to the rows behind them (the back rows had about 20 blocks of 18 people). However, even those who paid extra but arrived late were only one seat away from ours, so it didn't seem to matter much. We were seated before 5:00, but there was still about two hours until the luau show started; those who paid extra went first to get their food, and after about 200 people finished at the buffet, there was a specific order to follow, so by the time we went to get our food... After a long wait, the show finally started, but there were only about six dancers, so after each song, we had to listen to the host's singing and talking for a while (15 to 20 minutes of changing costumes). There was also a mysterious dance time to the songs... Foreigners might find it fun, but... Anyway, the show dragged on with long intervals, and the food was mediocre; spending $91 on this was truly a waste. By the way, we reached our limit and left midway. I won't be going again.
Dear Mr. Ishikawa,
Thank you very much for visiting Island Breeze Luau. However, I am truly sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your experience. I sincerely apologize for any discomfort we may have caused you.
Your straightforward feedback has highlighted many challenges for us, and we feel it is very important.
We will work hard to ensure that more people from Japan can enjoy our offerings. Thank you for your valuable comments.

I enjoyed it just like last time. When we were riding the horses, a foreign child started crying, which delayed our departure, so the riding time was shorter compared to last time, and the course was also shorter, which was disappointing. I recommended it to my son and his wife, and they were satisfied and enjoyed it. It's one of the activities I want to participate in again next time.

On the fourth day of our stay on the Big Island, we participated in a tour. I was hesitant about the speedboat and the English tour, but I enjoyed it thoroughly.
In our tour, my wife and I were the only Japanese participants; the others were travelers from the mainland United States. The Americans were cheerful, and there was a lot of excitement among the staff and the guests, as well as among the guests themselves. My wife and I are not good at English, so we felt a bit out of place, but we were prepared for that, so it didn't bother us too much.
On the way to the bay, we were able to see not only dolphins but also a false killer whale (I couldn't understand the English name, so I looked it up after returning to Japan, and I think that's what it was), which was nice to see. The snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay was enjoyable because the terrain is better than at Kahalu'u Beach Park or Hanauma Bay on Oahu. There are some deep areas in the ocean, so my wife said she was scared in places where she couldn't touch the bottom, but they lent us a flotation device, so she was able to snorkel with peace of mind.
The view of the Big Island from the sea was also wonderful, and I believe this tour is worth participating in.
