The sunset and starry sky viewed from Mauna Kea were amazing!
It was below freezing near the summit, but this tour provided not only down jackets but also pants, so I didn't feel as cold as I expected. This was different from other tours, and I really appreciated it.
Additionally, since I was dressed warmly, being able to do stargazing at a higher elevation was a great attraction.
If I had a suggestion, during the journey, there was an explanation about the Big Island, but I think it would have been even better to hear more in-depth stories about the history of the Big Island and the area.

You can ride for a very long time. Everyone's butt hurt after 2 or 3 days. Unlike horses that know the way and proceed in order, they tend to go wherever they want, trying to eat leaves and fruits. It was quite challenging, but I'm glad I had the experience of handling the horse. You really need to listen carefully to the instructions given at the beginning.

I thought this course would be perfect for us who love trekking, so I made a reservation. I was also attracted by the organizer's name, Hawaii Forest & Trail.

While I considered that since we had a rental car for waterfall trekking, we might not need a tour, I ultimately decided to leave it to the professionals.

At the time of booking, it was stated that there would be no pick-up service, but when I called to confirm on-site, I was pleasantly surprised to find out they would pick us up at our hotel. Additionally, they took our requests for the sandwich fillings for lunch. This really motivated us.

On the day of the tour, since it was an English-guided tour (with Mike as our guide), we had a diverse group including four families from Michigan, a Chinese American couple, a Japanese couple, and a Russian woman living in the U.S., along with us (with our 7-year-old child). It truly lived up to its name as a tour that everyone could enjoy.

With this group, we switched to an old military 6WD vehicle for an off-road experience. We bumped over private ranches and fields, and everyone was thrilled by the incredible vibrations and wind! It was quite cold. After that, we trekked through taro fields and across a suspension bridge, learning about ancient Hawaiian divination methods and plant names while visiting small waterfalls. Although we didn't swim due to the high water levels, I thought it would be a perfect spot in the summer.

The trekking was light enough that even our 7-year-old had no trouble, and we enjoyed a wrap sandwich filled with plenty of alfalfa, cheese, and turkey, along with guava juice and cookies at a ranch overlooking the stunning views of Pololu Valley. This wrap sandwich was among the top meals I had on the Big Island due to its location!

On the way back, we were jostled in the 6WD while exploring the town of Hawi. This town seems nostalgic to Westerners, and I heard from several people that it’s a nice place, although it’s not mentioned much in Japanese guidebooks.

The tour was different from those aimed at Japanese tourists, and I had a lot of fun. I got to know the other members well and exchanged various information, and Mike's warm hospitality along with the breathtaking photos of Pololu Valley left us with wonderful memories.

トレッキングが好きな私達にぴったりのコースだと思い予約しました。主催者の名前もHawaii Forrest & Trailで魅かれました。

滝トレッキングなら、レンタカーもしたしわざわざツアーでなくても良いかなとも思ったのですが、やはりそこはプロに任せることに。

当日は、英語のガイドツアー（マイクさん）ということもあって、ミシガンからの4家族、チャイニーズアメリカンと日本人のカップル、在米ロシア人の女性一人参加、と私達（子供7歳）とまさにすべての人が楽しめるツアーと名をうっているだけのことはあるという、バリエーション豊かな面子でした。

このグループで、オーストリアの昔の軍用車６WDに乗り換えてのオフロード体験。私有地の牧場や、畑をがたがた超えてすごい振動と風にみんな大興奮！！かなり寒かったです。その後、タロ畑、つり橋をトレッキングし、ハワイ人古来の占い方法や植物の名前などを教わりながら小さな滝をめぐりました。増水していたので泳ぎはしませんでしたが、夏場だったら絶好の場所だと思いました。

7歳の子供でも全く足でまどいになることがない軽い感じのトレッキングで、ポロル渓谷の絶景を臨む牧場でたっぷりのアルファルファとチーズとターキーのラップサンドと、グアバジュース、クッキーを頂きました。このラップサンド、場所が場所だけに、ハワイ島で味わった食事１，２を争う美味しさでした！　

帰りは６WDに揺られて、HAWIの町を散策。この町は欧米人にはノスタルジックらしく、いい場所だと何人からもきいていましたが日本人のガイドブックにはあまり述べられていない場所です。

日本人向けのツアーと、またおもむきやメンバーが違って非常に楽しめました。他のメンバーとも仲良くなって色々情報交換もでき、マイクさんの暖かいホスピタリティーとポロル渓谷の絶景写真と非常によい思い出が残りました。

We participated as a pair in June. Last time it was Mr. Taikobou, so this time we tried Mr. Masashi. Both have their own unique characteristics and are interesting. Both were kind and fun staff members. I think the experience is influenced by weather conditions. We decided on the schedule while looking at the travel itinerary and the moon phase, but the moon was a bit bright, and I felt that the number of visible stars was different compared to last time. I recommend being mindful of the moon phase when making your reservation.

前回は太公望さんだったので、今回はマサシさんにしてみました。
どちらもそれぞれ特徴があって面白いです。

Loved the tour. The clouds dissipated in time for sunset and we had perfect timing for stargazing - got to actually see the Great Red Spot on Jupiter. The tour guide was knowledgeable and very personable. If I was going back to Hawaii, I would do this all over again. Highly recommended, as it is a once in a life time opportunity.

The day I participated, the moon was bright due to the approaching full moon, making conditions not ideal for stargazing, and the thick clouds meant that the expected starry sky near the summit was not visible.

Even though the stars were not visible, the sunset sinking into the clouds was very beautiful, and it made me feel like I was above the clouds, which I think is one of the joys of the experience.

I also want to thank the staff who helped me find points where I could see the stars as I gradually descended by car, even though I couldn't see them near the summit!

Since the moon was bright due to the approaching full moon, I had them take a photo of the moon through the telescope, and I’m bragging to my friends about how clearly the craters are visible.

Thanks to the guidance on when to drink water in the car, I had no issues with altitude sickness, which I had been worried about. Next time, I would like to participate when the full moon is not approaching.

心配していた高山病も、車中でお水を飲むタイミングを指示してくれたりしたおかげで全く問題ありませんでした。
次回は満月近くを外して参加したいと思います。

I booked a half-day tour with Na'alapa Stables.

I had some anxiety since I had no experience with horseback riding, but I was able to ride without any problems.

The guide gave instructions in English, but they taught us horseback riding using simple words and gestures, so even beginners quickly got used to it.

Along the way, we enjoyed the breathtaking views of Waipi'o Valley, and the course was varied, including riding through the river.

Waipi'o Valley is worth seeing just for the views, but I highly recommend the horseback riding tour.

If there's one downside, it was that the meeting point was hard to find. We happened to stumble upon it. It would be better if it were easier to locate.

ナアラパ・ステープルズの半日ツアーを申し込みました。

I went to see the sunset, and it was incredibly beautiful! The sunset was great, but unfortunately, there were clouds in the sky, so I couldn't see the stars. However, the guides were very engaging and tried their best until the very end... their service was excellent.

When we had our lunch just before reaching the summit, we enjoyed warm miso soup, tea, and cocoa, which really helped warm us up.

Additionally, they lent us ski wear-like outerwear, which was great! Other tour participants only had outerwear for the upper body, so they looked very cold.

The summit is quite chilly. The restroom is also quite scary—it's very dark.

But the beauty of the sunset made me forget the cold.

Also, the guides actively took photos for us, and even though we didn't have many pictures of the two of us, they captured some wonderful commemorative photos.

I'm sure I would have been even more moved if I could have seen the stars, but it's nature, so there's nothing we can do about it. The people who participated in the tour with us said, "This means we have to come back again!"

That's true. I definitely want to try again.

他のツアーの人は上だけの防寒具だったりしてたので、とても寒そうに見えました。

山頂はかなり寒いです。
トイレもかなり怖いです。真っ暗で。

ケド、寒さを忘れるくらい、サンセットはキレイでした。

また、ガイドさんが積極的に写真を撮って下さり、2人の写真があまりなかったなか、記念のステキな写真を撮っていただけました。

きっと星空が見えたらもっと感動してたと思いますが、自然の事ですから、仕方がないですよね。
ツアーに一緒に参加してた人たちは『これは、もう一回来いって事よね！』って言ってました。

その通りですね。
是非、再チャレンジしてみたいと思います。

My husband and I loved this zipline adventure. We loved Hawaii but this just made the trip perfect. I had never done it before (my husband had) and to be honest I will a little bit scared but as soon as we started I had so much fun. Our guides were amazing. So fun, friendly and careful. We participated along with a family of 5 (3 children and their parents). They had so much fun too! I HIGHLY recommend everyone try this. The lines are safe, the views are spectacular and it will really make your vacation special!

I participated in the Mauna Kea summit tour with Masashi Nature. We were able to drive to the summit in a short time that made the height of Mauna Kea feel insignificant, and at the top, we witnessed a wonderful sunset. I could truly feel the height and grandeur of the mountain.

The starry sky was filled with so many stars that I was left in awe, spending time just taking it all in. They took many photos, and when I checked their website, I saw the pictures from that time uploaded.

The warm miso soup we had for dinner was delicious. Masashi Nature always provides a wonderful tour of the Big Island of Hawaii. I will definitely use their services again.

This trip was worth every penny and more. The guide, Garry, was knowledgeable and went beyond to find all the birds on our list and spent extra time helping all see them. Guide, John, knew every native plant I asked about growing among the beautiful lava path. The tour was like being part of a scene from an Indiana Jones movie. Will be back to do the other NWR ecotour since I loved it so much.

Overall, this was fun.The main guide was knowledgeable and really knew his constellations. One negative was they should have had the single guy sit by the guide and let my husband & I sit together.They both ended up yelling to each other across the aisle over me on the drive back.

I participated to go see the starry sky.

One thing that is good to prepare is the iTunes app "Star Walk." I realized that the satellite moving around was the Hubble. Thanks to my cold weather preparations, it wasn't too cold. The lower area was clear, but if it were raining, the experience might be different.

There are several opportunities to take group photos. This is a matter of preference, but group photos can feel a bit lacking in spirit. If I participate next time, I might skip the group photos.

For those who want to take their time photographing the starry sky, there is a way to get to Onizuka on your own. Since there can be fog in the lower area and winding roads, I think it would be good to participate in a tour like this once for some preparation.

一度このようなツアーに参加して予習すると良いと思います。

The sunset at Mauna Kea, which is higher than Mount Fuji, was wonderful. On the opposite side of the setting sun, there was a full moon, creating a magical atmosphere. Thanks to the full moon, stargazing was a bit challenging, though. The oxygen is indeed thin, but taking regular breaks to acclimate helped, so it wasn't a problem. However, it is really cold, so warm clothing is essential. At Masashi's Nature, they provided warm outerwear, but it seems that other companies only offer a poor-quality jacket, so I think it's worth considering that aspect as well.

富士山よりも高いマウナケアでのサンセット素晴らしいものでした。その、沈む太陽の反対側には満月があり幻想的でした。満月のおかげで星空観測は微妙でしたが・・。酸素は確かに薄いけどマメに体を慣らす休憩をとって下さったので問題ありません。ただ、本当に寒いので必須防寒。マサシ−ズ　ネイチャ-では上下の温かい防寒を貸してもらえましたが他社では気の毒な程度の上着しか与えられてないみたいなので、そのあたりもポイントにすると良いと思います。

My husband and I spent a lot of money on activities to do while we were on the Big Island, and the zipline was worth every single penny!!!!! Our guides were nothing short of amazing! They knew so much about the history and it was amazing how much they did know and pointed things out to us! We had the best experience and I would highly recommend ziplining and using Kohala zipline Canopy Adventure! Our instructors, Matt and Ashley, let us have fun and also taught us to be safe. I can not say this enough.....best time of my life!

Jon, our guide and driver, was very pleasant. Although the Fairmont Hotel was not on the list for drop-offs, he took us there. I was worried about transportation to the hotel late at night, but this unexpected service was a great help.

Additionally, for stargazing, even after the other group of Japanese participants finished early, he said that Jupiter would soon be rising and showed us Jupiter. Since only the English tour was available, it was a reluctant choice, but I was fortunate to have booked this one.

It was also cheaper than the tours aimed at Japanese participants, so I recommend this option for those who are considering it.

We went to the Big Island of Hawaii for the first time as a family. Driving around in a rental car was amazing. I had always wanted to climb Mauna Kea, but I was worried about tire punctures and car troubles due to the pressure changes with a regular vehicle, so we requested a guide. We participated as a couple on September 24, 2011. Since other Japanese tours were fully booked, we opted for this English-guided tour, and it turned out to be more enjoyable for my husband, who grew up in an English-speaking environment.

The sunset viewed from the summit of Mauna Kea was incredibly beautiful and elegant, almost otherworldly. The sea of clouds spread out below us, and the pink-hued scenery was a special sight that is hard to find in Japan. The summit is indeed at an altitude of 4,000 meters, so it felt a bit suffocating, but I didn't experience altitude sickness.

After the sunset, we descended to the visitor center for stargazing, where we saw an astonishing number of stars. We were overwhelmed by the sheer number of stars. It was truly moving, and we were also fortunate to see the Milky Way due to the season.

Although it's not a cheap tour, I believe that if it's your first trip to the Big Island, you should definitely go on this Mauna Kea summit and stargazing tour.

As for the English guide, he explained everything very well and showed us various stars through a telescope. We had a longer stargazing session compared to other Japanese guided tours, and ultimately, our tour was the last to stay at the visitor center.

If you decide to join this English tour, it might be less enjoyable if you don't speak any English at all. I understood about 60-70% of it, but since it was aimed at foreigners, there were some specialized terms that I didn't understand (laughs). My husband helped translate, which was a relief.

The guide, Joe, was considerate and reached out to the Japanese participants, so I think it would be worth trying for those who have some familiarity with English.

Make sure to prepare for the cold. We brought down jackets and hiking pants from Japan, and additionally, we had snowboard layer pants to wear underneath. Even so, I ended up layering with a jacket borrowed from the tour company (it was quite cold during the stargazing part as the sun set and it got chilly).

This tour did not include hotel pickup, so it was a bit of a hassle to gather at the tour company.

Overall, I think we participated in a very good tour. I would love to go again.

2011年9月24日に夫婦2人で参加しました。他の日本語ツアーが満席だったのでこの英語ガイドツアーにしましたが、小さい頃から英語圏で育った主人には、逆にこちらの外人向けツアーの方が自由がきいて楽しかったようです。

マウナケア山頂から眺める夕日は、この世のものとは思えないほど綺麗で優雅でした。雲海が眼下に広がり、桃色にそまる光景は、なかなか日本では見れない特別な景色でした。山頂はやはり4000ｍ級の山なので、息苦しい感じがしましたが、高山病にはなりませんでした。
夕日のあと、visitor centerまで降りて、星空観察しましたが、とてつもないほどの星の数が見れました。あまりの星数に、夫婦で圧倒されてしまいました。本当に感動的でしたし、季節的にも天の川も見れて良かったです。

安くはないツアーですが、初めてのハワイ島旅行なら、このマウナケア山頂＆星空観察ツアーだけは行ったほうが良いと思います。

肝心の英語ガイドですが、とてもよく説明してくれましたし、望遠鏡でさまざまな星を見せてくれました。他の日本語ガイドツアーより長く星空観察してくれて、結局私達のツアーが最後までvisitor centerに居ました。

この英語ツアーに参加する場合は、やはり英語がまったくできないと楽しさも半減してしまうかも知れません。私も６~７割くらい理解できましたが、やはり外人向けなので、星の詳しい内容など分からない専門用語もチラホラ（苦笑）主人が通訳してくれたので助かりましたが。
ガイドのJoeさんは、日本人にも心配りで声を掛けてくれてましたし、英語に多少なじみのある方ならトライしてみても良いかと思います。

防寒対策はしっかりした方がいいです。私達は日本からダウンジャケットや登山用ズボンを持っていき、さらにズボンの下に履くスノーボード用のレイヤーパンツを持っていきました。それでも、私は、ツアー会社から借りたジャケットを重ね着したくらいです。（星空ツアーの時が、日が沈み底冷えするので寒かったです）

このツアーはホテルピックアップ付きではなかったので、集合はツアー会社まで行くのが少々面倒でした。

総合的にみて、とても良いツアーに参加できたと思います。
また行ってみたいです。

I was attracted to the course that crosses the river in the canyon and decided to participate. In the same group, there were American, Indian, Chinese, and two Japanese couples, all in their 20s to 30s.

From the meeting point, we took a car down a steep mountain road while overlooking the canyon, which was thrilling due to the narrowness of the road.

After signing the waiver at the horse area, we chose helmets (none of which were very clean, so it was better to choose quickly), and there was a 5 to 10-minute explanation about horseback riding. (Since my English skills are limited, I desperately gathered information from my husband. I was a bit worried if I couldn't get someone to interpret for me.)

We put the water we brought (which must be purchased at the meeting point as it is not sold at the stable) into a bag they provided (a pocket-like thing to hang on the horse's shoulder). Once you get on the horse, beginners won't have much leeway, so if you want to use a camera, it's recommended to hang it around your neck. By the way, make sure to use the restroom at the meeting point, as there won't be another opportunity until we return.

The horse I rode was a model student and always stayed close to the guide, so I could hear the guide's instructions. (However, it was very tough for me not to be able to respond to the guide due to my lack of English skills, haha.) 馬のいる場所まで降りて誓約書にサインした後、ヘルメットを選び（どれもあまりキレイではなく出遅れずに早く選んだ方がいい感じ）、乗馬についての説明が5分~10分くらい。（私は英語力に乏しい為、必死で夫から情報収集。誰かに通訳してもらえない場合はちょっと心配。）

各自持参した水（集合場所では購入しておかなければ、馬小屋では売ってない）を、貸してくれる袋（馬の肩にかけるポケットのようなもの）に入れる。
また一度馬に乗ってしまうと初心者ではあまり余裕が無い為、もしカメラを使いたいなら首から下げておくのがおススメ。
ちなみにトイレも集合場所で済ませておきましょう。出発以降は戻ってくるまでないので。

私の乗った馬は優等生で、常にガイドの近くのポジションを取ってくれたため、ガイドの話が常に聞けた。（が、英語力がない為、ガイドに対して返答できないことが非常につらかった（笑）。）
他の馬たちも基本的にはよく訓練されていておとなしいので、乗馬に慣れていない人でも問題はないが、やはりそれぞれ個性があって、すぐに道草を食う馬、前に前に行く馬、違うルートに行こうとする馬などなど、どの馬に当たるかもこのツアーの楽しみか。

山の小道をゆっくり歩き、植物や景色を堪能しながら約2時間の行程。吹き抜ける風は気持ちよく爽やかさを感じられるツアーだった。

I applied for this tour because other companies' Japanese guided tours were already fully booked on the desired date. There was no pickup from our hotel, so we had to make our way to the nearest pickup point, Waikoloa Village (which is not a problem if you have a rental car). When we arrived, there were several Japanese participants as well.

Along the way, we had a light meal in a tent at a former ranch site. The beef soup was delicious. After that, we took another restroom break at the visitor center. We made several stops for photo opportunities as we headed to the summit. They lend you proper warm clothing, but it was still quite cold. However, the sight of the sunset beyond the sea of clouds was majestic.

After sunset, we descended to the area near the visitor center to observe the starry sky. The guide provided various explanations, but it can be quite challenging to understand without a certain level of English proficiency. Nevertheless, the overwhelming beauty of the starry sky remains unchanged, so it's not a major issue. Overall, I think it was a great tour that offered an experience I wouldn't normally have.

日没後ビジターセンター付近まで降りて満点の星空を観測。
ガイドさんが色々と解説してくれるのだが、ある程度英語力がないと理解するのはなかなかしんどい。でも圧倒的な星空の素晴らしさはなんら変わらないので大きな問題ではない。
全体的には普段できない経験ができて良いツアーだったと思う。

This was our second time participating, along with my aunt and uncle who joined for the first time. I was a bit anxious about the English tour, but the guide was kind, and it seemed that we were able to bond with the other two Japanese couples participating, as we cooperated with each other during the English tour.

Unfortunately, due to bad weather, we couldn't observe the stars, but later, through Alan1.net, we received a message from the tour company stating that they would refund half of the tour fee because we couldn't observe the stars due to the weather. About ten days before my trip, I made several inquiries to book a tour, but since all the Japanese tours were fully booked, I decided to join this one.

I can't really recommend it for those who don't understand English at all, but if you're okay with explanations in English, I definitely encourage you to participate.

We met at the designated spot around 2 PM and traveled by car with the guide. There were about ten people in our group. We drove along Saddle Road for about two hours and took a break at the foot of Mauna Kea to prevent altitude sickness while having dinner. I heard that the Japanese tour provides bento boxes, but this tour offered corn bread and either beef or vegetable soup (a bit light, but tasty). After about an hour's break, we continued driving up.

We arrived at the summit just before sunset and had about 30 minutes to enjoy the view. The temperature felt below zero... it was quite cold, but they provided winter jackets and gloves, so it was manageable.

After the sunset, we descended a bit to stargaze. The stars are quite beautiful even with the naked eye, and the guide provided detailed explanations of the constellations using a telescope. We stood outside for nearly an hour and a half, so it was very cold. They also served hot cocoa and cookies, but I recommend bringing a hat and hand warmers if you're sensitive to the cold.

This tour, with its fiery sunset and countless stars, including many shooting stars, is something you can never experience in Japan, so I absolutely recommend it! If you're prone to altitude sickness or get motion sickness, please take medication beforehand.

旅行の10日ほど前に予約をしようといくつか問い合わせをしましたが、日本語のツアーが全ていっぱいだったためこちらに参加しました。

2時ごろ集合場所に車で行き、そこからガイドさんの車で移動。参加人数は１グループにつき10人ほど。
2時間ほどサドル・ロードをひたすら走り、マウナ・ケアの麓で夕食がてら高山病予防のため休憩。日本語のツアーはお弁当が出るそうですが、このツアーはコーン・ブレッドとビーフか野菜のスープ（少し物足りないですが美味しいです）。1時間ほど休憩して、また一気に車であがります。
頂上には太陽が沈む直前につき、30分くらい景色を眺める時間があります。体感温度は0度以下です・・・かなり寒いですが、ちゃんと冬用のジャケットと手袋を貸してくれるので大丈夫です。
夕日のあとは少し山を下って星を見ます。裸眼でもかなりキレイに見えますが、望遠鏡も使いながら星座の説明を詳しくしてくれます。1時間半近く外で立っているのでかなり寒いです。ホットココアとクッキーも出ますが、寒さに弱い人は帽子とホッカイロを持参することをオススメします。

燃えるような夕日と無数の星、流れ星もたくさん見えるこのツアーは日本では決して体験できないので絶対オススメです！高山病になりやすい方や乗り物酔いをする方は予め薬を飲んでから参加してください。

As everyone mentioned, it was a wonderful sunset, just as the rumors said. It was my first time seeing so many stars, and I was truly moved. The Milky Way and shooting stars were beautifully visible.

I thought the 1:30 PM meeting time was early, but considering everyone's health, I understood the schedule after it was over. The beef stew for dinner was delicious, and it had an outdoor vibe, but it might be a bit tough for those who aren't fond of the outdoors.

We had dinner at 5 PM, and we returned after 11 PM, so it might be a good idea to bring some snacks for the night.

Also, it is really cold. Personally, I felt it was colder than winter in Japan, so please make sure to dress warmly.

あんな沢山の星を見たのも初めてですし、感動しっぱなしでした。

１３：３０の集合は早いのでは？と思ったのですが、体調の事を考えてのスケジュールだったので、終わってみてから納得しました。
夕ご飯のビーフシチューも美味しくて、アウトドアな感じで頂くのですが、アウトドアが苦手な方ならちょっと辛いかもしれません。。

１７時にご飯を食べて、戻ってくるのが２３時過ぎなので、何か夜食を用意して行かれた方が良いかもしれません。

あと、本当に寒いです。
個人的に日本の冬よりも寒い気がしましたので、本気で防寒して下さいね。
