My husband and I have been to the Old Lahaina Luau and prefer it to this one hands down. Drums of the Pacific seemed corny, as another reviewer posted. The emcee sounded like a barker for a side show..."and now the GRRREEAATT, the FaNTAAAASSSTIC, So-And-So (can't remember the name of the dancer) performing the ...whatever. My brother and his wife, first time visitors, were with us and enjoyed it. We didn't tell them any different so as not to spoil their evening. For first timers, it's OK but if you want culture and history, Old Lahaina Luau is far better.

Overall this was a good experience for our first luau. The setting was very nice and the fire dancer a huge hit. I thought the dancers and entertainers were great but I would have enjoyed something a little more interactive. Example, instead of just selling the crafts, allowing children to interact. The food was good but the drinks were watered down. I didn't even finish one and ended up buying a $15 drink from the bar. We would likely attend again but also might look for something a little more interactive for the kids.

From the Sheraton Maui where I stayed, it was surprisingly close to walk along the beach walk, arriving in about 7 to 8 minutes. There was an ID check at the entrance, and it seems it's better to have something like a driver's license. Unfortunately, I didn't have anything on me, but I passed without any issues.
While waiting in a long line, we were greeted by a typical Hawaiian light rain, which resulted in a rainbow appearing in the sky, and a nearby American family took a photo for us. By the way, it seems there were quite a few fewer participants from Japan.
The content of the show was well-structured and enjoyable, although the food had a somewhat wild impression for a Japanese person.

We participated as a family of four.
It was a morning sunrise tour.
We drove to the Lahaina Harbor parking lot with a rental car. Even though it was early in the morning, there were staff present, and when we mentioned the Trilogy tour, we were able to park for $10 for the day.
Participants came from Canada, the United States, and South Korea, and there were no Japanese participants. There was no Japanese-speaking guide.
The ride was comfortable with no waves or wind, just as the sun was rising. On the way, we passed near a large pod of dolphins that were swimming around. The dolphins played a game of chase with the boat. The classic cinnamon rolls were freshly made and warm, and they were delicious.
At Floppy Bay, there was still no one around around 9 AM. It felt like we had the place to ourselves. The bay had high waves at the shoreline, so we needed to wear fins a little offshore where the waves were calmer, which confused my 9-year-old a bit. We saw plenty of fish, and the coral preservation was good, with excellent water clarity. Since there were some waves, it seemed better to stay away from the shallows and rocky areas. We observed underwater at a depth of 2 to 3 meters in slightly deeper water. Since we had children with us, it was reassuring that a staff member from Trilogy sat on a surfboard nearby to monitor everyone's safety. Finally, when we were getting back onto the sandy beach, we had to rush up with the waves, or we might get pulled back out, but the tour captain helped pull the children up onto the shore.
The city tour didn’t have much to see. It was evident that many Japanese immigrants had once contributed to pineapple farming, and their struggles were palpable. There were photos of Japanese people and Japanese dolls in the museum.
Back at the harbor, the barbecue chicken was delicious. Unlike snorkeling from the boat, being on land meant we could enjoy lunch without getting seasick, which is one of the great things about this tour.
The return trip was supposed to follow the same route, but there were a few waves. The captain had advised everyone to take motion sickness medication for the return trip, saying it would be bumpy, so I took it and ended up feeling good and falling asleep.
This felt like a true resort tour, and I was very satisfied.

The Captain worked hard to help us find unique and interesting things to see as we sailed - made for great pictures and gave us a better understanding of the wildlife and the environment they live in.
The crew on board were fantastic hosts! So helpful and cheerful! They all worked really hard to make sure we were safe and happy and well fed...all with a smile! We really appreciated all of their efforts to make us welcome!

Before departing for my trip, I decided to participate based on the information that there are so many whales around Maui at this time of year that it's called "whale soup." Since I was staying at a hotel in Ka'anapali, it was very convenient that the whale watching tour was the only one departing from Ka'anapali, while most others were from Lahaina. I was able to see many whale backs and tails, but it was a bit disappointing that I only saw their heads and full jumps once. However, it was a fun two hours as I shared the joy of spotting whales with the staff and other guests. Motion sickness medication is a must.

The cruise was very safe and very fun too. We went during January and we got the added perk of seeing the humpback whales. It was such a great added bonus that we didn't have to take a whale watching cruise in addition. The crew was so friendly and embraced the laid back Hawaiian attitude. The Captain was very knowledgeable about the whales and gave us lots of information while we were watching them. The wet suit add on (for $5) was also a good thing to get as it helped me not to be quite so cold in the water. The optional lunch for $7 was also a decent quality as you could choose from chicken, burgers, hot dogs, or bar-b-que as well as chips. The complementary sodas, beer and wine were also pretty nice. Unfortunately it was raining on the night we went, were handed plastic poncho's at the door to an outdoor cement courtyard and facing away from the beach. This was disappointing compared to others I had read about. We paid extra for preferred seating, which was probably better than sitting up the back. Our table service was not good and agree with other reviews the Mai Tai's were awful, had to go to the bar to ask for wine instead. Still all in all it was what a Laua is all about, the dancers were great, had a good laugh at them doing the NZ Huka. Would still recommend.

I participated in a sunset tour. Everything was in English, which might be tough for those who don't understand it at all. Personally, I dislike tours that are only for Japanese people, so I found it interesting. Also, since it's quite an expensive tour, there weren't many young people who looked like students (Maui itself is a luxury resort, so there weren't many young people like that).
The food and service were very attentive, and I think the cost performance is quite good. Cinnamon rolls, burritos, and fruits were served on the boat, along with a BBQ dinner, and on the way back, alcohol and ice cream desserts were provided. Of course, drinks were included as well. I think it was quite generous.
The staff answered various questions, and their explanations about the island and the boat were interesting. However, if you're a beginner at snorkeling, the sunset tour might be a bit challenging. Since the winds are strong in the afternoon in Maui, I recommend the morning tours over the sunset ones. It seems that morning is the best time for snorkeling in Maui. Therefore, I hardly saw any fish on this tour... Additionally, when we landed on the island, there were options for exploring the island by car or snorkeling at the beach, which was nice because we could do what we wanted.
I didn't feel seasick at all. People from other tour companies also said that Trilogy's tour is the least likely to make you seasick and that the service is good.
