Maui
The ferry was promptly on time and made the trip without any problems. The staff was friendly and welcoming. As it was a very warm day I appreciated to A/C in the main cabin lower deck!
Before the English announcement, staff member Kato guided us, which was reassuring. The first point near Molokini Island was fun with its colorful fish. At the second point, the waves got bigger, so I quickly got back on the boat, but my companion said they were able to see turtles. During the return cruise, everyone got excited when a big fish was caught. It was also interesting to watch them skillfully fillet it with a large knife.
I was unsure whether to sign up for this trip, but I'm really glad I participated! The staff were very cheerful and kind. I was impressed by the cobalt blue sea of Molokini Island! At another location, I was able to see sea turtles up close, which was amazing, and the burgers at lunch were hearty and delicious. It became a wonderful family memory. Thank you so much to all the staff.
Bruce our island guide was great and customized for us. Lanai is a special island and very worth seeing. One highlight was seeing two Indian spotted deer bucks with very large horns.
We had the best experience on our day trip to Lanai on a great boat with a fantastic captain and crew. We ended up on the 6:30AM cruise and everyone was super friendly and helpful. I really appreciated that they insist upon the use of reef safe sunscreen (and provide gobs of it for you to use). They also educate you as to why this is so important!
We saw a whale on our way out & a pod of spinner dolphins doing lots of early AM tricks. The beach at Lanai is pristine and you have it almost all to yourself.
The snorkeling was some of the best I've experienced on Maui ~ reefs are healthier than some of the others and there are loads of fish. Only complaint was that it felt a bit rushed, as we took the tour of Lanai first. Honestly I'd skip that next time and spend more time in the water. There was a photographer on the boat who was wonderful ~ she got lots of pics of the wildlife, as well as pics of families/couples on the boat & also snorkeling in the water!
The lunch was very tasty & we enjoyed chilling out with drinks and ice cream on the way back. Thanks much to the Trilogy crew for such a wonderful trip!
The crew was really nice, the 2 spots were amazing ! 4 stars only because unfortunately we didn’t see any turtle, but the overall experience is still outstanding.
It was a tour for a large group, but there were plenty of seats, and the hamburgers for lunch were freshly grilled and delicious! The water around Molokini Island was cold, but a swimsuit and a UV-protective swim parka were sufficient. I forgot to apply sunscreen, and the back of my thighs near my butt got quite sunburned. They provide coral-friendly sunscreen (everyone who applied it turned white). It seems that dolphins can be seen almost every day on Maui, and I was amazed by the large pod of dolphins swimming alongside the boat. At the second spot, we were also able to see swimming sea turtles.
We gathered at the main loading dock of Lahaina Harbor, but there was no one to greet us. When I showed this voucher at the Lanai Island ferry ticket booth, it turned out that the tickets for this tour were ready there.
After a 45-minute ferry ride, we arrived at Manele Harbor, catching a glimpse of the scenic Pu'u Pehe (Sweetheart Rock) from the sea just before our arrival. We were welcomed by our 4WD tour guide (a second-generation Japanese American whose grandfather was from Fukuoka; he spoke a little Japanese and expressed a desire to visit Japan, but he had never been due to difficulties making money in Las Vegas). Our tour began with four people, including a couple from Texas.
From the ferry, it seemed like there was no sign of habitation on the island, but after climbing the mountain for about 20 minutes, we arrived at Lanai City, where most of the island's population (about 3,000 people) is concentrated. There are no buildings, no supermarkets, and only a couple of restaurants, with one movie theater. However, there are 14 churches. There are also two high-end hotels rated L. It seems that the people who stay here are not tourists but rather individuals looking to enjoy a leisurely time in a different world.
As we circled the town and headed toward the garden of the gods, Keahiakabello, we noticed neatly planted pine trees along the road, and a family of wild deer could be seen a little off the road. This area was once a pineapple farm, but part of it is now operated as a horse ranch. Along the road, there were pieces of black sheet film, likely used in the pineapple farm, scattered and contributing to environmental pollution.
As we continued north, we were jolted along a very bumpy road, characteristic of a 4WD, arriving at Keahiakabello, where red earth and large rocks or oddly shaped stones were scattered everywhere. From here, we could also see Molokai Island nearby. Our half-day tour included one more stop, where we might be lucky enough to see monk seals or honu (turtles) at a spot with a shipwreck, but unfortunately, we didn’t see any.
After leaving that location, we returned to Lanai City, said goodbye to the Texas couple on the full-day tour, and arrived at Manele Harbor just 10 minutes before our departure time, successfully boarding the ferry. The return trip was quite different from the outbound journey, as we faced significant waves during the 45-minute ride. Among the Hawaiian Islands, Lanai is small and quiet, allowing us to experience a little of the slow flow of time. Now, we are considering when to visit Molokai Island next.
Had a great time, good food, good drinks, good time
I visited Lanai Island, which is easily accessible by boat from Maui. It was an absolutely wonderful island that I had never imagined! It felt like a place where nature began, a place of origins.
The most amazing spot that I definitely want to visit again is Sweetheart Rock! Perhaps because of the legend of a tragic love story, the scenery is untouched and incredibly dynamic! The sky and sea are so blue! I could have gazed at it forever.
And! Our guide, Isaac, was the best! He explained everything with great effort to us, who are not very confident in English, and even took care of our lunch concerns. I am so grateful! I definitely want to join Isaac's tour again! Thank you for all the wonderful memories!
Took the round trip ferry ride to Lanai. Very comfortable ride. We expected Lanai City to be at the ferry dock...should have done more research.
The ferry runs regularly from Lahaina to Lanai. They are efficient and get you there safely. The ferry is comfortable with enclosed cabins to stay warm and dry...or cool and dry depending on the day.
For anyone who comes to Maui frequently an eventual day trip to Lana’i is a welcome diversion. The 45 minute ferry ride is relaxing with great cliff views approaching Manele Harbor. Our tour included a morning drive with high point and view stops and a tour of Lana’i City, a lunch/shopping break and another drive to cover some more points of interest. Lana’ Is a bit of a time warp with both an ancient history and a new future with its purchase by Oracle founder Larry Ellison. The best part was our tour guide, Bruce, who gave the day his all. Loved it! Take cash as it’s so tiny some places do not accept credit cards. We had a 5 year old in our group of 5 who did great. If you are curious take the whole tour. There is also one lovely beach you can walk to from the ferry if you just want to chill.
Captain Dan and the crew were fantastic! Friendly and helpful, even though they they had just come back from the morning cruise. They truly enjoy their work and it shows! We will recommend them to all our family and friends!
ALoha! Mahalo for joining us on the Four Winds II. We appreciate your business and hope to see you again during your next Maui vacation!
We participated with my 3-year-old child, my husband, and my mother, making a group of four. By the time we returned to the port, it was drizzling, but we were blessed with great weather, creating truly wonderful memories. My mother was a bit anxious about participating since she had hurt her legs and back not long ago, but thanks to the support of our Japanese guide, Kana, she was able to safely enter the sea and was very happy. She didn't want to get out of the water! The staff on the boat were very attentive, which made us feel very secure.
My husband carried our child into the sea. Although our child wore a life jacket and snorkeling goggles, they were too scared to put their face in the water. Many kids enjoyed using boards with scopes attached to them. There were also parts of the boat where you could peek into the water, and our child was delighted to see the sea from there.
In the morning, there was a buffet on the boat with fruits, cupcakes, and drinks. For lunch, we had a choice of hamburgers or hot dogs, with patties and sausages grilled fresh on the boat in a BBQ style. I couldn't drink since I was driving, but by the end, the boat turned into a bar where we could enjoy local craft beers and other drinks. All the staff were cheerful, and we had a really fun time.
They also provided reef-safe sunscreen, which I appreciated. I felt like they thought of everything. I would love to participate again when my child is older. Thank you very much!
On the day of the tour, we drove there with a rental car. We quickly found parking, but the meeting point was not at the address listed; it was in the area circled in the map photo that was sent later. It was a bit confusing, but we found it right away. After confirming attendance, we signed the board and received our boarding passes before setting sail. Breakfast was already prepared on board, with fruits, bread, and coffee available. The boat is two stories, with a kitchen, bar, and two restrooms on the first floor. The second floor has the cockpit and benches for passengers. Most of the participants in the tour were young couples and families, with few Asians present.
The tour took us to two locations. The first stop was Molokini Island, where we could enjoy snorkeling for about an hour. The tour includes goggles and fins, but not wetsuits. We rented wetsuits for $10 each on the day. The water temperature was a bit low, so having one would be more comfortable if you plan to stay in the water for a long time. On the way to the second location, we had hamburgers, which were incredibly delicious after swimming! Be sure to enjoy them while breathing in the fresh air; it feels wonderful. The second spot is said to be where sea turtles can be seen around Waimea. As the guide mentioned, we were able to see a sleeping sea turtle! On the way back, drinks were available at the bar, including three types of beer and Mai Tais. We enjoyed a relaxing adult time. I highly recommend it.
This would be good with the kids. I don't have kids so, anyway with family this is great. As an adult date situation not as much. Go with the kids and have fun.
Aloha! The Four Winds II is a family-fun boat, but still has amenties for all ages. Next time you are on Maui, I would recommend a trip on our sister vessel the Maui Magic which is a smaller catamaran that takes ages 5 & up.
Mahalo,
Nikki Andricci
Nice ride. I appreciated that I could change my return time
The crew was fast and friendly, the ocean was calm and a brilliant blue. Easy does it, there on time and a great way to travel!
We were blessed with great weather, calm waves, and high visibility, allowing us to enjoy snorkeling under excellent conditions. Among the participants, we were the only two Japanese, but thanks to the wonderful support from the staff member Takako, we were able to spend our time from check-in to check-out without any worries or inconveniences. Even though it was already April, at the end of the season, we were thrilled to see whales multiple times before reaching Molokini Island. At the snorkeling spot, Takako quickly found a sea turtle and let us know, allowing us to fully enjoy the experience. The meals and drinks on the boat were diverse and delicious, and during snack time, they even walked around distributing cookies on the deck, showcasing their thorough hospitality. Throughout the tour, it was impressive to see the staff working energetically and happily. This became the best memory of our trip. I highly recommend this to anyone planning to visit Maui!
Great food and saw some whales. Very nice crew members.
Mahalo for joining us!
We have been coming to Maui for years but have never ventured off the island to visit Lana'i. First of all, Veltra allowed us to change the tour date from a Monday to a Thursday with no problem since we had a conflict come up. The ferry ride from Lahaina was easy and took about 45 minutes. The sea was very calm and although they recommend taking sea sickness pills, it wasn't necessary for this trip. Our tour guide Bruce, met us at the ferry dock on Lana'i. He drove us around in an air conditioned Suburban which was very comfortable. It was just the two of us so the tour was really personalized. We took the full day tour which really gives you a great impression of the island. The tour was about 2 1/2 hours in the morning, then an hour for lunch and 2 hours in the afternoon. Bruce, our guide has lived on Lana'i for 20 years and was very knowledgeable. He has seen the positive changes that have occurred on Lanai' since Larry Ellison bought the island five years ago and thoroughly explained the evolution of the island through the current day. We were then dropped off at the ferry dock for the 4:30 p.m. ferry back to Lanai--note, you need to book the return ferry when you schedule the tour and for the all day tour, the 4:30 p.m. ferry is the one to take.
Very attentive staff, great experience. Food was good, saw lots of fish and an eel.
It started out as an ordinary boat ride, on a beautiful clear day, light variable winds. Then, nearing Lanai, we noticed dolphins swimming close to the ferry, going the opposite direction. Some were leaping and spinning. Our boat captain took the moment to slow the boat and loop back around to circle the dolphins again. Thrilling boat ride after all!
I guess part of my delight in the day was the weather -- beautiful and warm on the island. Return trip just as smooth as when I went out in the morning. Then saw a whale.
I'd do the trip again in a minute!
The ferry ride was exceptional! Lanai was beautiful! This day trip was the highlight of our Maui stay for my wife and I and our three teen daughters. We will be back again very soon. Mahalo!
The arrangements were smooth. The pick-up and drop-off after arrival were also seamless, making it a great value and very convenient. I will definitely use this service again next time.
I participated during Golden Week, and although it was a bit cold at times, the sea was beautiful with plenty of fish! After diving, it might be a good idea to take measures to stay warm on the boat.
Ron was a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable. Only suggestion is to remove the tint from the back windows. They were dark and we had to roll down the windows to see out.
The staff were friendly, and the service on board was attentive. On the way to Lanai Island, we encountered a pod of wild dolphins, and it was wonderful to stop the boat and take our time to watch them. Once we arrived at Lanai Island, we were able to see many colorful fish while snorkeling! Those who wished could participate in a tour of Lanai Island, and I joined. The local female guide was very polite and shared many stories unique to the area. On the return trip, we enjoyed drinks while watching the sunset, making for a truly lovely time. I would definitely like to go again!
We had a comfortable trip there & back. Wish you still had a ferry running to Molokai
