I participated with my spouse and our 5-year-old son on September 27, 2010. We arrived at the location for check-in at 6:00, and while preparing our wetsuits and snorkeling masks, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset before boarding the boat that was docked nearby.
I thought we would head out to sea, but it turned out we were quite close to shore, right in view of the Sheraton. After arriving, we received various explanations in English before preparing for the night snorkeling. I later learned that the area in front of the Sheraton is a famous spot for manta ray sightings, and the Sheraton is well-known for being a hotel where you can see manta rays.
Near the boat, there were floating devices that you could hold onto, and we swam there using a noodle, which is a stick-shaped flotation device. (They also provide life jackets for those who need them.) By the way, there are stairs in the center of the boat that lead down to the sea, where you enter the water.
My 5-year-old son was quite scared since it was his first time in dark and deep water, but he was able to see a manta ray (though he quickly came back up). He was happy to see other fish from the boat.
That day, there were quite a few manta rays, and they came very close, which was quite impressive. Even though we were told that manta rays do not attack people and that they have no mouths to bite, it might still be a bit intimidating for adults (laughs).
By the way, we were repeatedly told not to touch the manta rays, and since this was explained in English, it’s best to listen carefully. Also, when watching the manta rays, you need to keep your body horizontal and not let your legs dangle down. They were saying "FLAT! FLAT!" in English, but it took me a little while to realize what they meant...
Additionally, there were other fish besides the manta rays, and it seems you can snorkel freely near the boat, so I highly recommend this for those who have never done night snorkeling or seen manta rays before.
By the way, there was no place to change, so I wore my swimsuit and changed in the car on the way back. There is a restroom nearby, so you might be able to use that, but I haven't confirmed it.
Things you should bring include a camera for underwater video recording, a waterproof flashlight, and warm clothing.
Also, I tend to get seasick, so as expected, I couldn't eat or drink on the boat. Those who don't get seasick can enjoy snacks and hot drinks.
FLAT!

I participated with my spouse and our 5-year-old son on September 28, 2010. Other participants included two couples from the US and a mother-daughter pair, as well as one couple from Switzerland. For our group, the check-in location was at Honokohau Marina, which we reached by rental car. Honokohau Marina is easy to find, but for first-timers or those who may have difficulty asking for directions in English, it might be helpful to check out the map at http://bit.ly/a3TsIp in addition to a regular map.
Our guides were Colin and Shane, and everything was in English without a Japanese guidebook. Colin handled the steering and provided various explanations, and he talked quite a bit. There may be times when explanations are difficult at a casual conversation level. We didn’t mind the details, so we enjoyed his talk quite a lot.
As for the tour, since it involves nature, there are no guarantees on what you will see, but I think it’s highly recommended for those who, like us, only know the seas of Japan. Although we didn’t see whales, turtles, mantas, or sharks like others did, the experience of riding on a high-speed boat was fun, and it was wonderful to experience the difference in colors between the coastal waters and the open sea.
During snorkeling, they provided life jackets for everyone who couldn’t swim, and they lent a boogie board with a viewing window to the children (we were the only ones with a child). My 5-year-old son was initially scared in the deep water, but after getting used to it with the life jacket and boogie board, he was thrilled to see the fish underwater. After a while, he wanted to return to the boat, so I asked if it was okay for me to snorkel while leaving him on the boat, and they kindly agreed, taking care of him. Although my son doesn’t understand English, he got along well with Shane.
As we parents started snorkeling, Colin pointed out that there were dolphins over there. When we swam over, we initially only saw the dorsal fins on the surface, but after searching for a while without giving up, we encountered dolphins swimming underwater and were able to swim with them. My waterproof Full HD Xacti camera was a great help here, and I was able to capture fantastic footage of the dolphins underwater, creating wonderful memories.
For lunch, we had sandwiches, snacks, and drinks while chatting on the boat. For those who get seasick, this...

Riding a kayak was exciting for me, especially since I haven't had much experience with boats in Japan. It felt more like being on a board floating on the sea (though it was stable), which was a strange sensation. At first, I struggled with bumping into others and not being able to move forward smoothly, but as time passed, I was able to pick up speed.
The sea was very clear and beautiful. Paddling through it on a sea kayak felt like returning to nature, as if I had become one with it, and it was incredibly refreshing.
I was a bit nervous about the caves at first, but they were cool and interesting. Next time, I want to explore a larger cave with a kayak! ^^

In the morning, I participated in the sea kayak cave exploration, and in the afternoon, I relaxed with shopping, at the beach, and by the hotel pool. I think the reason I had such a fulfilling day was that the morning tour was really great.
Once I got on the sea kayak, I felt like a local as I paddled out into the sea. The instructor was quite reliable and kindly guided us. The kayak was narrower and had a lower edge than boats in Japan, so it felt like I was sitting in the water. My wife was initially scared and was squealing, but she gradually got used to it.
The caves were mysterious, and the fact that you could only access them by kayak added to the sense of adventure, which was really fun. It was a wonderful experience.

I thought it would be great to paddle a sea kayak myself, which feels very outdoorsy, so I joined the adventure. It was quite a good experience. Since sea kayaking is close to the water's surface, it was fun to glide along the ocean. I was a bit worried about what would happen if big waves came, but there were no such waves, and I was relieved when I safely reached the cave. The inside of the cave was wonderful too. They said the walls were pink, and they really were, beautiful indeed. Gliding through the cave in the kayak was a unique sensation. I also enjoyed snorkeling and diving into the beautiful sea. It was a lot of fun.

I'm glad I participated. At first, balancing on the kayak was difficult, but I quickly became a pro-level paddler. When we went out to the middle of the ocean, I wondered if I would be okay, but the instructor frequently checked in on us, which was reassuring.
Paddling through the sea caves was an amazing experience. It felt strange to navigate through areas that could only be accessed by kayak, where there was no solid ground. It was a very interesting experience. The snorkeling afterward was also great; the water was clear, and tropical fish were swimming nearby, which was a lot of fun.
I'm really glad I took part in this.

The tour includes riding a high-speed rubber boat, where you'll first encounter dolphins. After that, you'll visit several caves, enjoy snorkeling at Captain Cook's landing site, and have a sandwich lunch on the boat before returning. It's about a half-day course.
At first, the high-speed rubber boat can be quite fast, so it may take some time to get used to it. The driver intentionally sways the boat from side to side, which might cause some people to feel seasick. Also, there were few Japanese participants (by the way, when we participated, we were the only two Japanese out of 16 people), so if you don't have a certain level of English, it might be a bit tough during the tour guide's explanations and conversations with other participants.
This was my second time at Kealakekua Bay, and as always, the water clarity was high, and I enjoyed snorkeling.
I recommend this tour more for couples than for families.

My wife suggested that we participate in a snorkeling trip at Captain Cook's landing site, so I joined in. I had previously gone horseback riding to the same spot and snorkeled there. The tour involves a round trip on a high-speed rubber boat from Honokohau Harbor to Captain Cook, and in addition to snorkeling, we get to see lava caves that can only be viewed from the sea. Occasionally, we also experience thrilling boat maneuvers. If there are dolphins, turtles, or mantas, they come close to us. When we participated, all the other participants were from the mainland United States (a total of 16 people). Since it was all in English, some level of English proficiency might be necessary to fully enjoy the experience in real-time. However, we received a guide written in Japanese beforehand, so if you read that, you should understand most of it. Seeing the Big Island from the ocean side, even if just a small part, allows you to experience its grandeur. Additionally, the thrill of racing across the waves on a high-speed boat really enhances the resort vibe. I recommend it for anyone looking to clear their mind.

It's a place that's hard to visit individually, with beautiful waters and plenty of fish. The BBQ lunch on the boat was fantastic. The staff grilled the meat for the burgers, and then you could add your favorite toppings yourself. It was delicious. I think there were about four types of drinks available.
They also lend out floaties, so even those who are not confident swimmers can participate with peace of mind. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to see dolphins in the distance!
The boat was stable, so I didn't get seasick, and participants of all ages—young and old—can enjoy this tour.

It was my first time kayaking, and it felt great. It felt much closer to the ocean than being on a boat, and I wanted to take it home with me.
Exploring the cave was also refreshing; I had walked through caves in Japan before, but this was my first time moving over water. It was a bit scary, but it felt like a thrilling amusement park ride (of course, nothing scary actually came out).
It was also a great memory to bond with the other participants. If I ever go to Hawaii again, I would love to go kayaking again.

They provide long explanations at various locations, but everything is in English. At first, we were given a Japanese instruction manual, but there isn't enough time to read it on the boat, and the captain's jokes, which he sometimes skips, are not translated, so if you don't understand English at all, it might be boring. Also, since we have to introduce ourselves at the beginning, it might be a bit tough for very shy people.
The sea is beautiful, and snorkeling is fantastic. However, my husband is not a strong swimmer, so when he asked for a life jacket, they only provided him with a kickboard for some reason. I stayed close to him, but it was quite deep, and it seemed a bit scary for him, so in the end, he got back on the boat partway through.
Still, we encountered dolphins and manta rays, and overall, it was an enjoyable tour. The speedboat is fun, and the waters of Kealakekua Bay are truly wonderful, so I highly recommend it for those who are experiencing this for the first time.

On 9/3, it was a perfect sunny day for rafting. The Kona side of the Big Island has little rain, making it refreshing to visit any time. The speed and thrill of this experience cannot be matched on land. It feels like you are flying as one with the boat.
Out of five couples, we were the only Japanese. Three couples were on their honeymoon, and they were lively and cheerful, making a fuss every time the boat jumped. There was also an elderly couple, likely in their 60s or 70s, who participated and enjoyed snorkeling.
It was an emotional experience to see wild dolphins swimming close to the boat, jumping and playing.
It felt like we were heading all the way to Maui, as we ventured out far enough to spot small whales gracefully swimming in the sea. Their relaxed movements were truly soothing.
We were given a Japanese explanation at the start, while the English guide was hard to understand and felt more like background music.
We took a taxi from the Fairmont Mauna Lani, which ended up being quite expensive for a one-way trip.
Make sure to take thorough sun protection measures. Hats can easily be blown away. Don't forget your rash guard. You can't use an umbrella on the boat.

I boarded the Zodiac for the first time with anxiety about seasickness, but the speed was so fast and the wind was so strong that I hardly felt nauseous. Instead, I felt a bit of discomfort in my backside. Along the way, I encountered dolphins and small whales, listened to explanations about various places on the Big Island, and even snorkeled near the Captain Cook statue, making it a fulfilling experience. I also enjoyed desserts and sandwiches, so I felt the cost performance was quite good.
What I particularly enjoyed was snorkeling. Thanks to the high salt content in the seawater, my body floated easily, allowing me to have a great time even though I'm not a strong swimmer. Additionally, the clarity of the seawater was very high, so I could clearly see the underwater scenery, including fish pecking at the coral and swimming gracefully.
One point to note is that, being in Hawaii, the sunlight is very strong, so it's necessary to apply a strong sunscreen all over. Despite that, I still got sunburned, and after returning home, my skin felt sore and peeled.

We had a great time snorkeling, both my beginner wife and I. It was fun to see so many colorful and beautiful fish, as well as some slightly scary eels up close. I was especially surprised to see a school of dolphins swimming right below us. My sons were thrilled to swim alongside them for about a minute. However, it was disappointing that during the cave exploration, the explanations were given in fast-paced English, so I could hardly understand the content. I think it would have been more enjoyable if they had provided a paper with explanations in Japanese.

The luau show was great because I could see various traditional dances☆
Although the seating arrangement doesn't guarantee that you'll get to sit in the front even if you line up early, it seems there's an option to arrange for seats closer to the front for an additional $20.
Since the dances are only performed on stage, sitting closer definitely makes it easier to see. It would be amazing if they could come down from the stage and perform up close at least once...
The event's schedule consists of half luau and dance shows, and the other half is a talk show with the host and performers. I think those who can speak English will enjoy it fully, but since I couldn't understand most of what was being said, I felt like I only enjoyed about half of what I paid for.
The dance portion isn't very long, so I wouldn't particularly recommend it for those who want to see hula or dance shows in depth, but experiencing it in person is a good experience, so it might be nice for first-timers. By the way, the show is dark, so it's difficult to capture footage unless you're using video.

We experienced an afternoon tour as a family of four. While the equipment can sometimes be smelly or old, this tour was just fine. Even my 5-year-old daughter enjoyed it on a kickboard with a window. It was cloudy at first, but when the sunlight came through, it was very beautiful and moving. Before we left, the staff and captain performed a dive show from the boat, but right after that, my daughter asked, "Where's my captain? Where did the bartender go? How do we get back?" Other than her worries, the safety was excellent.

I had seen footage on TV of manta rays gathering around light to feed on plankton, but seeing them in person was a completely different experience!
We got incredibly close, almost within reach of them, and it was my first time entering the ocean at night and seeing manta rays up close. I believe this experience holds significant value! We observed while holding onto something like a raft on the water, and since I was at the farthest end from the boat, the manta rays came quite close to me. This is just my interpretation, but perhaps being at the edge allows the manta rays to have an escape route, making them less skittish (laughs).
Here are a few points for those participating:
1. Be sure to borrow a wetsuit. It was the middle of summer, but the ocean at night was still cold. They will provide masks and fins while on land, so make sure to ask for a wetsuit at that time. For those who are sensitive to cold in winter, it's advisable to bring a rash guard or wear two wetsuits for extra warmth.
2. Capture videos instead of still images. Still images don’t turn out as beautifully as in the posts. Flash is completely ineffective. Using a waterproof camera for video or preparing a waterproof case for your camera will allow for better footage. I couldn't post due to storage issues, but the videos turned out really well.
3. If you are prone to seasickness, prepare some medication. Generally, you just float, so even those who aren't confident swimmers can participate in this activity (though it can be a bit nerve-wracking since it's dark at night). Just floating can still make you feel queasy due to the waves, and even though the boat ride is only about five minutes, some people feel sick during the briefing on the water. It seems that standing in a spot where the wind hits you more is less likely to cause seasickness than sitting, but if you're worried, it’s best to take some medication beforehand.
4. All instructions are in English. They will explain not to walk around while wearing fins, to keep your legs horizontal while floating to attract manta rays, that flash photography bothers them, and where the restroom is located. There will be no Japanese spoken, so if you don’t speak English, pay close attention to the actions of those around you.
5. Bring as few belongings as possible and avoid taking valuables. Most belongings are left unattended on the boat, so try not to bring valuables with you.

My only complaint - the photographer took only one photo of us and eyes were closed. We did not purchase the photo.Since cameras are digital - a quick check would have eliminated the problem.

Don't plan on going into this activity thinking you will be in your own kayak.
Oceans Kayaks, who provides the kayaks and tour guides, etc. DO NOT have sufficient amounts of single kayaks to appease their guests. We, as an adult family of four, were looking forward to going on this adventure in individual kayaks. My fiancee and I kayak often and my daughter also has taken to kayaking. We wanted singles and were never (especially when booking online) given the option of singles vs. doubles. When we arrived, we expressed our desire for singles and were brushed off by employees who did not want to think outside the box.
After much debate, we resigned ourselves to complete the activity and it was very enjoyable. We had great guides and we experienced quite a bit. We were hoping to snorkel a little longer, but we had a great time regardless.
We do recommend this activity, but only if you don't mind being forced to take doubles kayaks.

I participated using my summer vacation.
I didn't realize boats could go that fast. At first, it was a bit scary, but as I got used to it, the wind felt really nice.
A pod of whales came close, and I was able to take pictures of them at an incredibly close distance.
The guide was kind. I don't understand English at all, so I couldn't follow directly, but the speaking speed was a bit fast. However, they provide a Japanese translation sheet at the beginning, so there's no need to worry about that. I think it's good to read it well before starting.
Snorkeling was a bit cold, but it was great. The people who participated with me finished snorkeling early and spent the rest of the time chatting with the guides on the boat.
I recommend this tour. I enjoyed the extraordinary experience. Thank you very much. I would like to participate again!

I participated with my boyfriend during the summer vacation.
It was my first time riding such a fast boat. If you don't hold on properly, you might get blown away. It was very thrilling and fun!
First of all, I was moved to see dolphins and whales up close.
There were two guides, and they were very kind and considerate in helping the members bond with each other. However, they spoke quite quickly. I had no problem since I can speak English, but I recommend that those who don't speak at all keep the Japanese translation given at the beginning handy in their bags. You have to put your bag away during rafting.
Snorkeling was also enjoyable. I was able to see fish up close. The sandwiches, snacks, and juice for lunch were delicious.
It was a tour that made me appreciate the size of the Big Island again. I highly recommend it for groups of friends. I think it would be fun and lively.

When I participated, there were 14 people, including 4 Japanese. The guides were two people who always made us laugh and were excellent entertainers. However, they also provided a sense of trust that they would help us when needed.
Since the sun was strong, sunscreen is essential. I think having sunglasses would also be good. I brought a camera, but as long as you don't accidentally drop it in the sea, it won't get wet.
The boat moves at a great speed, so it's a struggle to hold on, but once you get used to it, you can take in the scenery around you. I was worried about getting seasick, but I think the speed helped me maintain my balance.
I didn't wear a swimsuit even though I knew we would be snorkeling, so I just observed, but everyone else seemed to swim well and find fish.
Along the way, we were able to see dolphins and whales. For lunch, we had sandwiches, and there were also potato chips, cookies, and fruit, which were all very delicious.
I didn't understand the English explanations at all, but I enjoyed it enough.

We have gone on a number of them in the Caribbean and Hawaii and have really enjoyed them all.
Our all time favorite was the Holo Holo charter on Kauai that took us over to Napali.
My wife and I, as well as our 3 boys, really like getting out on the ocean in a smooth running catamarran.
The Black Sand Snorkel sail was a blast. We really enjoyed the Sea Smoke and the awesome crew. Kane was very friendly and knowledgeable, and Captain Pat was great as well.
One of the main reasons I booked this particular snorkel sail was that it was close to our condo villiage in the Waikoloa Beach Resort. I think it may have been the only one available in that area since most of the others were out of the Kona area.
The only things I would not comment positively on were the fact that the breakfast offering was not good. All they served were some sliced oranges. Other sails I have been on ha
