The nature trip is very enjoyable and educational. You get to see stuff that you would not see on the average. It is trip worth taking. However, I did not like the long wait at the airport in the morning and the evening. By the end of the day you are exhuasted. So, you should sleep well night before to enjoy the trip. It is trip that one should take once in their lifetime.

I forget the name of our guide, but she shared a lot of interesting konwledge about the volcano. I really enjoyed the trip, and would do it again. I recommend this tour package to everyone, you will learn a lot and enjoy yourself at the same time.

Our pilot was friendly, very personable with each one of us. I loved how he used our names as if we already had knowledge of what he was about to share with us. That was a fun way to learn. Amazing how large this volcano is!! Later in the day we drove from Hilo down to the area so we could touch the lava in person. Felt like we were on another planet. Lava and desolation for as far as we could see. Thanks for this experience. Blue Hawaiian Helicopters are the BEST!!! Awesome pilot and staff!!

We had the best time of our lives! The only trouble we had was the airport. The company didn't issue some tickets and so at the ticket counter it took about 35 mins for us to get boarding passes.I would have thought maybe it was an oversight but it happened to all of the people in our tour group. It was also a little unnerving not to have some one from the tour company waiting for us at the Hilo airport, but all turned out well.I would recommend the trip to anyone. Our tour guide i believe was Harry...He should get a raise!!! He is very good and never found him to be boring! We tipped him graciously for his awesome day!!!!! I would like to have had maybe some later trip because it was hot for the children and i would like to have seen the hot lava but i could always come back for another trip...lol.So all in all it was a beautiful day and i would do it all over again!!!!

Be prepared for a FULL day! I was very satisfied with the hotel pickup/drop-off and air travel. Everything went according to the advertisement. Our tour guide ("Harry") on the Big Island was VERY good ... entertaining, knowledgeable, keeping us on-time, even beating the crowd from the other tour buses to the lunch line (buffet was over-priced at $17 each). The National Park Service had the road closed to the lava activity due to the recent earthquakes (tremors). But the black sand beach, crater visitors center and museum, lava tube, orchid nursery, and macadamia nut factory were well worth the visit. Don't know if I would go again, but you should include this activity at least one time!

Fantastic tour with a great tour guide.
Only one problem.
We were told that we had to check in at 5:30 AM
at the Honolulu Airport.
We got there at that time and there was no one at their
counter.
The flight does not leave until 7:20 AM
so it was ridiculous to be told this.
Be advised and let your people know
because all you will do is sit and wait...and wait...and wait.

My daughter was amazed by the lava flows over the road. It also put her class work into perspective. The lava tube was very different and interesting. Ending with Macadamia Nut Ice Cream was perfect before the hop back to O'ahu!

This trip was absolutely the highlight of our stay in Hawaii. It was the most amazing experience to walk on the crater floor of an active volcano and take a wander on a lava field. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone with any interest in volcanoes or anyone just looking for a fabulous way to spend a day. Our tour guide was an absolute fountain of knowledge, you could tell he had a deep interest in the subjects he talked about and in the Big Island.

Wish we had more time to see actual lava, not just lava fields. One hour is not enough time to hike to the flows and back. Other than that, however -- great time!!! LOVED Cousin Aaron!! :-)

I was picked up from the hotel in Waikoloa, and although I was told that a confirmation couldn't be made, I was able to ride in a helicopter piloted by the only Japanese pilot (Mr. Mochizuki) whom I had requested via email in advance. Mr. Mochizuki provided explanations in both languages to the American couple accompanying us and to us, which made it very enjoyable.
It was my first experience in a helicopter, and there was no vibration, with glass all the way to the floor. I was able to see the lava flowing into the ocean at Kilauea Volcano, and it was amusing to see the cows grazing on the vast Parker Ranch appearing as tiny dots. I was surprised to hear about the elementary school that was affected by a tsunami, located on top of an 800-meter cliff in Waipi'o Valley, and we got very close to a waterfall that has a drop of 1,000 meters, allowing us to fully enjoy the majestic nature.
Waikoloa is a dry area with brown lava land, but as we got closer to Hilo, we experienced sudden rain and saw much greenery, making for a wonderful experience of the vastness and climate differences of the Big Island in a short time! (Driving around takes a whole day, right?) Additionally, on the way back, although we had to wait for a few minutes, we could purchase the video from that day that was on board the helicopter.
