The original reservation date was unfortunately canceled due to bad weather, but they offered a chance for a revenge opportunity the following day with a sunny forecast. After taking the time to enjoy the setting sun, we were enveloped in pitch darkness, revealing a sky full of stars. We were even able to see the beautiful Southern Cross. It was an experience unique to being with Yamapi, who has many years of experience. I'm really glad I participated!

Yoshi is an excellent tour guide. He took lots of care driving us up the mountain to reach the 10000 ft mark. Once there he took us to a special spot where we saw the beautiful sunset then he set up chairs with blankets and gloves for the cooler temperatures. We saw lots of stars and planets. After checking in at the local office, we selected our rain gear (top and bottom) and helmets, and then we all departed by bus. The gentleman in charge of the local reception was incredibly busy, handling everything from check-in to driving the bus all by himself. It took about an hour and a half to reach the summit, where we waited for the sunrise. Watching the sun rise majestically from below the sea of clouds was both awe-inspiring and mystical. However, it was extremely cold for about 30 minutes during this time, and even with thermal underwear and a down jacket, I was freezing. After the sun came up, we took the bus down a bit further, and finally it was time for downhill cycling! We divided into teams for introductions, and just as we were about to start, it suddenly began to rain. We ended up soaking wet during the downhill ride, but it was a lot of fun descending the mountain. The scenery was completely white, so I would love to have a chance to do it again.

We had an absolutely incredible experience on our recent stargazing tour with Yoshi. We brought 4 adults and 4 kids (5-8 years old) to the summit and everyone had a blast. You can never predict Mother Nature so while at the summit (which was very windy and cloudy), Yoshi made the decision to change stargazing locations to another spot a little lower on the mountain and his expertise was rewarded as we were able to watch a beautiful sunset and view the stars from our new spot. It was such a memorable experience for everyone, I would 100% recommend this activity to anyone visiting Maui.

We were over 30 minutes early for the scheduled tour shuttle, which was good because they showed up right after we did and wanted to leave.
The guide was very nice, but carried on a conversation with the passenger in the front seat for a lot of the time, and didn't inform us about much in the 3+ hours we spent in the van.
It was mostly cloudy all day, but he said it would clear up on top of the mountain. Well.. it didn't. He had a nice jackets, chairs and a blanket for everyone, as well as a nice telescope. The sky opened up for a quick look at Jupiter and it's moons, and our moon, but nothing else. We spent inside of 2 minutes total, looking through the telescope. Not much discussion of anything at all. It was a total bust and certainly not worth $230 per person. Make sure the sky will be clear and the moon will not be out as it makes it nearly impossible to see anything. Otherwise you're wasting your time and money. I know the tour guide doesn't control the weather, and he did offer a return trip next time we were on the island with a half day to spend in a van, but we will pass.

Yoshi was amazing, he made the entire trip up and down the mountain entertaining just by his talking, facts and nice collection of soothing music. We went with a full bus and still managed to make room for one extra family member, so eight of the back we were grateful for this. The entire sight on the top of the mountaintop was beautiful and alien like but the highlight was the star gazing where Yoshi quickly set up his two telescopes and chairs and blankets for everyone along with the jackets he had already provided us. This coupled with his extensive knowledge of the stars made the entire trip a once in a lifetime experience. I only hope that my soon to be wife and I can take our future children to this tour with Yoshi. I’ll put it to you like this, even if we hadn’t seen any stars I would have been happy just having him drive us up and down the mountain and I had already done it myself, that’s how much I enjoyed his commentary and the ride.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time and this was the best sunset and stargazing tour that my friend and I have participated in. Mr. Yoshi was very friendly from start to finish -- he made sure that we had time to eat food, stay hydrated, and rest well as we climbed in elevation. I was originally worried I wouldn't get to get my stamp for my national park passport because of the visitor center closure, but Mr. Yoshi asked the entrance park employee for a stamp on a post-it note, and it made my day! He knew the best places for sunset, and was very knowledgeable about all the stars. We learned so much about the sky, and enjoyed peaceful moments just looking up. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone spending time on Maui!
