Mauna Kea Summit Sunset & Stargazing Tour with Dinner - Hawaii Forest & Trail

Simply Amazing!

Reviewed by: Mr. Anonymous

Having grown up in Hawaii, I have grown very fond of Mauna Kea and it is definitely my favorite place to be. This trip, though pricey, is well worth the expense. When will you ever see both the North Star and Southern Cross in one place? And when will you ever feel like you can just reach out and touch the stars. The staff is very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions and concerns. This is by far the best tour I have ever taken on the Hawaiian islands. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique adventure or anyone interested in the stars!

Enjoy the natural beauty of the ocean on the Big Island of Hawaii!

Reviewed by: DEXTE-K

Since it was a trip using a rental car, I had no trouble with transportation or exploring places. However, the meeting point at Keauhou Bay is located deep down a road, so it's advisable for first-timers to check a map in advance.

As for the English tour, there was absolutely no need to worry, as everyone pointed out. All the staff were friendly and spoke slowly and clearly, making it easy for me, who isn't very good at English, to understand even the jokes. They prepared the snorkeling gear before we boarded, and then we set sail.

At the designated spots, we were able to swim freely over the coral reefs in two bays suitable for snorkeling. The water clarity was high, probably around 30 meters. I was able to see various tropical fish, including butterfly fish. I had hoped to encounter sea turtles based on prior information, but unfortunately, that dream didn't come true. However, I did have an encounter with a large octopus about a meter long.

For lunch, we enjoyed freshly made big hamburgers and fruits, and I relaxed on the deck while sunbathing. The waves were gentle, so I don't think there was much worry about seasickness. Additionally, there is an option for a diving tour, but even just snorkeling and skin diving were thoroughly enjoyable.

On the return cruise, we were guided past the Captain Cook monument and the coffee belt area of Kona, as well as the nearby Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, allowing us to enjoy a bit of sightseeing of the Big Island from the sea. The English during that time was at a natural speed, and I could only grasp the content vaguely. It might be good to prepare in advance.

Most impressively, we were able to encounter wild dolphins and even saw dolphin jumps. It became a beautiful and joyful memory.

This is a highly recommended tour where you can fully enjoy the nature of the Big Island. However, when the weather is nice, don't forget to take measures against UV rays.

Kona Manta Ray Snorkel & Night Dive Tour at Keauhou Bay - Sea Paradise

an experience of a lifetime!

Reviewed by: ashley

This was an amazing experience to witness. You are probably five minutes off the shore by the sheraton resort and are left to swim with huge manta rays that swim right up next to you. It is a little scary at first but after the first few minutes you get used to it. The staff on the boat are very friendly and pretty humorous. You definitly get your moneys worth on this activity because you are in the water for about 45 minutes and they dont let you get in until a manta ray shows up so your time with the manta rays isnt wasted. The only bad things I have to say about this activity which was kind of a personal problem was that I got stung in the butt my something. It hurt pretty bad but the stinging went away in about a hour. I dont think anyone else had this problem though so I wouldnt be too worried about it. I would definitly sign up for this activity is I was you!

Don't get me wrong, if you have never done this before than I would highly recommend it but if you have already expereienced parasailing than I would spend my money on something else. UFO Parasail Adventure - Best Kona Parasailing Tour

Mom/Observer/Previous Participant

Reviewed by: Linda Miller

We parasailed during our visit to Kona. My 14-year-old twin sons participated while I observed from the boat. The staff was very professional and even joked with one of my sons who was extremely nervous, setting him at ease before his ride. The ride fulfilled their expectations to the fullest - they wanted to go back up immediately! Pictures were offered - I purchased them but haven't had an opportunity to develop them yet as we just returned home. Didn't really care for the sales pitch of t-shirts, visors, etc. at the end of the ride. As the boys were incredibly excited, I didn't want to disappoint them. I was "encouraged" to spend an additional $75 for t-shirts, which of course, I did. Overall, I would repeat the experience if the opportunity represents itself again!

Trip to Top of Mona Kea

Reviewed by: Carolyn S. Nelson

Over many years of taking tours, I have seen many tour guides. However Buck Pelley ranks at the top of the stack. He is incredibly knowledgeable on such topics as geology, astronomy, plant life, and the history of the area. I hope that Buck remains as a tour guide. I would take another tour with him anytime anywhere.

The only thing that I would improve on the tour is the dinner. Although I understand the challenge of bringing food to the top of Mona Kea, the fish could have been hotter with a lot less salt. While the soup was good it was barely warm. Cookies were excellent

Best wishes,

Experience the vastness of the Big Island of Hawaii!

I was picked up from the hotel in Waikoloa, and although I was told that a confirmation couldn't be made, I was able to ride in a helicopter piloted by the only Japanese pilot (Mr. Mochizuki) whom I had requested via email in advance. Mr. Mochizuki provided explanations in both languages to the American couple accompanying us and to us, which made it very enjoyable.

It was my first experience in a helicopter, and there was no vibration, with glass all the way to the floor. I was able to see the lava flowing into the ocean at Kilauea Volcano, and it was amusing to see the cows grazing on the vast Parker Ranch appearing as tiny dots. I was surprised to hear about the elementary school that was affected by a tsunami, located on top of an 800-meter cliff in Waipi'o Valley, and we got very close to a waterfall that has a drop of 1,000 meters, allowing us to fully enjoy the majestic nature.

Waikoloa is a dry area with brown lava land, but as we got closer to Hilo, we experienced sudden rain and saw much greenery, making for a wonderful experience of the vastness and climate differences of the Big Island in a short time! (Driving around takes a whole day, right?) Additionally, on the way back, although we had to wait for a few minutes, we could purchase the video from that day that was on board the helicopter.

A world of silence like outer space.

Both departing and arriving at the ship can be done at a speed that is manageable for children and the elderly, and I believe there is a 100% guarantee that there will be no risk of water landing. While waiting in line, the ship was sailing at a reasonable speed, so I thought I would feel quite a breeze once we ascended, but I only felt a slight breeze when changing direction or when the wire was being reeled in for landing; it was mostly calm. It felt like just floating in space. Moreover, I was truly surprised by the silence. Since I was alone, it was a world completely devoid of sound, including any external noises. It was only a 10-minute experience, but I think it’s nice to try something like that once in a while.

However, I was told that if we lined up on the left side of the coastal path, between around 4:20 and 4:30 PM (the gathering time was at 4:45), we could get good seats. This way, we ended up right behind the Hanohano seats in front of the stage. Upon entry, we received a shell lei for free. Mai Tais and beers were unlimited. After enjoying making fish out of tattoos and palm leaves, we watched the Kalua pig being brought out and the king entering from the sea, followed by our meal time (which included Hawaiian foods like poi and haupia, and we were full). The show featured dances from Hawaii, New Zealand, Tahiti, and a fire dance from Samoa (which the kids loved!).

It was interactive, with hula dancing, shouting greetings from each country loudly, and even doing lomi lomi massages with the person next to you, which was a lot of fun. The meeting point was in a perfect location, just a five-minute walk from the Sheraton Keauhou Bay where we were staying. The catamaran was still new and very beautiful.

There were two of us and one other group of Japanese participants; everyone else was foreign. My husband is experienced with snorkeling, but I had only swum in a pool (where I could stand), so I was a bit scared at first. However, after being given a float, I was able to see many fish and was incredibly impressed! After seeing the lava tunnel, we dropped anchor in front of the Captain Cook monument, which apparently cannot be accessed by car. I was able to snorkel again. When we got out of the water, there was a wonderful smell...

It was the barbecue being cooked by the staff. We also enjoyed some wine, and the hamburgers were huge—probably three times the size of Japanese patties. It was a pleasant voyage with the sea breeze. Neither of us speaks English, but we had no trouble at all and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We would love to participate again.

I am nearsighted, so I usually wear regular snorkeling glasses, but I could hardly see anything. However, this time I was able to borrow glasses specifically for nearsightedness for the first time. Thanks to the captain who helped me find the right pair, my wife and I were able to dive (just floating in the waves) and saw amazing things. There were fish swimming right there! It was so moving!

While seeing the fish was great, the contrast of the catamaran sailing towards the horizon and the quiet navigation to the lava remnants (I didn’t understand the explanations since they were in English...) was wonderful. When the waves were calm, the feeling of racing at full speed across that sea made me feel exhilarated, and I think I forgot all about worldly matters.

Also, while the interaction with nature was nice, the barbecue prepared by the staff on the boat was very delicious. I definitely want to participate again next time!
