Our guide, Shoutarou, was amazing!! At the summit, he took some fun photos with the sunset as a backdrop, and he had a wealth of knowledge about the starry sky, making the tour enjoyable without a dull moment. He also looked out for the guests to prevent altitude sickness (it seems that falling asleep during the journey can make you more susceptible to it), demonstrating great leadership as he guided us. Staying at an altitude of 4,200 meters is an activity you absolutely must experience when you come to the Big Island, something you can't do while in Japan!

We were blessed with great weather and were able to see a sunset like no other.

Just after the sun set, the weather seemed to turn bad, and it looked like we wouldn't be able to do any stargazing. However, thanks to the guides who didn't give up and persevered, we were able to see a beautiful starry sky! It definitely ranks among the top three starry skies I've seen in various places.

The guides were very kind, and luckily, one of them spoke Japanese, so they explained everything in both languages. I was very impressed by their hospitality.

If I have the opportunity again, I would definitely want to join this tour.

また星空については満月になって2日目という悪条件でしたが、満天の星に天の川・流れ星もみることができて大満足です。天体望遠鏡で土星をみせてくださったりレーザーをあてて星のレクチャーもしてくださいました。なんといっても天の川と一緒の写真は初体験で記念になる1枚となりました。そんな至れり尽くせりのガイドさんは日本語が上手で気さくなショウタロウさん。日本人ではないのですが参加者の半数が日本人だったこともあり、車の中でも着いてからもすへて英語と日本語で説明してくださいました。本当にラッキー！言葉がわかったので体験に深みがでたと思います。

Our guide was from Hawaii, born on Maui, and has been living on the Big Island for two years. He was handsome, had a great voice, and was genuinely kind. The weather wasn’t ideal — it was cloudy, though we did see the sea of clouds and a bit of sunlight breaking through. It still felt magical watching the sunset above the clouds, even without a clear sky. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see any stars that night, probably due to the season (I went in late October). But the next day, on another tour, I did see a sky full of stars — so it’s still possible! Be prepared for altitude sickness; I felt lightheaded at the summit and was glad we descended soon after sunset. Overall, it was a good experience despite the bumpy mountain road — and it felt great to have “checked off” the highest mountain in the world (from base to peak).

It was the best experience!! On the way to the summit, the scenery made me feel like I was on Mars, with the sun sinking into a sea of clouds. The dynamic presence of nature was truly amazing.

And under the starry sky, being able to see Saturn's rings through a telescope was an extraordinary experience. As more stars appeared, I was able to take photos with the starry sky as a backdrop. The cocoa they provided when I was feeling cold warmed both my body and heart. Our guide, James, explained everything clearly, and I’m really glad I asked for his help. I would love to rely on them again next time.
