Indeed, the skies opened up, and we were able to fully enjoy the beautiful starry sky! Their ability to adapt and respond with such experience, even under poor conditions, was truly impressive.

I signed up for this tour in Maui hoping for a valuable experience. The hotel pickup made the two-hour drive enjoyable thanks to Yamapi's fun talk. Along the way, we were able to buy delicious local food and enjoyed dinner at the summit.

At the summit, the magnificent crater, 360-degree views, and the sunset sinking into the sea of clouds were enchanting, allowing me to forget my everyday worries. The starry sky after sunset was also amazing; I could quietly gaze at the Milky Way and other stars, bringing back precious memories from my childhood. I'm grateful to Yamapi for showing us famous star clusters and planets through the GPS telescope.

It's definitely a must-see tour!

初めていったマウイで何か貴重な体験を、と思い申し込みました。
ホテル送迎で、片道2時間のドライブも山ピーさんの楽しいトークで楽しく過ごせました。途中おいしいローカルフードも買えて、山頂での夕食を堪能しました。
山頂では壮大なクレーター、360度の眺望、雲海に沈む夕日が幻想的で、日頃の些細な悩みなど吹っ飛ぶ経験が出来ました。落日後の星空がまた最高で、天の川その他もろもろの星たちを静かに眺めることができ、遠い子供のころ観た記憶も蘇る貴重な体験でした。山ピーさんが、GPS天体望遠鏡で次々と有名な恒星群や惑星を見せてくれたことにも感謝です。

It's on my list of 10 things I want to do before I die! I want to see the starry sky at Haleakalā. After three years due to the pandemic, I'm finally back in Hawaii, and it's my first time on Maui. I immediately signed up for a stargazing tour. On the day of the tour, we were picked up at the hotel at 3:30 AM. There were two young Japanese couples and two senior women, including us. Our guide, Mr. Yamapi, was very talkative! I found myself chatting along too (laughs). We bought donuts at Krispy Kreme and poke at Foodland. Off we went to Haleakalā! We took a bathroom break at the visitor center. As we acclimated to the altitude, we made our way to the summit. As soon as we arrived at the top, a blizzard hit.

"Don't worry! I've secured the fifth point, so I will definitely show you," Mr. Yamapi said confidently. We started our descent in a blizzard where we could barely see a meter ahead. Running down the dark (or white?) mountain path from 3055 meters felt like home. And then, at the second point, we got to see the sunset at the same height as the clouds! It was moving. Then it started raining again, and we began to move. I wondered if Mr. Yamapi was navigating by watching the clouds. At the third point, he quickly set up chairs, telescopes, and other equipment...

"Don't look at the sky until I say it's okay," he told us, raising our excitement! We were fully prepared with borrowed warm clothing, and off we went! Wow! It was emotional! Even though it was a blizzard! Even though it was pouring rain! The strong winds were still trying to blow us away!

The 360-degree starry sky was perfect. It was truly the skill of a veteran guide! I'm really glad I participated. I will surely be moved every time I go. I think I will definitely return to see that starry sky again! I plan to go back to Haleakalā to deliver some pickled vegetables as a souvenir for Mr. Yamapi!

1m先も見えない吹雪の中下山開始。3055mから真っ暗（真っ白？）な山道を我が庭のように走り出す。なんと‼︎!第二ポイントで雲と同じ高さからのサンセットが見える‼︎感動。そしてまた雨が降り出し、移動開始。もしかしたら山Pさんは雲を見ながら移動してたのかな？第三ポイントで素早くイスや望遠鏡やもろもろ用意して、、、、、
『いいって言うまで絶対空見ないでくださいよ』
なんて言われて、ドキドキ期待が高まる！防寒着を貸してもらい万全の体制でいざ‼︎
うわー！泣ける！吹雪だったのに！豪雨だったのに！今も強風で飛ばされそうだけど！
ぐるり360度満点の星空です。ベテランガイドの成せる技ですね！本当に参加して良かったです。何度行ってもきっと感動するでしょう。必ずまたあの星空を観に戻ると思います！山Pさんに漬け物のお土産を届けにもう一度ハレアカラへ！

I chose this excursion to surprise my Husband on out Honeymoon and we had the best time. Yoshi was kind, knowledgeable, and fun to be around. I was even able to tell him that this was a surprise for my husband and he had no idea what we were doing and Yoshi helped me keep that secret till we were at the top of the summit. Yoshi picked us up at the Lahaina Mall and made many fun stops on our way to the top of Haleakala. First was Krispy Creme where he picked us up donuts, next we stopped at Foodland so we could all get some food for sunset and the final stop was Kula Lodge located on the volcano. We then reached the summit to watch the sunset. Yoshi was so kind and took many pictures of my Husband and I. He had blankets, coats, and gloves for us as it is quite chilly at the top. We were then able to sit in his warm van and enjoy the food we had bought at Foodland and Yoshi offered us coffee that he brought. Then the fun part started, Yoshi has very high quality telescopes. We went when there was a full moon and we were able to see the moon in very high detail as well as Saturn and Jupiter and few constellations. We will definitely be coming back when we visit Maui again and we cant wait!!

The Haleakala National Park possesses a unique landscape and a variety of species only found there.
All the stops we made on our way up were worth it, however, our guide told us that the restaurant and visitor's center were not operating because of a lack of personnel, so it'd be nicer to have these options available.
According to the description of the tour, we were supposed to get back to our pick-up place/hotel after 10 pm but we got back at 8:30 pm. I was expecting to do some stargazing up there in the mountain but there was no time, our guide asked us to be back n the van at 6:45 pm...so this is was I liked the least!!
Other than that, our guide was very polite and helpful, and he gave us a lot of information about the places we were visiting.

Yoshi was a great tour guide! He made us feel like he was so happy to share the experience with us. He is very kind and thoughtful and definitely knows all about the national park and the island itself along with all the stars and planets he shows you through his telescope. The views of the sky through the telescope were awesome. Definitely an experience we will never forget! A must do when visiting Maui.

Winter clothes were provided but bring a hat or extra gloves if you get cold easily. Yoshi did a great job of showing us the stars and we saw Saturn too! He even had Krispy Kremes and hot drinks!

It's been 24 years since my last visit to Maui. Last time, I drove to the summit of Haleakalā in a rental car, but this time I wanted to see the starry sky, so I joined a tour. We were picked up at the hotel at 3 PM, and our charismatic guide, Yamapi, led a group of five, including us.

On the way, we stopped to buy Krispy Kreme donuts (included in the tour price) and award-winning poke from Foodland before heading to the summit! We took breaks to prevent altitude sickness.

At the summit, we watched the sunset, enjoyed the poke we had just bought, and then it was finally time for stargazing. Words can't describe it. The Milky Way was clearly visible, and the sky was filled with stars. We even saw shooting stars.

The smartphone photography class for capturing the sunset and starry sky, along with all the experiences at the summit, made for a truly satisfying tour, all thanks to the wonderful personality of our guide, Yamapi. I was most surprised to learn that Yamapi was the former manager of Southern All Stars, as I've been a fan since their debut... haha.

Next time, I want to bring my kids along, so the whole family will participate. I'm already looking forward to reuniting with Yamapi. Thank you so much, Yamapi!

24年ぶりのマウイ。前回はレンタカーでハレアカラ山頂へ登りましたが、今回は満天の星空を見たく、ツアーに参加しました。15時ホテルピックアップ。私たちを含めて5名をカリスマガイドのヤマピーさんが案内してくれました。
途中、クリスピードーナツ(ツアー代金に含まれています)とフードランドで賞を取ったこともあるポキを購入し、山頂へ！(高山病予防のために休憩をとりながらです)
山頂では夕陽を見てから、先程買ったポキを食べてゆっくりした後、いよいよ星空観賞。これはもう言葉には出来ません。天の川もクッキリと見え、満天の星空です。流れ星も見ることができました。
夕陽と星空のスマホでの撮影教室、山頂での演出すべてが大満足のツアーでしたが、それもすべてガイドのヤマピーさんの素晴らしい人柄のなせる技だと感じました。
ヤマピーさんがサザンオールスターズの元マネージャーというのが、デビュー当時からのサザンファンである私にとっては一番びっくりでしたが…笑
次回は子供達にも見せてやりたいので家族全員で参加します。ヤマピーさんと再会するのが今から楽しみです。

There’s always a chance when scheduling a tour that the weather will not cooperate. Our trip was that time for the sunset at Haleakala. That was a little disappointing, but Yoshikazu more than made up for it with the stargazing. He is so knowledgeable of the stars and has a great telescope. Because it was a new moon night, we were even able to see the rings around Saturn! There were 7 of us on this tour, so he was more than willing to help with pictures for everyone. We were worried about how cold it gets up on top, but winter coats and lap blankets were included. We really enjoyed this trip!

Sarah Yadao as our guide - she is native Hawaiin and her passion for her country shown through all of the hike. We got so see natural vegetation and enjoy tasting some of he plants and fruits and she was very knowledgable and shared this with us. So we didn’t just hike we explored and forages a little. Opportunities to swim in a waterfall or two and jump if we had the courage. There were pre teens in our group and us oldies and she managed to make us all feel welcome and at ease.
Fantastic guide fantastic journey and fantastic experience too. My husband and I are In our 50s and 60s and not the fittest and we managed really well.
