We were blessed with great weather and were able to see many breathtaking views. The guide's stories were interesting, and we enjoyed our time on the bus. At the summit of Mauna Kea, we saw incredibly beautiful scenery and took wonderful photos, creating great memories. The stargazing was also enhanced by the guide's easy-to-understand explanations. The photos taken with the starry sky in the background turned out beautifully. Later, we were able to download the photos for free, making it truly the best memory. Thank you very much!

On January 22nd, the second day of our trip to Hawaii Island, my husband and I participated in the Mauna Kea summit and stargazing tour.

We were picked up in front of our hotel at 2:15 PM. During the drive to Mauna Kea, we learned a lot about Hawaii Island.

We took several breaks along the way and had an early meal around 4 PM. It was a relaxing experience to enjoy Japanese food after a long time, including rice, simmered dishes, and fried fish, as we headed towards the summit.

We were advised that deep breathing and staying hydrated are effective for preventing altitude sickness. Thanks to this, we were able to reach the summit without feeling unwell! We were blessed with good weather, and at the summit, we were able to see a beautiful sunset, making it an unforgettable experience. The photos taken by the staff were wonderful, and I could really feel their professionalism.

Additionally, my husband and I were honestly unsure whether to go to the summit or the foothills due to concerns about altitude sickness, but we were glad we chose the summit.

We began stargazing around 7:00 PM. Although we were lent jackets, it was quite cold, so anyone heading to the summit should definitely bring warm outerwear. We were satisfied to see a sky full of stars that we can't see in Japan. The staff's guidance was very detailed and informative.

Overall, thanks to the staff's thoughtful care, we were able to create the best memories of Hawaii Island without any worries. Thank you very much.

途中、何度か休憩をしながら、16時ごろに早めの食事を頂きました。
ご飯、煮物、魚のフライの久々の日本食でリラックスしながら山頂に向けて、出発できました。

高山病予防のために、深呼吸と水分補給をするのが効果的と教えていただきました。おかげで体調も悪くなることなく登頂まで行くことができました！天候にも恵まれ、山頂では大変綺麗なサンセットが見ることができ忘れられない体験となりました。スタッフの方に撮ってもらった写真が素晴らしくさすがプロだなと感じました。

また、私たち夫婦は、高山病が心配でマウナケア山頂か山麗どちらにするか、正直迷っていましたが、山頂にしてよかったです。

19:00頃から星空観測をしました。上着を貸していただけましたがかなり寒いため、登頂される方は暖かい上着が必須です。
日本では見ることができない満天の星空を見ることができて満足です。スタッフの方のガイドもとても詳しくて勉強になりました。

全体を通して、スタッフの方の心配りのおかげで不安なことなく、ハワイ島最高の思い出を作ることが出来ました。

Climbing a mountain over 4000 meters for the first time made me anxious, especially since I had heard that the conditions at the summit can be very harsh. However, thanks to the attentive care of our guide, everyone was able to participate without any health issues. I truly felt reassured going with a guide who knows the mountains so well. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, we couldn't see the sunset from the summit, but we were able to enjoy a breathtaking view of the sunset a little lower down, which also gave us a chance to experience the power of nature. It seems that a snowy Mauna Kea is quite rare, so perhaps we were lucky in that regard. The starry sky was like a natural planetarium, and with the interesting explanations of the constellations, I could have gazed at it forever without getting bored. It became a memorable sight. Thank you to everyone at the nature school!

The guide picked us up in the order of Kona → Waikoloa → Hapuna Beach, and since we were staying in Waikoloa, our meeting time was 1:45 PM. We arrived early at Hapuna Beach, so we spontaneously decided to go whale watching from the shore. We were able to see the whales spouting from a distance. Then came the sunset. Before the sun went down, the entire area was bathed in orange, and after it set, the sky transformed into a gradient of orange, green, and blue—a sight that words cannot describe. I felt it was a scene I would never see again, and I made sure to imprint it in my memory.

After the sunset, we had to descend from the summit, so we drove down to 3,500 meters for stargazing. Even after sunset, it was still bright for a while, and we could only see Venus. マウナケアパークには15時30分に到着。ここは標高2,000mでマウナケアが高くそびえ立っていました。気温も下がっていて若干ひんやり。

トイレ休憩後、再度出発し16時過ぎに標高2,800mのオニヅカビジターセンターへ到着。
ここでは少し早めのお弁当とトイレ休憩。お弁当は日本人が作った魚のフライ、唐揚げなどが入っているザ・日本のお弁当。お昼とったばかりなのに完食でした。温かいお味噌汁も美味しかったです。山頂に行くにつれて寒くなるため、スキー用のズボンを貸してもらい装備完了（高地で履くと息があがってしまうらしいです）。
通常は1時間くらい滞在するらしいのですが、この日は久しぶりの好天&山頂に雪があるということで山頂に向かう人が多くサンセットの場所確保のために16時30分すぎに出発しました。
ちなみに山頂に雪があるのは1月、2月くらいまでで、かつその時期は天候不順で山頂に登れないことも多いらしいので、この日は非番のガイドさんもプライベートで訪れていました。

オニヅカビジターセンターを出た後は、急角度の砂利道。四駆に切り替えて車はグングンと進んでいきます。レンタカーで自力で向かうのは絶対無理です。。
その後もグイグイ進み、次第に植物の姿が見えなくなり、雲も下に見るようになり、心なしか太陽も近くに感じるようになりました。

そして富士山越えの3,800mで下車。
日本のすばるを含め各国の天文台よりも先に目に入ってきたのは一面の雪景色。午前中は暑いビーチにいたのが嘘のような銀世界でした。
先に到着した雪ダルマもあり、参加者全員が大興奮。思わず雪のもとへと駆け寄りましたが、そこは高地。あっという間に息が切れて頭がクラクラしてきました。深呼吸してなるべく体をゆっくり動かさないといけないです。といいながら、スノボしたり水着で記念撮影している外国の方もいましたが、、、

しばらくしてから、ついに山頂へ向かいます。
すでに山頂は多くの人が到着していましたが、なんとか夕陽の見えるポジションを確保できました。かなり寒いのでスキー用の上着と手袋を借り、持ってきたネックウォーマーを装着。
日没まではガイドさんが色んな写真を撮ってくれました。

そしてサンセット。日が沈む前はあたり一面がオレンジ色に染まり、日が沈んだあとはオレンジと緑と青のグラデーションで言葉で説明できない光景でした。二度と見れない光景と思い、じっくりと目に焼きつけました。

サンセット後は山頂から降りないといけないため、3,500mまで車で下山して星空観察。
日没後もまだしばらく明るく、見えるのは金星くらい。夜が深くなってくるにつれ一等星から順に見えてきました。その後は都会では見ることができない星や天の川を観察することができました。
ガイドさんは星座のことも詳しく、分かりやすく説明してくれました。天の川やオリオン座をバックに記念撮影をして星空観察は終了。

帰りはマウナケアパークに立ち寄りトイレ休憩と防寒具の回収。ホテルまで送って下さり、22時前に到着しました。あっという間の8時間でした。

マウナケアの山頂に登れるようになったのは昨年末で、また3月には行けなくなるとのこと。ハワイ島に来たなら絶対に行くべきツアーだと思います。

It was really great! I heard that the mountains were closed due to bad weather for about a week, so I was worried about the weather, but the sunset and stars were incredibly beautiful!

山には雪が残っていて、この状態で山に入れるのは珍しいことらしく、とっても貴重な体験でした。

山頂はふぶいていて、天文台はあまり見ることができませんでしたが、少し降りると綺麗なサンセットが見れました。

日が暮れたあと、星もいっぱい出て、星の説明も面白かったです。
ホテルで見るよりすごくたくさんの星を見ることができました。
ツアーに参加して良かったです！

お手洗いや高山病を心配していましたが、１時間に1回ほど休憩があり、高山病対策もしてくださるので安心でした。

ハワイで防寒着なんてと思っていましたが、ツアーに付いている防寒着必須だなと思いました。
寒いのが苦手ならカイロとか防寒対策必須です。

星の写真を撮れたなら〜ぐらいでカメラを持って行ったのですが、ちゃんと事前準備と三脚を用意しておけば良かったと、反省。

次回参加するときはちゃんとカメラを準備しよーと思います。

Deluxe Big Island ATV Tour & Waterfall Swim at Umauma Falls

We did the ATV/waterfall Tour as a 4 rider with my husband and my 4 and 8 year old daughters. We wanted excitement and fully expected that to come with some dirt/mud. It did not disappoint! And thankfully they have warm showers available to clean up after. You have options to ride on a quad solo or in a Razor 4x4 vehicle with 2 or 4 passengers. There had been much rain which made challenges for the trails, but the guides worked it out and made sure it was a good time. Andres and Rudy (sorry if I didn’t spell that right) were great. They were very helpful with the small kids making sure they were safe. Due to the extensive and prolonged rain we weren’t able to play in the waterfall, which was a disappointment since that was something we were really looking forward too, but understandable. I wish we would have also done the zip lines and giant swing. Both Looked awesome! Next time for sure!

Tip: wear closed toed water shoes so they can be easily washed off and dried.

The weather was nice, and it was a pleasant horseback ride! Even though my English listening skills are not very good, I had a great time! We crossed a river, encountered wild horses, and got a glimpse of the local people's lives; it was a satisfying ride on the long course! The journey to get there was also very thrilling (laughs). However, there was an office next to the meeting point, but it wasn't mentioned on the voucher, so it was a bit hard to find. Also, that was the last place with a restroom, which made me a little worried. Other than that, I was very satisfied!

川をわたったり、野生の馬に遭遇したり、現地の人の生活が垣間見れたり、ロングコースで満足のいくライドでした！

It was very impressive that a tour guide has shared a lot of stories about cultures of Hawai'i during the entire tour program. The courses were absolutely nice. The view of a coffee farm was so beautiful and the dinner was much nicer than I expected. When it comes to stargazing tour, the tour guide moved the spot for better sightseeing and it was brilliant. Even though I am not a native speaker, I fully enjoyed this tour program and I highly recommend this one to everyone.

Gratitude and respect! Blessed to have been able to experience sunset on Mauna Kea and the beauty of our night sky!

This was truly a ‘bucket list’ experience.
Our guide Travis shared his encyclopedic knowledge of the mountain and the importance to the Hawai’ian people. The history of the observatories and their research potential was enlightening. Our other guide, Jim knew more about constellations and the night sky than many astronomers. His ability to discuss the constellations from both a euro-centric and Polynesian perspective was novel!

A truly magnificent (although really really cold) adventure.

The hooded jackets and gloves are great - but bring two layers for your both your lower body and upper body as well as warm socks/shoes.

Kohala Waterfalls Hike & Swim Eco Tour + Off-Road Adventure with Picnic Lunch

The hike is a perfect mixture of fun, beauty, information, culture and history.

We had an exceptional guide who could field any question from our mostly middle age bunch. His knowledge of Hawaiian culture and history combined with present day challenges facing the island made the day a wonderfully enriching experience. Wear hiking boots or rough bottom hiking shoes. Prepare to get a little dirt and mud on you, meet new people and enjoy a leisurely day. Long pants are helpful if you tend to be cold natured and something with a sleeve for the top was appreciated by all. Sunglasses and hat were also helpful. They equip you with towel for the swim, bug spray, sun screen, rain poncho, water, snack and small shoulder pack for all this gear. The hike was easy for younger, experienced hikers and slightly challenging for older, not so great shape people. Expect the water to be very cold if you swim to waterfall at the end of trail. Really fun day. Worth our vacation time and dollars!

The staff, Scott, Skippy and co were fantastic. Very entertaining as well as thorough and confident in their jobs. My first 4 lines were horrible (I nearly pulled out), very rough and uncomfortable. After #4 Skippy realised my trolley was broken and gave me his own which made the rest of my journey much more comfortable, although I think he may have walked the rest of the track home.... thanks Skippy :)

The staff is young, but they work hard. It was disappointing that the photos were supposed to be sent via email but were not sent.

When we decided to go to the Big Island, we wanted to ride horses. So we rented a car and joined this tour. We were worried about whether we could drive there, but it was easy. I was a bit nervous about the English tour, but it turned out to be manageable. First, we filled out a waiver at the meeting point and received explanations about safety before boarding the van to Waipi'o Valley. During the briefing, we were advised against bringing backpacks, as they could cause us to lose balance and fall off the horse. I left my things in the car and went hands-free. A bag that fits snugly against your body should be fine.

When we arrived at the horses, the instructor explained how to ride. After that, we were matched with our horses. There were about 15 participants, with 7-8 Japanese and 6-7 Americans, so it took around 20 minutes for everyone to get matched. I was one of the first to ride, and my horse was moving around a lot, eating grass, which was quite amusing.

Once we set off, we crossed rivers and walked along mountain paths. The guide explained the fruits growing along the roadside, which was interesting. The whole horseback riding experience lasted about two hours before we returned.

When participating, it's best to wear comfortable sneakers that you don't mind getting dirty, along with jeans or hiking pants and a shirt that can get wet. Since the horses tend to stick their heads under branches, wearing long sleeves can help prevent scrapes.

出発してからは川を渡ったり、山道を歩いたり。
ガイドさんが道端に生っている果物を都度説明してくれて興味深かったです。
およそ２時間くらい乗馬して帰ってくる工程です。
参加するときはスニーカーなどの履きなれて汚れてもよい靴、濡れてもよいジーンズやハイキング用のズボンとシャツで行かれるとよいです。また馬が木の枝の下などに頭を突っ込むのでできれば長袖の方が擦り傷など付かなくてよいと思います。

My first time on the Big Island. When I think of the Big Island, I think of the night views and stargazing at Mauna Kea, so I decided to join the tour.

The actual tour was truly fulfilling, and the scenery at Mauna Kea as it transitioned from sunset to night was amazing. Additionally, the guide took a lot of photos, creating wonderful memories.

To prevent altitude sickness, we were encouraged to drink water during the bus ride, and music was played to help keep us awake, which showed great consideration.

I would definitely recommend this to everyone!

I booked a horseback riding tour in Waipi'o Valley at the request of my family. What a marvelous adventure! This is my second time. The first time I did it with my local friend and my older grand daughter. It was stellar and why we opted do do it yet again. This time I brought my 2 grand girls (13 & 16). One is a good rider, one a beginner. Both of them had a marvelous time and had wonderful horses. I'm an advanced rider and loved my horse and the entire experience. The guides are a delight and taught me much I didn't know about the valley and it's contents and history, even though I already knew quite a bit. I can't say enough about how perfect the experience was. I'll do this ride again and again, every time I come to the island. I could not have been more pleased with everything about this adventure.

I had some anxiety about meeting on-site and only using English, but it was wonderful. The horseback riding was great, and the location at Waipi'o Valley was fantastic. The guides were cheerful, and they entertained us by picking mangoes along the way. There was plenty of time for horseback riding, and I highly recommend this lovely tour. The location seemed a bit difficult to find, but it was easy enough with a rental car and Google Maps.

We participated in the zip line experience without transportation. It was the first time for both a 66-year-old and a 51-year-old. The meeting place is easy to find, just off the main road, and the parking lot is spacious. We left all items that could fall, like rings, bracelets, and cameras, and moved to the course in a jeep. This was enjoyable in itself.

The first line was a short trial zip. It gradually got longer, and the last one was a couple's zip. I think it’s a well-thought-out course. The instructor takes photos (it would be nice if it were a bit cheaper). It was a refreshing experience that took us away from our daily lives.

This horseback riding experience was so amazing! The guides were very experienced and there were experienced riders and first-timers in our group. Each participant was treated individually and to their level of comfort and experience! We rode through creeks and foliage and the slightest rainfall...it was a beautiful ride and gorgeous environment. The guides told us the history of the island and the Hawaiians who settled the valley...we also saw the wild horses along the way. Magical experience! 5-star!

I was worried about my English skills and whether I would enjoy it, but it was fine. There was nothing difficult, and I just let the well-trained horses take me on a walk while enjoying the scenery and plants. I thought it would have been better if the course didn't have a U-turn, but it seems that's how it is. All the tours I passed by were similar.

If you have a rental car, you can easily arrive with the help of a GPS while driving. I was torn between a plan with Japanese language support and transportation, but I recommend this tour because of its low price. The staff arriving late at the meeting time can be seen as a charming aspect of the foreign experience.

英語力が心配で楽しめるかな？っていう不安がありましたが、大丈夫。
難しい事は何もなく、よく慣れているお馬さんにお任せで景色や植物を見て散歩してきました。コースがUターンじゃなければ尚よろしいと思ったのですが、仕方がないみたい。どのツアーも同じような感じですれ違いました。
レンタカーが有れば、カーナビの助けも借りてドライブしながら簡単に到着出来ました。
日本語・送迎付きプランと迷いましたが、料金格安のこちらのツアーはお勧めです。
集合時間にスタッフが遅れてくる所は外国人らしさのご愛嬌という事で。
