We searched for whales for about an hour and a half after setting sail, but unfortunately, we didn't see any. The explanations were only in English, and I didn't understand most of it. However, we finally found a pod of dolphins and spent quite a long time moving through the sea with them. Many dolphins swam around the boat, and we were able to see them up close. They jumped repeatedly, putting on quite a show. In conclusion, I'm glad I participated.

I attended a Christmas luau with my elementary school child. In the morning at the hotel, I tried to reserve a Hanohano seat (which costs $8 for adults), but it was sold out. However, I was told that if we lined up on the left side of the coastal path, between around 4:20 and 4:30 PM (the gathering time was at 4:45), we could get good seats. This way, we ended up right behind the Hanohano seats in front of the stage. Upon entry, we received a shell lei for free. Mai Tais and beers were unlimited. After enjoying making fish out of tattoos and palm leaves, we watched the Kalua pig being brought out and the king entering from the sea, followed by our meal time (which included Hawaiian foods like poi and haupia, and we were full). The show featured dances from Hawaii, New Zealand, Tahiti, and a fire dance from Samoa (which the kids loved!).
It was interactive, with hula dancing, shouting greetings from each country loudly, and even doing lomi lomi massages with the person next to you, which was a lot of fun. There were few Japanese people, and the family next to us was from Portland, but we got along well. Let's enjoy together with the foreigners!

It was my first time on the Big Island of Hawaii. I absolutely wanted to experience a luau! I thought it might be a bit different from Oahu, so I joined this tour. It was more packed than I expected, and I wanted to experience various things, so the time flew by.
First, he bought me a fresh lei for a commemorative photo! (Even if you don't buy one, everyone receives a shell lei.) When we were shown to our seats, the men immediately got up to grab drinks from the drink bar. In the meantime, I greeted the people at the same table. Then we headed to the plaza where various events were happening. First, I got a tattoo-style painting on my arm. I requested my favorite honu (sea turtle)! I also joined a hula lesson that had already started nearby. They quickly taught us the choreography for one song. I learned how to crack a coconut and did some weaving with lauhala (though I wasn't participating, so I don't know what was being made). Then they showed us the kalua pig, which is the main dish for dinner (a whole pig cooked underground).
There was never a dull moment! As the sun began to set, a canoe carrying Kamehameha arrived from the shore. This marked the beginning of the show. When I returned to my seat to get food, various dances from different countries were performed on stage.
I was able to chat with a newlywed couple from California at my table, and it was a very enjoyable evening.

On the first day of my arrival, I went to the show. I felt like it started before I really understood what was happening, probably because I'm not used to English, but I was quite moved by the appearance of the king. I was able to experience a ceremonial hula that you can't find in other dinner shows. Everyone there was very friendly, but since I couldn't speak English, I could only manage polite smiles. It seems that having better English skills is necessary to enjoy it more. As for the food... well, it was just average. I was happy to drink a lot of Kona coffee, though.

When you go to Hawaii, you definitely have to enjoy a dance show! However, it can feel a bit lonely if you don't understand English. The host will show you where to sit. After that, it would be a waste to just sit there not knowing what to do! You can go get a free drink and enjoy it, or before the show, you can learn how to open coconuts, get a tattoo, make angel fish from palm leaves, and learn hula dancing at two different stations. Even if you don't understand English, it's better to get up and explore rather than just sitting around.
The buffet-style meal is also guided to your table, so you just have to wait! The food is delicious, and it seems like it was tailored to suit Japanese tastes! It's really tasty! The dancing is fun, and the scent of the ocean and the sound of the waves are refreshing, which made me feel great.
However, it was a bit disappointing that it rained in Kona, which is quite rare!

We participated as two families. Since it was an English tour, I was a bit anxious, but with the voucher, there were no issues at the reception. Once on board, the staff was kind, which made me feel at ease. The boat anchored in about 8 meters of water. Although I started snorkeling feeling a bit overwhelmed at first, I gradually got used to it and began to see fish and even dive a little...
The kids boldly played by jumping into the sea from the second deck of the boat using a slide and diving from the deck (4-5 meters). The parents also returned to their childhood and jumped in as well.
There are two episodes related to the camera...
First, a friend's husband dove from the deck with a camera! When he came up from underwater, he had a cut on his forehead... the camera had hit him. Fortunately, the injury wasn't too serious, but the camera was broken. For some reason, we all ended up laughing... everything becomes fun when you're here.
Second, my husband came down the stairs from the deck with ease. However, he slipped at the end! The camera he was holding disappeared into the sea. But the staff dove in and found the camera for us. We were so moved. Thank you very much.

Our family consisted of our youngest child, a 4-year-old girl, and two boys aged 13 and 15, along with my spouse. We had a decent time. I'm not sure if it was because it was a Monday, but there were about 30 participants in total. The breakfast pastries and fruits, as well as the ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch, were plentiful enough that there were leftovers at the end. I thought the flavors were quite American and a bit bland, but my son really enjoyed the breakfast muffins, and my wife loved the vegetables served at lunch and went back for seconds. The deck was not crowded with that number of people, which felt just right.
After about a 30-minute sail, we arrived at our destination and started snorkeling. The instructions were only in English, but I assumed that the safety information was all that mattered, so I think as long as you have some common sense, you should be fine. The only warning was that "fins should not be worn until just before entering the water," and there were no other particular issues. My 4-year-old daughter, who dislikes getting her face wet, was floating with a life jacket. The three men dove down to about 4 meters to see the fish, but unfortunately, the fish were scarce... (this might have been specific to that day?). This was the biggest downside. I don't know how Hanauma is these days, but I don't think there's much difference (the water wasn't murky like at Hanauma). There was one more thing: the man steering the boat was completely unfriendly. The other crew members were all nice (no worries there). Also, if you're prone to seasickness, it's advisable to take medication beforehand. The ham and cheese sandwiches after snorkeling might be heavy for some people... but I still felt like I wanted to participate again.

A unique space completely different from the glamorous dinner shows in urban areas... You can enjoy a relaxed luau and buffet at an outdoor venue full of mood, backed by the Huehue Heiau floating in Kamakahonu Bay in front of the King Kamehameha Hotel.
After a welcome with a shell lei (fresh flower lei for an additional $4) and a commemorative photo, you can enjoy drinks and take your seats. The entertainment begins with body painting and the Coconut Man, followed by the unearthing of the imu (the roasted pig) and the royal court entrance ceremony... There's over an hour of fun before the meal^^
Once you return to your seats, the buffet starts. Since seating is organized by table, there's no crowding, and the food is replenished continuously, allowing you to savor all the dishes. All drinks are free, and you can order at the drink stand. There were fruit punch, cola, Sprite, beer, red and white wine, and Mai Tai. The Mai Tai here is light on rum, making it very easy to drink and highly recommended♪
As your stomach is pleasantly filled and the sun begins to set, the main show starts. With the MC's sweet singing voice and introductions to the history of Big Island interspersed, there are hula, Polynesian, Hawaiian cowboy, tribal dances, and fire dances, all unfolding in a powerful display on a small stage. The Coconut Man also joins the dancers, adding jokes to the diverse program, which is understandable given that it was fully booked even on a weekday (Thursday).
For those with small children (and those who are impatient), I recommend reserving the front-row HANOHANO seats to get to the buffet quickly, as the wait for food can be long and everything is conducted in English. Reservations can be made at the hotel luau desk on the day (before entry). (On weekdays, it's $10 for adults and $8 for children.)
I participated on the night of my arrival on the Big Island, and despite the busy departure from Japan, flight fatigue, and a bit of jet lag, I was able to relax and unwind.
This time, thanks to ALAN's "It's expensive! Alan-chan (lowest price guarantee)," the adult participation fee was changed from $65 to $60!

I just returned from my 11th trip to Hawaii after a year and a half. This was my second time on the Big Island. As for the Island Breeze Luau, my impression is "just okay."
From a show perspective, I prefer the grand performance at the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu. There were six male dancers and four female dancers, if I remember correctly. One of the female dancers wasn't that great. Maybe she was still inexperienced?
Regarding the food, the basic luau dishes like kalua pig, lau lau, lomi lomi salmon, ahi poke, and haupia were all very delicious. However, the buffet serving area was quite small for the number of guests (only two spots), and each table had to go up at staggered times. Unfortunately, the table I was seated at was the last to go, and while I didn't have to worry about food running out, I ended up waiting a long time and got really hungry.
As for the location, I stayed at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, which made it easy to get there. It was nice to have the ocean right in front of me.
One more thing that caught my attention was the commemorative photo at the entrance. At the Paradise Cove Luau on Oahu, the dancers joined in for a very vibrant photo, but at the Island Breeze Luau, they just had the guests stand there for a picture. The background was just a hedge, making it look like an amateur digital camera shot. Of course, I didn't buy that photo.
So, for those who have never experienced a luau and are only going to the Big Island, I would say it's "worth a try." However, if you're also visiting Oahu, I highly recommend the Polynesian Cultural Center or Paradise Cove Luau.

*Although, I felt that the boarding process at the pier was a bit disorganized.
I think those who are sensitive and tired will find it very healing.

I participated in a luau, one of the highlights of my three-day stay in Hawaii. A friend who calls himself a Hawaii expert told me that if I'm in Hawaii, it would be a waste to just have dinner every night, so I joined the luau, and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad I participated. While luaus are not very familiar to us Japanese, they are said to be the most popular among American travelers in Hawaii. I’ve heard that luaus originally were ceremonial feasts for Polynesian royal families or celebrations for the growth of children in general families, but for me, it was an exotic dinner with a Polynesian entertainment show that provided a sense of extraordinary experience for one night in Hawaii.
The Island Breeze Luau I attended was held on the beach next to the Kailua-Kona harbor. Upon entry, I received a drink, and after a while, there was the traditional ceremony of unearthing the roasted pig, which brought an indescribable sense of the extraordinary. After that, it was time for the buffet-style dinner, where I piled my plate with my favorite Hawaiian pork dish (kalua pork) and various dishes I had never seen before, eating until I could hardly move. Some dishes were delicious, while others made me wonder, "What is this?" but overall, I was very satisfied. As the sun began to set, the full-fledged Polynesian show started. The host's English was only half understandable for me, as I struggle with the language, but the Polynesian show featuring men and women unfolding one after another to the lively music of the backing musicians was breathtaking. From hula dancing to fire dancing, I was captivated by the charm of the exotic female dancers. With wonderful music, enchanting dances, a Hawaiian dinner, and the beach and sunset in Hawaii, thank you so much, Island Breeze Luau. As I passed by numerous restaurants in the streets of Kailua-Kona on my way back, I thought to myself that I was glad I participated in the luau instead of just having a meal at a restaurant. Maybe I am already a Hawaii expert?

I have attended a number of luaus on different islands, and I will honestly say that the Island Breeze Luau will be recommended with the highest praise...Very complete, well produced and effeciently conducted - reflects spirit and atmosphere of Hawaii.

It was my first time on the Big Island of Hawaii. As expected, it was a lava island, and I was surprised by the differences from Oahu. Since I stayed at the King Kamehameha Hotel, the Island Breeze Luau was conveniently held right in the backyard by the beach. Upon entering, I was presented with a shell lei by a Hawaiian beauty for a commemorative photo. People here are even more laid-back than on Oahu. When I was shown to my seat and looked back, there was the Pacific Ocean! Watching the waves crash against the lava rocks, I understood why King Kamehameha chose the Big Island as his home. I also got to see the imu ceremony (the ritual of taking out a pig that has been steamed for hours in an underground oven), and just as I was enjoying some drinks, we were served a royal feast buffet-style. The banquet, with the cool Kona breeze blowing, felt just like being with King Kamehameha himself. After we finished eating, the Polynesian show began. First, I was dazzled by the Tahitian fast hip-shaking dance, then overwhelmed by the Maori war dance, and finally enchanted by the beauty of the Hawaiian hula. It was an hour that flew by in no time. The finale was, without a doubt, the Samoan fire knife dance. They performed tricks that looked incredibly hot, exciting the audience. Throughout the show, friendly locals brought us drinks, and I was very satisfied. I believe it's a show that anyone, whether families, couples, or friends, can enjoy with peace of mind. If you have the chance to go to the Big Island, I highly recommend it!

This was my first time participating, and I was able to experience the cheerful and warm nature of the locals, as well as the beautiful underwater scenery of Hawaii Island up close. Additionally, the fact that there were few Japanese people added to the appeal. For those who are not good at English, I think they can still feel what others are saying through their intuition. Unlike tours aimed at Japanese people, the buffet-style snacks on the boat felt quite affordable.

Aside from our family of five, everyone else was from abroad. It was great to choose a tour with very few Japanese people. We were able to communicate in simple English with an elderly couple from America, honeymooning couples, the captain, and the crew, and the kids seemed to enjoy it too. Although not much Japanese was spoken, they provided explanations in Japanese for snorkeling precautions. The lunch sandwiches were delicious and very American. Since the age limit for children was up to 17 years old, my sons, who are 15 and 17 and quite big, could also enjoy it at a lower price. I didn't swim, but there was plenty of shade, so I wasn't troubled. The timing was just right, allowing us to enjoy our favorite activities in the afternoon as well. If I have the chance to go again, I will participate.

We boarded the Body Glove boat from the Kailua Pier in Kona. Looking around, I noticed there were no Japanese people. Aside from our family of five and a family that seemed to be from the Middle East, almost everyone else was white. I tried to communicate with the white family sitting next to us and an elderly couple, but I could only catch fragmented words I learned long ago. From what I gathered, the husband had been to Osaka for business. They were on a trip from the mainland U.S. to Hawaii on a ship anchored offshore. I reflected that I need to take English conversation classes when I return home.
Before long, we arrived at our destination, Pawai Bay. We were lent masks and fins and entered the water. Floating on the surface and peering down, I saw a variety of beautiful fish and some delicious-looking sea urchins. It was amazing, and after drifting for a while, I returned to the boat and devoured a sandwich filled with ham and salad, feeling very satisfied.
It was my first time snorkeling, and it was an experience that I could easily get addicted to. By the way, I really want that stick-like float!

Since I went a bit out of season, there were relatively few guests participating, and I was able to relax comfortably on the boat. The boat was also clean, and having a shower was a nice touch. The sea was calm that day, and I could spend the whole day snorkeling and just lounging on the boat, allowing me to forget the hectic life in Japan and unwind.
