This is very first time for us to enjoy such beautiful sunset especially stargazing we have never seen before. I will strongly recommend Maui All Stars to my friends.
The tour was very informative and lots of scenery to take in. When they say to layer for the top of Haleakala, take the suggestion. It was very cold at just short of 10,000 feet when the sun starts going down. It was a beautiful end to the day. A definite must for your bucket list.
We gathered in the afternoon and made our way to the summit while taking breaks along the way. To avoid altitude sickness, we ascended slowly, and near the top, they flexibly adjusted our location based on the weather and the number of tourists. Although it was almost a full moon, we could see many stars, and the explanation using the telescope was very interesting. Next time, I would like to go during a different season, preferably close to a new moon.
You can borrow a jacket and gloves similar to ski wear, which provides considerable warmth, but it's also good to bring a down inner layer, a hat that covers your ears, and socks that don't expose your ankles. My husband wore down pants as well, so he was even more insulated from the cold.

The evening of our tour wasn't the best as the clouds wouldn't leave the top of Mt. Haleakala. So, we didn't see the sunset nor the stars. Yoshi did take us to to other locations as we descended Haleakala and FINALLY the stars could be seen. We viewed the heavenlies for at least 30 minutes if not more. What fun!! And Yoshi provided us with coats and blankets to keep us warm. The donuts and hot coffee and tea was appreciated as well. It was a fun evening.
Our stargazing tour with Yoshi was an experience we won't forget! Yoshi was very knowledgeable about Haleakala and so many stars and constellations. He made sure that our tour had an ideal, not crowded spot for the sunset and stargazing (despite the large crowds in other areas). He provided hot tea, warm jackets, and chairs for viewing, and made sure that each person got a chance to gaze through his telescope while he pointed out constellations and planets. He also had very convenient pickup/drop-off locations. We would definitely recommend it!

The weather was perfect after the typhoon, and with the new moon, it was the best day for stargazing. Thanks to the frequent breaks we took on the way to the summit, I didn't suffer from altitude sickness and was able to fully enjoy the breathtaking views. Being taken to a hidden spot where we could see the stars in a 360° view was incredibly moving, as I could recognize the constellations as they are. The recommendations at the supermarket and the warm tea at the summit showed the wonderful thoughtfulness and character of Yamapi, and I never expected to receive such hospitality abroad. This became my best memory from my trip to Maui. I would love to participate again in a different season. Thank you!

We've been on many excursions during our travels, but this one was by far the most memorable and breathtaking. Yoshi, our guide, was incredibly friendly and professional—one of the best we've ever had. We appreciated the seamless pick-up and drop-off service, and Yoshi made the long ride enjoyable with his great conversation. Since we went up to 3,000 meters, we took breaks along the way, allowing us to ascend at a comfortable pace. I thought this tour would be suitable even for those with weaker legs. I learned a lot about photography and was able to take stunning photos and time-lapses!
I was torn between choosing the sunrise or this tour, but I absolutely recommend this one. Above all, I was touched by the hospitality of our guide, Mr. Yamap, who shared fun stories and even prepared warm drinks for us.

My first time on Maui. I wasn't confident about driving to the summit of Haleakalā on my own, so I booked this tour. In the end, it was definitely the right decision to join this tour. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Yoshi was knowledgeable and a fantastic guide. There are coats and blankets to use once you are at the top. Yoshi sets up chairs, takes pictures, provides hot tea or coffee and donuts, and does just the right amount of talking that provides information without disturbing your time to enjoy the whole experience. A packed dinner is necessary although we made a stop at the Kula Marketplace where food was available to purchase before getting to Haleakala. We are so glad we did this tour!!!

It was a very windy evening and he changed up plans on the fly to get us out of the wind and get us the best stargazing experience he could. I would definitely book a tour with Yoshi again.

The long journey from the hotel to Haleakalā was enjoyable with breaks along the way. We were introduced to various types of poke at Foodland, which we enjoyed after the tour at the hotel. Upon arriving at Haleakalā, I was excited by the magnificent scenery. They set up special seating for us to watch the sunset, and the colors of the sky changed beautifully to orange, blue, and green. I can still remember the gradient of the sky while waiting for the stars to appear as night fell. After a while, the starry sky was breathtaking—so many stars! I was amazed by the stunning view and was moved when they taught us about various constellations using a telescope. It was a great time to see the Southern Cross in the night sky, and capturing photos with the stars was also an emotional experience. I'm creating a memory album. We went to the top of Haleakala with Yoshi, and it was a wonderful experience. We felt safe which was great. I would recommend going with a tour if you're going to go stargazing because the drive down the mountain esp in the dark can be a little daunting....no guardrails between 7,000-10,000 ft, winding roads on side of cliff, with no/very little lights on the sides of the road.
The stars and the sunset were breathtaking!!! We were literally above the clouds. Everything was provided like hot tea, blankets, warm jackets, a telescope and a pair of stand-up binoculars.
Highlight of our trip. We really appreciated the thoughtfulness of our tour guide Yoshi - the donuts for everyone, opportunities for photo taking...Thank you Yoshi!!!

The view was amazing. We were so well taken care of... the guide has been doing this for 20 years and HE made the experience. I would recommend this excursion. It was beyond what we expected!
The sunset through the clouds was what we were waiting to see on Maui! Was unreal!
Had an excellent experience - pickup from our location on the western side of Maui was easy and extremely convenient. The guide, Yoshi, is very friendly and knowledgeable about the island, and a very courteous travel leader. It's a long ride up the mountain, but there are plenty of spots to acclimate to the changes. It gets cold no matter the time of year, but the provided coat and warm drinks will help considerably! Still, safe to bring more warm gear like a hoodie.
The sunset and stargazing part of the tour are breathtaking. It's a truly one of a kind location and expeeience that I can't recommend enough to anyone curious about it.
Our entire family (ages 17 to 55) really enjoyed this tour. Yoshi was a great guide and made sure we enjoyed the experience by providing chairs, warm clothing, blankets, and hot drinks. He also took pictures and gave hints on taking great pictures. Haleakalā is a great experience and is truly another world. You go above the clouds at 10K feet, so you don’t need to worry about visibility, and the star gazing is amazing. Unique and great experience!
Our Star Gazing tour with Yoshi was better then we even expected! His knowledge of the star field was appreciated and he fully explained the stops for altitude acclimation and conditions we could expect at the summit. He also stopped to pick up donuts to share before the sunset viewing.
We initially stopped near the fairly crowded observatory area for picture taking, but he then drove us to a more secluded spot where we were able to enjoy the sunset and nighttime views in almost total isolation.
Though we came prepared with hoodies and midweight jackets, gloves and hot coffee, Yoshi had hot water available for making green tea or other beverages, as well as any additional jackets and blankets if needed.
Yoshi set up a high powered binocular stand and a telescope for viewing several star clusters, and luckily we were also able to see the Southern Cross. Perhaps the best feature, though, was lying on our backs and just looking at the star filled sky, which was an almost transcendental experience.
We had previously driven up Mauna Kea years ago, and being able to relax and enjoy the view on the ascent, rather than having to concentrate on the road, especially on the way down after nightfall was well worth the cost.
Avoid the big Hotel tour groups and book with Maui Allstars for a more personalized trip and I am sure you will not regret it. Apologies that night photo did not have appropriate exposure setting to really display the stars.
