Mauna Kea Summit Adventures Sunset & Stargazing Guided Tour with Transportation

Highlight of my Big Island trip. Must do!

This Mauana Kea summit and stargazing tour was phenomenal. The first stop is at the visitor center around 9k feet elevation. Here you can look through a couple telescopes, walk through the museum, and you will be served your hot dinner (we had veggie lasagna and it was good). While you are here it is good to eat and drink alot of water so your body can acclimate to the higher altitudes ahead. Next stop is the summit up to almost 14k feet! The Vans they take up are heavy duty and they need to be because of the rocky road leading up the mountain. I would not reccomend taking a rental/personal vehicle up this mountain. The road is rocky, thin, and windy. The guides for this tour have been doing it for years and know the road well. On the way up the guides will give you some commentary about the mountain which is a cool little history lesson. At the top it is cold and the oxygen is thin, so be ready! They provide you with a winter coat and gloves but I recommend bringing your own hat. The views from the summit are outstanding. Watching the sun set from up there is really remarkable, and you can walk around to the 12 massive telescopes up there to take pictures. After the summit you will descend a couple thousand feet to the star gazing location. With no light pollution and at the high altitude it provides for the star gazing experience of a lifetime. I have never seen the sky lit up so brightly with constellations. The guides will break out a couple of heavy duty telescopes from the vans so you can get an even closer look. They will educate you about the constellations and give alot of really good information. Overall this is an impeccable tour and a must do if you are going to the Big Island!

On February 4th, my partner and I participated in the "Mauna Kea Summit Sunset & Stargazing Tour." During the journey, Mauna Kea was covered in clouds, and we were worried that we might not be able to see the sunset or the stars. However, since the summit is above the clouds, we were able to witness a stunning sea of clouds and a beautiful sunset. It was a truly magical moment.

Unfortunately, due to the bright moonlight, we couldn't observe as many stars as we had hoped, but thanks to our guide's clear explanations, we were able to see many constellations that we wouldn't normally see. If I have the opportunity to visit the Big Island again, I would definitely like to join this tour and experience a sky full of stars next time.

Since it was my first experience going to a high altitude, I was worried about getting altitude sickness, but with the guide's appropriate advice and consideration, both of us were able to enjoy the tour without any health issues. I highly recommend this tour for older adults as well.

道中マウナケアには雲がかかっており、もしかしたらサンセットも星空も見られないのでは⁉と不安になりましたが、山頂はその雲の上に位置するため、マウナケア山頂では素晴らしい雲海とそこに沈んでいく美しい夕日を見ることができました。とても幻想的な瞬間でした。
あいにく月明かりが明るかったため、期待していたほどの星空観測はできませんでしたが、ガイドさんの分かりやすい説明のおかげで普段見ることのできない星座をたくさん観測することができました。
またハワイ島に行く機会があれば、是非ともこのツアーに参加して、今度こそ満天の星空を体験してみたいと思います。
標高の高いところに行くのは初めての体験だったので、高山病にかかってしまうのではないかなど不安はありましたが、ガイドさんの適切なアドバイスと配慮により、2人とも体調を崩すことなく、最後まで楽しく過ごすことができました。年配の方にもおすすめします。

I once experienced altitude sickness while climbing a mountain, so I was a bit worried, but thanks to acclimatization, I was able to enjoy the sunset in perfect condition without any health issues.

The sunset above the clouds, with a blanket of snow in Hawaii, was truly beautiful and left me speechless with emotion. Watching the starry sky while receiving explanations made it even more enjoyable and sparked my imagination.

Above all, it was a magnificent starry sky. I was very satisfied with the tour, especially since I got to take many photos with the stars that I couldn't capture myself.

(I was quietly moved by the star-themed music selection in the car on the way back.) I would love to participate again in the summer. Thank you very much.

On February 1st, two women in their 60s participated in the "Mauna Kea Summit Sunset and Stargazing Tour." We were picked up at the hotel at 1 PM, and the weather was unstable that day. According to our guide, it was raining at the Onizuka Center, so we quickly had dinner at Mauna Kea Park. It was still just after 4 PM, and we weren't very hungry, but the Japanese-style bento and warm miso soup after several days were so delicious that we finished them quickly. We appreciated the thoughtful gesture of providing towels for everyone to sit on the park benches. As we drove up, feeling anxious about whether we would make it to the top, the rain stopped, and the sun peeked out, as if our prayers were answered. It turned out that the gate closed right after we passed through. We were lucky.

At the summit, there was a lot of snow, and the wind was very strong, but the view of the sea of clouds and the sunset from 4,200 meters felt like being in another world, making us forget the cold as we were captivated by the scenery. I heard that snow on Mauna Kea is only present at this time of year, which filled my heart with emotion. I was a bit worried about altitude sickness, but by following the guide's instruction not to run, all 11 participants that day were in good spirits. The temperature dropped, and due to road freezing, unfortunately, we had to go down to 2,800 meters for stargazing. Even though I borrowed ski wear, my fingers were numb at 4,200 meters, but I didn't feel cold once we descended to 2,800 meters. We were shown Venus and a crescent moon through a telescope, and then Mr. Ichikawa gave a stargazing presentation. Using an excellent laser pointer that clearly indicated stars and constellations in all directions, he taught us in a very easy-to-understand and enjoyable way. I was amazed by Mr. Ichikawa's depth of knowledge about stars. I was delighted to see Orion's sword clearly, which is not often visible in Japan. I heard that the Southern Cross can also be seen at midnight. It was a very satisfying tour, and I’m really glad I participated. If you go to the Big Island, I highly recommend Mauna Kea.

I participated in this tour on January 26, 2020. Although it was cloudy at the start, the clouds cleared at the summit, and we were blessed with good weather. The view from the highest point of my life, with the snowy mountains, blue sky, and sea of clouds, was amazing, and the sunset gradually sinking was the best. The stargazing afterward was also impressive, as it was only a few days past the new moon, allowing us to clearly see the Milky Way and satellites. I couldn't capture the night sky well with my own camera, but there was a service to download photos taken by the guide, which allowed me to feel moved again when I viewed them later.

Additionally, our guide, Tomo, helped us secure good spots by acting promptly and reminded participants to take deep breaths and move slowly, which allowed us to enjoy the experience without suffering from altitude sickness. The explanations included not only the scenery and stars but also various stories about life in Hawaii, making it a truly wonderful half-day experience. I look forward to visiting Hawaii again!

また、ガイドのトモさんが、早め早めの行動をする事で良い場所が取れたり、参加者には深呼吸やゆっくり動く事を何度も注意して下さったお陰で高山病になる事もなく楽しめました。説明も、景色や星の説明だけでなく、ハワイの生活についての色々な話しもして下さり、とても素晴らしい半日となりました。またハワイに行く時は宜しくお願いします！

This is one of the best horseback riding experiences my boyfriend and I have ever had! The instructions on how to get to the location were very well written out so it was a breeze to find! Our instructors were fantastic! They are the type of people who love what they do and are incredibly passionate and it shows! We were very excited, so it was great to have the energy matched! The ride was absolutely breathtaking! The high mountains that surround the area are a wonderful sight to take in, great for photo ops as well. All of the horses are well behaved and a joy to be around. When we find ourselves back in the area we will definitely be stopping by again. If you tend to get carsick, you may want to take some motion sickness medication before the drive down to the valley. Its quite bumpy but totally worth it!

The road to the summit of Mauna Kea suddenly opened at the end of last year, giving us another chance to visit the summit. We never know when it might close again, so don't miss this opportunity! I absolutely recommend it!

The summit still has snow. What you see in the foreground is snow, and beyond that is the sea of clouds. The sun sinking into the sea of clouds at sunset is an indescribable experience. I felt the vastness of the Earth and its vitality. The guide takes wonderful sunset photos for you.

And then there's stargazing at the base of the mountain. Here too, the guide takes fantastic photos with the starry sky as the backdrop. They even show you the moon through a telescope, and you can see the craters clearly✨

The conversation is enjoyable, and the guide's photography skills are excellent. This was my second time participating, and each time the satisfaction is 200%.

The summit of Mauna Kea is a special sacred place for the locals. I highly recommend it to everyone!!

It was great to have a small group of seven participants. My husband, who doesn't speak English, said the English guide was easy to understand.

Crossing the river while looking at Waipi'o Valley and slowly riding on horseback through the great outdoors was the best!

Also, the bumpy and steep road from the meeting point to the horseback riding location felt like an attraction and was fun.

I highly recommend it!!

The meeting place was easy to find with the navigation guidance. It wasn't too difficult to locate. When I arrived 15 minutes early, one group had already completed their check-in. After that, we gathered for a tour of 12 people. There were two Japanese, including my wife. We traveled by 4WD to Waipi'o Valley, but the path down to the valley from the viewpoint was steep and narrow. Although there was a fence on the valley side, there was a risk of a serious accident if the driving went wrong. The elderly man sitting behind the driver was holding his head while the driver explained things. It was a bit scary. Once we descended into the valley, the view of Hi'ilawe Falls and the canyon from the bottom was breathtaking. After about 30 minutes, we arrived at the location with the stables, and the horseback riding tour began. We received an English lecture on how to ride a horse, and each person was assigned a horse. The horse commands were given through the reins, but I managed to understand. Finally, the tour began. The horses were well-trained and moved in a line. My wife, who was riding for the first time, had some trouble when the horse stopped to drink water while crossing a river, but the staff assisted her. Riding through the greenery of the valley and along the stream was refreshing and an extraordinary experience. The horseback riding experience lasted about an hour. After getting off the horse, my knees hurt, but my wife said she felt fine. I had riding experience 50 years ago, but even beginners should have no problem riding. I highly recommend it.

集合場所は、ナビの案内で行けました。そんなに判りにくくはありません。集合時間１５分前に着いたら１組が受付を済ませていました。その後、集まり１２名のツアーでした。日本人は妻と２名。４駆でワイピオ渓谷まで移動しましたが、展望台から下の渓谷に降りる路は傾斜がきつく且つ路幅も狭く谷側にフェンスはあるものの、運転を間違えれば崖下へ落下の大事故になるリスクがあります。運転席後ろの席の年配おじさんは、後ろを見て解説する運転手に頭をかかえていました。少し怖いです。渓谷に降り、谷底から見るヒイラヴェ滝と渓谷は絶景です。約３０分で厩舎のある場所に到着し、乗馬ツアー開始です。馬の乗り方について英語でレクチャーがあり、１人１人に馬をあてがわれます。馬の指示は手綱で行いますが、なんとか判りました。いよいよツアーです。馬もよく調教されていて、連なって進みます。乗馬初めての妻は河を渡る時、馬が水を飲み始め止まって困っていましたが、スタッフのフォローでことなし。渓谷の緑と渓流の中を馬で連なって進むのは気持ちよく、非日常の体験でした。１時間ほどの乗馬体験です。馬から降りたら膝が痛かった。妻はなんともないと言ってました。私は５０年前に乗馬経験がありましたが、未経験者でも問題なく乗れるでしょう。おすすめです。

On January 29, my spouse and I participated in the Mauna Kea Summit Sunset & Stargazing Tour. It was our first time on the Big Island, and Mauna Kea was a place we definitely wanted to visit. The tour started with a pickup at 1:45 PM from our accommodation at Kings Land! Our guide, Masa, was kind and explained everything thoroughly, which made us feel at ease during the tour. The warm miso soup and bento we had at the Onizuka Center were very delicious. The choice of music to prevent drowsiness during the altitude sickness measures was excellent! We were energized and had no drowsiness as we reached the summit! We were blessed with good weather, and the sunset from the top was incredibly romantic, allowing us to truly feel the grandeur of the Big Island! The starry sky, which felt like we could reach out and touch it, was beautiful and left us in awe. Masa's explanations about the stars opened up a world we had never known before, doubling our excitement! The photo service provided by our guide captured moments we couldn't have taken ourselves, and we got many shots in our desired poses. Downloading those photos brought us even more joy! This tour to Mauna Kea is highly recommended!

1/29 マウナケア山頂 サンセット&星空観測ツアーに夫婦で参加しました。初めてのハワイ島、マウナケアは是非行ってみたい場所でした。宿泊しているキングスランドへ13:45ピックアップでツアースタート！ガイドのマサさんは親切丁寧に説明してくれ不安なくツアーに参加できました。途中オニツカセンターでいただいた温かいお味噌汁とお弁当とても美味しくいただきました。その後の高山病対策にて眠気を防ぐ音楽のチョイスは最高！ノリノリで眠気一切なく頂上へ！お天気にも恵まれ、山頂からの夕日はとてもロマンチックでハワイ島の壮大さを実感！手を伸ばせば届きそうな星空も綺麗で感動の連続でした。マサさんの星の説明は今まで知らなかった世界へ知ることができ感動も2倍！ガイドさんが撮影してくれるフォトサービスは自分では撮れない写真ばかりで希望のポーズもいっぱい撮影してもらいダウンロードしてみて再度感動です！マウナケアへは一押しのツアーです！

The best tour that moves both adults and children. 大人でも子供でも感動する最高のツアー

We participated as a couple on January 19th. Our guide, Jin, was very friendly and knowledgeable. After being picked up from the hotel, we took a break and had dinner around 4:00 PM at the foot of the mountain (outdoors). The weather was relatively nice, but it felt a bit cold at that point.

The road to the summit was not well maintained, and the car shook quite a bit. It’s better to take motion sickness medication beforehand. After arriving at the summit, we took photos while watching the sunset. I participated wearing Heattech, a T-shirt, a windbreaker, and long pants, and I borrowed a down jacket and pants, which made the temperature feel just right. However, my feet got quite cold. I only wore one pair of socks, and my toes started to hurt. I regretted not wearing two pairs of socks... (Having foot warmers would have been even better.)

Around 7 PM, we did some stargazing. The night sky was overwhelmingly beautiful compared to what I’ve seen in Japan. The explanations about the stars were very detailed, and even as adults, we were satisfied with the content. After that, we descended and were taken back to the hotel after 10 PM. It was a wonderful tour that allowed us to learn more about Hawaii.

アテンドしてくれる仁さんはとってもフレンドリーで物知りな素敵な方でした。
ホテルピックアップ後に休憩を挟み、１６：００頃に山の麓（屋外）での夕食を取りました。比較的良いお天気でしたがこの時点で少し寒さを感じました。
その後、山頂までの道は補装されておらずかなり車が揺れます。
酔い止めは飲んで行った方がベターです。
山頂に到着後はサンセットを見ながら撮影しました。
当方、ヒートテック・Tシャツ・ウィンドブレーカー・長ズボン１枚で参加し、ダウン・ズボンをお借りし体感温度は丁度良かったです。
しかし、足元がかなり冷えます。靴下１枚だけしか履いておらず指先が痛くなりました。靴下２枚履いてくれば良かった。。。と反省。（足元カイロがあれば尚よしと言った感じです）
そして１９時頃天体観測をしました。
日本で見る星空よりも圧倒的な綺麗さでした。
かなり詳しく星の説明をしてくださり、大人の私達でも満足できるような内容でした。
その後下山し２２時過ぎにホテルへ送っていただきました。
ハワイの事をより知れた素敵なツアーでした。

My first trip to the Big Island was with my husband, and since we rented a car, we initially thought about going on our own, but I'm so glad we chose a tour instead!!

There are many unpaved roads leading to the summit, making it dangerous for regular passenger cars (it seems the rental car insurance doesn't cover it...), and vehicle access is restricted, so the time to leisurely watch the starry sky is limited to the tour only.

So, we went on the tour with about 10 other people, and our guide, Tomo, was very entertaining and informative! We also had a great time with everyone else, making it a wonderful memory for us, who usually travel just the two of us!

At the summit, we were able to witness a breathtaking sunset, and after the sun went down, the sky was filled with an incredible number of stars!! The explanations about the stars were also very interesting, and I think I’ll start studying astronomy from now on!!

What I especially appreciated about this tour was that the photos taken with a professional DSLR camera are available for free download!!! They took beautiful pictures of the starry sky and sunset that you can't capture with an iPhone, in various locations! It became a great memory!

Also, they provide warm clothing, so it doesn't add to your luggage! The summit is very cold, and it was a relief to borrow a proper down jacket and pants!

I highly recommend this tour when visiting the Big Island!!!

初めてのハワイ島旅行は主人とレンタカーを借りていたので、当初は自分たちで行こうかと思っていたのですが、ツアーにして本当に良かったです！！

山頂までは舗装されていない道が多い為通常の乗用車では危険(レンタカーの保険に適用されないそう・・・)、かつ車両を規制されているそうで、星空をのんびり見る時間はツアーのみに限られているそうです。

そんなわけで約10名の皆様でツアーを回ったのですが、スタッフのともさんのお話はとても面白く情報量も豊か！そして一緒に回った皆様とも楽しく過ごせ、2人だけで旅行してきた私たちにとても素敵な思い出となりました！

山頂では感動のサンセットを見ることが出来、日が沈んでからは圧巻の満点の星空！！こちらも星の解説がとても面白く、これからは星を勉強してみようと思います！！

I traveled for an hour and a half from Kona. It was my first time horseback riding, and I don't understand much English, but I chose this experience because I read that important points would be explained in Japanese as well.

The guide was friendly, and since we could bring our dog along, it was a comforting experience for our dog-loving family!

I wanted to feel the air of Waipi'o Valley, so the leisurely horseback riding time was the best. I thought it would have been even better if I had understood the explanations more clearly.

Some of the horses were a bit energetic, but it seemed like they assigned them based on the riders' experience levels.

I have been to Hawaii many times, but Mauna Kea was a distant place for me. It turned out to be the best experience. The guide was kind and explained everything well, allowing us to enjoy without any worries. I was very happy to have warm drinks and rice ball bento at the chilly Onizuka Center. The sunset from the summit was very romantic, and it made me appreciate the size of the Big Island again. The starry sky after sunset was also incredibly beautiful, and it was a series of moving moments. I was very grateful that they took photos with a high-performance camera, and I could download those pictures after returning home. I couldn't have taken them myself... We were picked up in front of our hotel at 2:15 PM. During the drive to Mauna Kea, we learned a lot about Hawaii Island.

We took several breaks along the way and had an early meal around 4 PM. It was a relaxing experience to enjoy Japanese food after a long time, including rice, simmered dishes, and fried fish, as we headed towards the summit.

We were advised that deep breathing and staying hydrated are effective for preventing altitude sickness. Thanks to this, we were able to reach the summit without feeling unwell! We were blessed with good weather, and at the summit, we were able to see a beautiful sunset, making it an unforgettable experience. The photos taken by the staff were wonderful, and I could really feel their professionalism.

Additionally, my husband and I were honestly unsure whether to go to the summit or the foothills due to concerns about altitude sickness, but we were glad we chose the summit.

We began stargazing around 7:00 PM. Although we were lent jackets, it was quite cold, so anyone heading to the summit should definitely bring warm outerwear. We were satisfied to see a sky full of stars that we can't see in Japan. The staff's guidance was very detailed and informative.

Overall, thanks to the staff's thoughtful care, we were able to create the best memories of Hawaii Island without any worries. Thank you very much.

ご飯、煮物、魚のフライの久々の日本食でリラックスしながら山頂に向けて、出発できました。

高山病予防のために、深呼吸と水分補給をするのが効果的と教えていただきました。おかげで体調も悪くなることなく登頂まで行くことができました！天候にも恵まれ、山頂では大変綺麗なサンセットが見ることができ忘れられない体験となりました。スタッフの方に撮ってもらった写真が素晴らしくさすがプロだなと感じました。

また、私たち夫婦は、高山病が心配でマウナケア山頂か山麗どちらにするか、正直迷っていましたが、山頂にしてよかったです。

19:00頃から星空観測をしました。上着を貸していただけましたがかなり寒いため、登頂される方は暖かい上着が必須です。
日本では見ることができない満天の星空を見ることができて満足です。スタッフの方のガイドもとても詳しくて勉強になりました。

全体を通して、スタッフの方の心配りのおかげで不安なことなく、ハワイ島最高の思い出を作ることが出来ました。

The guide picked us up in the order of Kona → Waikoloa → Hapuna Beach, and since we were staying in Waikoloa, our meeting time was 1:45 PM. We arrived early at Hapuna Beach, so we spontaneously decided to go whale watching from the shore. We were able to see the whales spouting from a distance. After all 13 participants gathered, we set off for Mauna Kea Park. Normally, they stay for about an hour, but due to the rare good weather and snow at the summit, many people were heading up, so we departed after 4:30 PM to secure a spot for the sunset. By the way, snow at the summit is usually only present until January or February, and during that time, the weather can be unpredictable, making it difficult to reach the summit, which is why a guide who was off-duty also visited that day.

After leaving the Onizuka Visitor Center, we drove on a steep gravel road. Switching to four-wheel drive, the vehicle moved steadily forward. We rushed over to the snow, but being at high altitude, I quickly became out of breath and felt dizzy. I had to take deep breaths and try to move slowly. That said, there were some foreigners snowboarding and taking pictures in swimsuits...

After a while, we finally headed to the summit. Many people had already arrived at the top, but we managed to secure a position to view the sunset. It was quite cold, so I borrowed a ski jacket and gloves and put on the neck warmer I had brought. Until sunset, the guide took various photos for us.

Then came the sunset. Before the sun went down, the entire area was bathed in orange, and after it set, the sky transformed into a gradient of orange, green, and blue—a sight that words cannot describe. I felt it was a scene I would never see again, and I made sure to imprint it in my memory.

After the sunset, we had to descend from the summit, so we drove down to 3,500 meters for stargazing. Even after sunset, it was still bright for a while, and we could only see Venus. As night deepened, we began to see the first magnitude stars in order. After that, we were able to observe stars and the Milky Way that we could never see in the city. ガイドさんがコナ→ワイコロア→ハプナビーチの順に迎えに来てくださって、ワイコロアに宿泊していた私たちは13時45分の集合でした。
ハプナビーチに早く到着したため、急遽陸からホエールウォッチングをすることに。遠めからですが、クジラの潮吹きを見ることができました。ガイドさんの案内なしだったら絶対に気づきませんでした。急遽な対応でもさすがです。

その後、参加者13名全員揃って、まずはマウナケアパークに向けて出発。
後半は高山病対策のため起きている必要はあるので前半は寝ていても構わないとのことでしたが、軽快なトークのおかげでまったく寝ることはなく車の中でワクワクしていました。
マウナケアパークには15時30分に到着。ここは標高2,000mでマウナケアが高くそびえ立っていました。気温も下がっていて若干ひんやり。

トイレ休憩後、再度出発し16時過ぎに標高2,800mのオニヅカビジターセンターへ到着。
ここでは少し早めのお弁当とトイレ休憩。お弁当は日本人が作った魚のフライ、唐揚げなどが入っているザ・日本のお弁当。お昼とったばかりなのに完食でした。温かいお味噌汁も美味しかったです。山頂に行くにつれて寒くなるため、スキー用のズボンを貸してもらい装備完了（高地で履くと息があがってしまうらしいです）。
通常は1時間くらい滞在するらしいのですが、この日は久しぶりの好天&山頂に雪があるということで山頂に向かう人が多くサンセットの場所確保のために16時30分すぎに出発しました。
ちなみに山頂に雪があるのは1月、2月くらいまでで、かつその時期は天候不順で山頂に登れないことも多いらしいので、この日は非番のガイドさんもプライベートで訪れていました。

オニヅカビジターセンターを出た後は、急角度の砂利道。四駆に切り替えて車はグングンと進んでいきます。レンタカーで自力で向かうのは絶対無理です。。
その後もグイグイ進み、次第に植物の姿が見えなくなり、雲も下に見るようになり、心なしか太陽も近くに感じるようになりました。

そして富士山越えの3,800mで下車。
日本のすばるを含め各国の天文台よりも先に目に入ってきたのは一面の雪景色。午前中は暑いビーチにいたのが嘘のような銀世界でした。
先に到着した雪ダルマもあり、参加者全員が大興奮。思わず雪のもとへと駆け寄りましたが、そこは高地。あっという間に息が切れて頭がクラクラしてきました。深呼吸してなるべく体をゆっくり動かさないといけないです。といいながら、スノボしたり水着で記念撮影している外国の方もいましたが、、、

しばらくしてから、ついに山頂へ向かいます。
すでに山頂は多くの人が到着していましたが、なんとか夕陽の見えるポジションを確保できました。かなり寒いのでスキー用の上着と手袋を借り、持ってきたネックウォーマーを装着。
日没まではガイドさんが色んな写真を撮ってくれました。

そしてサンセット。日が沈む前はあたり一面がオレンジ色に染まり、日が沈んだあとはオレンジと緑と青のグラデーションで言葉で説明できない光景でした。二度と見れない光景と思い、じっくりと目に焼きつけました。

サンセット後は山頂から降りないといけないため、3,500mまで車で下山して星空観察。
日没後もまだしばらく明るく、見えるのは金星くらい。夜が深くなってくるにつれ一等星から順に見えてきました。その後は都会では見ることができない星や天の川を観察することができました。
ガイドさんは星座のことも詳しく、分かりやすく説明してくれました。天の川やオリオン座をバックに記念撮影をして星空観察は終了。

帰りはマウナケアパークに立ち寄りトイレ休憩と防寒具の回収。ホテルまで送って下さり、22時前に到着しました。あっという間の8時間でした。

マウナケアの山頂に登れるようになったのは昨年末で、また3月には行けなくなるとのこと。ハワイ島に来たなら絶対に行くべきツアーだと思います。

At the summit, it was snowing, and I couldn't see much of the observatory, but when I descended a bit, I was able to see a beautiful sunset.

After the sun went down, many stars came out, and the explanation about the stars was interesting. I was able to see many more stars than I could from the hotel. I'm glad I joined the tour!

I was worried about restrooms and altitude sickness, but there were breaks about once an hour, and they took measures against altitude sickness, which was reassuring.

I thought it was strange to need warm clothing in Hawaii, but I realized that the warm clothing provided with the tour is essential. If you're not good with the cold, hand warmers and other cold weather measures are a must.

I brought my camera thinking I might take some photos of the stars, but I regretted not properly preparing and bringing a tripod.

Next time I participate, I will make sure to prepare my camera properly.

1週間ほど悪天候で山がcloseと聞いて天候が不安でしたが、サンセットも星もすごく綺麗に見えました！

山には雪が残っていて、この状態で山に入れるのは珍しいことらしく、とっても貴重な体験でした。

山頂はふぶいていて、天文台はあまり見ることができませんでしたが、少し降りると綺麗なサンセットが見れました。

日が暮れたあと、星もいっぱい出て、星の説明も面白かったです。
ホテルで見るよりすごくたくさんの星を見ることができました。
ツアーに参加して良かったです！

お手洗いや高山病を心配していましたが、１時間に1回ほど休憩があり、高山病対策もしてくださるので安心でした。

ハワイで防寒着なんてと思っていましたが、ツアーに付いている防寒着必須だなと思いました。
寒いのが苦手ならカイロとか防寒対策必須です。

星の写真を撮れたなら〜ぐらいでカメラを持って行ったのですが、ちゃんと事前準備と三脚を用意しておけば良かったと、反省。

次回参加するときはちゃんとカメラを準備しよーと思います。

Deluxe Big Island ATV Tour & Waterfall Swim at Umauma Falls

We did the ATV/waterfall Tour as a 4 rider with my husband and my 4 and 8 year old daughters. We wanted excitement and fully expected that to come with some dirt/mud. It did not disappoint! And thankfully they have warm showers available to clean up after. You have options to ride on a quad solo or in a Razor 4x4 vehicle with 2 or 4 passengers. There had been much rain which made challenges for the trails, but the guides worked it out and made sure it was a good time. Andres and Rudy (sorry if I didn’t spell that right) were great. They were very helpful with the small kids making sure they were safe. Due to the extensive and prolonged rain we weren’t able to play in the waterfall, which was a disappointment since that was something we were really looking forward too, but understandable. I wish we would have also done the zip lines and giant swing. Both Looked awesome! Next time for sure!

Tip: wear closed toed water shoes so they can be easily washed off and dried.

The weather was nice, and it was a pleasant horseback ride! Even though my English listening skills are not very good, I had a great time! We crossed a river, encountered wild horses, and got a glimpse of the local people's lives; it was a satisfying ride on the long course! The journey to get there was also very thrilling (laughs). However, there was an office next to the meeting point, but it wasn't mentioned on the voucher, so it was a bit hard to find. Also, that was the last place with a restroom, which made me a little worried. Other than that, I was very satisfied!

川をわたったり、野生の馬に遭遇したり、現地の人の生活が垣間見れたり、ロングコースで満足のいくライドでした！

ただ、集合場所のとなりに事務所があったのですが、バウチャーには記載がなかったのでわかりずらかったかなと思います。あと、トイレもそこが最後だったのでちょっと心配になりました。

It was very impressive that a tour guide has shared a lot of stories about cultures of Hawai'i during the entire tour program. The courses were absolutely nice. The view of a coffee farm was so beautiful and the dinner was much nicer than I expected. When it comes to stargazing tour, the tour guide moved the spot for better sightseeing and it was brilliant. Even though I am not a native speaker, I fully enjoyed this tour program and I highly recommend this one to everyone.

This was truly a ‘bucket list’ experience.
Our guide Travis shared his encyclopedic knowledge of the mountain and the importance to the Hawai’ian people. The history of the observatories and their research potential was enlightening. Our other guide, Jim knew more about constellations and the night sky than many astronomers. His ability to discuss the constellations from both a euro-centric and Polynesian perspective was novel!

A truly magnificent (although really really cold) adventure.

The hooded jackets and gloves are great - but bring two layers for your both your lower body and upper body as well as warm socks/shoes.

Kohala Waterfalls Hike & Swim Eco Tour + Off-Road Adventure with Picnic Lunch

The hike is a perfect mixture of fun, beauty, information, culture and history.

We had an exceptional guide who could field any question from our mostly middle age bunch. His knowledge of Hawaiian culture and history combined with present day challenges facing the island made the day a wonderfully enriching experience. Wear hiking boots or rough bottom hiking shoes. Prepare to get a little dirt and mud on you, meet new people and enjoy a leisurely day. Long pants are helpful if you tend to be cold natured and something with a sleeve for the top was appreciated by all. Sunglasses and hat were also helpful. They equip you with towel for the swim, bug spray, sun screen, rain poncho, water, snack and small shoulder pack for all this gear. The hike was easy for younger, experienced hikers and slightly challenging for older, not so great shape people. Expect the water to be very cold if you swim to waterfall at the end of trail. Really fun day. Worth our vacation time and dollars!
