We went to Umauma Falls Zipline last week and had a blast! Although it nearly rained the entire time, the crew were nothing but the best! Always laughing, making us laugh, and allowing us enjoy the amazing beauty of the falls. You have to do the 9-line to get the best experience! Definitely recommend for anyone on the Hilo side!

We participated as a family of four. Our family was the only group on the tour, and we had one female guide with us. After preparing the saddles, we received instructions on how to ride and handle the horses. Everything was in English, but as long as you closely follow the guide's movements, you'll be fine! The handling instructions were just four basic commands: "go," "stop," "right," and "left," so it wasn't difficult.

And finally, we set off! Along the way, we even challenged ourselves to a canter while climbing up the vast ranch towards the mountains, and when we looked back, the stunning view of the Kohala Coast came into sight. It was a wonderful view, and I'm sure you can enjoy a refreshing feeling.

All the horses are well-trained and safe, but each horse has its own personality. The horse I rode seemed to dislike mud and chose to walk on dry ground, even if it meant staying away from the other horses. In contrast, the horse my wife rode seemed to love water and splashed right into the puddles. While we experienced a bit of the difficulty in controlling the horses, it was a fun time. I highly recommend that everyone try this experience!

[Additional Note]
The wind from the mountains felt cold, so even if it's sunny, I think it's better to borrow a jacket. Also, the horses will walk through puddles and muddy areas, so your shoes might get wet or dirty, so it's advisable to borrow boots as well. Both are available for free.

家族4人で参加しました。ツアー参加者は私たち家族のみ。ガイド役の女性が一人付いてくれました。鞍の装着などの準備が整い、次に馬の乗り方や扱い方の説明を受けました。全て英語ですが、ガイドさんの動きをよく見てその通りにすれば大丈夫！　馬の扱い方といっても『進め』『止まれ』『右に』『左に』という４つの基本的な動きの伝え方だけなので難しくありませんでした。
そしていよいよ出発です。途中、駆け足にも挑戦しながら広大な牧場を山の方に向かってどんどん登っていき、振り返るとコハラコーストの絶景が目に飛び込んできました。素晴らしい眺めです。爽快な気分が味わえるはずです。
どの馬もよく調教されていて危なくはありませんが、各々の馬に個性があります。私が乗った馬は「ぬかるみ」が嫌いらしく、他の馬から離れてでも乾いたところを選んで歩きました。と思えば妻が乗った馬は水に入るのが好きなようで水たまりにジャブジャブと入ります。思い通りに動かす難しさを少々味わいながらも楽しい時間でした。皆さんもぜひ体験してください！

【追記】
山からの風は冷たく感じましたので晴れていてもジャケットは借りたほうがいいと思います。また、水たまりやぬかるんだところを馬が進みます。靴が濡れたり汚れたりすることもあるかもしれませんのでブーツも借りたほうがいいと思います。いずれも無料でお借りできます。

The summit of Mauna Kea was cold at minus 2 degrees with strong winds, and I didn't have the luxury to take photos. I experienced mild altitude sickness and felt a bit unsteady, followed by a headache later, but I was able to enjoy the experience until the end. (There were three portable toilets at the summit, but no tissues.)

By the way, the stars were amazing!! I will never forget this experience and will definitely participate again.

Lastly, the miso soup in the bento was incredibly delicious. I bought stickers and playing cards as souvenirs at the Onizuka Visitor Center. Thank you for your hospitality. Thank you very much.

マウナケア山頂はマイナス2度の強風で寒くて写真を撮りたくてもそんな余裕がありませんでした。軽い高山病か足元ふらふらで後から頭痛がしてきましたが無事に最後までたのしく終わる事が出来ました。(山頂には簡易トイレが3つありました。ティッシュ無し。)
ちなみに星が凄い!!一生忘れる事はないでしょうまた必ず参加します。

最後にお弁当のお味噌汁が凄い美味しかったです。自分のお土産にオニヅカビジターセンターでスッテカーとトランプを買いました。

We enjoyed it a lot. We wish we had gone earlier in our trip so we would’ve had the opportunity to build other activities around what we saw on this trip. James runs this business on his own and he does a lot of research and individualizes each trip to the current conditions of the atmosphere and weather. The photos he took of us were amazing. I could see couples booking this for engagement, honeymoon or anniversary photos. The star gazing was the highlight. We see stars from our house very well but it doesn’t even compare to the clarity of the sky at that altitude. I would definitely recommend this excursion.

I was initially anxious about going to a mountain higher than Mount Fuji, but gradually acclimating my body and the fun guidance from Shin made it possible for me to reach the summit safely. At the top, I experienced the sun sinking into the clouds, the gradient after sunset, and a series of first-time experiences. After the sunset, we went stargazing at a location chosen based on the outside temperature and the night sky conditions. The moment I got out of the van, countless stars welcomed me. It was completely different from any night sky I had seen before. It was extremely cold, but the experience was so incredible that I forgot about the chill. Additionally, the photos taken by the guides are available for free download, which is great for capturing those challenging night sky shots. The miso soup in the bento was absolutely delicious!

Let me start off by saying I had a pretty low expectation for the meals when I saw they were included. The food was really great—chef made lunch and delicious beef ribs at dinner. I’m still dreaming about them. That alone provides so much value for the price.

Now, onto the tour—Keith was an amazing tour guide! He started off by learning and continually speaking to each of us individually by name. He had the greatest stories at AND between each tour stop. We really enjoyed the tour from start to finish and almost forgot how long of a day it was! And for the stargazing, we lucked out with a beautiful clear sky and Keith was knowledgeable about not only the stars we were seeing, but so much beyond that!

I was able to go to Mauna Kea at the best timing right after the new moon. I felt nature with my whole body, absorbed its power, and it became a wonderful start to 2019. The talk by our guide Matsuzaki, which added a special touch to the memories, was also fantastic. The tour was very well organized, with miso soup included with the bento and a jacket provided... I highly recommend it.

It was a great day with favorable conditions, not just in terms of the weather, but also the sunset and moonrise times. We participated as two men who came for work, but I believe it would be perfect for couples or partners. As for concerns about altitude sickness, since we drove to the summit and took our time to acclimatize, I felt a bit uncomfortable when we descended, but moving slowly was not a problem. Next time, I would like to participate with my family. I think it would be even better if it were a little cheaper (laughs).

The sunset at the summit of Mauna Kea was truly wonderful with the changing colors of the setting sun. Additionally, during the stargazing, I was moved to see the Milky Way, numerous stars, and even artificial satellites flying by. This year, I was also able to take a photo of the lava from Kilauea volcano reflecting red in the clouds, which was fantastic. If you visit the Big Island, I definitely recommend stargazing.

Four years ago, I went to the summit of Mauna Kea, but due to bad weather, I could only make it to the Onizuka Visitor Center. I had visited the Big Island several times, but this was my first opportunity to go to the summit of Mauna Kea. While it was possible to get to ONIZUKA on our own, it was not feasible to drive to the summit with a rental car (though I heard some people do manage to get in...). Given the concerns about driving on Saddle Road at night, we decided to book a tour.

Since we were staying at Mauna Lani, the tour bus picked us up last. We spent the morning playing at the beach, and the pickup came around 3:45 PM. It was very convenient that they came right to the parking lot of our accommodation. They informed us in advance to avoid alcohol for six hours to prevent altitude sickness and also contacted us about renting warm clothing.

Unfortunately, it was raining when we reached ONIZUKA, so based on the tour guide's judgment, we had our lunch (a bento-style meal with warm miso soup) in the vehicle and hurried to the summit. Fortunately, the summit was clear, and we were able to enjoy the sunset slowly. I was glad we didn’t take our time eating lunch. It was impressive! After that, we descended (there's a rule that you must leave the park after the sunset) and observed the starry sky. There was also warm tea and cookies available. They took many photos for us (no extra charge), and we were very satisfied. The night sky photos that I couldn't capture with my own camera were a highlight. It was a thoroughly enjoyable tour.

I had brought my own warm clothing, but it was really cold, so I was grateful to be able to borrow some. The road to the summit is quite bumpy, and the return trip on Saddle Road is pitch dark. I truly felt it was a good decision to join the tour.

I have also participated in a sunrise tour on Maui, but it was physically demanding, so I recommend the sunset tour. If you have the time, a sunrise tour could be fine, but you will be extremely sleepy afterward.

ONIZUKAまで行くとあいにくの雨、ツアーの方の判断で車内でお弁当をいただき（幕ノ内的なものと温かいお味噌汁）急ぎ山頂へ
山頂が晴れていたので、ゆっくりサンセットを楽しむ事ができました
のんびりお弁当食べていなくてよかった
さすがです！
それから、下山（サンセット終わると公園を出ないといけない決まりです）し、星空を観測。温かい紅茶とクッキーもありました
たくさん写真もとっていただき（別途料金不要）大満足でした
自分のカメラでは撮影できない夜空の写真
大満足のツアーでした

防寒着も持参していましたが、本当に寒いのでお借りできたこと
また、山頂までの道がかなり揺れます。そして帰りのサドルロードが真っ暗です。本当にツアーに参加してよかったと思います。

サンライズツアーもマウイ島で参加した事がありますが、体力的にもきついのでサンセットをお勧めいたします。
時間がある方はサンライズでも構わないと思いますが、ツアー後眠くてたまりません。

It was very sunny on the day, and I think we were lucky. Our driver and guide, Jin, was knowledgeable about Hawaii and the stars, providing various explanations. Honestly, before going, I was worried about altitude sickness and hesitated. But I'm glad I went! On December 30, we participated as a family of four. Two of us are children aged 9 and 11.
It was almost our first time riding horses, but the horses were well-trained, so we had no worries.
We took a walk in the valley floor of Waipi'o Valley, swaying on the backs of the horses. It was a place filled with rich water and greenery, exuding tranquility.

- We traveled to and from the valley floor by 4WD from the meeting point. This took quite a bit of time. The approximate schedule was: gather at 1:30 PM, move to the valley floor, start horseback riding at 2:15 PM, finish riding at 3:45 PM, and disperse at the meeting point at 4:15 PM.
- We were the only Japanese participants; everyone else was from the mainland United States.
- We planned to rent a car to get to the meeting point, but when we tried to make a reservation at the hotel after arriving on the Big Island, we were told there were no rental cars available until January 3.
We had no choice but to use a round-trip taxi, which cost over $400 from Kailua-Kona. We should have reserved a rental car from Japan.

Super friendly staff and we had a wonderful time! Would recommend to anyone and everyone and would definitely go back when I have the chance! Despite the fact that it was raining the day we went (which actually made the experience more exhilarating, as the rain made us go even faster than normal) , the views were still incredible. The staff was patient and their energy made the experience more fun for everyone. By the end of the zipline I was ready to do it all over again!

The horseback riding in the jungle at the bottom of the valley, which would be very difficult for us to visit on our own, was amazing. The horses were all very gentle and listened well. There were plenty of wild fruits, and we splashed around in the river, making it a unique and enjoyable horseback riding experience.

自分たちではとても訪れるのは大変だろうという谷底のジャングルでの乗馬は最高でした。
馬はとてもみな大人しく、言うこともとてもよくきいてくれました。野生の果物もたくさんあり、川の中もじゃぶじゃぶ入っていき、ちょっと他ではない乗馬でなかなか良かったです。
