The sunset was a no-go due to the hurricane's impact, but the sea of clouds was perfect. The clouds cleared, and the starry sky at an altitude of 3000 meters was amazing! I realized that the Milky Way really exists and that satellites are flying above. It became a wonderful memory.

Our guide, Gordon, made sure the shuttle ride was comfortable and enjoyable. the stargazing and sunset views were amazing! It is well recommended to take this tour.

Lasagna was a bit salty for asian taste in my opinion. Browny, cookies and drinks were nice. Jumpers and gloves were provided but it was still cold, so it would be better if you brought more warm clothings.

One thing, i came on this tour with my wife (newly weds) but the seats were limited, so we had to sit separately :( it would be nice if there were seating plans or notice beforehand.

Nonetheless, i would take this tour again if I do ever come back to the big island!

It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Royal Kona Resort. As soon as you arrive at the ranch, there is a parking lot on the right side. The gate is closed, so you need to open it yourself to park. The staff speaks very clear English, which is reassuring. Riding through the grasslands feels wonderful. You can ride the horse for about 50 meters three times. The horses are very well-trained, so you can ride with confidence.

Mauna Kea Summit Sunrise & Stargazing Tour

First time close to the doors to haven:)

I recommend this Sunrise tours especially to people who never conquers mountain peak higher then 3000 m.
Of course, I recommend it to everyone else, but for those who are for the first time on a higher elevation this is simply the must.

The flow of emotions I felt when I reached the peak was so overwhelming that I couldn't stop the tears.
It's almost impossible to express the feeling of inner fulfillment when you stand on the top of a high mountain watching the sunrise!

The Veltra crew did outstanding planning by set of small stops so our body can adapt to over 4000 m attitude.
First we stopped at 2000 to adapt to coldness of night and change in altitude. (They distributed parkas to all of us at that time)
Then we stopped at around 3000 m for unforgettable stargazing experience.
I saw shapes of Milky way, before but this was on completely different level.
I think the altitude of 3000 m makes substantial difference. There you don't have any light pollution but also the air is already thin enough to give you unforgettable experience of pure connection with the universe.

Then finally, just when you think that it can not get better then this, on the brink of dawn, we reached the summit and saw and felt unforgettable sunrise that will, at least in my case, stay forever in my memories.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank Veltra team and especially to our guide Stefan for allowing me to experience this unforgettable sunrise.

My first horseback riding experience! Even though my English is terrible, I had a great time.

First, they explained how to handle the horse. Of course, it was in English, but they also provided important points in broken Japanese, and with gestures, I was able to understand most of it.

As soon as we mounted, the well-behaved horses moved along, taking breaks by the water and grazing. I enjoyed the negative ions of Waipi'o while learning about taro, noni, and kukui trees!

The view from the observation deck was amazing, but the sight of Hiilawe Falls from below was also magnificent.

初めての乗馬！しかも英語はまるっきりダメな私でしたが、充分楽しめました。
先ず初めに馬の操作を説明されます。勿論英語ですが、重要な所はカタコトの日本語で説明がありジェスチャーでだいたいは分かります。
直ぐに騎乗するとお利口さんな馬達が、水辺で休憩したり草を食べたりしながら進みます。
タロイモ、ノニやククイの木々など説明を受けながらワイピオのマイナスイオンをたっぷり味わいました！
展望台から見る景色も最高ですが、下から見るヒイラベの滝も雄大でした。

We climbed the mountain in a full car under a cloudy sky with some fog. I was half giving up, thinking that we wouldn't be able to see the sunset or the starry sky. We were lent warm clothes, had lunch, and took some time to acclimatize before heading to the summit. At first, we couldn't see anything due to the fog, but around sunset, the fog cleared up nicely, and we were able to see the sunset, which was breathtaking. Initially, at the first observation point, we couldn't see the stars because of the fog, but at the next location, the beauty of the Milky Way and other sights overwhelmed us in no time. I applied online to receive the tour photos, but I'm a bit concerned as I haven't received a response yet.

My friend and I went on the stargazing and sunrise tour to the Summit of Mauna Kea yesterday. Todd was our tour guide and extremely personable. He was also a wealth of knowledge on constellations, and local landscape. The stargazing was outstanding, we saw satellites, shooting stars, and a ton of constellations not visible usually at home. The summit was breathtaking, watching the sun come up we could see the whole island and Maui from up there. It was like being on top of the world. I definitely recommend it!

If you're going to the Big Island, I highly recommend it! You can see the best sunset and, surprisingly, a lot of stars. The explanations about the mountains and constellations along the way were very easy to understand, and the attention to guests was excellent! While the weather can be a factor, I hope you get to experience the view from above the clouds.

I rated this tour one star, but there were no issues with the content of the tour or the guide's response. However, it seems we fell into the 10% of the 90% clear skies on our observation day, as we could only see a faint sunset and just three stars in the night sky (three stars...). Therefore, my satisfaction level for the sunset and stargazing tour was zero. There's nothing we can do about the weather. Since we participated on the fourth day after the hurricane passed, the road from the Onizuka Visitor Center to the summit was reportedly closed due to landslides. The guide kindly explained this at pickup, and at that point, we could cancel for a full refund. We decided to participate, and by the time we arrived at the Onizuka Visitor Center, the road to the summit had reopened. However, it seems some people canceled on the day. Our guide, Matsuzaki, did his best to keep the spirits up despite only seeing a little bit of the sun at the summit, and he took many photos for us. During the stargazing, he diligently searched for a spot without clouds and explained the stars to the participants, who were feeling quite down since we couldn't see any stars at all (laughs). In the car on the way back, everyone had a somber atmosphere, and I think the guide felt quite uncomfortable. However, I believe the content was wonderful. If I ever come back to the Big Island, I would like to participate with this company again.

I was a bit worried about whether it would be okay for my 8-year-old, but they lent us helmets, and the cowgirl explained how to handle the horses clearly and slowly. Perhaps because it was after a typhoon, the wind was strong, but we enjoyed the vast ranch spreading out in all directions, the beautiful coastline, and many sheep and cows, fully experiencing nature. There were cowgirls at the front and back who kept a close eye on the children, and they helped us choose friendly horses for my husband and kids, making it feel like they were always by our side. This is truly amazing; it's an experience that is unimaginable in Japan. We thoroughly enjoyed the two-hour course.

これは本当にすごいです、日本では到底考えられない体験です。2時間コースで満喫しました。

I was moved by both the sunset and the starry sky. I took many wonderful photos and showed them to people around me after returning home. It became a great memory for my family. I also want to thank our guide, Shin. He had a friendly conversation with my daughter, who initially wasn't very enthusiastic, but she seemed to enjoy herself. This time, during our two-week stay, the only tour was this stargazing! I was really looking forward to it, but unfortunately, the sky was cloudy and the moon was out. We could see the large moon, but the stars we were hoping to see were much better viewed back in Japan. It was disappointing.

If you have flexibility in your schedule, it's better to consider the moon phase and the time the moon rises when making a reservation. We didn't think about it at all.

I'm really disappointed. However, we were able to see a beautiful sunset.

This August, I participated in the Mauna Kea Summit Sunset & Stargazing Tour. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the stars from the summit due to the weather, but we did catch glimpses of the sunset peeking through the clouds, which was quite dramatic! Also, our guide, J IN, really wanted to show us the stars and took us to various spots to try and catch a view! The stories during our travels were enjoyable, and I had a great time! I definitely want to participate again!

I participated with my high school daughter and husband. This was our third time riding, following the Grand Canyon and Parker Ranch on the Big Island, and we are still beginners. Before we rode, they explained how to ride and safety precautions very slowly and clearly in English. During the ride, they also talked about the ranch and the Big Island, engaging us in conversation, and they guided us in a very friendly and safe manner. We could see the coastline of Kona from the ranch, and the view was outstanding. They kept our valuables in a safe, which was really helpful.

I'm sorry for the late review. My child wanted to see the stars on the Big Island, so we booked this tour. Since I had previously climbed Haleakalā on Maui, I didn't worry too much about altitude sickness. The guide took photos for us and shared fun stories during the drive, making the time fly by. The moonlight made it a bit difficult to see the stars (though it was still much better than back home), so next time we visit, I'll check the lunar calendar and will definitely book this tour again.

On the way to the summit, we gradually acclimatized to prevent altitude sickness, but when we reached the top, a few people seemed to be suffering from it. We observed the starry sky from a point much lower than the summit, where the symptoms of altitude sickness had subsided, and we were able to enjoy stargazing. 山頂に向かう途中で高山病対策で少しずつ体を慣らしていくのですが、山頂につくと数人高山病にかかり辛そうでした。無理に動かず座ってサンセットを見ていれば何とかなるようです。星空観測は山頂からだいぶ降りた所で観測したのでそこでは高山病の症状は治まっており楽しく星空観測出来ました。

The sunset from the 4200m summit was wonderful. I was thrilled to see the observatory with the Subaru Telescope. The stargazing from 3500m was also great. I was worried about altitude sickness, but I was able to enjoy it without any issues. I am grateful to our guide, Jin.

My 7 year old was a bit worried. He's definitely afraid of heights and it took a bit of convincing to get him to even agree to try. Standing on a 65 foot platform ready to zip while dangling 150+ feet over a waterfall and rock river was a bit daunting but once we started there was no turning back. He wanted to do the course again but it was time to head back to Kona. The rest of us all had a blast as well (a 13 year old and 2 old fuddy-duddy parents :-)

The guides know how to have fun and make sure everyone is being safe. They were all really great.

And if you are driving from Kona take a few extra minutes to stop on the way. There are some amazing sights along the way that are very picture worthy.

The day I participated was my 53rd birthday. The weather was perfect, and the starry sky exceeded my expectations. Tyra, the navigator from Masashi Nature School, was amazing and made it a wonderful birthday. Tyra was born in Okinawa and lived in Kanagawa until the second year of high school, so her Japanese is perfect. She made our conversations enjoyable with jokes and shared a wealth of interesting facts, which was very educational. Her explanations of the starry sky added a unique touch, and the trivia related to stars and constellations was incredibly fascinating, making me say "Wow!" repeatedly. I definitely want to join Tyra's tour again.

The borrowed winter clothing is warm enough and comfortable. Since restaurants close after 10 PM on the way back, let's prepare some late-night snacks at the hotel.

I chose this tour because it focuses on stargazing and photography at a relatively high altitude (I actually had discount coupons for other tours and was quite torn about my choice). In the end, it was extremely good! My family participated, and we were able to capture my son's best shots as well as some great photos of the volcano, which left us all thrilled.

While the weather is a matter of luck, I could feel the professionalism and teamwork of the company. Next time, I would like to use this service for a sunrise tour. Thank you very much!

I participated in a tour to observe the starry sky at Mauna Kea, hoping for a sky full of stars during the new moon. The weather was clear at the summit of Mauna Kea, and I was excited for what promised to be a wonderful night of stargazing. However, around sunset, clouds suddenly spread across the sky, and the sunset only peeked through the gaps in the clouds. Despite this, I was very lucky to see the rare phenomenon of sun pillars. After that, it started to rain, and the stars seemed to vanish. The guides, Shin and Big Jin, began searching for a stargazing spot. マウナケアでの星空観測、新月での満天の星空を期待してツアーに参加しました。マウナケアの頂上までは晴天で、今日はすばらしい星空観測日和と期待にわくわくしました。ところが、日没のころには急に雲が広がってしまい、夕日は雲のすきまからしか顔を見せてくれませんでした。そんな中ですが、太陽柱という珍しい景色を見ることができ、とてもラッキーでした。その後は、雨が降ってきて星空はどこへやら。ガイドのシンさん・ビッグジンさんによる星空観測場所探しが始まりました。かなり標高を下ったところで、「もう5分待って雲が切れなかったら帰りましょう。」と説明があり、みんなが諦めかけていたところに、突然雲が切れ、短時間ではありましたが、天の川まで見ることができました。天候に勝つことはできませんが、ガイドさんの努力により無事に星空を見ることができました。ありがとうございました。
