During my trip to Hawaii for New Year's, I went on a whale watching tour with the Star of Honolulu. I thought it would be great because even if we didn't see any whales, we could still enjoy it as a regular cruise. We did see a mother and baby whale in the distance, but it was disappointing that we couldn't see them up close or witness any jumps. However, I understand that they keep their distance for whale protection. On the boat, there was a lei-making class, which was fun. It's a good idea to take motion sickness medication beforehand.

I had high expectations while waiting for the hotel pickup, but once the tour began, the enjoyable stories and detailed explanations made the journey to the destination fly by, and before I knew it, we were at the main event: the sunset. The view was breathtaking, far exceeding my expectations. The stargazing afterward was also fantastic. The explanations of the constellations were clear and excellent. The overall itinerary was challenging due to the location, but the tour guide was always attentive to the participants' well-being, which was reassuring. It was a very memorable tour. Thank you very much.

This Home of the Brave tour was absolutely fantastic. We looked at a lot of tours but this one sounded the most interesting. And it certainly out to be so.
From start to finish our brilliant tour guide Olav told us fascinating and riveting information on the Pearl Harbour attack - a lot that we didn't know! He is a mine of information and as a tour guide he was one of the best I've ever been on a tour with. Great easy style, marvellous interesting information, and a good sense of humor. He got everyone organized without any fuss or muss and was fun to be with.
What this man doesn't know about Pearl Harbour - I wouldn't think is much. He had pictures and played big band music, clips, and riveting information on all sorts of levels, fun, factual, historical, the spies, the politics, the battle. Very very good.
I would highly recommend this tour. Nice smallish group - about 20 people and it was easy. Loved this tour. Excellent leader and well worth the money. Thanks
Aloha Meg,
Thank you for joining us on Home of the Brave Tours. Olav has been with our company for many years now. We are so proud to have him be a part of our team. Your positive reviews continue to inspire us to keep doing what we do best - making history come alive. Thank you so much!

This was the first thing my husband and I did on our first trip to Maui--we did it the first full day we were there, and that turned out to be best because we were sort of awake to catch our 2:15 am tour bus (we are from the east coast, and were very early risers the whole trip)
Our guide was very knowledgable about the volcano and surrounding area, and took us on a very nice tour. he even slowed and pointed out a pair of nene for us. On the downside, there were some spots we would have liked to spend more time, but this can't be helped with an organized tour. On our next trip, we'd likely do this on our own, but its smart to take the tour your first time.

The pickup was slightly delayed due to Hawaii time, and the borrowed warm clothing wasn't very clean, but other than that, I was very satisfied.
A highlight was our guide, Yamachan. Initially, a man from Osaka sitting next to me on the bus said, "You were lucky to have Yamachan. I've requested him five times." I thought, "Really?" but it turned out to be true luck.
His commentary on the bus was full of humor and hit all the interesting points, and he even made a stop at a supermarket for those who didn't rent a car. Yamachan even taught me how to choose Kona coffee.
As for the tour itself, the star observation was quite different from other companies. The observation with two large telescopes was great, but Yamachan and another staff member provided plenty of explanations about the constellations with a laser pointer, creating a natural planetarium experience. While other tour buses were heading down the mountain, our tour enjoyed the starry sky for over an hour.
It's not an exaggeration to say I was amazed at how bright the stars were, and even I, with poor dynamic vision, saw shooting stars seven times. I'm really glad I chose Masashi Tour. The bento was delicious too. My husband and I often talk about wanting to go again. I tell all my friends, siblings, and colleagues, "If you go, request Yamachan."
I'm sorry, I wanted to show you the photos, but I couldn't upload them properly.

My husband and I took this tour recently while in Hawaii and it rocked! Our driver was Sam and he was great. Very knowledgable about Hawaii and offered some really interesting tidbits of info. He was laid back, friendly and very engaging. This tour is great because you have the freedom to choose your activities and even traveling in a group you are not forced to select the same options. You can add activities on site which was also a plus. We were dropped in each location for about two hours and were free to eat, wander and otherwise do as we chose. There was a lady in our group that was by herself and she really enjoyed herself as well. Hailewa town was cool to wander around in and my husband even had time to kayak there and join me at the shops. Free water and juice was also a nice bonus. I highly recommend this tour if you are headed to Oahu!

The tour exceeded our expectations, with Wes our informed and humorous bus driver and the amazing guides at various parts of the Pearl Harbor site all contributing to a very positive experience at this awesome harbor. It is an awe inspiring experience to stand at the place where the war commenced for the USA with the horrible loss of precious lives ,and even more spine tingling, standing at the exact spot where the treaty to end the war took place. The experience was enhanced by amazing informative guides and I would strongly recommend this particular tour for anyone going to Pearl Harbor.

My father was stationed in Pearl Harbor for four (4) years commencing one (4) month after the attack. I wanted to at least have a hands on experience as to what he went through and the conditions during that specific timeframe.
Jim was the consummate tour guide. His knowledge of the "inside" and side-bar stories of the Pearl Harbor attack, many focusing on the US Army Air Corps participation, enhanced all of the stops we made: the USS Arizona Memorial, Wheeler Field, Schofield Barracks, Fort Shafter and National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl National Cemetery). These stories fill in the spaces that most of us have in our knowledge of the attack. In fact, I was extremely impressed with Jim’s knowledge in areas that I had not heard and/or read about over the years of conversation with my Mom and Dad and/or studies associated with this part of our history.
I especially enjoyed Jim’s setting the scene at all of the stops. He wants to place you in that place at that

I have long wanted to see the USS Arizona Memorial, as my father and stepfather were both in the armed services during World War II. The tour is given by a sharp US Navy crew and the dignity and remembrance of our gallant fighting men of all armed service branches is preserved. There are always some in the tour group, usually under 30, who haven't a clue as to what the horrors of war are; their actions echo their folly. The Royal Star drivers were knowledgeable and humorous when appropriate. The tour on the USS Missouri was given by Marc and you would've thought he was there as he described the battleship's statistics and history. The reality of what war does to people who are in it, no matter what side they are on, was once again brought home. I am so glad this was arranged by my thoughtful family. It took awhile for me to

This was a great tour. We were able to see a lot of the island. The first part, up to Hana, was beautiful! Our tour guide pointed out places that were historically important, and various Hawaiian plants. He also told us which plants were native to Maui and which were brought over in canoes from other Pacific islands as well as what the plants were used for. Very informative! I would not recommend driving to Hana yourself; the road is narrow - one lane in a lot of places, with hairpin corners, and mostly on the side of the cliff. The drive around the back side of the volcano was not so fabulous. It was a very dry climate there so not as lush and beautiful. We pretty much just drove through that area. Made the tour seem kind of long.

I was debating whether to drive to Haleakalā or join a tour when I found this tour through an internet search.
As someone who is always worried about restrooms, I felt reassured by the fact that the tour started in the afternoon and included plenty of breaks, so I signed up...
Participating in the tour was truly overwhelming in the best way. I completely forgot about my restroom worries and was mesmerized by the crystal-clear sky and the vast Haleakalā crater, which felt like I had arrived on another planet! The moment the sun set was a breathtaking scene that made me feel like I was on some distant star.
After the sun went down, we were told, "You can't look at the sky until I say so," and I held back until I got the go-ahead. The starry sky I saw was absolutely stunning.
I was truly amazed to see how the Milky Way looked! I had learned how to find the North Star in science class, but I had never been able to locate it on my own. However, with a high-tech pointer, they showed me how to find the North Star, and I was finally able to see it with my own eyes, which was incredibly moving.
They showed us various stars and planets through a professional telescope, and it was a day where I could truly experience what I had learned in science class.
The conversations we had while stargazing resonated deeply with my husband and me, who just got married, and I feel certain that these moments will become a source of support for us in the milestones to come.

The luau show was great because I could see various traditional dances☆
Although the seating arrangement doesn't guarantee that you'll get to sit in the front even if you line up early, it seems there's an option to arrange for seats closer to the front for an additional $20.
Since the dances are only performed on stage, sitting closer definitely makes it easier to see. It would be amazing if they could come down from the stage and perform up close at least once...
The event's schedule consists of half luau and dance shows, and the other half is a talk show with the host and performers. I think those who can speak English will enjoy it fully, but since I couldn't understand most of what was being said, I felt like I only enjoyed about half of what I paid for.
The dance portion isn't very long, so I wouldn't particularly recommend it for those who want to see hula or dance shows in depth, but experiencing it in person is a good experience, so it might be nice for first-timers. By the way, the show is dark, so it's difficult to capture footage unless you're using video.

We signed up on our first day in Hawaii, August 22. When we were picked up at the hotel at 3 PM, we were informed of a shocking fact.
"Actually, there’s a wildfire today, and the roads are closed. We might not be able to go to the summit."
What?! I was in shock when they added,
"We will refund everything if you cancel, but since we’re here, I thought we could look for a place to see the stars. The roads might open up soon..."
With that suggestion, everyone in the tour got into the car. Apparently, it’s only once or twice a year that such an accident prevents access to the summit. I can’t believe we hit that low probability...
However, everyone was disappointed that we couldn’t see the sunset and stars from the summit, but our guide Leo was incredibly attentive.
He guided us through beach visits, Waipi'o Valley, and the Honokaa Theater one after another.
Before long, the mood in the car brightened, and we started to enjoy the places he was showing us.
At the drive-in, we were treated to donuts, and in Waipi'o, we had warm miso soup with our bento. He kept in touch to check if the road closures would be lifted and took us as far as possible.
We got out of the car at about 1500 meters and looked at the stars and the moon through a telescope. With the nearly full moon and the starry sky, I felt determined to go to the summit next time! But I also thought, this was fun in its own way.
After nearly six hours of guiding us around, I suddenly realized.
They had said they would refund the fee...
