The weather was nice, the sea was beautiful, and the staff were very friendly!
I was surprised by the size of the pizza I ordered for lunch!
I couldn't help but laugh. (I finished it all)
In the afternoon, I rented a bicycle and went shopping in Kailua.
It was great to shop without worrying about the kids and dad!
(The staff gave me some advice.)
The kids and dad rented bodyboards and enjoyed riding the waves.
They were happy to see fish and crabs.
It's a beach I want to visit again.

Hanauma Bay Snorkel -- best value for a beginner snorkeler

Take the earliest shuttle (6:00 a.m. from your hotel) to avoid beach crowd and avoid the park fee (if you get there before 7:00 -- no additional park fee!).
Driver was courteous, informative and fun. Equipment was in great condition, and you can expand on what you get (which is basics, but enough) for very little cost.
Had about 2.5 hours of snorkeling fun.

This was my second time participating, following last year. The waves were calm and the sea was very beautiful on the day of the event. Under the guidance of Mr. Dan, I was able to see many fish. I was disappointed that I couldn't meet Bob the moray eel this year, but then Ms. Chieko said, "There are turtles." I was thrilled to see a sea turtle underwater! My husband and son got out partway through, but when they realized there were turtles, Ms. Chieko went all the way to the beach to call out, "There are sea turtles!" Their hospitality and guidance were truly amazing. If I can come again next year, I will definitely ask for them! Thank you very much.

当日は波も穏やかで海もとても綺麗でした。
ダン先生の誘導のもと、たくさんの魚も見れました。
今年はウツボのボブちゃんに会えず残念・・と思っていたところに、チエコ先生から「亀いるよ」と。海中で海ガメ感激でした❗❗
夫と息子は途中で上がってしまったの ですが、亀がいるのが分かると、チエコ先生はわざわざ、浜まであがり「海ガメいるよ」と声をかけに行ってもくれました。
お二人のホスピタリティ溢れるガイドは本当にサイコー⤴⤴です。

West Coast Explorer - Land Tour & Beach Snorkel (from Ko Olina / Waikiki)

Great tour of the picturesque, less touristy west side of Oahu

Bob and Akima picked us up at 7.25 am outside Hawaiian Prince Hotel, then picked up 2 other groups of 3 making 8 of us. We drove out of Waikiki for around 20 mins with interesting commentary about Hawaii from Akima before reaching our first stop - a beautiful picturesque beach where it"s possible to see dolphins. Akima spoke Japanese so stayed with the 6 Japanese people leaving Bob to me and my friend. Bob told us a lot about the area and if you want to know more about surfing then Bob's your man. We then moved on to a small group of shops where we bought items for our picnic lunch later.
We next went to a Kaneana,(Makua cave) a very old sea cave with many legends attached to it. Bob was a great storyteller telling us about the legend of the shapeshifter shark man of Makua cave. Then you can explore the cave a bit if you dare!
Next we stopped at the stunning Makaha valley which again has a great legend associated with it and looks like scenery from Kong Island or Jurassic Park.
We were really lucky driving to our next spot as Bob spotted a rare Monk Seal basking on the rocks.
A couple more lovely spots then time for our lunch at Ku'ilioloa Heiau, and then the snorkelling at Pokai Bay. First Bob checked our swimming ability then gave us mask,snorkel and fins plus a life vest. Bob is very patient and stays with you all the time gently encouraging you to explore the sealife. I'm not confident snorkelling but felt very safe with Akima and Bob. We saw corals, beautiful colourful fish and 2 sea turtles.
It was a really great day which we would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to see a much less touristy authentic side of Oahu, the scenery is just beautiful and excellent snorkelling. Many thanks to Akima and Bob who made our day special.

All the guided snorkeling tours were booked, so we decided to just book the shuttle to Hanauma Bay and do our own snorkeling excursion. It worked out perfectly! The driver arrived at the pick up location on time, was polite and personable, and we didn't have to get up super early to snag a parking spot before the lot filled up. And the snorkeling was great!

I heard that it's one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, so I just had to go. However, I was hesitant about renting a car, and public buses seemed like they would take a long time, so I ended up joining this tour. I highly recommend renting a bike for about $10 extra to enjoy Lanikai Beach and the town of Kailua. It's really refreshing, so I suggest it!

We arrived around 10 AM, so in the morning, we played a bit at Kailua Beach, which is within walking distance, and then rode our bikes to Lanikai Beach. After enjoying both beaches, we returned to Kailua Beach Park and indulged in a late lunch at Bob's Pizzeria. The portion size is quite large, with a quarter of a big pizza, and I recommend the garlic pizza with spinach and pepperoni.

After that, I quickly changed and rode my bike to the town of Kailua until the meeting time. I checked out Lanikai Juice and various shops.

One thing I regret is that there aren't many drinks available along the way, so it might be tough if you don't get some water before the tour meeting.

島の中でもとても綺麗なビーチと聞いて、とにかく行かなきゃ、と、でもレンタカーは億劫だし、公共バスは時間かかりそうだし、、と思いこのツアーに参加しちゃいました。とにかくおすすめは、1人追加で約10ドルするけど自転車借りてラニカイビーチやカイルアの街まで行ってこのあたりを満喫すること。とても気持ちいいのでおすすめです！
10時頃に現地に着くので、午前中は、歩いても行けるカイルアビーチで少し遊び、その後自転車でラニカイビーチへ。どちらもそれなりに満喫したら、カイルアビーチパークに戻りBob's Pizzeria で遅めのランチでピザを堪能。一人前が大きなピザ1/4分とかなり大きいですが、ほうれん草とペパロニのガーリックピザ、オススメです。
その後はざっと着替えて、集合時間までカイルアの街まで自転車で。ラニカイジュースやお店を色々覗いてまわりました。

１つ自分としての反省は、とにかく飲み物が途中であまりないので、ツアーの集合の前に水を調達して持って行ったりしないと、辛いかも、、です。

I was looking forward to it, so I was a bit disappointed. Hanauma Bay was murky, probably due to the high tide, and it wasn't worth the money to pay for it. Compared to Guam and Saipan... it was disappointing. The female instructor... she might need to be that assertive to live in Hawaii, but her condescending tone from start to finish was very unpleasant. I thought it was pointless to get angry halfway through, so I gave up and got used to it. Mr. Dan was surprisingly nice, and I felt he had a good balance. They provided transportation, the equipment was very good, they explained how to use it properly, there was no wasted time, and they took good care of the family who was snorkeling for the first time. We even got to see sea turtles, and they took photos for us. There were more good things than bad, but... I'm done with it.

ハナウマ湾は大潮だったせいか、濁っていてわざわざお金を払って払う程の海ではありませんでした。グアム、サイパンに比べたら……残念でした。女性インストラクターさんは…ハワイで暮らすにはあれぐらい気が強くないとやっていけないのかもしれませんが、最初から最後まで上目線の話し方でとても不愉快でした。途中から腹を立てても仕方がないと考え、諦めたら慣れました。ダン先生は驚くほど良い人で、バランスがとれてるのだと感じました。送迎あり、機材はとても良く、きちんと使い方を説明してくれ、時間に無駄がなく、初めてのシュノーケリングする家族の面倒も良く見て頂けて、ウミガメにも会えて、写真も撮ってくれて、良いことの方が多いのですが……私はもういいです。

We had Bob take us out to the west coast for the day, he was super knowledgeable about the history of Hawaii and provided a great cultural insight Into the lifestyle of the people.

We visited a magnificent cave, and several picturesque locations, followed up with a snorkel that was really appropriate to our skill level (intermediate).

He took plenty of pictures for us, and it was good to know that the tour went ahead regardless of numbers.

Fantastic day, best one of the holiday yet!

On the day of the tour, we had a plan for the afternoon, and it was just my husband and me participating. Our guide was Chieko, a very friendly Japanese woman. She was quite experienced, and she seemed to know everyone at Hanauma Bay. It had been quite a challenge for us since we participated in a snorkeling tour in Saipan 30 years ago, but Chieko efficiently taught us the snorkeling techniques, so we felt comfortable joining in. She also took underwater photos and shared them with us. She guided us expertly to points where many fish were swimming. To our surprise, we even saw a turtle. It was an unforgettable and wonderful memory. I’m really glad we participated. Hanauma Bay is thoroughly protected, so the water is very clear and beautiful, and the fish are impressively large. They grow big because they are protected. We saw mongooses playing on the beach. With the life jackets, we floated safely, and by moving our fins, we could swim forward. All we had to do was breathe through our mouths instead of our noses. My husband and I confidently recommend this tour to everyone.

当日は午後からのプランで、参加者は私達夫婦だけでした。担当はchiekoさん。とっても気さくな、日本の方でした。相当なベテランの方で、ハナウマ湾の係りの方は皆、知り合いでした。私達はなにしろ、サイパンで３０年前にシュノーケルツアーに参加して以来のチャレンジですが、chiekoさんが手際よくシュノーケルの要領を教えてくれたので安心して参加出来ました。水中写真も撮っていただいてアップして下さいました。魚が沢山泳いでいるポイントを要領よく案内していただきました。なんと、亀も見れました。一生忘れられない素晴らしい思い出です。本当に参加して良かったです。ハナウマ湾は自然保護が徹底しているので、水はとっても透き通ってきれいですし、お魚さんのなんと大きいこと。迫力満点です。保護されているので、大きく育つそうです。海岸ではマングースが遊んでいました。ライフジャケットで体は浮いているので、安心ですし、足ヒレを動かせば前に進みます。後は鼻で息をしないで、口で呼吸すればいいだけです。私達夫婦はこのツアーを自信を持って皆さんに推薦します。

I had been wanting to visit West Oahu, but I hesitated because the guidebook mentioned a lot of car break-ins and that the area wasn't very safe. Then I found out about this tour.

In the end, it was a great decision to participate in this tour. I highly recommend it. The group was small, with just two couples including my spouse and me, which was perfect for those who want to enjoy the tour at their own pace.

With Akima as our Japanese guide, we learned about the history of West Oahu, the traces of Tahitians who are said to have landed there, and the sacred cave of KANEANA, which sparked our imagination about Hawaii's history.

For lunch, we enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere at a park by the beach where locals were having barbecues, and we had our lunch in the shade of trees. It felt like we were locals for a moment.

The beach was not crowded, and we could enjoy snorkeling at our leisure while locals jumped into the sea and did stand-up paddleboarding. The water was clear, and while there weren't an overwhelming number of fish, we did see a few, including a honu napping on the seabed.

The couple we toured with mentioned they had participated in various tours, but they were excited and said, "This is the kind of tour we like."

Next time, I would like Akima to guide us around the entire island of Oahu.

ローカルの人が海に飛び込んだり、スタンドアップパドルをしたり思い思いに楽しんでいるビーチは混雑もなく、シュノーケリングをゆったり楽しめました。海は透明度が高く、魚はあふれるほどいる、というほどではありませんが、フヌフヌプクプクアプアアや海底で昼寝をしているホヌもみれました。
ツアーにご一緒したご夫婦もいろんなツアーに参加されていらっしゃるとのことでしたが、「こういうツアーがいい」と興奮しておられました。
今度は、アキマさんにオアフ島一周を案内してもらいたいと思っています。

So Many Fish!!!

I want to start this review by saying that Kieko (our guide) picked us up at our hotel and I was not in the right pick up area. She was actually walking around calling out my name and found me. I cannot thank her enough!!!

The tour was about a half day long - we went in the morning, which I would recommend because it can get crowded at Hanauma as the day goes on.

We were able to lock up our valuables while we were in the water. The tram ride down and back up to the parking lot was awesome

As for the snorkelling - it was AMAZING. I cannot believe how many different species of marine life we saw. So much fun. I did not want to get out of the water!

I participated with my 6-year-old son and husband the other day. Since it was our first time snorkeling, I had about half expectations, but we were well taken care of, and my son was able to see many fish that he loves, which made us very satisfied! I considered going to Hanauma Bay on our own, but given that my younger child is still small and the concerns about being at the beach for a long time and the parking lot filling up quickly, we decided to join this tour. Thank you very much. I would definitely like to participate again.

I was looking forward to this, so I was shocked by the way the Japanese female instructor spoke from a condescending perspective. When someone else, who is also Japanese, asked a question, she would interrupt and talk about herself instead. If she had already conducted this tour in the morning, I think there could have been a better way to reassure the customers with her answers. goproで撮影してくれると言っていましたが、壊れたか何かで使えないと何の説明もなく、
そのままでした。
送迎時には車から降りず運転席に座ったまま　ありがとうございました　でした。
友達と勘違いなさってますね。。
お金を払って短いハワイ旅行の中でこのツアーを選んだことに後悔しかありません。
人それぞれ感じ方はあると思いますが私は不愉快に感じました。

In conclusion, it was incredibly fun!!!!!!!

This was my first solo trip abroad. I was looking for an optional tour to go snorkeling and discovered this tour. It was my second time in Hawaii, and I had seen quite a few sites mentioning that the west side could be dangerous, so I hadn’t researched it for my first visit. But when I found out there was a tour that would take us to the west side, I quickly made a reservation. Of course, since I was participating alone, I had some anxiety, but the moment I met our guide Akima, all my worries disappeared.

This time, there was a Japanese couple, and in addition to them, there were also some international participants (I couldn't identify their countries...), so perhaps that’s why two guides, Akima and a man named Bob, were with us. I regretted not studying English properly, as I could have talked with Bob and the others if I could speak it.

Akima explained various things in an interesting and easy-to-understand manner, including legends and the origins of power spots, as well as Hawaii's history, the mindset of the Hawaiian people, their way of life, and current situations, sometimes in a quiz format. This made the time spent in the car and during sightseeing enjoyable. In fact, I wanted to ask even more questions.

Regarding snorkeling, it was disappointing that I didn’t get to see a turtle (only Bob found one, but it was deeper in the water, so we couldn’t see it from the surface, haha). However, I had fun touching a sea urchin and having it placed on my head (of course, Akima gently returned it to the sea), and I got to see fish that can only be found in Hawaii. I thought I’d like to be able to do some free diving, even if it’s not full-on.

Oh, I learned that while the west side wasn’t safe over ten years ago, that’s not the case anymore in recent years.

I definitely want to request other tours, like a private tour, next time! It would be fun to go hiking together too♪

結論から言うと、めちゃめちゃ面白かったです！！！！！

今回、初めて海外へのひとり旅でした。
１日はオプショナルツアーでシュノーケリングしたいなと探していたところ、このツアーを発見。
ハワイは２回目で、西は危ないと書かれているサイトもけっこう見かけていたので１回目は調べもしていなかったのですが、西に連れて行ってくれるツアーあるんだ♪ってことでさっそく予約。
もちろんひとり参加だったので多少の不安はあったのですが、ガイドのあきまさんにお会いした瞬間、その不安はなくなりました。

今回は日本人のご夫婦がいらっしゃって、それ以外に海外の方(国はわかりませんでしたが、、、)も参加されており、そのためかBobさんという男性とあきまさんのお二人がガイドしてくれました。英語がしゃべれたらその方やBobさんともお話できたんだけどなぁと、英語をちゃんと勉強していかなかったことを悔やみました。

パワースポットについての伝説や名前の由来などはもちろん、ハワイの歴史やハワイの方々の考え方、暮らし、状況など、いろいろなことをあきまさんが面白くわかりやすく、ときにクイズ形式で説明していただけるので、車に乗っている間も観光中も満喫できました。
というか、まだまだいろいろ聞いていたかったぐらいです。

シュノーケルについては、カメに会えなかったのは残念でしたが(Bobさんだけ見つけてましたが、海の下のほうだったので海面にいた私たちには見えませんでした笑）、ウニを触ったり頭に乗っけてもらったり（もちろん、丁寧にあきまさんが海に戻しておりました）、ハワイにしかいない魚が見られたりと、楽しかったです。
フリーダイビングまではいかなくても、ある程度の素潜りできるようになりたいと思いましたね～。

あ、西は１０年以上前は治安がよくはなかったが、近年はそのようなことはないとのことです。

ぜひ、次回はプライベートツアーなど他のツアーもお願いしたいです！
ハイキングとかもご一緒できたら楽しそうです♪

The guide was very knowledgeable, so I was never bored listening to him! Touring while hearing about history and trivia allowed me to feel nature more deeply, making it a very memorable and stimulating experience! During the afternoon snorkeling, I was lucky enough to encounter a sea turtle, and although we can't touch them due to the law, it came very close to us, and I was completely charmed by its cuteness! We had Dan for our guide. On the drive out to the bay he gave us lots of useful information about the local culture. He was upbeat and very knowledgeable. At the bay he was organized and took very good care of us. We had serveral who were snorkeling for the first time and he made them feel very comfortable. As an added bonus he takes pictures of your trip and posts them to FB so you can grab them. No extra charge! Cool! I would highly recommend this excursion

She entertained us by teaching us about Hawaii's birds, fish, flowers, and state flag through quizzes, explaining their reasons and origins. She also provided detailed information about Hawaii's unique climate, lifestyle, customs, and the flowers and seeds of its plants. Regarding the western tourist spots, she humorously shared local legends and stories while guiding us.

As for the snorkeling, she not only showed us fish, coral, and turtles but also discovered dolphins a bit offshore and helped two of our companions, who weren't strong swimmers, by pulling them along on a float. It must have been quite physically demanding for her. She kindly listened to our whims.

Additionally, on that day, we were fortunate enough to encounter a parade for a world champion in martial arts (a fighter from western Hawaii) and even met a wild peacock, which suggests that our guide had a special touch. She had lived in various places around the world and had experience in different jobs, sharing her rich knowledge about the lifestyles, climates, and customs of those countries.

Finally, regarding her personality, I felt she was a kind Hawaiian born in Japan. If I have the opportunity to visit Hawaii again, I would definitely ask her to be my guide.
