Muddy trek

The only bad part was that it had been raining the past few days and the road was muddy. My shoes were completely muddy and others chose to just walk bare feet in the muddy road. I think I will stay with beach activities since I can hike the Shenandoah back home. FYI- There were roosters and chickens even at the waterfall.

Wailua River Kayak, Rainforest Hike & Waterfall Swim Adventure with Lunch
The hike into hell
Reviewed by: JnJtucson, 2013/12/08This excursion should never have happened. The first part, the paddle upriver was fine, but that's where the fun stopped. Due to the recent rain activity, the normally treacherous, 2 foot wide path to the falls was turned into a muddy,ankle busting,obstacle course. Even when it is dry, this path is just barely navigable. Several people on our tour fell down and slipped into the mud,which pretty much covered the trail. We had to cross the river a couple of times, which normally would have been a fun experience, but it turned into a survival contest for many of us. Once we got to the falls, there was nowhere to sit comfortably to eat the lunch, which we had to backpack in from the kayaks. There are rocks all around the pool formed by the falls, but you have to pick your way through them, holding on to something all the way. While the falls is cute and right out of a Hollywood TV show, it is, in my estimation, not worth the trouble and cost to see it. I suggest that this trip be left to younger, childless couples in their 20,s or 30,s, if they really need to pick their way through tree roots and rocks for 2 miles. If you have youngsters, think again about this trip. If you're over 50, forgetaboutit!!
The guide was great and tried to help as much as possible, but I think he should have called off the trip due to the rains. Someone should have gone up the trail early enough to warn everyone of the conditions. Had there been another way down from the falls, I would have paid anything not to go back through the muddy hell that we endured on the way up. I guess that some tourist companies will do anything for money, especailly when it is ours. I cannot recommend this activity to anyone until the path is fixed. This activity should be labeled "moderate to hard". Lastly, should you think that this is the raving of a wimp, I am a former Special Forces, Vietnam vet who has slogged through the worst jungles in the world and survived. This one gave me a good test.

Reviewed by: Cameron, 2013/08/30This was a great tour because it covered three (3) sports in one (1) tour. Our tour guide Jamie was very good in all respects. I would just say be prepared to get a workout. For those that don't exercise, you might want to consider something else. You don't have to be a marathon runner, but if you are a couch potato this might be a stretch for you.

Reviewed by: Mamick, 2013/08/12This was really a fun and beautiful experience. Jessie was our guide, and he did a wonderful job. We were late starting, but that was because in the group prior to us he had a blind man and two elderly. It shows his patience that these three were able to complete this adventure. Let me state this is not for those who are not moderate to fit. The paddle can be tough if the wind is blowing (which it normally is). And the hike is beautiful (but can be muddy and you have to watch your step). We would highly recommend this trip for those up for the adventure. Again, Jessie is your man! It is beautiful, he is knowledgeable, and it was very fun!

Our Honeymoon
Reviewed by: Jonathan, 2013/05/14My wife and I made reservations online through VELTRA. I knew nothing more than the reviews posted on here (VELTRA/hawaiian activities) and a travel guide book. We enjoyed our morning paddle hike and tour so much! A great adventure that would not have been accomplished so smoothly on our own. It was our first time down the trail. It rains in Kauai, a lot, so the trail was mostly muddy. The guide for the trip kept us safe and informed about how to get there best. He also lead us on hawaiian time for the return trip. Allowing us all more time at the falls since our group was composed entirely of families. I appreciated that very much and a thank you to anyone from the company who reads this. Do not expect that though on your trip, we were lucky that no tour group was scheduled in the afternoon. Our stay on the island began the last week of April, until the first week of May.
You don't have to help the guide, but its friendly to do so. I bet you'll get a better trip out of it.

Very bad service!
Reviewed by: SAEZELL, 2012/09/15This excursion was fun, but staff at office was very rude. Acted like we were a burden to even help. Very short and snobby. Especially blonde lady. No one even smiled at us. I have never been on an excursion so unorganized and unfriendly. Our guide was nice enough, but no instructions for snorkeling. My sister had never snorkeled and he just gave us our masks and left us to snorkel on our own while he went spear fishing. As we were kayaking he got way ahead and never stopped and checked on the group. I was very disappointed. I have been on several excursions and the staff has always been wonderful, but not this one. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone!!!!!

Kelly was an extraordinary guide, enthusiastically sharing his knowledge and passion for the land, the local history and ancient culture. He went out of his way to make the hike interactive and interesting. He has a real gift for this. The operation, overall, is very laid back. You're made to feel comfortable with every aspect of the tour. We highly recommend Kayak Kauai Outbound and will surely be returning on our next visit to the island!

Great value for the money & SO FUN!
Reviewed by: Leddon, 2012/05/19We had an amazing adventure with the wonderful staff at Outfitters Kauai. The zips were so fun, and we felt very safe. The kayak in was a fun little adventure and the hike in wasn't tough at all. The staff were so wonderful. We felt like there us no way we could have had so much fun for a whole day deal for the price. Nick, Mitch, and Golden were so funny and personable. Bring a camera with a wrist strap, your swim suit for the two swimming holes (one with a mini zip), sunscreen, water shoes, and big spray. Mahalo, Outfitters!! Ya'll are the best!

楽しかった！！

2人乗りのボートに前後で座って、1時間弱ぐらい上流へ行きます。そのごジャングルの中を歩きながら進みますが、その途中でガイドさんが色々なことを教えてくれます。滝の前で昼食を食べその後カヤックで出発したところに戻ります。
服装は水着を中にきてシャツと短パンでOKだと思います。
運動靴やビーチサンダルは止めておいたほうが良いと思います。ジャングルの中はかなりの泥道で足がぐちゃぐちゃになります。私たちは、お金を払ってツアー会社からスポーツサンダルを借りました。
もちろんガイドさんは全て英語の為英語がわかるほうが楽しめると思います。

Great Activity
Reviewed by: Jessica, 2011/10/22My husband and I were island-hopping on our honeymoon when we participated in the Zipline Safari with Hiking and Kayaking in Kauai. One of our guides said he felt it was his job to make us fall in love with his island, and this tour certainly helped us do that. The price was fair for all of the inclusions of the tour, and the lunch provided was more than enough food. We had never been kayaking, but the river was very smooth and calm, so we were able to keep up and didn't have any issues. The hikes, swimming spots, stories, and "history lessons" were amazing. I have never seen such a beautiful forest. The Zipline was awesome as well and our guides took every safety precaution necessary to make us feel at ease. I would definitely recommend this activity for anyone looking for a more physical adventure. Be sure to wear a bathing suit, sunscreen, and bring hiking sandals or water socks because you should definitely get wet!

Excellent activity
Reviewed by: Tim and Christie, 2011/08/03We enjoyed the kayaking and hiking both. The Scared Falls were well worth the hike. I recommend good water shoes for the hike. I did it in flip flops and it was a bit tricky! Jesse was our guide and he was great, very energetic and knowledgable.

business trip break

A group of guys, we always like to be active and this provided us with the intensity we needed, and the sites were gorgeous and the guide was cool too.
Every guy who went agreed with me, this tour was the bomb.

Two Paddles WAY Up!!!!
Reviewed by: Mr. Anonymous, 2011/07/01This tour gets an enthusiastic YES from me! And my boyfriend agrees. We both had a great time. We are outdoor enthusiasts, so we wanted to stay in nature out and doing activities while here in Hawaii, so this was just right for us.
I like especially how the trip was mixed in that we got to paddle along the river in a kayak, and then mix it up a bit with a nature walk...kept things interesting and allowed different muscles to rest.
Really good time, we both had a lot of fun.

Our guide, Harley, was excellent in every way. Very informative, patient, skilled, and accommodating! It would have been nice if you had ordered more sunshine but then we would have been sunburned; this way, we were just wet!

Absolutely Unforgettable
Reviewed by: Steve and Maria, 2011/05/14My wife an I are both empty nesters (read that to mean at or near 50.) We've both been travelers and everywhere we go, we schedule events that expose us to the area we are visiting and the people and history of the area.
This event was so much fun and at no time did we feel anything be valued as being in the care and guidance of Dida and Danny.
You will meet people from all corners of the world. Eat a good low fat breakfast the morning of this event. Water is provided, and take advantage of it.
Our personal thanks to this outfitter for giving us a memory of our visit to Kauai we will never forget.

Reviewed by: William, 2010/12/07Kipu Zipline Safari was a blast!! The tour is packed with 7 hours of fun activities. Although little pricey, but there is no other tour package on the island that can rival the Kipu Safari in terms of excitement. The tour guides are very knowledgeable about the island and extremely friendly. They're also very careful in handling our food. However, for those of you whose ideas of fun includes relaxing and sunbathing at the beach, this trip is not for you. But, if you're interested in little adventures and learnings and don't mind getting wet and muddy, this trip is not be missed.

It had a little of everything...kayaking, hiking, ziplines and cooling off in a stream fed pool. I was a little concerned about our kids, ages 9 and 11, but they handled the kayaking, hiking and ziplining with ease. We thought it was definitely worth the money. The 1800' zip was the best! We would do it again in a heartbeat!

Reviewed by: Mr. Anonymous, 2010/05/28My boyfriend and I had a really great time on this adventure. Our favorite part was the ziplining. We wish there were more lines! I'm scared of heights but enjoyed it so much I can't wait to do it again!
The kayaking was nice despite the rain. We saw a few "movie spots" during our ride down the river. Also, saw some really beautiful sceneries.
The hiking was not strenuous but there were a few times where you really had to watch your step. Also, for those very prone to mosquito bites, be sure to put it on! It was pretty windy so the guides said we probably wouldn't have to worry about the mosquitos but I ended up getting bit 6 times before I was able to put some repellant.
Overall, a really great experience. This is a great tour if you want a piece of everything.

Reviewed by: Ed, 2010/04/01We absolutely loved this outing! It was a little bit of everything. The view from the kayak was amazing and the hikes are no where near as strenuous as they note. The ziplines were more than we expected. There are two zips and the final one being tandem and nearly 1800'. Awesome!! The guides were extremely friendly and make the experience enjoyable and informational. We will definitely do this trip again!!

Reviewed by: Cheryl Doherty, 2010/03/23We had a wonderful time. The scenery is spectacular, and everything we did on this excursion was fun and exciting! Highly recommend it. It is strenous though so keep that in mind.
We did our trip on March 19, 2010, my husband and I are over 50 years old and my daughter and her friend 19 years old.
Hope to do it again one day!

We are in our forties and felt like 25 again. The swing at Kipu Falls was a blast. Definately recommend to everyone! Our guides were fabulous!
