Three years ago, I visited during the day, but this time my wife wanted to enjoy the night view and stargazing, which was beautiful.

The pickup at the hotel in Ka'anapali was at 2:30 PM. The well-known Yamapi from Japanese TV came directly to pick us up and, before heading to the meeting point at the shop, he drove us through the town of Lahaina, introducing the shop and various attractions along the way.

At the meeting point, we joined a family from the south, and the six of us first went to a supermarket to buy takeout sushi packs. We also purchased some bargain bottled snacks for souvenirs, and then we finally drove towards the entrance to Haleakalā.

To prevent altitude sickness, we made three restroom stops along the way. After passing through the entrance checkpoint, our guide Yamapi, who has climbed this mountain countless times, drove safely. About ten minutes before sunset, we parked in a crowded parking lot below the summit, which is used by the tour company, and waited for the sunset while enjoying the view. Gradually, the sun disappeared below the horizon, and even after it had completely set, the pale blue night sky spread out in a fantastical array of colors. Such a vast sky is something you can never see in Japan; it’s a grandeur that can only be experienced here.

After the sun went down, Yamapi truly shined with his stargazing expertise. Having been a member of the astronomy club during his student days, he shared an abundance of knowledge about celestial observations. Other tours might just end with looking at the stars, but we used a GPS telescope to observe various stars and even the craters on the moon. The stargazing concluded with warm tea and warm clothing provided, allowing us to enjoy the chilly summit comfortably.

We returned to the hotel in Ka'anapali just after 10 PM. Thank you so much, Yamapi; we truly enjoyed our night in Maui. The sunset and stargazing tour is dependent on the weather, and we were fortunate tonight. I believe this is a must-do tour when visiting Maui. It was a wonderful experience.

入山チェックのゲートを通過　どれ程の回数登っているか数えきれないほどの回数をこなしたヤマピーガイドが安全に車を走らせます　日の入り10分ほど前にこみあう山頂駐車場の一段した　ツアー会社の面々が使う駐車場＋サンセットポイントに車を停め夕日を眺めながらサンセットを待ちます　やがて太陽がその姿を少しずつ下へと姿を消していきます　完全に陽が落ちたあとも淡いブルーの夜空が幻想的な色合いで広がる広大な姿を見せてくれます　こんな広い空　日本じゃ絶対見られない　ここでしか見れない広大さ　陽が落ちたあとはヤマピーさんの真骨頂　星空観察　学生時代天文部に在籍して数々の知識を身に付けたヤマピーさんがこれでもかと言うほど　天体観察説明をしてくれます　他のツアーではただ星空を眺めるだけできっと終わってしまうでしょう　GPS天体望遠鏡で様々の星を眺め　クレーターの高さまで見て取れる月面も観察して星空観察は終了　暖かいお茶　暖かい防寒着も準備してあり冷え冷えとした山頂でもゆっくり楽しむことが出来ました。

The boat sways quite a bit, so at first, it's hard to walk, but during meal times, we anchor offshore, so you can relax. Moreover, at that time, a manta ray and many dolphins gathered around. I can't remember the name, but there was a singer with the most beautiful voice singing live the whole time, and songs that felt very Hawaiian, which was truly soothing.
There was also a vegan menu, and the buffet was satisfying.

Most of the participants were from the mainland United States, and they were drinking and making a lot of noise, so even when I was trying to talk about history and the land, I couldn't hear it next to me. But overall, it was the best cruising experience. If you can't speak English, it might feel long and confusing as you won't know what's happening.

It was a bit disappointing that the sunset was partially hidden by clouds, but it was still a beautiful view. People who participated in the previous trip said they didn't encounter anything, so we were really lucky on our trip.

When I went to the harbor, there was a large cruise ship docked, and just seeing it made my heart race with excitement. I opted for a simple whale watching plan, but the breakfast buffet also looked delicious.

For the first hour, we couldn't see any whales or even dolphins. The upper deck felt quite shaky, and since we couldn't see any whales, the kids started to feel seasick and were complaining about wanting to go back because they were scared of the rocking (I think motion sickness medication is a must).

I thought we might not see anything today, so I went down to the first-floor deck and relaxed in a chair. Suddenly, we spotted a mother and calf whale off Waikiki Beach! For about 30 minutes, we were able to watch them spout water and leap dramatically out of the water with their tails.

The kids, who had been grumbling, were suddenly thrilled and seemed very satisfied with the cruise. Winter in Hawaii can often be cold for pools and beaches, so I really recommend whale watching!

港に行くと大きなクルーズ船が停泊していて、それを見ただけでも心躍る気分でした。
シンプルなホエールウオッチングだけのプランにしたのですが、朝食ブュッフェも美味しそうでした。
始めの1時間ほどはクジラどころかイルカも見えず。屋上デッキは結構揺れが感じられ、クジラも見えないし子供たちは船酔いしてきたかも…とか、揺れるの怖いから帰りたい…とかグズグズでした（酔い止め薬は必須かと思います）
こちらも今日は見えないのかもと1階デッキまで降りて椅子に座りながらのんびりと過ごしていたら、ワイキキビーチ沖で親子のクジラ発見！30分ほどの時間ゆっくりと何度も潮吹きや尾びれをダイナミックに水上に跳ね上がる姿を見ることができました。
グズグズしていた子供たちも一気に大興奮で大満足のクルーズになったようです。
冬のハワイはプールやビーチも寒い時が多いのでホエールウオッチングは本当にオススメです！

I really liked how this whale watch cruise kept you entertained the whole time. Unfortunately we didn't spot too many whales on the day I went, but the cruise experience itself was still really nice. The lunch buffet was good and fresh. Then they offered activities to do while on board, like hula lessons, lei making, and ukulele lessons, which makes this the perfect cruise for families with little ones. These activities weren't just for kids though, many of the adults were participating too. It was great to be able to roam around the entire boat and getting to see the whales from the top deck, which is a lot higher than any of the other whale watch cruises!

Very Entertaining from Beginning to End

When I got onto the boat the weather didn't seem so nice and I thought it was going to be gloomy but as the boat departed the weather started to clear up and it was blue skies! The view from the boat was amazing. The island looked so beautiful from a far. I've been living here my whole life and I never realized how beautiful it was. The food they provided on the boat was very delicious. If I wasn't so full I would have definitely gone back for more. Sadly, I was not lucky enough to have spotted any whales, however, I did get to see spout a couple of times. Even though I wasn't lucky enough to spot any whales I was still very entertained. The music and activities they provided on the boat was so much fun. I got out of my comfort zone to participate in hula dancing. I was super embarrassed but I still had a lot of fun. I would definitely want to go back again and bring my family on this tour.

From the pickup location, we took a bus to board at Honolulu Harbor, where the captain welcomed us. If you look up a little, you can see other cruise ships and planes in the sky (these are passenger planes from Honolulu Airport). As we departed the resort, we headed towards Waikiki while passing container ships, resort ships, and Coast Guard vessels. Just this alone gives you a feeling of being on a sightseeing cruise.

From here, we went to a point where whales are known to be, waiting for them to surface for air. I didn't know this myself, but whales don't stay at the surface all the time, and they don't go to various places just to be found. We went out to the side of the boat and searched for whales. But don't worry! When a whale appears, they announce it over the loudspeaker in a clockwise direction. It's okay if you're not good at English. People will quickly move to the right or left. Once a whale dives, it won't surface for more than 20 minutes, so even if you see one, you might not see it multiple times. I was lucky enough to see them twice this time. However, there is a law called the 100-yard rule (keeping a distance of over 100 yards from the whales), so you can't see them up close. When I saw them the second time, one happened to surface right next to the boat, making it look huge. (In this case, the rule is to turn off the engine to avoid harming the whale.) You won't necessarily see them every time. It's best to book on a sunny day according to Hawaii's weather forecast.

ザ リゾート 出港すると コンテナ船 リゾート船 コートガードの船見ながら ワイキキ沖を目指します。これだけでも遊覧船気分です。ここからクジラのいるポイントに行き クジラが息継ぎで 海面に現れるをまちます。私自身知らなかったのですが クジラはずっと海面居るわけではなく クジラを追い求めて色々な場所に 行くわけでは ありません。船の側舷に出て ひたすら クジラを探します。でも 心配しないでください。クジラが現れると時計回りの方向を館内放送してくれます。英語が苦手でも大丈夫です。人が一気に右や左に移動します。１度潜ると20分以上 浮上しないため クジラに会えても 何回も見られ訳ではありません。私は今回 2回会えました。ただ 法律で １００ヤードルールがあるらしく(クジラとの距離を100ヤード以上離す)間近で見られ訳ではありません。２回目合えた時 たまたま 船の直ぐ側に浮上したため 大きく見えました。(この場合 クジラを傷つけないようにエンジンを切るのがルールらしい) 毎回 必ず見られる訳ではありません。ハワイの天気予報晴れの日に予約必要です。

As we boarded the boat and set off, we spotted dolphins swimming in the distance. I was excitedly wondering if we would see a whale next! I gazed out at the sea, but it took a while for one to appear. While enjoying a different view of the streets of Waikiki and Diamond Head, we floated on the water... and then, could it be a whale?! I noticed a splash of water rising up. And finally, a whale jumped high out of the water!!

I want to see it again!

Boarding and seating were accomplished efficiently, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our wheelchair bound family member was accommodated.

The buffet appetizer table was disappointing over all. The fruit, pineapple, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon, was almost tasteless. The cheeses were non-spectacular.

Our server was efficient, and he worked very hard to serve multiple tables. The entire wait staff is to be commended for their courtesy, hard work, and good service.

The entertainers were very enthusiastic and tried hard to please the guests. The jazz performances were the best part of the entertainment. The "wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Aloha" was very cheesy.

The drinks were good, and the salad, lobster, and steak were all better than I had expected. The food was quite tasty, and servings were plentiful.

The overall experience was excellent, the people were friendly and the food was great, better than expected and they really fill you up with crab legs. Dislikes were bathroom locations being unclear and during fireworks people are everywhere to see the fireworks on one side of the boat and they smoke cigs in your face at the very top deck, gross.

Four years ago, during stargazing at the summit of Mauna Kea, I was able to see the summit of Haleakalā, and this time I participated in the long-awaited tour. The itinerary was easier than Mauna Kea, and I was able to see the stars beautifully. I am grateful for the meticulous planning by our guide, Yamapi. While the grandeur of the summit cannot compare to Mauna Kea, you can see the shadow of the Earth beautifully at Haleakalā. Maui has diverse nature with mountains, waterfalls, and dry areas, which was fantastic. There were hardly any chatty Chinese or Koreans (including Japanese tourists).

I had never been to Hawaii during whale watching season before, and this was my first attempt at whale watching. I boarded the boat with high expectations, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to see any whales... tears. The morning boat ride was pleasant with the sea breeze, but it's still disappointing not to see anything. We were returning home the next day, so we didn't use it, but I heard that if you don't see any whales, you can receive a free boarding ticket. (Transportation to the boat is separate.) I thought it was nice that they have such care in place.

At the parking lot a little below the summit, we set up chairs to enjoy the starry sky. It was a rare clear night, and I was deeply moved by the breathtaking view of the star-filled sky. However, the last segment of the mountain peak performance was a bit lengthy; while some people were thrilled, others who wanted to head home might have had mixed feelings about it.

While whales are the main attraction, enjoying the view of Waikiki from the sea while feeling the ocean breeze is also a delight.

はじめはクジラが見れるか不安でしたが、いざ海に出てみると潮吹きや海に入る際の尾びれなどを見ることができました。くじらの全体像は見れませんでしたが、ダイナミックな光景を見れたのはよかったです。
また、この日は風も穏やかで海風が気持ちよく、気持ちを洗い流された感じです。
今回は朝食を付けたのですが、出港前にあわただしく取りにいく感じてゆっくり食べた気はしませんでした。このあたりは残念な点でしたが、次回は朝食無しでお願いするつもりです。

I often go to Hawaii during summer vacation, but this time I decided to go in January for the first time, so I participated in a whale watching cruise to see the winter whales. It was a cloudy day with strong winds and high waves, which might be why the whales were not showing up. The captain announced that we would be turning back today, and the boat started to head back.

I was very moved by the sunset and starry sky seen from above the clouds. Our guide, Yamapi, was very kind, knowledgeable, and had an interesting way of talking, which made the journey enjoyable as well. This time, the weather at the summit was good, and I was very lucky to see a nene! I thought I might not have another chance to come to Maui, but this tour made me want to come back to see that scenery again no matter what! Thank you so much, Yamapi!
