The manta rays really swirl right in front of you. You can almost touch them if you reach out, and they even bump into your underwater goggles or the camera you’re holding. It was an incredibly thrilling tour. The downside was the language barrier. My husband and I were the only Japanese people there, so we didn’t understand most of the explanations, but it was still manageable. Also, it was quite cold. The ocean at night gets chilly. The people around us didn’t seem to mind as much, so if you’re not sensitive to the cold, you should be fine.

While looking at the voucher at the hotel, I realized I had overlooked the part about confirming by phone at 4 PM. We were supposed to check in at a store in the shopping center at 6 PM and gather at the local port at 6:30 PM. We originally planned to have an early dinner near the shopping center, and since I wasn’t confident in my English skills, I went directly to the store before 4 PM, and they helped me with the check-in process then. For those staying at the Sheraton, you can depart from the port, which is just a short walk from the hotel, so you don’t need a car.

本当にマンタが目の前でぐるぐる回ります。手を伸ばせば触れるくらい、というか、水中メガネや手に持っていたカメラに、マンタからぶつかってくるくらいです。大迫力のツアーでした。難点は英語。日本人は私たち夫婦のみで、説明はほぼ分かりませんでしたが、それでも大丈夫、何とかなります。それと、結構寒いです。夜の海は冷えます。周りの人たちはそうでもなかったので、寒がりじゃなければ大丈夫でしょうか。ホテルでバウチャーを見ていると、16時に電話で確認というのを見落としていましたのに気付きました。18時にショッピングセンターにある店にチェックイン、18時半に現地の港に各自集合となっていましたが、元々ショッピングセンター近くで早めの夕食をとる予定で、電話は英語力に自信がなかったため、直接16時前に店に行き、その時にチェックイン手続きもしてくれました。シェラトンに宿泊している人は、ホテルから歩いてすぐの港から出発しますので車がなくても大丈夫です。

The entire tour was in English, but I managed to get by by observing the people around me. I was a bit nervous because it was more expensive than I had imagined, but once it started, it was so much fun!

Regarding the itinerary, we started with the zip line. Since there wasn't much time to change, it's best to participate in swimwear or clothes that can get wet. We moved on to lunch without a break. Then we went trekking and cave exploring. We ended up waist-deep in water, but this wasn't mentioned by Veltra, so we couldn't go further and had to give up. After that, we headed to the waterfall. The water was cold, but the foreigners were swimming vigorously.

There are no places or time to change during this itinerary, so if you want to participate, I think it's best to prepare accordingly from your hotel.

水は冷たくて、でも、外国のかたはガンガン泳いでました。

この行程ではどこにも着替えの場所や時間がないので、行きたい方はホテルからそれなりの
準備をして行った方がいいと思いますよ。

This is not a Japanese tour, so the guide spoke entirely in English. The staff were friendly, and we had a lot of fun. There seemed to be an explanation about Captain Cook, but we couldn't understand it due to our zero English skills. (laughs) However, I recommend this tour for those who want to see beautiful seas and fish while snorkeling! The sailing was quite slow, allowing us to feel the great outdoors. I wouldn't recommend it for those who are prone to seasickness.

We did not have the best experience, but I think it's based more on our skill level than the tour itself. If you're not in good shape (physically fit) it can be difficult. Make sure you use sunscreen ahead of time. The instructions when we signed up said that you would be provided reef safe sunscreen, however, that was not offered. The rocks are difficult to climb up on and if you don't have proper foot wear you can be easily injured. I think the tour is probably great for more "fit" people... We don't know because we left halfway through. I would stress that there is risk involved in this activity and life jackets are provided but not mandatory (in my opinion should be mandatory).

Guide was informative and friendly. On time performance and tour went well beyond what I thought was included in the days activities. Great to look at the stars through the telescope and have explanation of the skies (for a novice like me). Ride up and back to the summit of Mauna Kea was bumpy at times and a little daunting but not nearly as difficult as some made it out to be. Elevation did not bother me.

I was a bit nervous on my first helicopter ride, but with the guidance of the Japanese pilot, I was able to relax and enjoy the journey through the skies. The time spent flying from the ocean to Waipi'o Valley felt like a transition from reality to a divine world, and I found myself in tears from the beauty of nature. Landing at the base of the waterfall, I was overwhelmed with emotion once again, feeling a deep gratitude for being alive. I have become an even bigger fan of the Big Island of Hawaii. I want to tell my friends that they should experience this at least once in their lifetime! Of course, my children and grandchildren will join me next time.

On the day I participated, there were two groups, making a total of five people: a nice guy as the guide, two Japanese men, and two foreign women. We gathered at the meeting point at 9 AM. The office isn't located on the beach at Keauhou Bay; instead, they transport the kayaks using a pickup truck and trailer. We headed towards a general location, and if we were unsure, there were offices of other activity tour companies nearby where we could show our voucher and kindly ask for directions.

In the program, it seemed that the waves were too high to enter the caves, but on the day I participated, we were able to experience everything without any issues. We even got to dive from a considerable height of cliffs, which made the activity feel incredibly fulfilling.

After the tour, I was invited to lunch, but I had other plans for the afternoon, so I declined. However, I think I would have enjoyed it if I had gone.

When getting out of the water during snorkeling, there were times when the waves pulled us back, causing some scrapes and cuts on the lava rocks. One of my companions actually got a small cut on their finger and foot. I recommend bringing not only marine shoes but also marine gloves.

私が参加した日は2組の参加、ナイスガイのガイドさん、日本人男性2名、外国人女性2名の合計5名のツアーでした。
午前9時に現地集合。ケアウホウ湾のビーチにオフィスがあるわけではなく、ピックアップトラックとトレーラーにカヤックを載せて運んでくるスタイル。だいたいの場所を目指して行き、わからなければ他のアクティビティツアー会社の事務所があるので、バウチャーを見せて聞けば親切に案内していただけました。
番組では、波が高く洞窟には入れなかったようですが、私の参加した日は問題なくすべて体験できました。相当な高さのクリフからもダイブすることが出来、アクティビティのやった感は半端ないです。
ツアー終了後にランチに誘われましたが、午後からの予定を別に組んでいたためお断りしましたが、行っても楽しめただろうな～。
シュノーケリングから岩場に上がる際、波の引き戻しで溶岩の岩場で擦り傷切り傷を負うことがあり、実際に同行者が指と足を少しだけ切りました。マリンシューズだけでなくマリングローブの持参がお勧めです。

However, I was surprised that there was no guide; only the captain was present. The captain signaled from the boat, and I had to make my own judgment and move in that direction. I think this might be tough for first-timers. A guided tour where someone swims with you would definitely be more reassuring. I can speak enough English, so I had no trouble communicating. The captain's English was also easy to understand, so I recommend it for those with snorkeling experience. I was looking forward to snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay, but since we went after swimming with the dolphins, the intensity of the dolphins made the fish feel a bit underwhelming. However, I was lucky to see a whale on the way to Kealakekua Bay.

The experience activity is quite pricey, but in return, you receive thorough lectures, and the satisfaction level is high. Since the age range for Kids Quest is 5 to 9 years, I felt it was the last chance for my child at this age, and I'm glad we participated.

All lectures and instructions are in English, but they explain things clearly with gestures, so even children can understand well.

The Captain Cook monument and the bay right in front of you are truly beautiful, with dense coral and lots of tropical fish! I think this is the best place in Hawaii to see fish clearly. Japanese visitors staying on the Big Island tend to go to other tourist spots, and there are usually only Westerners participating in the snorkeling tours, but I really hope everyone can experience this beautiful underwater world. It was a thoroughly satisfying snorkeling experience!

前回は自分の道具を持って行ったのですが、今回はマスク、フィンはレンタルをしました。私が何となくの理解で返事をしていたのが悪かったのですが、イルカを見つけても、追ってはいけない、触ってはいけない、浮き具につかまって見るだけ、フィンをばたばたさせない、など説明は聞き取れていたように思ったのですが、いざ海に入ってみると、「quickly！」と責め立てられ、一生懸命イルカのほうに向かっていったのですが、挙句の果てには「あなたはカメね」といわれ、ヘロヘロになってしまいました。ですが、最後にはたくさんのイルカと泳ぐことができ、帰りのボートではフルーツのサービスや、ラバチューブなど車では見れないようなところも案内してくれました。ケアラケクア湾でのシュノーケリングはたくさんの人がいましたが、透明度の高い海で魚もたくさんおり、満足のいくものでした。前回は日本語ガイドでしたが人数も多く、かなりワチャワチャしてましたが、今回は二人だけだったので、ドルフィンスイムも満喫できました。
今回の学びとしては、
・送迎なしの場合、駐車場の有無は確認すべき。
・経験があっても、英語ガイドで何となくの理解で返事をしてはいけない。
・シュノ―ケラーは自分の道具をもっていくべし。
当たり前のことではありますが、2回目の参加ということで、甘く考えてたところもありました。参加の際にはお気を付けくださいませ。

My first experience with a submarine in Hawaii was fantastic. We got close to a shipwreck and enjoyed the seabed at about 30 meters deep. The bright smiles of the staff were also very comforting.

Overall, a beautiful adventure on the ocean. A few comments:

1 - waiting area prior to launching kayaks is full of mosquitoes and my children received many bites
2 - if you are not with a partner and have to go in a single kayak vs. tandem, know this is extra work as simply you don't have 4 arms paddling :-)
3 - the resting spot before heading back to the boat dock requires you to "climb" up a volcanic rock to have your snack/water - make sure you have proper water/outdoor shoes on as you will need that traction to climb up and then walk amongst the rocks; this applies to attire as well as my girls had bikini bottoms on and it was difficult to sit on the rocks with just their bikini bottoms and no towels etc (we did not know we would be stopping at that rock nor climbing up it so hence did not bring anything)
4 - this adventure is going up and back from the boat dock vs. being picked up after a one way paddle

I participated with my two high school daughters as a family of four. Although it was a group lesson, it turned out to be just our family since there were only four of us. We met on-site, and since we were staying in Keauhou, it was convenient to have both the beach and the office nearby.

First, we went to the office at 8:00 for an explanation and some preliminary practice, and then we made our way to the beach on our own. The beach was about a five-minute walk from the office. When we arrived, two instructors were waiting for us, and they taught the four of us. We took turns surfing in pairs, while the others rested by holding onto a float. The friendly lady who explained everything and the two instructors mentioned they were siblings or cousins and that they were doing this as a family.

Everything was in English, but we had no problem participating. I think their names were Jacob, John, and Tiffany. They were very friendly and cheerful. My daughters seemed to have so much fun that they even expressed a desire to surf again.

娘たちもサーフィン欲しいと言い出すくらい楽しかったようです。

Crew was super friendly and organized. Boat had nice restrooms and was very easy to get in and out of water. Not huge amount of fish but relatively easy snorkel experience. Crew gave short history lesson of the area and Captain Cook. Snacks were chips and fresh fruit.

I previously experienced a luau at Hilton Hawaiian Village. There isn't much difference in the size of the seating or the stage. The performances and proceedings are similar, and the announcements are only in English, which made the excitement among the few Japanese travelers, including myself, somewhat lacking.

This time, my spouse and I used the premium seats, located in the second row from the front center of the stage (my wife's head is in the photo), while I was in the third row. These seats are right up close and provide an impressive view. After check-in, we were welcomed with leis and were guided to our seats, where we picked up our favorite drinks along the way. I went with a Mai Tai again this time. At the long table, about six people share taro chips, edamame, and jerky, allowing us to enjoy some time before the meal began. Additionally, this seating includes butler service (they frequently take drink orders), and drinks are all-you-can-drink, including alcohol. I ordered four cocktails, including Blue Hawaii, using a photo menu with Japanese explanations on the table. The glasses are large. The buffet food is also satisfying, on par with what you would find in Honolulu. The desserts here are especially recommended; the variety, taste, and presentation were all excellent. However, my stomach was already at capacity...

The premium seats are more expensive compared to general seating, but if you're going all the way to Hawaii Island to see a luau, it's definitely worth the splurge.
