What a great day on the Big Island. If you travel to Kona make sure to put this tour on your itinerary.
Our guide was Nickels and he was the most knowledgeable young man and very patient and pleasant too. He took us to all of the places you should see on the island and even managed an unscheduled stop to the southern most bakery in the US. Even our teenagers we're attentive and even asked questions. It's a long day(@ 12hours)but I didn't want it to end. We truly enjoyed this tour.

I enjoyed it just like last time. When we were riding the horses, a foreign child started crying, which delayed our departure, so the riding time was shorter compared to last time, and the course was also shorter, which was disappointing. I recommended it to my son and his wife, and they were satisfied and enjoyed it. It's one of the activities I want to participate in again next time.

I trusted the reviews and signed up for the tour. Since I applied just before the tour, I was anxious because I didn't receive a reply, but my reservation was confirmed without any issues. After arriving at the meeting point, various tours had buses picking them up, but there were no signs. When I asked the guide, I was told that this bus was not for the horseback riding tour, and after about 15 minutes, we finally departed. It was difficult to understand the guide's English. I was the only Asian participant. We descended a steep path, crossed a river, and switched horses. My horse was very smart, gentle, and quite cute. Many of the horses had a laid-back vibe, similar to the people of Hawaii. During the tour, the guide's two dogs (both very friendly and cute) followed us the whole time. I felt that the tour duration was just right.

It was my first vacation to the Big Island of Hawaii and I booked a full day circle tour with Wasabi Tours with my boyfriend, in order to get acquainted with the island's landscape and popular destinations. Our tour guide, Kala, was absolutely phenomenal! Not only did he show us all of the beautiful sights and landscapes that the island has to offer but he was also an encyclopedia of information! You could ask Kala almost anything about the island and he would almost certainly have the answer. Kala was a historian, a geographer, a geologist, a horticulturalist and even a sociologist all in one! He was a great story teller! Kala was also extremely hospitable, professional, warm, and inviting--right from the start to the end of the tour!Somehow he managed to keep enthusiastic for the 10+ hour long day. Kala mentioned he used to work in the high end resorts in the North Shore and you can really tell that he did, as he provides extremely professional service. He really went out of his way to make sure the guests were all getting the most out of the experience. When we learned the lava was really high in the Volcanoes National Park, Kala made a few separate attempts to return to the site, as the grounds were extremely steamy that particular day. He REALLY wanted us to see the lava, but it is so sad to say the weather did not cooperate that particular day despite Kala's greatest efforts. Despite this bad luck, we were fortunate enough to see all the other beautiful sites that Wasabi tours promises to take you! Finally, to top the day off, Kala knew how much I wanted to see some of the Hawaiian Honu (sea turtles), and he found me some of those as well! Overall, Wasabi Tours does a really great job preparing a fun and informative day for guests. Ultimately, a big thank you to Kala for keeping us entertained and showing us around the tropical paradise of Hawaii!
Mahalo!

Last time, I experienced horseback riding at a ranch on the Big Island, and it left a lasting impression, so this time I participated in a horseback riding tour in Waipi'o Valley.
It was not difficult at all, and the horses followed along quietly in line, making it a truly relaxing activity. While gazing at the Waipi'o Valley, which is said to be a power spot, the only sound was the hoofbeats of the horses, which I think is the very essence of "healing." On the other hand, if you're looking for the feeling of "controlling the horse," it might be better to run freely at a ranch.
The location of the shop might be a bit hard to find. It's more reliable to go to the observation deck first and then come back.
Horseback riding while enjoying the majestic ocean of the Big Island, and leisurely viewing the healing valley from the back of a horse—either way, horseback riding is recommended as an activity to savor the land of Hawaii.

I had seen Waipi'o Valley from above, but next time, I definitely want to ride through the valley, as my husband hopes. We were a Japanese couple among the foreign participants. It was a fun time, leisurely riding through the forest and sometimes splashing across the river. When a foreigner spurred their horse, mine reacted and charged into the river at an incredible speed—it was truly surprising! Since it was my second time riding, I held onto the reins tightly, worried about letting go, and I was relieved that nothing happened. (My husband was also worried he might fall off!) Next time, a buggy ride sounds interesting too!

We participated as a family in mid-March. To enter the Waipi'o Valley, you can go by car, horse-drawn carriage, four-wheeler, or horseback. Since our child wasn't old enough to drive a buggy, we chose to ride horses. It was our family's first horseback riding experience, lasting about two hours, and we were able to enjoy it with peace of mind. The weather was great, making it a perfect day.
After checking in, we browsed some nearby souvenirs until it was time to depart. First, we took a large 4WD van from the top of the valley down to the horse stable office. This road was quite steep, and it seemed like only a 4WD could make it up. At one point, the vehicle almost got stuck while crossing a small river.
Two hours of horseback riding felt just right. Any longer, and I think my backside would have been in pain. There were nine participants in total: three from Europe and America, two from Asia, and our family of four. The instructions were in English, but surprisingly, the basics of handling the horse were easy enough for children to understand. There was also a discussion about helmets, and since they weren't required by the waiver, the kids were fine without them. Our family was very satisfied with our first horseback riding experience. It was exhilarating to have the horse move according to our will. At first, I was so focused on handling the horse that I didn't notice the scenery, but as I got used to it, I was able to fully enjoy the deep nature of Waipi'o.
I was surprised to learn that there are people living at the bottom of the valley. The instructor mentioned that she lived there as a child and commuted to school from there every day. She said her grandmother still lives there. Occasionally, we saw people walking, and greeting them from horseback made me feel a bit important, which was nice (laughs).
The price was reasonable, and we joined from Kona, enjoying the drive along the way. I highly recommend this tour. It was also great to see the buildings from the movie "Honeymoon in Hawaii" in the nearby town of Honokaa.
By the way, the horse I rode, named Paul, was a bit of a troublemaker. I think he probably got scolded the most by the instructor. It wasn't my riding skills, I swear—probably (laughs).

I have experienced horseback riding in Hawaii several times, and here you can ride through the river, and the dogs that are kept here are adorable, which is irresistible for dog lovers ❤. However, mosquitoes attacked us while riding, so we got bitten a lot. My daughter (who might be under 18) didn't want to wear the helmet because it smelled bad, but the cuteness of the horses made up for it. I wore water shoes so that my shoes wouldn't get dirty. Next time, I will bring insect repellent as well.

Not the typical tour, a local hawaiian Mika, takes you on a personal tour, with local folklore about the menehunas, he shows the local fruit, plants, how the hawaiian grew the taro plant..and then we can eat and taste the local fruit. I ride horses, and have ridden many a tourist rides, all over my travels, but this my favorite, the spiritual Waipio Valley with a local guide. Local horses (and you ride by wild mustangs in the valley) amazing to see.! ,Even my co-worker, from NY who has never been on a horse, loved it and feeling so close to nature and the culture. We were out in Honolulu on our first trip to Hawaii. My girlfriend and I purchased the Small Group Circle Island, Waipio Valley & Volcanoes National Park out of quite a few similar guided tours around the Big island. It was a fun experience that helped us learn quite a lot about the Big Island, geographic facts, ancient legends, etc. This drive is about 10 hours or so and is on and off the beaten path. Different from Honolulu and Oahu, this mostly rural island has its own culture, farmers’ markets, tropical rain forests, and black, green, and white sand beaches. Our tour guide was awesome (and I totally forgot his name) and a great story teller. He was punctual in picking us up from the Kona airport. Although the weather didn't really cooperate that particular day, it was rain and cold, our tour guide made it fun with providing us all kinds of great information as well as a really smooth ride. It was obvious he loves what he does and where he lives. The sights and landscapes were incredible - black, green and white sand beaches, lava fields, waterfalls, etc. Our approximately 250 miles tour (long but fascinating) touched at first the Parker Ranch in Waimea the bay-side town of Hilo and an orchid nursery. We stopped at the Waipio Valley Lookout, a must see location. The lookout offers sweeping views of the valley, which is breathtakingly beautiful even though the weather was very cloudy and it probably took away from the experience. We stopped at the Mauna Loa a macadamia farm and packaging place for lunch and snacks. We stopped at the Rainbow Falls very close to Hilo. It is a shorter visit with great photo ops. An absolutely fabulous view and yes, we did see a rainbow. At the Volcano National Park we saw smoke but no lava flows from the viewing area but walked through a lava tube. The black sand beach is one that is different to anything else we saw so far. We counted 12 turtles resting on the beach. My girlfriend and I highly recommend this guided tour.

Being in Waipi'o Valley itself was wonderfully refreshing. It would be tough to walk since you have to cross rivers and navigate bumpy paths, but I don't like cars, so it was a fun experience unique to horseback riding. However, since we were moving slowly and following the person in front of us, it was a bit boring that we couldn't go ahead or run.

I participated for the first time two years ago, recommended by the hotel concierge. We had no horseback riding experience and our English was not great, but it turned out to be an incredibly fun activity, so this is our second time joining. Just like last time, everyone else in the group was from Europe or America, but that was not a problem at all. The instructions are in English, but I think you can get the general idea. Additionally, there are explanations in Japanese posted on the stable walls, so you can understand how to ride the horse from that.
The group consists of about 12 people, with one guide at the front and one at the back, and we ride through the canyon for about 1.5 hours. The horse I rode this time was a 10-year-old stallion named "Rocky," who seemed to be the leader of the group, always walking right behind the front guide. Because of that, even though I couldn't understand the guide's English, I was able to listen to the explanations well.
This activity offers a wonderful experience of exploring the natural beauty of Waipi'o Valley, sometimes splashing through the river with the water up to the horses' bellies, making it so enjoyable that I want to go back for a second or third time. Also, when getting out of the car at the end, I noticed that the Europeans were giving tips to the guides, so don't forget that. We also gave a $30 tip for the two of us.

It's difficult to visit Waipi'o Valley without a tour. It's a very beautiful place. While horseback riding, you will splash through streams. However, horses are living creatures. They are well-trained, but they might graze, drink water, or stand still. If you can enjoy that aspect as well, it will be a very fun tour. The tour guides were really cool!

Riding horses in the great outdoors for about two hours at this price is something you rarely find in Japan, so I think it's a fantastic cost-performance value. There’s a river along the way, and I think it’s unique to splash through it. Although I was satisfied with the riding experience itself, there is one thing that really bothered me. That is the smell of the helmet, which was overwhelmingly bad. It was filled with the odor of sweat and dampness, and it almost made my nose go funny. While not wearing it is a personal choice, I would prefer to wear it for safety reasons. However, I couldn't stand that smell. Those who need to wear it should be prepared for that.

I had my grandmother, who has always wanted to ride a horse at least once, experience it. There were about ten people from overseas, and at first, she seemed quite anxious, but it seems her dream came true, which was great. She mentioned that she was a bit sore for a few days after getting off the horse.

The horseback riding experience in nature is very pleasant and healing. The riding time is over an hour, making it a fulfilling tour that I would recommend. It seems that wearing a helmet during the ride is optional.

In conclusion, I had a great time!
I'm not very good at English. My friend who joined me doesn't speak any English at all...
So I was quite anxious before going.
But when we arrived, we were given a consent form in Japanese!
I read it carefully and signed it. There was a section at the end about wearing a helmet, stating that if you don't wear it, they won't take responsibility in case of an accident, so I marked "yes" for wearing it. However, someone said, "What do you think? Adults usually don't wear it!" So I casually said, "Oh, then No!" and decided not to wear it.
The kids were wearing helmets, but no adults were, although I recommend wearing one if you're worried since it can be bumpy. However, there were no incidents of anyone falling off or almost falling off.
You can't take your belongings while riding, so I think it's best to leave everything except water and a compact camera in the rental car. We thought we could carry our backpacks, but we were told to "leave them!" and ended up placing them on a shelf in the stable.
The riding instructions are in English, but they also use some broken Japanese in between. I felt there was less to worry about than I expected.
While riding, once we started walking, the guide would shout instructions like "fumi! right! left!" if there was any concern. When they were shouting something in Japanese, I thought they were saying something to us and listened closely.
It was my first time riding. At first, my horse was quite restless, which made me anxious, but gradually we connected and were able to enjoy the ride.
It felt longer than I had anticipated.
I was thrilled to see a giant (bigger than a person's face!) bright blue frog climbing a tree!
I had a lot of fun!
However, the next day my butt was sore (laughs).
If I go to the Big Island again, I definitely want to participate again!
