It was my first experience with snorkeling, but the instructor was always there to guide me and help me, so I was able to complete it safely. The waves were strong, and I didn't get to see any sea turtles, but I was able to see some fish, and it was a good experience. I was advised to rent a wetsuit to avoid scraping my knees, but I managed to get through without one.

Of course, there were plenty of fish, and the sand patterns were wonderfully mysterious, which made me very satisfied. I'm also grateful for all the information shared during the round trip drive. Lanikai is certainly beautiful, but when it comes to beach snorkeling, the Palau Pacific Resort is definitely superior. You can't expect much in terms of fish variety or density. However, you might encounter turtles. We also saw a turtle over 80 cm long. (Unfortunately, I forgot to turn on the camera, so I don't have a photo, but it was the largest one I've ever seen.)

I woke up at 4:30 AM to join the Hanauma Bay tour. I was picked up at the Ilikai Hotel, and the night broke as we headed towards Hanauma Bay. I lined up as soon as the gates opened at 6:45 AM and got my entry ticket for 7:20 AM. I paid $25 in cash, watched an environmental video, and arrived at the beach around 8:00 AM. I put on the rented wetsuit and entered the sea. I encountered a large school of fish and lost track of time until my pickup at 11:00 AM! It was deeply moving to visit Hanauma Bay for the first time in five years since my visit before the pandemic!

To enter Hanauma Bay as soon as it opened, the morning pickup was a bit earlier. I was lucky to catch the sunrise at a nearby coastline while adjusting my schedule before entering!

This was my third visit to Hanauma Bay. The weather was perfect, but the ocean at 7 AM was still quite cold as the water temperature hadn't warmed up yet. Still, the view was absolutely stunning! I was very satisfied to see so many fish.

I really wanted to go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, and I heard that local tours are smooth and good because currently, access is strictly limited for environmental protection. It was indeed strict to enter the bay, and there was a long line of cars waiting. The guide seemed to be familiar with the local staff, which made things very smooth for us. All participants borrowed wetsuits. Since there are quite a few rocky areas, I thought it would be dangerous to just wear swimsuits. Please be careful. Great way to experience this spot for the first time

While we have been to Hawaii a few times this was our first time exploring Hanauma Bay. We didn’t know what to expect but our guide made the adventure far easier than trying to tour this spot on our own. Our guide had all the snorkeling gear, wet suits if needed, snacks available, and took photos for us. We had a young 7 year old child up to elderly and even though some stayed in the water for just a little while our guide helped us navigate the waters or assisted us walking back to our spot on the grass. It was very busy there, and we unfortunately didn’t get to see sea turtles so I wouldn’t go with very high expectations of that. However the bay is just beautiful itself and there are a good amount of fish we saw which was still fun. If you are new to snorkeling and want to see this area I would recommend taking the guided tour like this and then venturing on your own in the future if you are comfortable.

The ocean was as beautiful as I had researched beforehand. I was wondering if Lanikai might be a bit far to walk to, but as I enjoyed the scenery while walking along the sandy beach of Kailua, I didn't feel the distance at all. I was truly healed by the stunning ocean. Even looking at the photos later, it's clear how much more beautiful it is compared to Waikiki. The fine sand also felt amazing. Since my group was the only one booked for that day, I appreciate the staff for being flexible with us. I took a burger to go with my lunch voucher, and it was ready in about five minutes.

Hanauma Bay has become reservation-only after COVID, and while it's great to have guaranteed entry, I think the early morning schedule and the rental/transportation prices are high. Is there a way to make it cheaper if you only need transportation without the rental? (Entry is possible if you wait in line, so it might be possible to go by Uber, but it could be difficult to enter on the day without a guide from a service.)

I heard that the ocean is more beautiful than Waikiki Beach, so I decided to join. It was tough to wake up early and participate, but Hanauma Bay was more stunning than I imagined. I also think there are more fish to see compared to Waikiki Beach. I wasn't confident in my swimming skills, but I enjoyed the wide area where I could stand in shallow water.
