We climbed the mountain in a full car under a cloudy sky with some fog. I was half giving up, thinking that we wouldn't be able to see the sunset or the starry sky. We were lent warm clothes, had lunch, and took some time to acclimatize before heading to the summit. At first, we couldn't see anything due to the fog, but around sunset, the fog cleared up nicely, and we were able to see the sunset, which was breathtaking. If you're going to the Big Island, I highly recommend it! You can see the best sunset and, surprisingly, a lot of stars. The explanations about the mountains and constellations along the way were very easy to understand, and the attention to guests was excellent! While the weather can be a factor, I hope you get to experience the view from above the clouds.

I rated this tour one star, but there were no issues with the content of the tour or the guide's response. However, it seems we fell into the 10% of the 90% clear skies on our observation day, as we could only see a faint sunset and just three stars in the night sky (three stars...). Therefore, my satisfaction level for the sunset and stargazing tour was zero. There's nothing we can do about the weather. Since we participated on the fourth day after the hurricane passed, the road from the Onizuka Visitor Center to the summit was reportedly closed due to landslides. The guide kindly explained this at pickup, and at that point, we could cancel for a full refund. We decided to participate, and by the time we arrived at the Onizuka Visitor Center, the road to the summit had reopened. However, it seems some people canceled on the day. Our guide, Matsuzaki, did his best to keep the spirits up despite only seeing a little bit of the sun at the summit, and he took many photos for us. During the stargazing, he diligently searched for a spot without clouds and explained the stars to the participants, who were feeling quite down since we couldn't see any stars at all (laughs). In the car on the way back, everyone had a somber atmosphere, and I think the guide felt quite uncomfortable. However, I believe the content was wonderful. If I ever come back to the Big Island, I would like to participate with this company again.

This time, during our two-week stay, the only tour was this stargazing! I was really looking forward to it, but unfortunately, the sky was cloudy and the moon was out. We could see the large moon, but the stars we were hoping to see were much better viewed back in Japan. It was disappointing.

If you have flexibility in your schedule, it's better to consider the moon phase and the time the moon rises when making a reservation. We didn't think about it at all.

This August, I participated in the Mauna Kea Summit Sunset & Stargazing Tour. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the stars from the summit due to the weather, but we did catch glimpses of the sunset peeking through the clouds, which was quite dramatic! Also, our guide, J IN, really wanted to show us the stars and took us to various spots to try and catch a view! The stories during our travels were enjoyable, and I had a great time! I definitely want to participate again!

I'm sorry for the late review. My child wanted to see the stars on the Big Island, so we booked this tour. Since I had previously climbed Haleakalā on Maui, I didn't worry too much about altitude sickness. The guide took photos for us and shared fun stories during the drive, making the time fly by. The moonlight made it a bit difficult to see the stars (though it was still much better than back home), so next time we visit, I'll check the lunar calendar and will definitely book this tour again.

Tyra, the navigator from Masashi Nature School, was amazing and made it a wonderful birthday. Tyra was born in Okinawa and lived in Kanagawa until the second year of high school, so her Japanese is perfect. She made our conversations enjoyable with jokes and shared a wealth of interesting facts, which was very educational. We participated as a family of five. Our youngest was just two months shy of turning 10, but the VELTRA staff quickly coordinated with the local team, allowing all of us to join without any issues. (It seems age and height are important.)

They also provide thorough preparation and practice before the tour, so I think families with children need not worry. (My middle and high school kids pick things up faster than I do!)

This was my fifth time on the Big Island, but the explanation of Kona's history, which I found lacking in travel guides, really left a strong impression on me.

The passionate guidance from the president and the kind support from our guide, Masako, were outstanding! I will participate in the 120-minute tour next time.

I chose this tour because it focuses on stargazing and photography at a relatively high altitude (I actually had discount coupons for other tours and was quite torn about my choice). In the end, it was extremely good! My family participated, and we were able to capture my son's best shots as well as some great photos of the volcano, which left us all thrilled.

While the weather is a matter of luck, I could feel the professionalism and teamwork of the company. Next time, I would like to use this service for a sunrise tour. Thank you very much!

After departing from the port, we spent quite a while on the boat. It was a long ride, and the sea wasn't particularly rough, but including the kids, our family was hit hard by seasickness. So, we couldn't enjoy breakfast...

However, once we arrived at the snorkeling spot and got into the water, the seasickness improved, and everyone was thrilled to be in the deep, clear sea.

On the way back, we encountered dolphins, which was super exciting. But then, shortly after that, I felt nauseous again and ended up resting while returning.

The captain was cheerful and lively, making it a lot of fun. I think the hamburgers for lunch would have been really delicious if we hadn't been seasick!

You can choose the tour, but you can't choose the weather. It was a windy day, so the boat was really rocking. Some people were holding their heads and feeling sick (including my son).

According to reviews, it didn't seem like there would be many participants, but on the day we went, I think there were over 50 people on board. The second floor was almost full.

We saw dolphins right after we set off. There were several of them, which was a great start.

It takes about 40-50 minutes to reach the snorkeling point. Once we arrived, we received a safety briefing before heading out to snorkel. The water was clear, and we could see fish and sea urchins. My 4-year-old daughter also put on the fins and goggles we borrowed and swam. The waves were high, so just swimming was quite challenging.

After snorkeling, we enjoyed a waterslide from the boat. It was thrilling but fun.

We had breakfast and lunch on the boat, and the lunch burgers were delicious.

Seeing my son suffering from seasickness and a headache, an American lady said, "Drinking ginger ale will help." However, I'm not sure if that's true.

Anyway, it was tough with the high waves, but it was a very good experience!

シュノーケルのあとは、ボートからのウォータースライダー。スリリングだけど、楽しかったです。

朝食もランチもボートで食べましたが、ランチのバーガーは美味しかったです。

船酔いで頭が痛くて仕方なかった息子を見かねて、アメリカンのオバチャマが、"ジンジャエールを飲むと、マシになるよ。"と言っていたものの、定かではありません。

Since it was my first time on the Big Island, my husband and I decided to participate in the Mauna Kea sunset and stargazing tour! I was worried about altitude sickness since I had never climbed a high mountain before, but it was not a problem at all. The weather was fantastic that day, and both the sunset and stargazing from near the observatory were truly amazing, creating memories for a lifetime. If you're going to the Big Island, I highly recommend this tour.

When I asked about the rain policy, they said that if it rains heavily, we would go under the roof. In the case of a storm, they would decide around 5 PM whether to cancel or not.

Registration started at 5:30 PM, and we got to wear shell leis for photos. You can upgrade to flower or nut leis for an additional fee. You can refuse the photo session.

The host talks a lot and sings as well. The English isn't too difficult, and you can still enjoy it even if you don't understand everything. 色々と楽しませようとしてくださっているのは伝わるのですが、とても長いので、一部寝てしまいました。

最後はダンサーの方と手持ちの携帯などで写真を撮れます。特にチップを払っている人はいませんでした。ショーのお値段はワイキキよりずっと安いですが、ワイキキでは見ていないので、コスパ比較はできません。
