Since it's well-trained, just riding is enough. Two and a half hours is just right—not too short and not too long. The reins are held with one hand, unlike in Japan. (Using both hands when changing direction is smoother.) You can take photos freely. (It might be safer to have a strap attached in case you drop your phone.) Jumpers and boots are available for free rental, but you might not need them if the weather is good.

It felt good to be able to control the horse freely by holding the reins myself. At first, the horse seemed to mock me, but once I got used to it, it started to listen to me.

We signed up for a one-and-a-half-hour plan for beginners as a family. We drove to the ranch with a rental car. The sign is simple and easy to overlook. Since it's a one-way road, it’s difficult to make a U-turn if you miss it. In March, it was a bit chilly, and the weather was partly cloudy. When we mentioned our reservation name, they provided us with helmets, jumpers, and a waist pouch for valuables (free of charge). After a brief lesson on how to use the reins, we set off immediately under the guidance of the instructor. The highlands offered a refreshing feeling with a 360-degree view. If the weather had been good, we might have been able to see the ocean, but unfortunately, it was cloudy and obscured. The horses were calm and moved slowly while grazing along the way, so I think even beginners can participate with confidence. While Kualoa Ranch on Oahu is nice, the spacious grasslands are unique to the Big Island.

I actually wanted to go horseback riding in Waipi'o Valley, but I couldn't make a reservation, so I gave up. I was able to make a reservation for horseback riding at the ranch, so I participated here instead. They didn't speak any Japanese at all, but they explained things in simple English with smiles, so I hardly had any trouble. They provide Western boots, socks, parkas, jackets, and bags, so you can go hands-free without any issues. I left my valuables with them, but I took a drink, camera, and phone in my bag. Sneakers would be fine, but I think it's better to borrow boots. I had my own socks, so I wore those. Did we ride for about 1.5 hours? We galloped and trotted around the vast ranch grounds. Since my husband was almost a beginner, I thought we would just walk, but he looked at the situation and asked if we wanted to try running, and we did a few times. We signed up for the 2.5-hour course for four family members. We gathered at 8:30 and arrived at the meeting point on time, but since the group for the 1.5-hour course, which was scheduled for 9:30, arrived before 9:00, we ended up starting with them and had to wait for nearly an hour after we were ready... During that time, there was no explanation given.

After being taught how to handle the horses, we set off. We all climbed up the highlands together. The weather was nice, and the views were great. We walked briskly several times, and about an hour passed.

As mentioned in other people's posts, we were wondering if we would also be on the 1.5-hour course, but along the way, we were told, "They go Long Course," and we took a different route. The other group descended and went back.

We continued to climb higher into the highlands and experienced a canter for the first time. It was for a short time, but it was an incredible speed and vibration, and I clung on desperately to avoid falling off the horse, making it a valuable experience.

After that, we arrived at a scenic viewpoint. We took photos with Maui Island in the background, with mountains and the sea, before descending. The actual riding time was about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

I think it would be less confusing if the 1.5-hour course was labeled as the "Standard Course" and the 2.5-hour course as the "Long Course." The horseback riding itself was five stars due to the perfect weather and location, but the local staff's response was somewhat lacking, so I give it four stars.

他の人の投稿にもあるように、自分たちも１．５時間コースになるのかなぁと思っていましたが、途中で「They go Long Course」と言われ自分たちは別のルートへ。他のグループは下山し帰っていきました。
更に高原を登って行き、途中で初めての駈歩を体験。少しの時間でしたが、すごい速さと振動に馬から落ちないよう必死にしがみつきましたが貴重な体験となりました。
その後絶景ポイントに到着。マウイ島が見晴らせる場所で山と海をバックに写真撮影をし下山となりました。
正味の乗馬時間は２時間１５分程。
１．５時間コースは「標準コース」２．５時間コースは「ロングコース」とした方が誤解がないのではと思います。
乗馬自体は最高の天気、ロケーションで星５つですが、現地の人の対応がいまいちなので星４つです。

After a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Kona, we arrived at the Kafa Ranch right at 8:30. Since I was only wearing a T-shirt, I decided to borrow a jacket and a helmet. After a brief lecture (it was in English, but even someone like me who can't speak it could understand somewhat. They taught us how to start, stop, and steer the horse.) they helped us choose a horse based on our body type. My horse was a sturdy gray named "Smoky," which was just right to support my 80 kg.

We set off in a line. The ranch itself is located in a high area, and we continued to ascend through the grasslands. Along the way, we encountered a thick fog. Borrowing the jacket was definitely the right choice. My glasses fogged up with water droplets. It was quite cold, but when the fog cleared, we were enveloped in refreshing air. After almost two and a half hours without taking a break, we were on the horses the whole time. The scale of this horseback riding experience was completely different from what I've experienced in Japan.

I absolutely recommend this activity!!

I made a reservation for the 9 o'clock session and arrived at the reception at 8:30. Since I filled out the liability waiver in advance, I measured my weight on the scale next to the reception, and the check-in was completed in just one minute.

I think the percentage of Japanese people is low, and no one speaks Japanese at all, so it's recommended to download the liability waiver from the e-voucher and fill it out beforehand. It takes time to translate on-site.

About 10 minutes before the start time, I received a harness, helmet, and gloves in a room at the back of the reception, and then we traveled to the zip line location in a six-wheeled vehicle used by the military. The zip line descends from a platform built high in the trees. The distance is decent, and we cross a suspension bridge between the wooden platforms, which might be scarier.

The staff are kind, and it's a good tour.

If you're only considering the zip line, Akaka has a longer one.

Believing that improvements had been made, I joined this time, and we departed around 9:15 and had riding time until just after 10:40. I think it's quite terrible to pay for a 2.5-hour course and receive a tour that doesn't even meet the 1.5-hour duration. The weather was great and it was absolutely wonderful. The hiking trails were well-maintained, so you can walk in jogging shoes. The dad from the American family who joined the tour was wearing flip-flops, but he was able to walk without any issues. (≧▽≦)

Insect repellent, sunscreen, water, and even towels and bags were available for rent.

Above all, having lunch on the grass with the backdrop of the Porn Valley after the hike made me very happy! !(^^)!

We participated as a three-generation group, from ages 9 to 60s.

There were plenty of boots, helmets, and jackets available, and everyone borrowed them.

The explanations were in English, but the instructor spoke very clearly, making it easy to understand, and they spoke slowly enough that I could convey the information to the children as well. They also engaged with us during the ride, and when the horses didn’t listen, the staff at the front and back of the line helped out. As a beginner, I felt safe and had a great time.

It took just under an hour for all participants to get equipped and mount the horses, but after that, we rode for about 1 hour and 40 minutes, going up hills and visiting a cattle pasture. We finished around noon after the morning gathering.

The children seemed to have a lot of fun and are already talking about "next time being 2 and a half hours!"

9歳から60代まで三世代で参加しました。

ブーツやヘルメット、上着はたくさん用意されており、全員お借りしました。

I chose the course at Cahuilla Ranch because I wanted to ride freely in a spacious area, and it was a great decision. Perhaps because it was the off-season, we unexpectedly had a private tour with just the instructor and my husband and me. Under the guidance of a beautiful and slender instructor, we strolled through the vast ranch, controlling the horse ourselves instead of being led. The meeting place was not marked by a large sign like you would find at tourist attractions, but rather a regular ranch building, which made it a bit difficult to find. However, we managed to arrive by relying on the car navigation system. After reading a very simple horseback riding guide written in Japanese, we put on our helmets and immediately mounted the horses to set off. That day, it was just the two of us and a female guide. The horses were well-trained and walked slowly along a predetermined course without us having to do much, so I didn't feel any danger at all. We enjoyed over an hour of horseback riding in a vast hilly ranch surrounded by stunning views of the sea and mountains. Along the way, we also encountered herds of cows and sheep. This is an experience that you definitely can't have in Japan, and I highly recommend it.

集合場所は、観光名所に見かける大きな案内の看板がある訳ではなく普通の牧場の建物なので、少々わかりにくいところもありましたが、カーナビを頼りにどうにか到着。日本語で書かれたごく簡単な乗馬ガイドを一読した後に、ヘルメットをかぶりすぐ馬に跨って出発。この日は我々二人と女性ガイドの3人だけでした。馬はよく訓練されていて、こちらが特に何かやらなくてもあらかじめ決められたコースをゆっくりと歩いて進んでいく感じで特に危険は感じませんでした。海と山の絶景に囲まれた広大な丘陵地の牧場をのんびりと一時間以上の乗馬。途中で牛や羊の群れとも出くわします。日本では絶対にできそうもない体験でとてもお勧めです。

It was the first time for my husband and children to ride horses properly. After a brief explanation in English, each person was assigned a horse, and they quickly got on. From the moment they mounted, they held the reins themselves and started moving! At first, my sons were nervous, but after about 10 minutes, they seemed to be having a great time. They enjoyed the beautiful scenery while riding. Then, after about 30 to 40 minutes, when the instructor asked, "Do you want to try running?" they all nodded and started to run together! My eldest son enjoyed running several times afterward, while my younger son, who was scared, took his time walking, which was nice as everyone could progress at their own pace. After more than an hour and a half of riding, we finished, and it was interesting to see the contrasting feelings between the exhausted parents and the kids who wanted to ride even more. As a side note, it seemed beneficial for my sons, who are learning English, that everything was conducted in English.

補足ではありますが、英語を学習中の息子たちにとっては英語オンリーであることも良かったみたいです。
