I participated in the "Fair Wind Cruises - Kealakekua Bay Snorkeling" tour on June 21. It seems that the southern part of the Big Island often has cloudy weather, and this time was no exception, with a bit of cloudiness. However, taking a peek underwater revealed a completely different world! Tropical and colorful little fish were swimming joyfully. The combination of bright blue water with yellow, orange, red, and blue colors was absolutely beautiful. And then, there was a massive migration of gray fish! It felt like a dream. On the way back on the boat, as the speed picked up, a pod of dolphins swam playfully right alongside us, almost like companions. I don't think there are many opportunities to see wild dolphins up close like this. You'll create wonderful memories!

I participated in an afternoon snack cruise on June 28. At first, I was worried about my companion getting seasick, but that concern was completely unnecessary. I had been on several other cruises before, but this one felt like it had the least amount of rocking. The ocean was beautiful as well. It was my first time seeing a coral reef up close like that. If you're going to Hawaii, that ocean is a must-see.
Before snorkeling, the captain gave a fairly long explanation and safety briefing, but it felt responsible and trustworthy. Even so, we had a full two hours to snorkel. The staff was very well-mannered and kind, which made for a very pleasant experience.
On the way back, I dozed off while enjoying the view of the Big Island from the boat, feeling the pleasant fatigue from snorkeling and the sea breeze. I didn't get to see any dolphins, but next time, I plan to wake up early and join a morning cruise, which has a higher chance of encountering dolphins.

I participated in the afternoon cruise. I wasn't sure where the meeting place, Fair Wind's office, was, so I showed my reservation to the staff in the lobby of the condo where I stayed (Kona by the Sea) and they helped me with directions on a simple map. I can't speak English, but they wrote down how to get there, so I was able to find it without getting lost. It's better to leave a bit earlier, though.
Before departure, I went to the restroom and noticed several awards for Hawaii tours hanging carelessly along the hallway. Gold award? Silver award? They've been receiving them every year, and for the past three years, they've mostly been gold awards. They seem to be quite established. But you won't know until you experience it.
I had previously participated in a tour on a small boat on the Big Island and had a bad experience due to the rough waves, so I was a bit worried. Once on board, all the staff's names were displayed, and the captain was Mr. Hiromoto. I wondered if he was of Japanese descent, which made me feel a bit more at ease. After departure, I felt even more reassured. There was hardly any rocking—rather, it was a pleasant sway. The beauty of the ocean was absolutely perfect. On the way back, it's a good idea to bring something to keep warm, as your body might get cold.

We went on the Fair Wind Cruises' Kealakekua Bay snorkeling afternoon tour as a family. I was hesitant to book the cruise due to concerns about the weather, but it turned out to be the right decision. On June 28, the day we participated, it was cloudy in the morning, but as the boat set off, the skies gradually cleared. We spent four days on the Big Island, and it didn't rain at all.
Once we arrived at Captain Cook, we enjoyed snorkeling for a full two hours. The water clarity was excellent. There were plenty of fish, and the coral reefs were very beautiful. Above all, the staff was incredibly kind (they must have good employee training), and when I, lacking confidence in swimming, hesitated, they offered me a box with a glass bottom to use. With this, I could see underwater very well without having to put my face in the water. They also provided life jackets and floaties. I definitely want to participate again when I come back to the Big Island.

I participated in the Afternoon Snack Cruise. It was great! It was just the two of us, a parent and child. When we woke up in the morning, it was unfortunately cloudy, and I was worried about the rain, but it turned out to be better than expected. Occasionally, the sun peeked through, and the breeze on the boat was wonderful! It's a feeling you can only experience on a boat. After about 30 minutes, we arrived at the snorkeling point in front of the Captain Cook monument. Once we got into the water, I was amazed by the clarity. It was my first time seeing so many corals. There were many fish of various sizes and colors swimming among the corals. The untouched beauty of the ocean in Waikiki is too precious to just lump it all together as Hawaii. Next time, I definitely want to join the Deluxe Morning Cruise, where I might encounter dolphins!

I participated in the afternoon tour with my two elementary school children.
It was a mistake not to download the map beforehand, as I wasn't sure where the parking lot was. When we checked in at the office, they provided us with a document in Japanese that included important information that would be explained on the boat, so I felt reassured even though my English isn't great. At that time, there were only four of us Japanese and a young couple, but there was a Japanese-Brazilian woman named Rei who spoke fluent Japanese, which was comforting!
We brought our own prescription masks, but they were also available on the boat (Rx masks). They had prescriptions up to 4.0, which seemed to be fine for those with a vision of about 0.1. However, since they were quietly asking around after the fins were handed out, I think it would be better to say "I want an Rx mask!" when borrowing masks at the beginning. Kealakekua Bay is very beautiful, with colorful fish swimming nearby, and the kids enjoyed snorkeling until the last minute. Since the weather was a bit cloudy, it got quite cold on the way back, so it might have been better to have something to wear in addition to a towel. It was a tour that both adults and children could enjoy, and I'm glad we participated!

Everyone we talked to on the Big Island said that this was the best snorkeling experience in Hawaii. After taking an afternoon sail, I can see why. The simple answer is that it has an extremely awesome crew. They are both knowledgeable and very friendly. The snorkeling gear fitted well (and we were one of the last groups to receive ours so they clearly had enough to go around) and the snorkeling was great. My children enjoyed both the diving platform and the slide (and i did as well.) Mahalo.

We made friends along the way and had a much needed adventure you can't get unless you get aboard. The island is so beautiful from off shore and should be checked out by everyone in need of some true fun. The boat is clean and comfortable. The crew was really up for giving everyone what they needed and smiles and laughter where the results all around. We saw more dolphin on this trip than we did on an actual dolphin trip we went on. A win win in our book. We have a condo in Kona and go quit often. Fair Wind adventures have made a return client out of us on our future trips. Mahalo nui loa for all the le'ale'a (fun)!!!!

They do have prescription goggles if you need those & flotation devices if you need those as well. One of the best things is there are parts that are anywhere from 2 to 7ish feet from the reef it was so beautiful & at times I was literally swimming with the fish. The water was a little choppy and we weren't able to snorkle as long as we wanted because we were just too tired after all the paddling.
