A good introduction to the island of Lanai

Everything ran smoothly from our ferry ride to Lanai, to meeting our guide at the island harbour. We saw Shipwreck Beach and the Garden of the Gods, both worthwhile stops, and were introduced to the main beach park, some of the lovely expensive hotels, and a good look at Lanai City. We enjoyed our guide’s stories about growing up on Lanai, and we loved our free afternoon snorkelling on the excellent reef at the beach. The ride home in the ferry was pretty rough, but that’s to be expected on the afternoon rough and windy waters between Lanai and Maui. It was a very expensive day, in our opinion, and our guide sometimes repeated himself, just to keep the patter going. Nevertheless, we had a good day, and would recommend it to anyone with deep pockets, and a desire to experience Lanai.

Despite the unfortunate weather making both the sunset and stargazing seem hopeless, our guide, Yamapi, did not give up and skillfully led us to points of interest, allowing us to witness a wonderful sight. I was truly impressed by his determination!

We were picked up at 3 PM for Haleakalā. Despite the temperature being 29°C, we gathered with warm clothing. The car set off towards Haleakalā, taking breaks for altitude acclimatization. At 1000 meters, we stopped at a supermarket to prepare dinner. At 2000 meters, we took a bathroom break and captured photos of avocado trees.

We reached the 3000-meter mark, but some participants felt the air was thin. At 6 PM, our guide, Mr. Yamauchi, treated us to various poke ingredients and rice, which we enjoyed as poke bowls in the car. Once it got dark, we had a stargazing session. Despite bringing a down coat, it was still cold, and I was surprised that my hands became numb.

We returned to the hotel around 10:30 PM, and I am grateful to Mr. Yamauchi for being talented, attentive, and smooth in conversation, keeping tourists, including children, engaged for over half a day.

いいよ3000mの地点に到達したが空気を薄いと感じていた参加者もいた。
18時になって添乗員ヤマウチさんが薦めてくれた種々のポキの具材とご飯をポキ丼にして車内でいただいた。
暗くなったところで天体観察である。寒さの中、星や星座の説明を聞きながら天体観察させてもらった。ダウンコートを持って行ったのにも関わらず寒かった。手が悴んで感覚がなくなってきたのには驚いた。
ホテルへ帰ってきたのは22時半ころであったが、それにしても添乗員ヤマウチさんは多才で気が利いて、話が滑らかで子供を含めた観光客を半日以上もずっと飽きさせないで案内してくれたことには感謝している。

We had a wonderful 1/2 day trip around Lanai. Our local guide was very friendly, professional, informative and engaging. It was so much fun and well worth the cost. Highly recommend, since some of the best location spots require a jeep in order to get these spots.

It was truly a dream-like day (╹◡╹). It was my first time on Maui, and I received a lot of information and stories not just about Maui but other topics as well. Dining while watching the sunset from the summit was a luxurious experience that only those who have done it can appreciate. The music that played in each situation was a stylish touch typical of Yamapi, and I was so moved by the song that played while gazing at the starry sky that I ended up in tears (^◇^;). The hospitality was incredible. I gained the courage to live my life authentically. If you go to Maui, I absolutely recommend this tour. I hope to visit again in a different season. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

マウイ島は初めてだったのですが、いろいろな情報を教えて下さったり、マウイ島以外のお話なんかもたくさんしてくださいました。
また山頂では、沈んでいく夕日を見ながらの食事は、経験した者にしか味わえない贅沢な気分でした。
シチュエーション毎に流れる音楽の演出はヤマピーさんらしく粋なはからいに脱帽です。

Shout out to the staff member who held the ferry in time for us to get on at 6:30am. * Ensure to get to the docks at least 1/2 before as parking, and finding your meeting point, isn’t simple. Something we didn’t do 😞
Russ was a great tour guide who showed us how beautiful, and peaceful, Lanai is. Would have loved to see the inside of the Four Seasons Hotel.
Eat at the Blue Ginger Restaurant. Home cooked, fresh food!
We initially booked to stay the full day on Lanai, but was able to get an early ferry back.

Yoshi was absolutely amazing! From the prompt pick up, the hospitality (tea, snacks) and the amazing knowledge, this is a tour I will always remember. Words can’t express how awesome being at that height and seeing the stars as you stand above the clouds was. Yoshi knew and shared so much and even had coats and gloves for us all as it does get cold at that height. He even showed us how to adjust the settings on our phones to timelapse and take great pictures. 1000% recommend Yoshi and this tour if you want to experience something breathtaking.

This was the second stargazing tour guided by Yamapi in 2023. It seems that visitors to Maui have returned after the Lahaina wildfire in August 2023, as the area near the summit was crowded, but we were able to fully enjoy the great nature and the starry sky in a fantastic location. We also enjoyed donuts and coffee, and I was once again impressed by the kind explanations and support from Mr. Yamauchi, a veteran of the stargazing tour. This is an highly recommended optional tour for anyone traveling to Maui.

マウイ島を訪ねる人たちも戻ってきたようで

Great tour! But I think a lot of it had to do with Josh! He honestly made it so fun, going into great detail about the island, stories about how he grew up and things his grandpa would tell him! He always made sure we were happy with what we were doing and where we were going! We saw so much and learned so much! Yay Josh! Lanai truly felt like a small cute community with lots of character and history!

I was able to observe the sunset and the starry sky from the summit of Haleakalā. The guide provided a wonderful pair of binoculars and a telescope, and we observed the stars while receiving explanations. I saw more stars than I have ever seen before, and I was able to see Saturn beautifully through the telescope, which was very moving. I highly recommend this tour!
